UW Kingdom Come (06/24/07)

MatteusPosted on 04/08/08 at 21:36:13

Hey!  Trying to post new stuff for my Unlimited Wrestling circuit... I know it's been awhile, but Ric Flair's retirement got me into the spirit again.  Is there nothing he CAN'T do?

Anyway... I tried to explain as much as I could throughout but for more back story and history, check out my page at geocities.com/colmatteus and click the Results link... otherwise, enjoy!

UW Kingdom Come (06/24/07):

Welcome to Unlimited Wrestling's annual Kingdom Come pay-per-view and one-night tournament!  Tonight is sure to be explosive, as we have eight men set to compete to become UW's King for 2006, including North American champion Shelton Benjamin and his rival, the demented Sean O'Haire, Monty Brown and the thorn in his side, Generation Next's Gregory Shane Helms, Booker T, Edge, and John Cena.  Further, as JBL has decided to retire from active competition, his spot in the tournament has been vacated.  JBL promised to hire a "Terminator" of sorts to destroy John Cena and run the table here tonight, but Matteus has announced that JBL's hired gun will not take part in tonight's tournament!  Rather, Team Canada's Petey Williams will be taking his place in the hopes of potentially making it to the semi-finals to face his nemesis Edge!  Up for grabs in the tournament is the power to make three royal decrees over the next 365 days.  This means the winner can make three matches, with whoever, whatever, and whenever they so desire.

In other action tonight, the World Tag Team titles will be up for grabs as Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury, MNM, defend against Team Canada's Bobby Roode and Eric Young!  MNM has seemed to have Team Canada's number, as Nitro pinned Roode in a six-man tag two weeks ago.  But Roode and Young are promising to rebound, and with the former champs Nick Dinsmore and Rob Conway, Limited Edition, promising to do whatever it takes to make MNM lose their gold, Nitro, Mercury, and Melina can't be too confident.  Remember, as long as MNM are tag champions, Limited Edition cannot have another title shot.

And finally, the World title is on the line tonight as "The Game" Triple H defends against "The Legend Killer" Randy Orton!  It was almost a year ago that Randy Orton donned a mask and viciously attacked Triple H with a pipe, putting him out of commission and almost ending his career.  Orton recently made this known and after defeating Booker T in a Top Contender match (with the help of an irate Triple H), went on to sneak attack Triple H during an episode of Planet Jarrett two weeks ago.  It doesn't get any more intense than this... what will happen tonight??

Kingdom Come Tournament, First Round:
North American champion Shelton Benjamin vs. Gregory Shane Helms

Our opening contest saw two of UW's top young, talented athletes competing for the right to move on.  Recently, Shelton Benjamin reunited with former tag team partner Charlie Haas, who had essentially broken down mentally.  But after seeing a therapist for some time, Haas returned to even the score against Sean O'Haire and his disciple Chavo (no longer Guerrero).  Helms, however, was focused as always and took advantage early on.  It seemed as if O'Haire's mind games had taken a toll on the champion's psyche, but he recovered quickly and went on a streak, hitting high-impact and high-risk maneuvers.  Unfortunately, trickery came into play late in the match, as Shelton seemed to have the match in control, but when the referee turned his back, Helms clapped his hands and fell to the ground, holding his groin and writhing in pain.  The referee turned around and irate, began to shout at Benjamin!  He believed Shelton hit him with a low blow and called for the bell!

Gregory Shane Helms defeated Shelton Benjamin by disqualification in 0:10:04.
Rating: ***

What a terrible way to close out our terrific first contest!  Helms gained the win in shady fashion.  But regardless, he moves on and has seemed to conserve some energy in getting Benjamin DQed after the first 10 minutes.  But what awaits him in the semi-finals and beyond?

Backstage, JBL was seen yelling at UW President Matteus in his office.  We couldn't pick up everything that was being said, but JBL mentioned something about this being a travesty and that Matteus doesn't know what hell he's wrought...

