UW Fury (7/3/06)

MatteusPosted on 04/16/08 at 22:10:23

Welcome back to UW Fury!  This week promises to be something else, as Triple H will put his World title on the line against a man he has yet to pin in UW, Booker T!  Also, this week will see a big six-man tag team match as "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown teams with Limited Edition to face Team Canada!  With their respective matches looming on the horizon at Mercury Rising, both squads will be looking to grab any advantage they can leading up to the pay-per-view.  Petey Williams won UW Hybrid title last week only to and quickly lose it to the new UW King, Edge.  Edge and Teddy Hart will be in the arena tonight.  What plots are the Rated R King and the X Rated Prince going to concoct for the UW roster tonight?  Finally, Samoa Joe will make his in-ring debut this week as well, and after attacking John Cena last week, you've got to suspect that Cena will have payback on his mind.

Let's get to the show!

UW Fury (7/3/06)

The show opens backstage with Triple H dropping off his gear in the locker room, only to find Booker T awaiting him.  Booker rises and the two stare down before Booker wishes The Game luck tonight.  They stare at one another intensely before Booker leaves...

Generation Next (Gregory Shane Helms, Austin Aries, and Alex Shelley) defeated
Charles Smith and Corey Morgan and Jason Blade when Aries pinned Smith after a reverse neckbreaker in 0:07:57.
Rating: ** 3/4

Generation Next essentially put on a clinic in wrestling these three young local wrestlers tonight.  Generation Next looked especially strong with their teamwork tonight and made fairly quick work of their opponents.  After the match, Helms called for a microphone, reminding the crowd that last week's loss to Booker T was a fluke and that Generation Next's time was now!  Aries said that they've been glossed over long enough and their time to shine is upon us.  Shelley concluded by telling his stable mates that it's time to make an impact...

Backstage, Sean O'Haire and Chavo cut a promo planting a seed of doubt in the minds of North American champion Shelton Benjamin and his tag team partner Charlie Haas.   Chavo says that Shelton and Charlie are no longer the "World's Greatest Tag Team", it's been too long and Charlie is certainly still too unstable.  O'Haire is ominous as he states that Mercury Rising will be the beginning of the end for Shelton Benjamin's title reign, prophesying that Charlie Haas won't be the North American champion's savior.

Sean O'Haire defeated John Cena via pinfall in 0:06:35.
Rating: *** 1/2

Sean O'Haire and John Cena had a knock-down drag-out brawl in their match tonight.  Cena looked strong, but unfortunately O'Haire was just too driven and was able to pin Cena after the Prophecy.  During the match, the WGTT cut an insert promo on O'Haire and Chavo saying that no matter what they say and what schemes they've hatched, they are STILL the World's Greatest Tag Team and they are set to prove it at Mercury Rising.  But as a preview, they're set for tag team action next week as they've been scheduled to face Major League in their first tag team match back together!

After the O'Haire/Cena match, Cena lay on the ground regaining consciousness when Samoa Joe raced to the ring with JBL barking orders from behind!  Cena was ripe for the picking as Joe choked him out with the Kokina Clutch.  With Cena defenseless, JBL grabbed Joe a chair and tossed it in the center of the ring, instructing Joe to finish the job.  Joe lifted up Cena and delivered  a Muscle Buster onto the chair!  But that obviously wasn't enough, as JBL instructed him to do it once more! After the attack, paramedics rushed to the ring to tend to Cena as JBL and Samoa Joe walked up the ramp, confidently.

Back in the ring after the break, Petey Williams, Bobby Roode, and Eric Young, Team Canada were in the ring cutting a promo for their match later on tonight against Monty Brown and Limited Edition.  Roode and Young said they didn't care what Dinsmore and Conway's intentions were at Kingdom Come.  They made an enormous mistake when they cost Team Canada the titles.  At Mercury Rising, they're going to get back to the top of the tag ranks the best way possible: beating Limited Edition.  Williams had much to say and was still obviously dismayed and angered about losing the Hybrid title so quickly to the Rated R King last week.  He told Edge that he would be invoking his rematch clause in two weeks time on Fury, and that when he wins his title back, Monty Brown is going to find out that he shouldn't step foot outside the Serengeti and into the Great White North.

