DWF 31/03/08 - no, seriously.

91Posted on 04/26/08 at 22:05:46

Yeah, I've actually done some stuff lately and ran card and whatnot... crap, has it really been over a year and a half since I posted anything? God, I'm lazy. To recap where I left off, this was the Monday night show the week before this one...

http://www.tnm7.de/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.cgi?board=tnmcircs;action=display;num=1156361991

And then the pay-per-view event that followed...

http://www.tnm7.de/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.cgi?board=tnmcircs;action=display;num=1156780373

So, the longest running (if you count it as "running") circuit on the TNM boards continues. Where was I?

Jerry Lynn and Raven open up proceedings

Last nights pay-per-view spectacular has brought about a very intriguing match
as the way things stand, the main event for Wrestlefest is scheduled to be a
first time EVER meeting between brand new world heavyweight champion Jerry Lynn
and the one man he trusts over all others to watch his back, the former
champion Raven. To call them friends wouldn't be the right word with the frame
of mind these two have but for the last couple of years, they've constantly
fought side by side against whatever forces have been coming at them, be it
Kidman & Corino or Don Muraco or whomever. To open off the show, the two of
them both came out and Lynn right away made reference to this 'being it' as
they stand destined to face one another for the first time. Lynn mentioned that
he has finally bought the DWF to its zenith with the biggest match in its
history destined for Wrestlefest. Raven meanwhile stated that though losing the
title to Kidman a year ago has eaten away at him, the fact the two of them are
finally solely in control of the DWF is proof that the greater good has
prevailed. Neither man however made too much reference as to what might actually
happen at Wrestlefest.

One man who seemed very unimpressed made his entrance at this point, that being
Kurt Angle. Angle was furious at the very un-patriotic ruling that had been
made, denying him a place in the Royal Rumble but by defeating Rhyno, he felt
he had proven that he is the most deserving of a title shot next. Raven
brushed him off, claiming they had no interest in giving a guy like Angle a
chance at destroying what they had created, to which Angle responded by saying
Raven wouldn't have even won if he had been in the Rumble, citing his winning
the Rumble two years ago. Lynn and Raven seemed almost amused at his
impudence and after a quick discussion agreed that if Kurt Angle could indeed
prove himself over Raven like he hadn't had the chance to last night, Lynn
would grant him a title shot at Ground Zero. Angle hungrily accepted and after
failing to get a "USA" chant started, the match was on.

Jeff Hardy (c) vs Tajiri (cruiserweight title) & Don Muraco responds to the events of last night

The nights opening clash saw Jeff Hardy defend the cruiserweight title against
a former champion, Tajiri. Flanking Hardy was a very very very angry looking
Don Muraco - more on that in a second. Tajiri looked a little intimidated by
Muracos presence but still started stronger, unleashing his brand of stiff
kicks that left Hardy looking a little worse for the wear. Hardys moments of
impact were brief and the champ was literally on the ropes until he pulled
them down when Tajiri charged, sending the challenger out. Hardy then presented
the ref with a special haiku poem explaining why the ref should pay attention
to what he was doing. The poem was so bad that the ref was mesmorised (that
seems to be the only explanation) allowing Muraco to pick Tajiri up and throw
him at the ring post. Ouch. Muraco threw Tajiri back in, and Hardy finished
with the Haiku Bomb. And wasting no time in throwing Tajiri out again, Muraco
had a mic.

After having perhaps the worst day of his professional career, Don Muraco
wanted answers. After the events of the Royal Rumble match, it was no longer
Jerry Lynn he wanted to get at, it was Ulf Herman. Muraco was now in the ring
and he demanded answers. Alex Wright was more than happy to oblige and brought
out his bodyguard. Muraco demanded answers and Wright made a very pleading
apology with Muraco, begging forgiveness for Hermans actions before promising
Muraco a large sum of money to make up for what happened.

