WWE, from 1985 onwards

markod1967Posted on 02/11/08 at 14:33:30

Hey guys, I've been a long time reader of the forums and especially like keeping up to date with the circuits you guys run.

I'm a particular fan of Snabbit's GCW and wicked rex's MWWA.

Anyway, I've been running a WWE circuit for well over a year IRL, and am into my fifth year in TNM, running weekly shows & monthly PPVs.

The way I've worked it is that when a guy makes his debut IRL on a PPV then they're eligible to join my circuit and I use their correct ages and push them accordingly.  So for example in 1985, Barry Windham is only 25 years old while Ivan Koloff & Harley Race are 43.

The rules I use are that I book everything, but do so according to the heat TNM allocates to everyone.  I won't be having anyone with a 2 or 3 heat rating as one of my champs!  I use the card multiplier set at "5" and amend injuries to reflect this.  I also accept it when people decide to walk out, and never use e-mail mode.

Initially the * rating per match was very poor so hopefully you don't let this affect your primary judgement.  I'll post it regularly, after all I've run a grand total of 320 cards so far so I have a lot to post, although I won't overload you by posting loads at a time.

Some other small rules, just to keep it realistic.  When a guy reaches 40 they'll only wrestle a maximum of 9 PPVs a year until they reach 44, at which point they'll only wrestle a maximum of 4.  Hey, you gotta let the young pups through some time!!   ;D

Well, hopefully you all enjoy it.  I'd appreciate comments, no matter how nice or critical they are.

Monday Night Raw, 1 April 1985

Fireworks go off as Vince McMahon comes to the ring to start off Raw!

Vince came to the ring and welcomed everyone to the arena to witness the birth of World Wrestling Entertainment!  He
said that he is thrilled to have started an organisation which boasts talent such as Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant, "Nature
Boy" Ric Flair, Bob Orton, Roddy Piper & Dusty Rhodes to name but a few.

He said that tonight the qualification matches for the title tournament at WWE's first pay-per-view - Crowning Glory on 28
April - will begin tonight.  8 superstars will qualify for the tournament and the 2 matches tonight will be:

"Superstar" Billy Graham vs  "The Dragon" Ricky Steamboat, and
"Cowboy" Bob Orton vs Andre The Giant!

The crowd cheered loudly at the mention of Andre's name.

And with that, McMahon told the audience to strap in and get ready for the ride of their lives!

The camera cut to a door backstage and the crowd went wild as Hulk Hogan came through the door, arriving at the arena.

Big John Studd pinned David Sammartino with the Backbreaker in 0:06:09.
Rating: -*

Backstage, Mean Gene Okerlund interviewed Hulk Hogan.  Hogan said that the likes of Big John Studd just
showed how hard a task it would be to win the WWE title, but he promised all of the Hulkamaniacs out there that he would
be doing his damndest to do just that.  He said that he would go through anyone to get the title, but went out of his way to
wish his good friend Andre The Giant all of the luck in the world later on against Bob Orton.

As the camera cut away from the Hulkster it went back to the entrance door and Andre The Giant was seen arriving in
the arena!

Rock'n'Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) and The Legion of Doom (Hawk and Animal) defeated The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton) and
The Russians (Nikita Koloff and Ivan Koloff) when R. Gibson pinned Koloff
after an inside cradle in 0:11:48.
Rating: *

Backstage, The Four Horsemen are seen relaxing in their locker room.  Ric Flair, Barry Windham, Ole Anderson
and Arn Anderson are laughing and joking when their door opens and a road agent walks in.  He informs Flair &
Windham that their qualifying matches are next week.

They demand to know who they're facing and the agent firstly says that Barry Windham will face Wahoo McDaniel!
"McDaniel??" Windham exclaims, "I thought he was in a home somewhere!"  The other Horsemen laugh before the
agent pipes in again.