Kingdom Come Tournament, First Round:
Booker T vs. Sean O'Haire

Sean O'Haire came into this match calm and centered, but as soon as the bell rang, he was a bat out of hell.  He punished and tortured Booker T mercilessly, pounding away on his ribs and working on his back.  Booker refused to give up, despite O'Haire constantly whispering in his ear about the end being near.  Book fought back and eventually gained the upper hand, but just as it seemed he'd have things in tow, O'Haire would hit one good shot to the ribs and the ball was right back in O'Haire's court.  But Booker is a tough veteran and eventually gained the upper hand and hit the Scissor Kick, stunning O'Haire long enough to pick up the victory.

Booker T pinned Sean O'Haire with the Scissor Kick in 0:16:12.
Rating: ****

After the match, Sean O'Haire and Chavo took turns laying into Booker T, attacking his ribs and back further.  Thankfully, TWGTT came out and made the save.  Looks like Benjamin and Haas are back on the same page, which spells trouble for O'Haire and Chavo.  So Booker moves on and is one step closer to the Kingdom, and will face Gregory Shane Helms in the next round!  But what damage have his ribs and back taken in the process?

We headed to the back next for an interview with tonight's challenger to the World title, Randy Orton.  The Legend Killer reiterated that for the past year he's had Triple H's number and The Game hasn't even known it.  Tonight, he fulfills his destiny as the greatest in the great Orton wrestling family.  And tonight, he finishes the job he started last July.

Petey Williams, Bobby Roode, and Eric Young, Team Canada had an interview backstage next.  Williams said that it's fate that has brought him into the Kingdom Come tournament after losing an opening round match to JBL.  But he's going to make the most of it and bring the crown to Canada!  And when he does, he promises to rid UW of Edge permanently!  Roode and Young hype their upcoming match with MNM and say that they'll all bring home gold tonight.  And Roode had a special warning for Limited Edition, reminding them to stay out of their way.  Team Canada is going to win those belts on their own.

Kingdom Come Tournament, First Round:
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. Petey Williams

Petey Williams may have gotten a second life, but he certainly didn't get a helpful draw, as Brown is about as big and tough as they come.  Petey tried standing toe-to-toe with the Alpha Male early on, but Monty tossed him around the ring.  Williams soon learned his lesson and took to the ground, wearing Brown out with sleepers and submission holds.  Brown fought back every time, but Williams would soon capitalize on a mistake and take him back down.  This made for a fairly long match, but Brown would persevere, eventually hitting Williams with the Pounce to advance!

Monty Brown pinned Petey Williams with the Pounce in 0:24:47.
Rating: **** 3/4

The Alpha Male's brute power and force was too much for Petey Williams to overcome tonight.  Brown moves on the face the winner of our final first round match-up, John Cena against Edge.

Speaking of Edge, the Rated R Superstar was in back with "X-Rated" Teddy Hart, who was filming his entire interview on the X-Cam.  Edge promised to win three matches in a row tonight and said he'd be UW's King.  Hart turned the camera toward himself and interjected that unfortunately,  Edge won't be able to take out that loser Petey Williams along the way, but Edge assured that victory would still be sweet and then he'll make sure his three decrees are well spent.

Kingdom Come Tournament, First Round:
John Cena vs. "The Rated R Superstar" Edge

Cena and Edge tore the house down tonight with this back and forth contest.  Edge was able to keep Cena at bay for much of the match, but once Cena got on a roll, it was very difficult to derail him.  Cena's repertoire may not be extensive or technically sound, but it's impactful.  Cena knows what he's doing inside the squared circle, but Edge is a sneaky veteran too, and he was able to set Cena up for a Spear, but Cena caught him and lifted him up for the FU!  But JBL ran down to the ring in his suit and got on the apron.  Cena dropped Edge and chased after JBL.  Suddenly, a heavy-set man, he looked Samoan, ran over to Cena, grabbed him and hit him with a Muscle Buster!  The man left the ring and thumbed his nose, walking to the back with JBL.  Edge capitalized and waited for Cena to get to his feet, hitting him with the Spear and picking up the win.