Muraco seemed happy with this arrangement, while Wright turned around and in
somewhat of a hissing voice, absolutely tore into Herman, lambasting him in
front of everyone and tapping Ulfs chest with the riding crop a little harder
than he should have been. Wright stated that the money given to Muraco would
come out of Hermans wages and demanded Herman apologise. Ulf tightened his lips
before making the apology. Wright wrapped things up by promising Muraco he'd
help him get his title back before Muraco told Herman if he truly wanted his
apology accepting, he ought to make some sort of grand gesture to prove he
really meant it.

Jeff Hardy pinned Tajiri with the Haiku Bomb in 0:04:20.

Low Ki & Kid Kash vs The Miracle Violence Connection

In the first of three tag team matches tonight, the Miracle Violence Connection
took on the duo of Low Ki and Kid Kash who have made quite a formidable
pairing whenever they've gotten together. The size advantage went to the MVC
who easily overpowered Low Ki in the early stages. Low Ki didn't hold back
however, nailing Gordy with some shots that echoed through the arena. Gordy
was flinching a lot after that and Kid Kash came in to take over. Steve
Williams came in too and Kash began to be double teamed and they set him up
for a double clothesline only for Low Ki to come back and take out Gordy with
a roundhouse kick to the head. With the odds halved, Kash was able to hit the
Money Maker on Williams to score a huge victory that may be seen by some as an
upset. Whilst both Low Ki and Kash always have one eye each on going after the
cruiserweight title, this win may yet push them towards looking for tag team
gold of sorts.

Low Ki & Kid Kash (Low Ki and Kid Kash) defeated
The Miracle Violence Connection (Steve Williams and Terry Gordy) when Kid Kash
pinned S. Williams with the Money Maker in 0:06:05.

Chavo Guerrero Jr. vs Eddie Guerrero

In a big rematch from last years Wrestlefest, Eddie Guerrero met his nephew
Chavo for the first time since that big event. Chavo won on that night so there
was the extra motivation for Eddie to get the job done here. Eddie had a few
thoughts on his mind before we started though, and wasn't afraid to share them,
naturally. He thought his elimination from the Rumble was a disgrace as the
man who put him out, Chris Jericho, shouldn't have been there. This no doubt
stemming from the fact that Eddie beat Jericho in a Royal Rumble qualifier but
still managed to get a second chance to qualify, took it, and got Eddie out.
Eddie said that at some point, he wanted Jericho to come take him on face to
face without being such a 'mamacita' for once in his life, but first was the
little matter of facing Chavo who made his entrance.

With the passion running high in both men, it was a more aggressive encounter
than we'd be used to from these two with less of the fast paced high flying
that we might expect and more of the particularly punishing aspects of mat
wrestling in between the straight punching. Neither man had the advantage by
and large until Chavo came on strong and went up top for the flying bodypress
that has won many a match. Eddie got out of the way and then grounded Chavo
with a stiff backbreaker before hitting a match winning Frog Splash for the
three count.

Eddie wasn't done though as he continued to put the boots to Chavo. Sick and
tired of this, Chris Jericho responded to the earlier challenge and made the
save but before he could even get many shots in on Eddie, the rest of the
Guerrero clan jumped him and a four man beatdown ensued - it had clearly been
a trap to get a little revenge on Jericho. Los Guerreros proceeded to beatdown
BOTH Jericho and Chavo Jr. before officials managed to usher them out, but
this disgusting assault showed that they clearly mean business on this one.

Eddie Guerrero pinned Chavo Guerrero Jr. with the Frog Splash in 0:10:07.

Pretty Perfect (c) vs Edge & Christian (world tag team titles)

Arguably the biggest match of the night was the big rematch between the current
tag team champions Pretty Perfect and the team they beat for the titles a little
over a month ago, Edge & Christian. The challengers dedicated the match to
their buddy Rob Van Dam, promising to smuggle him some more spliffs in the
hospital when they were doing before we got underway.

Van Dams retirement seemed to spur Edge and Christian on as they looked strong
early before Christian invariably got trapped in the wrong corner, a victim of
much double teaming. Christian still looks ragged after the beating he got from
Brian Pillman last week and the champions capitalised on this, but Christian
was never one for giving up quickly and when both Hennig and Hart charged in
with a clothesline, Christian was quick enough to slip out of the way, leaving
the champs to clothesline each other.