"Naitch, you'll be facing Tito Santana."  Flair's face becomes more serious before Ole Anderson pipes up.  "You're the
best in the world Ric, you'll be fine."  Flair nods his head in agreement but looks slightly worried.  Arn Anderson breaks
the tension, "Wahoo McDaniel eh?  Watch he doesn't hit you with his zimmer frame Barry."

WWE reporter Tom Martin is backstage with "Superstar" Billy Graham.  The crowd booed when Graham came on to the
screen and he smiled at the sound of this.  He said that tonight he would show Ricky Steamboat that he is in a league
above him and how it's an insult that the WWE committee would even ask him to face such a non-entity in a qualifying
match.  He said that he saw himself as a gift from God, while Steamboat reminded him of "the kind of people in that
arena tonight - the kind that I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire!"

The camera cut to another interview - Mean Gene Okerlund with none other than Andre The Giant!  Andre said that
he's putting everyone in WWE on notice that he's fit, determined and motivated to become the WWE Champ.  He said
that Bob Orton was just unlucky that he was first in line for annihalation but he certainly wouldn't be the last.  The crowd
cheered at Andre's statement of intent.  Mean Gene informed the beheamoth that Hulk Hogan has wished him luck
earlier on, and asked if he had a message for "The Hulkster."  Andre certainly did.  "I like him.  I know him well and he's
my friend.  I would like nothing more if we were to face each other in the final, but at the end of the day he's just another
roadblock on my path to the WWE title and he'll have to be treated as such if push comes to shove."

[WWE Title Tournament Qualifying Match]:
Ricky Steamboat pinned Billy Graham with the Flying Cross Body Press in 0:12:01
.
Rating: *** 1/4

Ricky Steamboat celebrated in the ring as Billy Graham rolled groggily to the outside, seemingly in shock at what had
just transpired.

The camera cut backstage to Nikolai Volkoff & The Russians, Ivan Koloff & Nikita Koloff.  They were talking Russian, but
Volkoff seemed to be admonishing Nikita for losing the fall in the eight man tag match earlier in the night.  Just then they
heard a banging noise and turned round to see Kamala in the room, knocking on the walls.  He ran about, slapping his
belly as Kim Chee chased him trying to get him under control.  The three men were blatantly perturbed and Volkoff looked
worried as commentator Gorilla Monsoon informed the viewers that Kamala & Volkoff will clash tonight!

Buddy Landell made Gerald Brisco submit to the Figure Four Leglock in 0:07:07.
Rating: **

King Kong Bundy pinned Abdullah the Butcher with the Avalanche in 0:06:57.
Rating: -* 1/4

Backstage, Ole Anderson & Arn Anderson were shown knocking on Vince McMahon's office door.  He CEO of
the company shouted at them to come in and they duly did so to find the bespectacled McMahon behind his desk.  Arn
Anderson piped up first, he said that Vince would be aware the the two of them have withdrawn from the title tournament
"which everyone knows Ric is gonna win anyway" to focus on tag team gold.  They wanted to know what Vince's plans
were for the tag team division?

McMahon said that he was impressed with the eight man tag earlier in the night and is giving a couple of things due
consideration but assured them they would be among the first to know.

Nikolai Volkoff defeated Kamala by countout in 0:03:00.
Rating: -** 1/4

This was a strange match, Volkoff was clearly very hesitant around the Ugandan and Kamala dominated him from start
to finish before splashing him and just leaving the ring, running around randomly while the official counted him out.  At the
decision Kamala re-entered the ring but Volkoff slid under the bottom rope and escaped up the ramp.

Roddy Piper came to the ring and welcomed the fans to Piper's Pit!  He said he would interview as many stars as he
could, and get to the bottom of any brewing stories in WWE.  He said his first guest was Jimmy Valiant!

Valiant came to the ring and Piper asked a couple of harmless questions - how he was feeling, how confident was he in
respect to the tournament etc?  Valiant said that just like anyone else he was beside himself with excitement with the
thought of becoming the first WWE Champ and said that he would be hard to beat.

