[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 4/3/06

Snabbit888Posted on 03/24/08 at 02:16:24

Welcome to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and welcome to Monday Night Explosion! The card for Deadly Draw is taking shape, and we continue to push forward! Spring is in the air, and we are on the air! On tonight's show, a huge triangle match featuring Chris Benoit, Rob Van Dam, and Randy Orton! Also, AJ Styles meets Paul Burchill, Monty Brown takes on the undefeated enforcer Bobby Lashley, and in our main event, Brock Lesnar meets Lance Hoyt in a non-title match! All that, plus more names are announced for Deadly Draw! Let's get right to it!

Match #1
Chris Benoit vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Randy Orton
Randy Orton looked as though he had bit off more than he could chew when he challenged Chris Benoit and Rob Van Dam to wrestle in a triangle match. However, he did have a plan as he hired the services of RHYNO to watch his back and surely helped him in this contest. Regardless of Rhyno's presence at ringside, Benoit and RVD weren't phased, punishing Orton to try to make a point to him. The competitiveness of both individuals kicked in though and they were more than happy to go after each other as well. During the confusion of this match, RVD was dumped to the floor while Benoit and Orton were still duking it out in the ring. Referee Chad Patton couldn't watch everything going on and thus missed Rhyno nailing the Whole F'n Show with the Gore on the outside! One person who did see it though was Benoit, who started toward Rhyno. This left him wide open though as Orton planted him with the RKO and that was all she wrote.

Triangle Match:
Randy Orton defeated Chris Benoit and Rob Van Dam when R. Orton pinned Benoit with the RKO in 0:06:30.
Rating: *** 1/4

Orton left the ring with a smile of victory etched on his face, also saying that he was going to win Deadly Draw. We've also learned that as a result of what went down tonight, Rob Van Dam will meet Rhyno on Explosion.

DAFFNEY REACHES OUT TO CHRISTOPHER DANIELS
X champion Christopher Daniels was approached backstage by his former manager and current manager of CM Punk, Daffney. Daniels' first reaction was to tell her to get the hell away from him, but Daffney pleaded with the Fallen Angel to listen to him. Daffney said that she knew there was no reason why Daniels should trust her or CM Punk, but Punk really was trying to change his ways and his reaching out to Daniels was sincere. Daniels told Daffney, "Once a liar, always a liar," and that he's been fooled time and time again before and it wouldn't work this time. Daffney thought about saying something else, but instead just left dejected.

Match #2
Handicap Match
Abyss vs. The Blue World Order
Normally when you have a match that is 2-on-1, you'd think the clear advantage would go to the 2. That isn't the case though when the 2 is the Blue World order and the 1 is Abyss. Stevie Richards and The Blue Meanie spent most of this short match arguing over who should go after Abyss first. Abyss solved that for them by decimating both men in short order, officially pinning Richards with the Black Hole Slam. An expected victory, but impressive never the less. One has to wonder though, who is going to be able to get Abyss out of Deadly Draw if he wrestles even remotely close to this.

Handicap-Match:
Abyss defeated The bWo (The Blue Meanie and Stevie Richards) when Abyss pinned S. Richards with the Black Hole Slam in 0:02:34.
Rating: ** ½

HBK RETURNING AT DEADLY DRAW
The same promo that showed at Proving Ground played again, announcing the return of the Heartbreak Kid at Deadly Draw, this time adding that the legend would be in the Deadly Draw match. If this pay-per-view couldn't get any bigger...

Match #3
AJ Styles vs. Paul Burchill
Paul Burchill is trying to establish himself as a threat in the singles division, and he's been doing so to date. He had a chance to do that against AJ Styles. Both of these wrestlers will be in the Deadly Draw match which could be a huge boost to either of their careers. But first thing was first, and that was winning this match. Burchill is a little hard to read in the ring sometimes because obviously being from England, he has a strong European influence in the way he wrestles, making him hard to prepare for. The Phenomenal AJ Styles is also quite innovative and you never know where he's coming from next. However, Burchill's strength advantage helped him get the edge, scoring the victory with the C4.

Paul Burchill pinned AJ Styles with the C4 in 0:07:53.
Rating: *** ½

KAZARIAN/SMITH GET IN MNM'S HEAD
MNM were walking by backstage when they saw Frankie Kazarian and Harry Smith and decided it would be a great time to talk some smack. Kazarian and Smith were content on just ignoring in until Johnny Nitro made a comment about the less-than-stellar win-loss record that they have accrued. This set something off in Kazarian, who fired back about how MNM hasn't been able to come even close to beating the World's Greatest Tag Team and that at Deadly Draw, it would be no different. The always arrogant MNM were pissed and said that they will be the new tag team champions and they were definitely sure that they could beat Kazarian and Smith. They'll have that chance next week on Explosion.

Match #4
Kurt Angle vs. Elix Skipper
When wrestlers are taking on Kurt Angle, it is almost as if he has become like their Super Bowl. They seem to turn up the intensity a lot and give it all that they have. To Angle's credit, he is so good that he can take this brunt and more often than not, escape with the victory. The next man to give him that challenge was "Prime Time" Elix Skipper. Skipper is a highly underappreciated talent in GCW, and he is starting to make some rumblings backstage that he is looking to prove that point soon. An upset win over the only Triple Crown winner in GCW history would definitely do that. Skipper knew if he got into a wrestling match with Angle, it'd be over in a hurry. But he could outfly him, and he went for that right off by coming into the ring with a springboard dropkick. Skipper did exceptionally well for himself, but Angle was just too much for him, taking the win with the Ankle Lock.Kurt Angle made Elix Skipper submit to the Ankle Lock in 0:11:08.
Rating: *** 1/4

GREGORY HELMS HAS HIS AGENDA
For the first time since his return, we heard from Gregory Helms, who had been gone for several months. Michael Cole conducted the interview, asking Helms about what he was up to during his hiatus and why the new change of heart. After insulting Cole on being gnome-like, Helms said that he spent the past few months training and preparing himself for his return. He said that officially, "The Hurricane" is dead. "I am the most talented wrestler in this company by far, and I'm tired of being treated like a joke. I will be taken seriously, and I don't care who I have to hurt to make that happen."