Christian dragged himself to the corner and made the tag and Edge was a house
on fire, taking both Hart and Hennig down with alternating right hands. The
numbers soon got overwhelming and Christian tried to do what he could to help
but so beaten down he was, Hennig easily tossed him aside. A little distracted
by what was happening to his brother, Edge was left prone for a spinning heel
kick from Owen that knocked him silly, and the Sharpshooter from Owen Hart was
too much for him to bear. A good win for the champions, but nothing to be
ashamed of for the challengers, it was simply a case of their chance coming at
the wrong time.

Pretty Perfect (Owen Hart and Curt Hennig) defeated
Edge & Christian (Edge and Christian) when O. Hart made Edge submit to the
Sharpshooter in 0:09:53.

Scott Putski vs Sylvain Grenier

Sylvain Grenier took on Scott Putski today with Rene Dupree in his corner.
Last nights Royal Rumble match wasn't a good one for La Resistance with Dupree
going out fairly quickly and Grenier being everyones whipping boy, seemingly,
while he was in there. But they didn't mind because they know American is the
land of opportunity and they'll have more chances in future. Of course, they
noted, every Western country offers the same amount of opportunity so America
calling itself as such is a bit of a waste really, before adding it's nice
that they're at least proud of such Western culture.

Since they'd lost the fans at this point (and attempts to win them back with
the French Tickler failed), the match got underway. Putski looked good in the
early stages but Grenier is no slouch, being a title holder, and quickly
finished things with the Coupe de Grace after blocking a backdrop with a
simple kick to the face. Now to see who will be next up to challenge them for
the Intercontinental tag team titles.

Sylvain Grenier pinned Scott Putski with the Coupe de Grace in 0:04:02.

The Kings Court: Rock'n'Roll Express

On the Kings Court this week were the Rock'n'Roll Express and after their
extraordinary bust up last week, King Kanyon wanted to make sense of it all.
It seems both men had their problems with how the team is run. Robert Gibson
was sick of Ricky being the one who got the majority of the credit ("it's
60-40 to you when they talk about us") to which Ricky responded that they could
swap roles and Robert could be the one who got his ass kicked the entire match
before making the tag and watching his partner get the pin every time. After
a little more bickering, and Kanyon offering nothing of usefulness, one of them
noted what a great team they've made over the years (god knows which one said
it, but someone did) and tempers simmered down a bit, before they set
themselves the goal of recapturing the tag team titles once again. Let's hope
they can remain on the same page long enough to do so this time.

Essa Rios & Masato Tanaka vs Billy Kidman & Steve Corino

Billy Kidman was once again down in the mouth concerning his recent form. Last
night he was hoping to win back to back Royal Rumbles before being ousted by
Muraco, something that there is no shame in. Kidman poured out his feeling of
woe to Corino who seemed more interested in polishing his TV title, but as it
happened, he had been listening. Corino said that last night had been a
disappointment for many people (Corino made the final four for a second year
running and just missed out again) but he had a great idea to boost Kidmans
stock again, saying all they had to do was win their match tonight.

After Corinos promises moments ago that victory would bring great success back
to Billy Kidman, the two were in the ring against Essa Rios and Masato Tanaka.
OK, Kidman and Corino were favourites but wisely they didn't discount their
skilled opponents, which was a good job as they both, particularly Tanaka, got
their blows in, with Tanaka hitting some stiff moves on Kidman, leaving him
yelping in pain. Kidman and Corino dominated however and after Corino ducked
a clothesline, he caught Tanaka with the Old School Expulsion in one quick
motion. Corino tagged in Kidman to apparently give him the final glory, and
Kidman wasted little time in obliging, hitting the Shooting Star Press to get
the three while Corino intercepted Rios. Kidman looked delighted at the win,
and Corino promised to reveal his surprise next week.

Billy Kidman & Steve Corino (Billy Kidman and Steve Corino) defeated
Essa Rios and Masato Tanaka when Kidman pinned M. Tanaka with the
Shooting Star Press in 0:08:28.