Piper broke into a subtle smile before asking Valiant if he knew who his qualification match would be against yet?
Valiant said that he didn't know yet before Piper cracked him over the head with the microphone.  "It's against me, you
mutt!!"

Valiant had crumpled to his knees and Piper stomped on him before whipping him into the ropes and going for a back
bodydrop.  Valiant stopped though and nailed Piper with a kick.  The Scotsman rolled out of the ring and shouted back at
Valiant that his dream will end in a couple of weeks, while Valiant invited him back into the ring for a match right there and
then.  Piper took a couple of steps forward to the excitement of the crowd, before backing off and turning round and
walking to the curtain to a barrage of boos.

Backstage, Tom Martin interviewed Bob Orton.  Orton said that he watched Andre's interview earlier in the night and
said that while most people would get twitchy at a Giant being after them Orton said he was glad to hear Andre's words.
He said that Andre was so highly strung he could see him making a mistake and "you don't do that with me, boy.  As soon
as your guard is down then you're going to be on your back, and I'll be going to Crowning Glory while you sit on your big
ass at home."

Bob Orton defeated Andre the Giant by disqualification in 0:09:51.
Rating: DUD
[Hulk Hogan interfered against Bob Orton.]
[Big John Studd interfered against Andre the Giant.]

This match was a crying shame for Andre The Giant.  He seemed to be in control, despite an excellent display by Bob
Orton before Big John Studd came to the ring and started mouthing off at him.  With Andre distracted, Orton took
advantage for a while before going to get a chair from the outside.  As the referee went to the outside to try to get the
chair, Studd entered the ring and nailed Andre with brass knuckles!

As Andre collapsed to the floor, Hulk Hogan ran to the ring and nailed Studd with punches before Orton slipped into the
ring and blindsided The Hulkster.  Hogan soon got the upper hand though and body slammed Orton but as he did so
the referee called for a disqualification for outside interference and as he'd only seen Hogan put his hands on Orton he
awarded the decision to the "Cowboy."

Orton celebrated as Hogan helped Andre to his feet.  Andre looked dazed and confused and thoroughly heartbroken
at his opportunity slipping through his grasp so early.

Card rating: DUD

Match observations:

Don't miss Monday Night Raw next week!!  We will have another 2 incredible qualifying matches as the leader of the
Horsemen Ric Flair takes on Tito Santana and it will be a battle of youth versus experience as Barry Windham takes on
Wahoo McDaniel.

Also, how will Andre The Giant react to being out of the running already?  Next week we'll also see superstars like
Dusty Rhodes, Paul Orndorff & Harley Race for the first time!

Be there!

Monday Night Raw, 8 April 1985

The crowd go wild as "Real American" hits and Hulk Hogan makes his way to the ring!

The Hulkster got on the mic and got straight to the point.  "No messing about tonight guys.  I'm here for a reason.
Andre, come out here brother.  I've got something to say, face to face, man to man."

Andre The Giant's music hit and he ambled to the ring, standing next to Hogan, their eyes never leaving each other.
Hogan was first to speak.  "Brother, I'm sorry.  You're my friend and you were in trouble, but I realise that it was my
decision to come out to try to help you which ultimately cost you the match, and I can't turn back the clock."

Andre went to speak, but stopped as Hogan continued.

"What I CAN do though man, is promise you this.  I promise you, I promise all of your fans, and I promise all of the
Hulkamaniacs here tonight that I WILL win the WWE Title at Crowning Glory.  And my first title shot brother, that'll be
yours."

A smile broke out on Andre's face.  "Apology accepted, it should be fun."  Just then though Big John Studd's music hit
and he appeared on the ramp.

Studd said that the reason he came to the ring last week was because he was sick of the hype surrounding Andre.
Studd said that the only thing Andre has over him is height.  In terms of ability, determination and being a man Andre falls
short to him in every department!  This drew very loud boos and Andre looked as if he was going to after Studd before
Vince McMahon appeared on the Titantron.  He said that there seemed to be some tension among some of the guys
already and he always gives the fans what they want which tonight will be a main event of:

Hulk Hogan & Andre The Giant against the team of Big John Studd & Cowboy Bob Orton!!

