UW Fury (6/26/06)

MatteusPosted on 04/15/08 at 22:15:39

Welcome to UW Fury!  On the night after Kingdom Come, we have a new King as Edge defeated John Cena, Monty Brown, and Booker T to claim the crown.  His methods weren't so clean however, as John Cena was done in by JBL's self-proclaimed "terminator" Samoa Joe.  Monty Brown was done in rather accidentally, as Petey Williams, unable to control his frustration with the Rated R Superstar, attacked Edge and caused the DQ.  The Alpha Male didn't take kindly to this and chased after Williams after the match.  Apparently, Edge will have his coronation ceremoony and speech tonight, but he's not the only triumphant King in town.  Triple H defeated Randy Orton to retain the World title and sent him to the hospital afterward due to an attack with his sledgehammer.  Triple H is in the arena tonight; what will The Game have to say about his attack last night and what lies ahead for the champion?

Also last night, MNM retained the tag team gold, defeating Team Canada's Bobby Roode and Eric Young with an accidental assist from Limited Edition!  Team Canada is none too happy about what transpired last night, but tonight Nick Dinsmore and Rob Conway will be on Planet Jarrett to say their piece and hopefully make peace.  Also tonight, we will determine our first UW Hybrid champion as the four men losing in the first round of last night's Kingdom Come tournament (Shelton Benjamin, John Cena, Petey Williams, and Sean O'Haire) will face off in a fatal fourway match for the vacant title!  With Benjamin and O'Haire in the same ring, something's sure to explode...

Let's get to the action!

UW Fury (6/26/06)

TRIPLE H HAS NEW CHALLENGERS

The show opens with the UW World champion Triple H walking in with title belt and sledgehammer in tow.  He said that last night he put an end to the so-called "Legend Killer" to rest.  He suffered a serious concussion, head trauma and numerous internal injuries.  We shouldn't expect to see Orton again for quite some time, if ever, which the crowd greatly appreciated.  Hunter began to say he was awaiting his next challenger when Booker T's music played and Book came out immediately to challenge Triple H for the title!  Booker said they had unfinished business, and he's hasn't defeated Booker T one-on-one in UW.  Hunter accepted a match for next week, but Gregory Shane Helms was none-too-pleased about this, saying that it was Generation Next's time and Booker got very lucky last night.  He challenged Booker to a match tonight with the winner facing Triple H for the title next week.  Booker accepted and we have our main event!

"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. Shark Boy

Shark Boy made his, shall we say, inauspicious debut tonight for UW going up against our resident freight train, Monty Brown.  Brown, still obviously pissed off about losing to Edge last night due to Petey William's interference, tore into Shark Boy like a man possessed.  The Alpha Male obviously thought it was his time to shine last night and our newest job boy was in the wrong place at the wrong time, receiving a Pounce and losing impressively.

Monty Brown pinned Shark Boy with the Pounce in 0:03:04.
Rating: ** 3/4

After the match, Brown, who had barely broken a sweat, grabbed a microphone and immediately challenged Petey Williams to a match at Mercury Rising.  His selfishness cost the Alpha Male his Kingdom last night, and now he's going to learn the rules of the Serengeti.

JBL'S SUBMISSION MACHINE

Backstage, Boy Numbertu was standing by with JBL and Samoa Joe.  JBL reintroduced the viewing audience to his Samoan Submission Machine, and said that's just what Joe is.  A machine created and employed specifically to do JBL's bidding and to make Layfield more money.  Cena got a taste of what Joe can do last night, but he's not done.  Cena ended JBL's career and his newest acquisition's first mission is to eliminate John Cena.  He warns Cena one more time to watch his back.  Joe didn't say a word during the interview, but the look on his face said everything.  "I'm here to destroy".

Charlie Haas vs. Damaja

Shelton Benjamin stood int he corner for this match, cheering his former tag team partner and good friend on.  Charlie Haas has been out of active competition for months now.  After a mental breakdown such as he's had, it's understandable.  But tonight he stepped back into the ring with a formidable competitor in Damaja, the former Danny Basham.  Damaja took it right to Haas from the get-go and it looked like Charlie was showing some ring rust.  Damaja is a strong competitor who seems to still be finding his place as a singles competitor.  His ferocious offense kept Haas at bay, but Charlie was soon able to take Damaja to the mat and had his way with him, eventually locking in a Fujiwara armbar.  Damaja had no choice but to tap out.

Charlie Haas made Damaja submit to a Fujiwara armbar in 0:07:16.
Rating: ** 1/4

A successful first step in the return of Charlie Haas!  Shelton and he celebrated in the ring, and we quickly received word afterward that a match has been made for Mercury Rising featuring the World's Greatest Tag Team!  Benjamin and Haas will face the demented Sean O'Haire and his disciple Chavo!  That match is should be explosive!

BASHAM TRIES TO CONFRONT DAMAJA AGAIN

Backstage, Damaja was lamenting his loss to Charlie Haas when his former tag team partner Basham walked up to him.  Damaja told him to go, saying he didn't want to hear it two weeks ago and he doesn't want to hear it now.  Basham assured him that this was on the up-and-up and that Damaja should listen.  Damaja told him one last time to leave, but Basham left him with a note and told him to read it.