Paul Roma vents and apparently makes another "pussy challenge"

Paul Roma, unfortunately, was back out today, furious at being cast aside in
last nights Royal Rumble in favour of Coach. COACH! That's pretty much how Roma
phrased it and he was hopping mad. Actual hopping may have been involved. None
the less, he and the Mean Street Posse were so bitter, they weren't even
waiting, they were going to start lighting candelabras now as a sign of
gratitude towards their gods (or something equally stupid). Luckily Roma had
only bought some cheap five year old Bic lighters that morning and was
struggling to find one that worked. In the meantime, Jody Fleisch answered
the challenge (not that one was issued, but... oh well) and kicked over the
candelabras before easily working over all three men. Rodney and Gas, like
idiots, only managed to run into each other after they tripped over their black
robes before Fleisch had little trouble taking care of Roma. Out of nowhere,
Fleisch then hit an extraordinary looking tornado DDT in which he span round
some 720 degrees. Roma landed right on his head and Fleisch counted his own
three for the victory, a victory that will count because everyone hates Roma.

Fleisch wasn't done though. Grabbing a mic, he congratulated Matt Hardy on
single handidly trying to ruin last nights Royal Rumble for the fans, even
though it's the most anticipated match of the year. Still, Fleisch wasn't
bitter - if coming out and telling him he was eliminated is the only way our
'beloved' commissioner Hardy could keep Fleisch from winning, that was good
enough for Jody to accept. Fleisch then said this has gone on plenty and
challenged Matt Hardy to a match, not for the upcoming Ground Zero but for two
months time at Wrestlefest VIII. Fleisch of course won at the same event last
year but Hardy has a victory over him since. Question is, will Matt be up for
a third clash?

Jody Fleisch pinned Paul Roma with the 720 DDT in 0:03:43.

Raven vs Kurt Angle (Angle receives a title shot at Ground Zero if he wins)

Kurt Angles big chance came in the nights main event against Raven, and perhaps
the timing of this challenge to Angle could have been better, with Raven still
tired after going twenty five minutes in victory last night. That said, it was
Raven who started off the most aggressive, in much the same way as he did last
night upon entering the ring, as he ripped into Angle early, sending Angle
scurying to the outside to rethink his approach. With the match settling down,
it was Raven dominating the early stages until Angle used his superior mat
skills to gain somewhat of an advantage. After slamming Raven down and
seemingly hurting his arm, Angle focused on the left arm and shoulder for a
short time until Raven started coming back.

Angle was once again rocked much like he was at the beginning of the match,
but with the match getting on for twenty minutes, Raven wasn't quite able to
pepper Angle with the same pace of ferocity he had done at the start. Indeed,
two long matches in as many days left Raven looking exhausted and unable to
really follow up on his offence, Angle was able to grab a leg and put the
ankle lock on. Despite desperately twisting for all his might, Angle just
couldn't get Raven to tap out and urging his body on, the former champion was
able to get the ropes. Angle was now more concerned about bitching with the
ref and it cost him as Raven mounted another comeback. Angle raked the eyes and
went for the Olympic Slam but Raven was able to land on his feet and a quick
kick left Angle prone for the Evenflow. Thinking fast, Angle shoved Raven away,
right into the ref.

With nobody watching things, Angle was left to put the boots to the fallen
Raven and once again slapped on the ankle lock. Still Raven refused to tap and
after reaching the ropes, he found the room to grab Angle by his own leg,
tripping him down, and Raven put an ankle lock of his own on. Angle was now on
the verge of tapping (not that it would have made a difference without a ref)
but it wouldn't last as Ulf Herman stormed the ring and took Ravens head almost
off his shoulders with a huge big boot to the temple. Raven was nearly knocked
cold and Angle limped up to hit Raven with the Olympic Slam before the ref
crawled over and administered the three count. With that, Kurt Angle has gotten
himself a title shot at Jerry Lynn at Ground Zero and the good news is that all
the complaining about missing the Royal Rumble will go away now. The bad news
is that if this guy wins the title, we may never hear the last of it.

Kurt Angle pinned Raven with the Olympic Slam in 0:19:42.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

Matt's Random Thoughts and Other Nonessential Observations:

Raven/Angle tonight? Cool, but I hope Raven wins, because well I mark for Raven.