The crowd cheered as Hogan & Andre mouthed off towards Studd who seemed happy with the announcement.

Dusty Rhodes pinned Iron Sheik with the Bionic Elbowdrop in 0:06:06.
Rating: -**

Backstage, The Four Horsemen were seen arriving.  They were joking and relaxed and looked confident, even though
Barry Windham & Ric Flair have their qualifying matches tonight - against Wahoo McDaniel & Tito Santana
respectively.

The camera then cut to the locker room, where Wahoo McDaniel was seen tying up his wrestling boots and looking
prepared for his match.

King Kong Bundy was shown walking backstage when a member of the ring crew accidentally brushed against him in
a corridor.  Bundy grabbed the young man and pinned him up against the wall, demanding an apology.  The ring crew
member apologised immediately, begging not be hurt.  Bundy slapped him high on the head and asked for a "sincere"
apology.  Just then Terry Taylor grabbed Bundy from behind.  He told Bundy to lay off the kid but Bundy pushed him
backwards.  Taylor got right in Bundy's face but Bundy said he'd see him in the ring.  Now.  As he stormed off Taylor
looked concerned.

McMahon who was due to make an announcement of what would be happening regarding the WWE Tag Team Titles.
Present were The Legion of Doom, the Rock 'n' Roll Express, The Midnight Express accompanied by Jim Cornette, The
Andersons & The Russians accompanied by Nikolai Volkoff.  We then went to advertisments.

On return from the commercials Vince was in the room.  He announced that next week there would be a four corners
match and The Russians would be excluded seeing as they lost the fall last week.  Nikolai Volkoff stood up and shouted
in broken English that this was discrimination and he would not stand for it.  Vince said that was his decision and he's
sure they'd get a chance in the near future.  The Russians stormed out of the room.

After the decision Ole Anderson & Arn Anderson stormed to the ring as Wahoo celebrated but Wahoo managed to

Express's music hit and they made their way to the ring for their match with The Andersons!

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson) defeated
Rock'n'Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) when O. Anderson pinned
R. Morton after an elbowdrop in 0:09:21.

This was robbery.  A close match, but as Arn Anderson & Robert Gibson brawled outside and the referee was distracted

always, the Horsemen were working in tandem well.

Backstage, Mean Gene Okerlund interviewed Bob Orton.  Orton said he's looking forward to the tag match tonight and
revealed he has employed the services of Bobby Heenan to manage him!  He said he beat Andre The Giant last week
and is looking forward to taking either him or Hogan out again this week when he teams with Big John Studd!

Ricky Steamboat pinned Nikolai Volkoff after a reverse cradle in 0:03:35.

Volkoff completely lost it after this match.  He paced about the ring frantically, saying he couldn't concentrate with all
of the discrimination in WWE.  He kept holding his head in dismay and kicking the ropes before the officials came out
to restrain him and drag him kicking and screaming to the back.

Harley Race's music hit and he came to the ring and grabbed the mic.  He said that he found out today who his
qualifying match would be against.  The truth is, that he hasn't got one but he's not deemed important enough to be in
the title tournament!

He said that he's fed up of the likes of Hulk Hogan & Andre The Giant stealing all the limelight and he said that everyone
in WWE better watch out because he's going to get himself noticed by hook or by crook!

Just then, Buddy Landell's music hit.  The crowd chuckled as Landell came out, imitating Ric Flair to perfection.  He
told Race to calm down and hit the town with him tonight to wine and dine the ladies.  Race told Landell to come to the
ring and ask him.

Landell came to the ring but was immediately attacked by Race and nailed with a devastating Piledriver.  "YOU WILL
GIVE ME RESPECT" Race bellowed into the mic before storming off.

Match observations:

We now have 4 qualifiers for the title tournament at Crowning Glory and next week we'll have 2 more as Roddy Piper
takes on Jimmy Valiant and Mr Wonderful Paul Orndorff clashes with Brutus Beefcake.