Edge pinned John Cena with the Spear in 0:17:39.
Rating: **** 1/2
[Someone interfered against John Cena.]

What the hell was that?  Edge moves on to face the Alpha Male in the semi-finals, but more importantly, JBL must have just introduced Cena and UW to his new Terminator.  But who is he?

Melina, Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury were in back next and they started to run down Team Canada, saying that they didn't have a prayer tonight against the champions.  They promised to send Roode and Young packing tonight and began to address Limited Edition when the Samoan man walked into the scene and stared at the team menacingly.  MNM doesn't daunt easily, but they quickly made haste toward the ring.  JBL walked triumphantly into the scene and introduced the world to Samoa Joe!  Layfield said that Joe was his newest paid hand and that he would do JBL's bidding, and that includes the destruction of John Cena!  JBL has just unleashed hell on UW, and he said there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it.

UW World Tag Team Title Match:
MNM (Johnny Nitro & Joey Mercury w/ Melina) (c) vs. Team Canada (Bobby Roode & Eric Young)

Nitro and Mercury were clearly still a bit spooked as they walked toward the ring for this one, and Team Canada took advantage of it early on, double teaming the champions and nearly capturing an early three-count.  Mercury was able to gaint he upper hand and soon cornered Young and the champions worked him over.  But as would be expected, Roode got the hot tag and cleaned house.  They looked to be in control when Limited Edition came down to the ring to keep Melina from interfering in the match.  Roode began jawing with Dinsmore and Conway, and this gave Nitro and Mercury enough opportunity to recover and catch Roode with the Snapshot, as Nitro covered him for the three-count.

MNM (Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro) defeated Bobby Roode and Eric Young when
Nitro pinned Roode after the Snapshot in 0:16:45.
Rating: ** 3/4
(MNM retained the UW World Tag Team Titles.)

Unfortunately for Dinsmore and Conway, their plan backfired tonight and MNM retained the belts.  As Roode came to, he saw Limited Edition trying to apologize to Eric Young for their inadvertent interference.  But Roode was having none of it, getting in their faces.  Soon, a shoving match ensued and  UW Security came to break up a potential brawl.  This all transpired as MNM laughed and celebrated their way up the ramp.  It's starting to look like it'll be awhile before Limited Edition gets another shot at the gold.

Booker T was interviewed in back next, and he was obviously still in a lot of pain from the beating he took at the hands of Sean O'Haire and Chavo earlier.  His ribs were taped up and he was having trouble breathing, but he promised that he would defeat Gregory Shane Helms tonight and move on to become King.  This brought Helms, Aries, and Shelley out, as Generation Next mocked the injured superstar.  Helms said he'd see the old man in the ring and tonight Gen Next takes their place as UW's resident dynasty.

Kingdom Come Tournament, Semi-Finals:
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. "The Rated R Superstar" Edge

Edge was severely outmatched in this match-up.  He needed help from Samoa Joe earlier tonight to defeat the powerhouse John Cena, but Monty Brown is a whole different beast entirely.  He toyed with Edge during the beginning of the match, but Edge had an ace up his sleeve, using Teddy Hart as a distraction to gain the upper hand on Brown.  In the end, Teddy tossed Edge his X-Cam and Edge stood poised to blast the Alpha Male in the head with it as Hart distracted the ref.  This brought out Petey Williams, who went ballistic and attacked Edge with a barrage of punches!  Unfortunately, the referee turned around at this moment and disqualified Brown!

Edge defeated Monty Brown by disqualification in 0:09:17.
Rating: *** 3/4
[Petey Williams interfered against Edge.]

As Brown came to, he realized what had happened and you'd swear his eyes had turned red.  He chased after Petey Williams, but the leader of Team Canada eluded his grasp and ran to the back.  Edge moves on to the finals of the tournament after another foul finish!