Haiku Reading Jeff Hardy may be one of the greatest gimmicks in the history of wrestling so good to see that he gets the duke over Tajiri. Meanwhile Muraco is pissed, but money by Wright seems to sooth everything over. Herman doesn't seem to want to apologize, so no doubt this situation is still brewing.

Kash and Low Ki win? That was a bit of a surprise, considering how awesome Gordy and williams are, but not that I'm complaining as Ki/Kash seems like quite the interesting team, if they stick together.

Eddie wins! Great! Jericho comes out and gets into with Eddie, but out come the rest of that diabolical Guerrero clan to beat up Jericho and Chavito! The bastards, those bastards, those bastards, all they do is lie, cheat, and steal, the bastards. Good match by the way.

Tag Team title match was excellent, but what else would you expect from these two teams.

SQUASH! Putski's good for cannon fodder, but not much else, so this was one of the more predictable outcomes on the card.

Oh no, the Rock N Roll Express are bickering. Gibson does have a point, Morton gets more credit than Gibson, hence the term "Playing Ricky Morton". I look forward to seeing where this storyline heads.

Kidman and Corino win, Corino has a surprise next week. Can hardly way.

The Pussy Challenge. Tee-hee. Fleisch is up for the challenge and Roma gets murdered, as do the MSP. Rubber match between Fleish and Hardy at Wrestlefest VIII. I think Matt will be up for the challenge.

So Angle wins. Boo-urns! The good news is, we'll get a good match between him and Lynn at Ground Zero, but I'm pulling for Lynn. Still, good match, carried by Raven no doubt :)

So, anyway good comeback for DWF. Now I've got step out to work on my latest card. Bye now.
AzraelPosted on 04/30/08 at 03:58:35

Oh my gawd, it's back!

Jerry Lynn stands tall in his first promo as World champ, but shenanigans ensue with Raven and especially Angle. I like the super irritating take on Angle.

Jeff Hardy's poetry makes even disheartened referees weep. I also actually care about Ulf Hermann, which could best described as unexpected.

Ki and Kash pick up a huge win, but it's the background of their uneasy alliance. Don't see them contending for the titles, but it should be fun to see how long they can last.

Don't trust a Guerrero, etc, etc.

Good match for the tag titles. Pretty Perfect looks even stronger for beating Edge & Christian clean.

Ricky Morton should look Robert Gibson in the face everyday and be glad that he's not Robert Gibson.

Good match with the magnanimous Corino letting Kidman get his smile back. Interested to see what he has in store for next week.

Poor Roma. Not just getting whooped, but getting whooped by Jody Fleisch. Doesn't anybody have a heart in the DWF?

Good match for the main event. Angle will be a good first real challenger for Lynn. I'm really not sure who would win that. And Raven will be after the German/Hawaiian/bad poet contingent surely.

Snabbit888Posted on 04/30/08 at 12:13:32

Ooh... DWF back!  This is madness!  I don't even know where to begin.

Oh yeah... ugh.  I STILL am upset that you had Muraco lose the title.  I know Jerry Lynn is a DWF legend and all, but... Muraco had so much momentum and even if it wasn't clean, it seems a bit deflating.  However, some Jeff Hardy awesomeness cures what ails me!

Pretty Perfect would have legitimately been an awesome team.  Glad to see them still rocking DWF.

Though DWF's version of La Resistance rules a lot... ugh to the Intercontinental tag titles.  Ugh ugh ugh. :)

Great main event, and Angle is a good choice for Lynn to defeat leading up to Wrestlefest.  Will help establish this *cough* ill-advised *cough* title reign. :)

Good to see DWF back.  I missed it so.

You are bitter aren't you. :p

Though DWF's version of La Resistance rules a lot... ugh to the Intercontinental tag titles. Ugh ugh ugh. :)

While I was in limbo, I came up with something to shake that particular title up. It gets REALLY dumb after a while, but then the DWF was always designed to amuse me and irritate you. But that's a few months off yet.

Will help establish this *cough* ill-advised *cough* title reign. :)

Bite me. :)