We'll also see new tag team champions crowned next week and we'll gauge the Horsemen's reaction to the good news
that Ric Flair is going to Crowning Glory and the somewhat less welcome news that Wahoo McDaniel upset Barry
Windham.

Hulk Hogan will be told next week who he's going to face in his qualifying match.

Don't miss it!

Andre walks through the door before he is nailed from behind by Big John Studd.  Studd knocks Andre to the floor
and clambers on top of him, nailing him with punches.  Just then Studd gets pulled to his feet by Dusty Rhodes, who
hits him with a couple of chops.  Studd pushes Rhodes backwards and walks off, content with his job.  Rhodes helps
Andre to his feet and explains that next week he'll face Big John in the qualifying match.  Andre grimaces as the rubs the
back of his neck, before telling Dusty to make sure he sends Studd out of the tournament next week.

The camera cuts backstage, to the Horsemen's dressing room.  Barry Windham is pacing furiously around while Ric
Flair stands in front of The Minnesota Wrecking Crew - Arn & Ole Anderson.

Flair tells them that tonight is their big chance to become tag team champions and the goal is for the Horsemen to own
every bit of gold that McMahon puts on the line in the WWE.

He says that tonight will be the night of their lives, and to do it for him.  He turns to Windham, who is fizzing with rage.
"What's up Barry?"

"What's up Ric?  That old has-been Wahoo McDaniel, that's what!  One lucky move to get a fluke win and it's all I've heard
about all week.  It's all I've THOUGHT about all week."

"Calm down, calm down."

"Calm down??  Sorry Ric, this is gonna eat away at me.  I need to handle this, and I need to do it tonight!"

Hulk Hogan is shown arriving in the arena as the crowd cheer.  He takes a couple of steps before meeting Andre The
Giant.  Andre asked him where he'd been and filled him in on Studd's attack earlier in the night.  Hogan apologised for
not being there and said that from now on he has Andre's back.  "No need, you had my back against Orton, remember?"
was the Giant's retort.  Andre said he'd found out that Hogan would meet Ivan Koloff tonight.  Hogan asked Andre if he'd
heard who Hogan's qualifier would be against yet, but Andre simply shook his head and walked away.

expense, and the mockery of Barry Windham stops tonight!  He demanded Wahoo McDaniel come to the ring and tell
everyone that last week was a fluke!

Wahoo's music hits and he comes to the ring with a mic of his own.  Fearlessly, he gets right in Barry Windham's face
and tells him - last week was no fluke and Windham better get his head out of his ass if he thinks it was.

Windham challenged McDaniel to a fight and Wahoo accepted, only for Windham to say, "Next week, next week.  I'm
not prepared," as the crowd booed his apparent cowardice.

[WWE Title Tournament - Qualifier]:
Roddy Piper made Jimmy Valiant submit to the Sleeper in 0:13:39.
Rating: 1/4*

Valiant put up a strong showing against Piper, but Hot Rod was able to pull through.

Backstage, Bobby Heenan and Bob Orton were shown watching Piper celebrate.  Heenan put his arm round Orton and
told him to forget last week.  He says that although Hogan pinned him it was in a tag match and one on one no-one can
touch him.

Orton nodded his head in agreement as Heenan told him that 6 of 8 have qualified already and that The Cowboy has as
good a chance as any to become WWE Champ.

Without warning or music, Nikolai Volkoff stormed to the ring.  He said that the conspiracy against him and his fellow
Russians continues tonight by taking Ivan Koloff away from his partner to face Hulk Hogan.  He said he's sick of being
disrespected and tonight he's going to take it out on a man who disrespected him a couple of weeks ago - Kamala!!
He demanded Kamala come out to face him and the Ugandan's music hit - the match was on!!