Steven Richards pinned Bryan D with the Stevie-T in 0:05:54.
Rating: *** 1/4
[Sonny Sianki interfered against Bryan D.]

Steven Richards was impressive this week as he had tag team partner Sonny Siaki by his side for his match against another local talent, Bryan D.  Siaki continually stuck his nose in the match, but "Superstar" Steven Richards was able to put his opponent away with the Stevie-T.  During the match, the WGTT was shown backstage scouting their opponents for next week.  Can Benjamin and Haas reclaim their past dominance or will Major League get back on track in the tag ranks next week?

Backstage, President Matteus was shown in his office as he announced for the crowd that at Mercury Rising, MNM would be placing the UW World Tag Team titles on the line against the team that defeated them last week on Fury, Paul London and Brian Kendrick!

Samoa Joe pinned Damaja after a Muscle Buster in 0:05:24.
Rating: ** 1/2

Joe has arrived, and he is dominant.  Samoa Joe looked impressive facing Damaja tonight, as he stretched him and beat him with a flurry of maneuvers that generally have not been seen here in UW.  Joe is a very different, very brutal competitor.  And with JBL calling the shots, who knows what's in store for the rest of UW?  We found out during this match that as a result of Joe's attack earlier this evening, John Cena suffered a back injury.  It's not known how long Cena will be out for, but when he returns there is guaranteed to be hell to pay.

After the commercial break, Damaja was shown backstage and once again Basham came to talk to him.  Damaja said that he read the letter that his former partner had given him last week, but it doesn't matter.  He's not interested.  Basham told him he's making a big mistake, but Damaja retorted by saying that he doesn't care how much money he's offering.  Basham told him that he's offering more than money, and next week he's going to derail Joe because Damaja couldn't.  He left the scene and Damaja was left wondering what he meant by that.

Limited Edition (Rob Conway and Nick Dinsmore) and Monty Brown and
Bobby Roode, Eric Young and Petey Williams battled to a no-contest in 0:15:13.
Rating: *** 1/2
[Gregory Shane Helms interfered against Monty Brown.]
[Austin Aries and Alex Shelley interfered against Petey Williams.]

A fantastic match was marred by the interference of Generation Next tonight!  Looking to have the match in hand, Brown was going to nail Eric Young with the Pounce, but Helms, Aries, and Shelley hit the ring with chairs in hand and leveled the competition, taking out both teams!  They laid them all out and stood proudly in the ring, though Helms broke the triumphant moment by lifting his incapacitated nemesis Monty Brown and hitting him with a Shining Wizard for good measure.  He spit on his prone body as Gen Next left the ring.  They've made their impact it seems, but what's going to happen from here?

Triple H and Booker T were shown on the split screen walking toward the ring for their main event match for the World title as we cut to commercial...

Triple H defeated Booker T by disqualification in 0:13:04.
Rating: ****
(Triple H retained the UW World Title.)
[Edge interfered against Triple H.]

What a travesty!  Once again, a fantastic match between World champion Triple H and Booker T is unsettled and marred by controversy, this time at the hands of UW Hybrid champion Edge!  Edge sauntered down to the ring partway through the match, observing both individuals with a smirk on his face.  Triple H was about to win the match it seemed, as he hit the Pedigree on Booker and covered him, but Edge broke the count and started to attack the champion, causing the DQ!  After the match, Teddy Hart handcuffed a barely conscious Booker T to the ropes as he and Edge grabbed a pair of chairs and delivered a vicious Conchairto to Triple H's skull!  Edge said he doesn't have to look any further for the next challenger to his title, because by royal decree of the Rated R King, he'll be getting a title shot at Mercury Rising!  Edge stood triumphantly in the ring with Teddy Hart, holding both the World and Hybrid titles high to close the show.

It's officially been announced that Triple H will face Edge for the World title at Mercury Rising.  Just what does the King have in store for The Game at the pay-per-view?  Edge has already made a severe impact just 8 days removed from winning Kingdom Come.  Will his dominance continue at Mercury Rising?

Good show as the matches for the next PPV keep lining up nicely.  Booker obviously wasn't going to win, and I don't necessarily like Edge that quickly cashing in a second royal decree to get a World Title shot.  I don't buy that he's going to really have a good shot at HHH, but we shall see.