Backstage, Triple H stood with the UW World title belt over his shoulder.  He told Randy Orton that he should have been more careful.  The secret that Orton was the masked man who nearly ended Triple H's career is a secret Randy Orton should have taken to his grave.  Because now Triple H is on the warpath.  The Game is awakened and ready to end Randy Orton's career.  He may have gotten the drop on him two weeks ago, but tonight it's one-on-one, and Triple H will destroy the Legend Killer!

Kingdom Come Tournament, First Round:
Booker T vs. Gregory Shane Helms

Helms was in complete control of this match-up early on, as he concentrated on the injured ribs of Booker T.  Helms used his technical prowess to keep his larger opponent at bay during the match opening.  Helms may be a loud mouth, but he has more than enough ability to back it up.  Winning Kingdom Come would be an enormous boost toward superstardom for Helms and his Generation Next stablemates.  Unfortunately, Helms' arrogance worked against him eventually, as he took much too long setting Booker up for a dramatic Shining Wizard and Booker ducked and caught him with a stiff jab to the stomach, setting him up for a Scissor Kick!  Booker nailed it and covered Helms for the pinfall...

Booker T pinned Gregory Shane Helms with the Scissor Kick in 0:06:13.
Rating: **** 1/4

You could tell Booker was in a ton of pain.  That last move combined with the assault he's taken over the course of the evening was showing, as Booker had trouble even getting to his feet.  But once he did, the fans erupted in applause, cheering him on toward the finals.  "Metalingus" by Alterbridge began to play and down to the ring raced Edge and Teddy Hart!  What opportunists!  Edge began demanding that they ring the bell, but he didn't have to wait for a fight as Booker took it right to him!  The finals had begun!

Kingdom Come Tournament, Finals:
Booker T vs. "The Rated R Superstar" Edge

Booker was ferocious, nailing Edge with a flurry of punches that nearly tossed the Rated R Superstar from the ring!  He looked to be running on pure adrenaline as he hit Edge with a hiptoss and took him down with a series of clotheslines, but he tried to lift Edge for a spinebuster and couldn't due to his injured ribs.  Edge took this opportunity and went to work on the ribs, and after that it was essentially academic.  One well-placed Spear later and Edge had won it!

Edge pinned Booker T with the Spear in 0:04:12.
Rating: *** 1/4

Edge is UW's King for 2008!  He and Teddy Hart celebrated in the ring and the devious smile on Edge's face let everyone know that the coming year is certainly going to be an interesting one.  What will Edge's three royal decrees be?  When will we find out what they are?  How will this effect Team Canada!  Hopefully, we'll find some answers tomorrow night on Fury...

UW World Title Match:
"The Game" Triple H (c) vs. "The Legend Killer" Randy Orton

This match was over a year in the making.  Triple H brought Randy Orton back to UW one year ago to join him in a reformed Evolution stable with Mark Jindrak and Sean O'Haire.  Orton appeared out of nowhere and seemed to be a loyal stablemate to Hunter, helping him retain the title against Chris Benoit.  It was only recently revealed that he would don a mask and attack Triple H with a pipe last July to cost him that same belt against Jeff Jarrett.  Now, the two met face to face and Triple H took out every ounce of frustration he had against the Legend Killer.

Hunter controlled the match and had Orton ready to quit early on, even chasing after as Orton tried to flee the building!  Upon tossing him back in the ring, however, Orton took an opportunity to attack and started working on Triple H's neck.  Orton was ruthless in the ring, stomping away at the champ without mercy.  He almost hit an RKO, but Triple H shoved him off and was able to counter with a high knee.

With the pendulum swung in his favor, the Game capitalized.  He started through his rotation of power moves and after a spinebuster looked to have it all finished.  But Orton powered out of a Pedigree and almost nailed an RKO out of nowhere!  Hunter tossed him off, did a crotch chop and kicked Orton in the gut as he turned back around, nailing him with the Pedigree for the 1...2...3!