Backstage, Tom Martin interviewed Ricky Steamboat.  "The Dragon" said that he felt good and fit, and was looking
forward to Crowning Glory.  He said that he expected to do well and bring home the gold.  Just then, "Superstar" Billy
Graham appeared and said that Steamboat can count himself lucky to be at Crowning Glory.  He then shook
Steamboat's hand and wished him luck, but as Steamboat went to walk away Graham pulled him back and said, "And
never forget, watch your back....if you know what I mean."

Harley Race pinned Buddy Landell with the Piledriver in 0:02:05.

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson) defeated

Rock'n'Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) when Anderson pinned
R. Gibson after a reverse neckbreaker in 0:11:51.
Rating: * 1/2
(The Minnesota Wrecking Crew won the WWE Tag Team Titles.)

Rather predictably, this match was a bit of a free-for-all.  The Legion of Doom and Midnight Express had battled to the
outside.  Gibson was inside the ring and grabbed Ole Anderson, who was outside.  Anderson dropped to the floor,
clotheslining Gibson across the top rope and Arn Anderson nailed him with a neckbreaker for the pinfall despite the
efforts of Ricky Morton to try to break the pin in time.

The Legion of Doom stormed back into the ring afterwards, clearly frustrated, but The Minnesota Wrecking Crew were
already half way up the ramp and celebrating.

Backstage, they walked through the doors to Ric Flair popping a champagne cork and even Barry Windham looking
happier.  "The first of many, guys!" The Nature Box exclaimed as they hopped into a limo to take them off to party!

Hulk Hogan pinned Ivan Koloff with the Big Leg Drop in 0:07:09.
Rating: 1/4*

As Hogan celebrated in the ring after the match, King Kong Bundy's music hit!!  Hogan turned to the ramp and sure
enough Bundy emerged through the curtain.

Bundy said that Hogan would have to go through him to get to Crowning Glory and warned him that he'd beat Hogan to a
pulp.  Hogan said that Bundy would have to overcome Hulkamania and he didn't believe he was ready to do that.

Bundy came to the ring and got right in Hogan's face, the two men eyeing each other before Bundy threw the first punch.
Hogan came roaring back and his punches rocked Bundy into the corner.  Hogan tried to whip him into the turnbuckle but
Bundy reversed and followed up with a huge Avalanche, sending the Hulkster sprawling to the canvas in agony as Raw
went off the air!!

Landell had his hair swept by just like Ric Flair and was holding a hairbrush up to his mouth as he looked into the mirror.

Landell stopped in his tracks and slowly turned round.  The camera panned out to reveal The Four Horsemen!  Barry
Windham & WWE Tag Champs The Minnesota Wrecking Crew grabbed Landell and pinned him up against the mirror.
Ole Anderson asked him if he was trying to be funny, and Landell could only stutter.  They held him back and Ric Flair
got right in his face before unleashing three stinging chops to his chest.  He stepped back and addressed Landell.

"I'll see you out at the ring."

Vince McMahon came to the ring as the crew set up a table with a hat.  McMahon explained that inside the hat were 8
names and he would draw them out one by one.  The first four names would be the top half of the title tournament bracket,
and the last four the bottom four.

"The first name out, ladies and gentlemen......well.....none other than Wahoo McDaniel!!  And in the quarter finals Wahoo
will face......"Cowboy" Bob Orton!!  A Cowboy against an Indian - who'd have thought it!!"

"Now then, the next match, "Nature Boy" Ric Flair!!  And he will face......"Dusty Rhodes!!"

"So, the winner of those two matches will meet in the semi finals.  In essence, one of those men will be in the tournament
finals.  now, for the bottom half of the draw."

"Roddy Piper!!  Who will Hot Rod face I wonder??  None other than "The Dragon" himself - Ricky Steamboat.  Should be
a good 'un"

"And finally, "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff will face Hulk Hogan!!"

"Ladies & gentlemen, we'll see you at Crowning Glory!!"

Card rating: 1/2*

Crowning Glory, 28 April 1985

WELCOME TO CROWNING GLORY!!!