Match #5
Monty Brown vs. Bobby Lashley (w/ Lamont)
Some people might think Monty Brown is crazy for taking on the type of matches that he has been, especially with a big title opportunity coming up at Deadly Draw, but it's not in his nature to duck a challenge, which is why he gladly took on JBL's enforcer Bobby Lashley on Explosion. Lashley never seems to go into matches with the intention of winning. His first priority is causing his opponent an intense amount of pain. Imagine what would happen in GCW if he was focused on winning and not just doing JBL's dirty work. Either way, if there's any man that can match power with Lashley, it's the Alpha Male, and though this match wasn't pretty, it was a great slugfest. The complexion of the match would change dramatically when JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD would come to the ring and discreetly slide a steel chair into the ring while Lamont had the attention of referee Mike Chioda. Brown was going for the Pounce, but Lashley countered with a huge overhead belly-to-belly suplex right onto the chair!

Bobby Lashley pinned Monty Brown after an overhead belly-to-belly suplex in 0:12:59.
Rating: ** ¾

JBL wasn't done though, having Lashley hold the Alpha Male up while he smashed him in the face with the Intercontinental Title. Brown was knocked out cold as JBL shoved the IC Title in his face, telling him that would be the closest he'd ever get to being the champion again.

EDGE HAS MATT HARDY ARRESTED
Before our main event, "The Rated R Superstar" Edge and his Brothel came out to the ring, flanked by 6 armed police officers. Edge immediately grabbed the microphone and said that what happened last week with Matt Hardy was completely unacceptable as he isn't just an injured wrestler or a suspended wrestler, but someone who isn't even a member of this company. "In case some of you idiots forgot, I beat Matt Hardy last year in a Loser-Leaves-GCW for good match. I won, he lost. What that means is Matt Hardy was FIRED and his ugly face isn't welcome here anymore. Yet last week, who comes running after me and my beautiful Brothel with a steel chair to protect his girlfriend? Matt Hardy." Edge went on to say that he no longer feels safe in GCW rings and he insists that he have police officers with him at all time (also mentioning on GCW's dime to avoid a lawsuit), and that if Matt Hardy even shows his face at a GCW event, he will be arrested on the spot. Edge wouldn't quite leave yet though as he took the next couple of minutes to insult poor Maria, who is pulled into the middle of all of this against her will. Edge went too far apparently by calling her a whore, which brought out MATT HARDY from the crowd! Hardy was able to sneak into the ring and get a couple of good shots on Edge before the police officers intervened and put the cuffs on him, hauling him away. Hardy was kicking and screaming the whole way, yelling that this wasn't over.

Match #6
MAIN EVENT
Non-Title Match
Brock Lesnar (World Heavyweight champion) vs. Lance Hoyt (w/ Kid Kash)
Though the title was not on the line, this was still a big opportunity for Lance Hoyt against Brock Lesnar, because if you can pin the World Heavyweight champion under any circumstances, that has to propel you right up to the top of the contenders list. Unfortunately for Hoyt, pinning Brock Lesnar is far easier said than done. Hoyt was game though, matching Lesnar punch for punch and asserting his will early on. Hoyt just doesn't have the experience level to take out a Lesnar at this point though, and Hoyt got too aggressive. Lesnar capitalized and one F-5 later, this match was over.

Brock Lesnar pinned Lance Hoyt with the F-5 in 0:04:58.
Rating: **

Kid Kash jumped in the ring immediately after the match and jumped on Lesnar's back, but the Monster From Minnesota was easily able to dump Kash over his head and then follow up with a belly-to-belly suplex. Lesnar was enjoying himself as he beat the crap out of Kash and Hoyt, but he became careless and didn't see BOOKER T come out of nowhere and blast him in the back with a steel chair! Booker had a distant look in his eye as he repeatedly brought the chair down on the fallen Lesnar, targeting his back and ribs primarily. Booker even tired Lesnar up in the ropes and continued the assault on his ribs, repeatedly driving the edge of that chair into his side. The GCW Official Brigade was finally able to break this heinous attack up, but the damage was done for sure. Lesnar could barely make it to the back on his own and was having a lot of trouble getting oxygen into his lungs. Many thought Booker had no chance of winning the World Title in 3 weeks, but his chances just improved dramatically.

You have a unique way of setting out your backstage segments and interviews. Never seen it done that way before - I think it's pretty cool. Like your talent roster as well.
meetzorakPosted on 03/24/08 at 22:31:49

like always a great show, i think you roster is kind of overflowing with talent though, it's like every single wwe champion in the last 7 years is on it, and i know its not your fault because you might not follow it but it seems like there is nearly no indy talent in sight, but as far as writing goes you make everything work to perfection, I really hope you find two spots in the draw for the BWO, the deadly draw is my favorite show of the year, and even though its far away id like to see what you do with the Beniot situation when thay time comes, keep up the good work and bring in Chris Hero.  ;)
Snabbit888Posted on 03/25/08 at 02:11:04

I actually did have Chris Hero for awhile but I didn't really know how to use him and didn't want him to just job, so I cut him.  I'll bring him back eventually, but right now I just don't see it.

And I don't have a ton of indy talent because well, my circuit is ran like a major promotion.  And in all fairness, I started this circuit back in 2004, so guys like CM Punk weren't WWE guys when I began all of this. :)