PETEY WILLIAMS DOESN'T BACK DOWN

Backstage, Boy Numbertu was interviewing Petey Williams regarding last night's attack on Edge and how he cost Monty Brown a shot at becoming King.  Williams fessed up, saying that he made a horrible choice in judgment last night and it was probably his fault that Edge won Kingdom Come last night.  He apologized to Monty Brown, but said he's going above and beyond in calling Petey out like this.  He told the Alpha male that if he wants to try and push Petey Williams around, he's going to find that it's a lot tougher than he thinks!  He accepted Brown's challenge and it's set for Mercury Rising!

CORONATION OF "THE RATED R KING" EDGE

"X-Rated" Teddy Hart came down to the ring and prompted the crowd to rise to their feet to greet UW's new King... "The Rated R King" Edge!  Edge came to the ring decked out in a leather robe with a silver metal crown and a silver scepter.  He said that from here on in, all will bow to him and his will shall be done!  He has three royal decrees to use, three matches he can make for any place at any time, and he intends to use them as opportunely as possible.  He promised to rule with an iron fist and that by the end of the year, he will wear gold in UW.  He concluded by remind Team Canada that he hasn't forgotten the "little people", and he'll be sure to make their collective life a living hell...

Non-Title Match:
MNM (c) w/ Melina vs. Paul London & Brian Kendrick

Last week, London and Kendrick defeated Major League in three stages of tag Team Warfare.  This unofficially set them up as top contenders to MNM's tag team gold.  After their match against Team Canada last night, Nitro and Mercury weren't looking their normal Hollywood golden selves, though Melina's screech was in full force.  London and Kendrick are a well-oiled machine in the ring, and they were fantastic tonight taking on the champions.  In the end of this back-and-forth match, MNM tried to cheat to win as usual, as Mercury covered Kendrick with his feet on the ropes, but the ref saw it and London ran in to deliver a dropsault to Nitro, allowing Kendrick to hit Mercury with the Sliced Bread #2 to get the pinfall in this non-title match.

Rating: *** 1/4

It may have been a non-title match, but this was enormous for London and Kendrick!  After defeating Major League last week and now defeating the champions, they have to be considered Top Contenders to the tag team gold!

PLANET JARRETT W/ LIMITED EDITION

Former UW World champion Jeff Jarrett, still recovering from his elbow surgery, was in the ring next interviewing "Mr. Wrestling" Nick Dinsmore and "Iron Man" Rob Conway, Limited Edition.  He reminded them that the last time they made an unannounced appearance on Planet Jarrett, they nearly destroyed the set in an all-out brawl with MNM.  Speaking of MNM, Jarrett goaded Limited Edition with the fact that they will not receive a title match until MNM lost the belts.  Jarrett questioned them about last night, costing Team Canada their chance at the gold.  Dinsmore took exception, saying they had tried to apologize last night, but Team Canada obviously wouldn't listen. Conway added that their problem is with MNM, not Roode and Young.  This brought Team Canada out to argue their point, but there wasn't much to argue before a brawl ensued!  UW Security broke this one up, but there is obviously a score to be settled here...

After the commercial, it was announced that due to events transpiring this evening, Limited Edition will face Team Canada at Mercury Rising!  But Team Canada's front man will have a test of his own at the pay-per-view, as Petey Williams will face "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown!  As a preview to the match-ups, next week's Fury will feature a six-man tag match as Team Canada will face Monty Brown and Limited Edition!  And don't forget that next week Triple H will place his World title on the line against either Booker T or Gregory Shane Helms!

UW Hybrid Title Fatal Fourway Match:
Shelton Benjamin vs. John Cena vs. Petey Williams vs. Sean O'Haire

"Hybrid wrestling" is meant to incorporate, encompass, and showcase many forms and styles of professional wrestling at it's finest.  And we certainly had much of that here, as two high-flying, technical marvels in North American champ Shelton Benjamin and former Tag Team and Cruiserweight champion Petey Williams took part against one another as well as the brawling and raw fighting style of John Cena and the powerhouse Sean O'Haire.  This match was one fall to a finish and was contested under hybrid wrestling rules, which in this case meant a 20 count was implemented, tags could be made by a wrestler exiting the ring, and no disqualifications.  The idea is for both champion and challenger to use the ring, rules, and their own style to the best of their ability to win and/or retain the gold.