Dusty Rhodes limped to the ring with tears in his eyes.  He said that he wanted the WWE Title so much, he felt he was
ready despite having Ric Flair to face in the quarter finals.  He said that he felt a twinge in his knee against Big John
Studd and then as he trained this week his knee went and he faces a number of months on the sidelines.  He said that it
was his sad duty to inform everyone that he would not be able to compete tonight, or for the forseeable future.  He went on
to say that he was told by Vince McMahon to draw a name of a "lucky loser" earlier in the night and was happy that he
drew the name of Jimmy Valiant!!  A "Valiant" chant went up as 'The American Dream' wished Jimmy luck against Flair
and for the tournament, and said to the fans he'd be back as soon as he could.

The fans warmly applauded as Rhodes' music played.

[WWE Title Tournament - Quarter Finals]:

Bob Orton pinned Wahoo McDaniel with the Superplex in 0:03:08.
Rating: **
[Barry Windham interfered against Wahoo McDaniel.]

A comfortable start for Bob Orton.  His job was made a hell of a lot easier by the fact that Wahoo was attacked on his
way to the ring by the wretched Barry Windham, knocking the wind out of him and making him easy pickings for "The
Cowboy."

[WWE Title Tournament - Quarter Finals]:

Ric Flair and Jimmy Valiant battled to a draw in 0:30:00.
Rating: ** 1/4

Talk about grabbing an opportunity!  Jimmy Valiant really made a name for himself here by pushing The Nature Boy
all the way and taking him to a time limit draw.  The fans have been solidly behind Valiant and this was further evidence of
why.  Afterwards, Flair was incandescent with rage, unable to believe that he was out of the tournament.  Incredibly,
"Cowboy" Bob Orton has made it to the final after a solitary relatively easy three minute match!

[WWE Title Tournament - Quarter Finals]:

Roddy Piper defeated Ricky Steamboat when Ricky Steamboat passed out in the
Sleeper in 0:16:07.
Roddy Piper injured his right knee. He will be out for approximately 4 cards.
Rating: ***

My, my.  This was a real battle.  Steamboat didn't quit but passed out in the sleeper.  Piper tweaked his knee and
is doubtful for the match against Hogan or Orndorff.

[WWE Title Tournament - Quarter Finals]:

Hulk Hogan pinned Paul Orndorff with the Big Leg Drop in 0:19:52.
Rating: *** 1/2

Orndorff matched Hogan all of the way but The Hulkster pulled out a victory in the end.

The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton) defeated
Rock'n'Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) when Condrey pinned
R. Gibson after a schoolboy cradle in 0:14:21.
Rating: **

The Rock 'n' Roll Express can feel slightly hard done to.  They seemed to have the Midnights beaten twice but Jim
Cornette masterfully distracted the ref.  When Gibson grabbed Cornette and seemed ready to level him, Condrey struck
with a schoolboy and The Midnight Express were the victors.

Nikolai Volkoff pinned Kamala after a low blow in 0:06:00.
Rating: -***

Volkoff finally got a victory with a cheap low blow against the Ugandan Giant.

Barry Windham pinned Terry Taylor with the Superplex in 0:16:46.
Rating: ** 1/4

Taylor and Windham had a very competitive bout, but the Horseman dug in for an important victory.

[WWE Title Tournament - Semi Finals]:

Hulk Hogan pinned Roddy Piper after a headsmash into the turnbuckle in 0:19:34.
Rating: ** 1/4

Credit where it's due to both of these amazing superstars.  Piper was nursing a damaged knee, while Hogan went
over on his ankle early in the fight.  Despite that, they pulled off a very entertaining match.  Both men were busted open;
Piper after a strong Hogan headbutt and Hogan after Piper pulled off the protective turnbuckle padding and rammed his
head into it.  That was to be Piper's undoing though.  Hogan barely kicked out and when Piper went for it a second time
Hogan blocked and reversed it, knocking Piper out and covering him for the 3 count.

As Hogan struggled to his feet after the bell, Bob Orton ran to the ring and nailed him with a hard chair shot to the head.
Orton was in the final after 3 minutes of action - Hogan has went almost 40 minutes in 2 absolute wars and is clearly
struggling after Orton's attack.