Triple H pinned Randy Orton with the Pedigree in 0:11:21.
Rating: ***
(Triple H retained the UW World Title.)

Triple H retains and gains a measure of revenge against his nemesis!  But he wasn't close to finished there.  After the match, he went to the ring apron and pulled out his trusty sledgehammer, wielding it almost gleefully.  The fans all knew what was coming, but unfortunately for the challenger, he had no clue as he took a blast between the eyes!  Hunter repeated the shot and before nailing Orton with numerous shots to the back, and finally lifting Orton up onto his knees and hitting him square in the back of the head with the sledgehammer!  It was a sickening sight indeed, but if any wrestler deserved such a treatment, it was Randy Orton!  Triple H stood atop the turnbuckle with the World title and sledgehammer, posing triumphantly as the show closed...

Ha ha... what a gullible referee.  Have to love just how devious Helms is to move on.  Phantom low blow FTW!

Given the circumstances with Booker in recent months, it makes sense he's going to move on in this tournament.  But he took a lot of damage as well, and will be worse for wear for the semis.  I'm guessing he moves onto the finals though and his body gives out on him there.

Wow... Petey vs. Monty was a ridiculously long match for an opening round contest without a lot of fanfare.  A good match, but lengthy.  Brown moves on.

Like that Cena/JBL isn't over yet, and a great way to introduce Samoa Joe.  Now how long before Joe turns on JBL? :)

Conway and Dinsmore trying to get back into title contention, but their plan blows up in their face and MNM retains.  Good thing now though is you have a new feud for Limited Edition for awhile while MNM's title reign pans out.

Edge keeps finding ways to win, and Petey may be eaten by Brown before all is said and done.

Booker beats Helms narrowly, and Edge is ever the opportunist, capitalizing on Booker's injury and becoming the King.

And Triple H retains the World Title, and may have just committed a murder to boot.  I take it Orton's either fired or at least being written off for awhile.

Matt's Thoughts, Feedback, and Other Random Bullshit:

Good hype to start, to remind everyone of the card.

First Round Battle of the Kingdom Come Tournament, Helms pulls a trick out of the Eddie Guerrero playbook, by pretending to get hit with a low blow. Okay, I marked out for that.

Your god and mine John Bradshaw Layfield is backstage. You're right, it's a travesty, the fact he's not in every segment(or at least every other segment).

More Tournament Action, and a great focking match, as the Booker Man moves on. That's not going to go unpunished, as CHAVITO~! joins O'Haire in laying a whoopin on Booker. Here come Haas and Benjamin, as a tag team match of sorts is no doubt in the future.

Young Randall K. Orton says he's going to finish off Triple H. Damn, don't know who to cheer for in that one, but gotta stick with Orton. Sorry Huntor.

POUNCE~, Period! Two slightly average workers have an awesome match as the Alpha Male moves on. I predit that he wins the whole tournament but God only knows I've been wrong a lot recently.

The Rated-R Superstar wins. YES! Man, that Samoan sure looks like an average Joe, doesn't he :) And in fact, JBL just proves his greatness by bringing in one of my favorites into UW.

MNM win. No complaints here and really nothing to say, the right people went over.

Well there's goes my prediction for the tournament. Teddy Hart(another hero to all) partakes in debauchery, but Petey Williams comes in, with the referee looking at the wrong time. Okay, I'm changing my pick to Edge, just because I can.

Huntor, I mark for you, but you're not beating Orton, buddy.

Helms cost himself the match by his arrogance. Scissors Kick, Booker versus Edge in the finals, still sticking with Edge, especially with his condition.

Say what you will about Edge, but no one can take advantage of an opportunity like he can. And he wins, which proves that second time is the charm for me.

NO! orton falls to Triple H. Surprised at the short length, only eleven minutes for a World Title Match, but it served its purpose. And Huntor the Barbarian uses the sledgehammer of doom to add insult to injury(or rather the other way around). Poor Randall, alas we barely knew you.

Good show, looking forward to seeing where UW goes from here.