This match was something of a clusterfuck to begin with, as Benjamin and O'Haire tore into one another while Cena and Petey paired off.  Once the smoke cleared though, this was really a fantastic match.  Shelton and O'Haire were both very eager to get back into the ring when their respective nemesis was in, using the hybrid tag rules to their advantage.  O'Haire used a number of rope chokes while Benjamin went high risk-high reward with his offense.  Eventually, these two brawled to the back, leaving Cena and Petey to fight for the title.  Cena is a powerful fighter, and he had Petey on the ropes most of the time.  But Williams showed that he can go toe-to-toe with the larger competitors and held his own, nearly defeating Cena with a Canadian Destroyer, but Cena kicked out!  Despite Cena getting his second win and going for the F-U, it wasn't to be as Samoa Joe ran to the ring and began kicking Cena in the ribs before hitting him with a Muscle Buster and choking him out with the Kokina Clutch.  He leveled Williams with a stiff clothesline for good measure and placed him atop Cena as the ref counted the fall...

(Petey Williams won the UW Hybrid Title.)

Well thank to some unwanted help from that beast Samoa Joe, Petey Williams is the new UW Hybrid champion!  When he finally came to, the ref awarded him the brand new title and he raised it in victory!  Another belt to add to the list of Williams's accomplishments here in UW!  And of course, this means that his match with Monty Brown at Mercury Rising would be the the Hybrid title!  Of course, this was until Edge's music played and out came the Rated R King with Teddy Hart!  Edge proclaimed that he was cashing in his first royal decree and made a match with Petey for the Hybrid title right now!

UW Hybrid Title Match:
Petey Williams (c) vs. "The Rated R King" Edge

Petey was so worn out and beaten from his fatal fourway and the clothesline from Joe that he was still rather out of his senses.  Edge nailed him with a Edgecution and Petey instinctively kicked out!  Edge his the Edgecutter and again only got a two count!  Teddy Hart tossed Edge his scepter and Edge proceeded to beat Petey senseless with it!  Taking full advantage of the hybrid rules, he waited for Petey to arise and leveled him with the Spear as the referee counted the pinfall.

Edge pinned Petey Williams with the Spear in 0:03:01.
Rating: ***
(Edge won the UW Hybrid Title.)

And just like that, we have a brand new champion... again!  Petey's reign lasted all of 5 minutes as Edge capitalized on another opportunity and became the new UW Hybrid champion!  Edge promised to wear gold by the end of the year, but he fulfilled his own prophecy by the end of night one of his reign!

Top Contender Match:
Booker T vs. Gregory Shane Helms

Gregory Shane Helms strutted triumphantly to the ring with his cohorts from Generation Next, Austin Aries and Alex Shelley, as Booker still looked beaten from last night's attacks by Helms, Edge, and especially Sean O'Haire and Chavo.  Helms took advantage of this at every turn, and Aries and Shelley got themselves involved when the referee had his back turned as well.  But the ref caught wise soon enough and banished Gen Next from ringside, much to their dismay and the fans' delight.  Booker would have capitalized right away, were he not so hurt and fatigued.  The younger Helms took advantage and kept up the attack.  He went for a Shining Wizard early, but Booker kicked out and was soon on the offensive.  Booker's strength and savvy turned out t o be too much for Helms, as Book eventually dropped the leader of Generation Next with the Book End and covered him for the pinfall victory!

Booker T pinned Gregory Shane Helms after the Book End in 0:14:15.
Rating: ****

Booker T wins!  He'll go on to face the World champion Triple H next week!  The last two times these two have crossed paths, Triple H was unable to pin Booker and Triple H cost Book a shot at his title last month... what's going to happen next week when these two battle once again for the top prize in professional wrestling?

Matches announced for Mercury Rising (7/30/06):

The World's Greatest Tag Team vs. Sean O'Haire & Chavo

"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. Petey Williams

Limited Edition vs Team Canada (Roode/Young)

Odd you're not setting up HHH vs. Booker for the next pay-per-view, at least how the first segment makes it sound.  We'll see what else you have in store, Mr. Man!

I have a good feeling that Brown is going to kill Petey.  Poor Petey. :(

Samoa Joe gets a lot of rub coming in and should be able to kick a lot of ass.

Haas returns (truthfully, I need a little backstory for why he was gone) and wins impressively, and we get a reunion of the WGTT at Mercury Rising against O'Haire and Chavo, which will be good I imagine.

Basham passing Damaja love notes!  Adorable.

Ah... Petey mans up and apologizes, but is still willing to get his ass kicked.  I love that.

Just for clarification on the King thing... so Edge can make any 3 matches he wants in a year period, correct?  Not just involving him but involving anyone else?

Kendrick and London rule an awful lot.  MNM rules... so hard, so I want them to feud for these titles immediately.  Do it!

Jarrett needs to stop inviting Conway and Dinsmore to his show... it just leads to fighting and stuff.

I'm not entirely sure I like the idea of the Hybrid Title... it just seems like it could murky up the title scene more.  I am more of a fan of "less is more," but I'll give this some time to run before I make any final judgments.  It does make the title seem important though that Edge already used a royal decree to capitalize and take the gold.

Booker wins in the main event, as I expected, and now it's HHH vs. Booker next week, which should be awesome.  Just a note, you put that Booker won with the Scissor Kick in the notes, but the results say he won with a Soviet suplex.  Just so you know. :)

You're a damn liar, Ryan!  It clearly says that Booker won with the Book End... and there's no WAY I edited that...

::)
