Analysis:

Fairly predictable stuff. All the higher ranked wrestlers won with two minor exceptions. The big story so far is Matt pinned his own brother after a ridiculously short match. Bloggers and sports writers across the nation are outraged and are saying that Jeff threw the match and are calling for him to be fined. And I am among those outraged.

For years it's been speculated that the Hardy brothers have a professional relationship similar to the Williams sisters (Serena & Venus) in tennis in that they never truly compete against each other and plan out the winner ahead of time. If this is true and Jeff really did throw the match, than Unright should consider barring him from the tournament indefinitely.

The other upset involved 2-time IWGP Heavyweight champion Hiroshi Tanahashi (10) advancing over #7 ranked Nigel McGuinness. It's a minor upset but ROH fans have got to be disapointed.

Milano Collection A.T. gave Kurt Angle a tougher fighter than expected as he made the former gold medalist go over 30 minutes before Angle his a flying forearm to get the pin. Does Kurt deserve his #1 seed? What seemed like a foregone conclusion is now shrouded in doubt. Matt Hardy might have a strong chance of knocking Angle out of the tournament if the TNA champ is too plagued by injury to compete at the level of intensity that this tournament demands.

Justin: 10/16
King: 9/16

Let me pause for a moment to give thanks to the sponsor of this tournament. TNKUK.com <-- Reccommended for all your TNM export needs!

KEEP AN EYE ON:

In the Rude Conference, I'm predicting it will all come down to a showdown between Bobby Lashley and John Cena. And if you press me, I'm going to say that Lashley will probably come out as the winner.

In the Awesome Conference, with Angle looking weak, I would expect whomever wins the eventual match-up between Samoa Joe and The Undertaker will probably take the conference.

STAY TUNED:

Tomorrow: The results of the first round of the Bigelow & the Bravo Conferences.

Analysis:
Holy Shit. What an upset!! Brent Albright locks in an armbar and manages to eliminate Edge, the number 1 ranked seed in the Bravo Conference. Reporters tried to get a statement from Edge, but he shut himself in his lockerroom and wouldn't talk to anyone.

The other note-worthy match in the Bravo Conference was the surprising speed in which Christian Cage got the win over Sabu. With Edge out of the tournament, Cage looks to be the ods-on favorite.

In the Bigelow Conference, the big news is that the Big Show won his match against Christopher Daniels. This means that Mistico will have to face an opponent that is nearly 3 times his size. Experts feel that next to someone like Shawn Michaels, the Big Show is the toughest competition that Mistico could face in this conference.

Analysis:

As we head into the conference finals, things are starting to get really interesting. Another number one seed has fallen as John Cena got pinned by Mitsuharu Misawa after a tiger driver. Misawa will go onto face Perro Aguayo Jr. who has been decimating the competition with a variety of moves.

In the Awesome Conference, Samoa Joe managed to get the Undertaker to submit to his Kokina Clutch, and now his reward is to go on and face Kurt Angle. Angle seemed to have trouble at first, but lately he seems to be finding his groove. Angle has yet to win any matches with either his Angle Slam or his Angle Lock.

In the disjointed Bravo Conference, Christian Cage lost to Takeshi Morishima, so the conference final will take place between number 5 ranked King Booker and number 3 Morishima. Booker has been an underdog powerhouse during this tournament, but Morishima's Backdrop Suplex has been destroying everything in it's path.

Finally, the Bigelow Conference will see Mistico face Shawn Michaels in the only No.1 vs No.2 game this tournament. Mistico has been doing great so far, toppling Marcus Cor Von, The Big Show, and Minoru Suzuki in a sorta graceful ease. Likewise, Michaels has plowed through his opponents in a series of excellent matches. The winner of this match may find themselves winning the whole tournament.

FINAL FOUR MATCHUPS

Samoa Joe vs Perro Aguayo Jr.

Takeshi Morishima vs Mistico

Interesting... No WWE wrestlers made it to the Final Four, yet two Luchadores and two ROH champions did.
King_Of_Old_SchoolPosted on 04/11/08 at 09:22:20

I'm picking Joe over Perro and Mistico over Morishima, then Joe chokes out Mistico in the final.
rey619Posted on 04/11/08 at 12:48:36

I'm going with Morishima and Joe in the finals.. with Morishima winning.

Final Four

Samoa Joe (3) defeated Perro Aguayo Jr. (2) when Perro Aguayo Jr. passed out in the Kokina Clutch in 0:07:09.
Rating: *** 3/4

Mistico (1) pinned Takeshi Morishima (3) after a corkscrew splash in 0:12:13.
Rating: ** 1/2

And for the PWI March Madness Championship

Mistico (1) made Samoa Joe (3) submit to a side headlock in 0:04:59.
Rating: ****

Mistico wins!

The current CMLL Welterweight champion stuns the world by making Samoa Joe submit to a frigging side headlock!

---

If anyone is wondering I ran this tournament with strict pushes on so the higher ranked wrestler would generally win (as it happens with college basketball). Number 1 seeds had a 100 push, Number 2 had 94 push, Number 3 had 88 push and so on all the way to Number 16 seeds who had a push of 10.

So it was a pretty huge upset when 100 push Edge lost to 10 push Brent Albright.

All in all I think it was a pretty fun tournament. Thanks to everyone who replied and/or made predictions. Hopefully Místico will get used in a ton of TNM circuits as his reward.
Darth_KrawliePosted on 04/12/08 at 06:13:21

This was really cool, but man, how anti-climatic to have it end with a side headlock!  Hahaha.