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson) defeated
The Legion of Doom (Hawk and Animal) when O. Anderson pinned Animal after
a fisherman suplex in 0:17:08.
Rating: *
(The Minnesota Wrecking Crew retained the WWE Tag Team Titles.)

Credit to the Minnesota Wrecking Crew.  A lot of experts fancied The Legion of Doom but the wily Andersons stole a
victory.  Arn Anderson was up on Animal's shoulder but had tagged Ole seconds before being hit with the Doomsday
Device!  Animal went for the pin but Ole broke it up and hooked a fishermans suplex for the victory.

King Kong Bundy pinned Brutus Beefcake with the Avalanche in 0:07:40.
Rating: ** 1/4

Beefcake was a late substitute for Jimmy Valiant but was no match for the monstrous Bundy.

[Battle of the Giants]:

Andre the Giant pinned Big John Studd with the Elbowdrop in 0:06:57.
Rating: -***

The match between the two Giants was never going to go long, and Andre the Giant polished off Big John Studd after
a devastating driven Elbowdrop.

[WWE Title Tournament - Finals]

Bob Orton pinned Hulk Hogan with the Superplex in 0:11:06.
Rating: *
[Bobby Heenan interfered against Hulk Hogan.]
(Bob Orton won the WWE Heavyweight Title.)

Unbelievable!  Bob Orton is the new WWE Heavyweight Champion.  Hogan was favouring his ankle throughout the
match as Orton dominated, taking advantage of his freshness in comparison to the Hulkster's.  He nailed the
Superplex but Hogan kicked out and began hulking up.  A bit boot and Big Legdrop later and it seemed like Hogan's title
but Bobby Heenan pulled the referee out of the ring before he slapped the canvas for the 3rd time.  Hogan slid out of
the ring and chased Heenan around.  "The Brain" slid into the ring and ran by Orton.  As Hogan ran by him, Orton
clotheslined him and nailed him with a 2nd Superplex for the victory.

You could say Orton got lucky with the draw, or that Heenan cost Hogan dear but one fact is undeniable......

Bob Orton is the WWE Champ!

Card rating: 3/4*

Match observations:

Don't miss Raw tomorrow night guys!  We'll have all of the reaction to Bob Orton's title victory.  Just how will the likes of
Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair & Jimmy Valiant react?

It doesn't look good for either Dusty Rhodes or Roddy Piper, both of whom could be out for quite some time.  It could be
an opportunity for someone else to step up to the plate though.

And what of Andre the Giant?  He was promised a title shot if Hogan won the gold, but what now that Bob Orton has the
title?  Could there be yet another conflict of interest between good friends Andre & The Hulkster?
wicked_rexPosted on 02/12/08 at 03:10:16

Very interesting outlook. Nice card. Should be interesting to see how Orton does as WWE Champion.

And, I'm glad you enjoy the MWWA (self-promotion) LOL!

Monday Night Raw, 29 April 1985

Raw starts with new champion Bob Orton, along with Bobby Heenan coming to the ring!!

Orton takes in the boos of the crowd before standing on the middle rope and slowly raising the championship over
his head as Bobby "The Brain Heenan" claps in the background.  Heenan takes a mic and speaks, slowly and clearly.

"Ladies and gentlemen.  Show your appreciation for the first ever WWE Heavyweight Champion.  Bob Orton!!"

The crowd boo as Orton takes the mic, joking with Heenan.

Orton says that he's heard the whispers about how he's not a deserving champion.  He's heard the whispers about he
got lucky.  He's heard the whispers about he won't have the belt for long.  But he urged everyone to forget the whispers -
put them to one side and focus on the fact that 16 men had the opportunity to be WWE Champ, but he was the only one
left standing!

He said that he beat Andre The Giant, that he beat Wahoo McDaniel.  And yes, he beat Hulk Hogan 1-2-3 right in the
middle of the ring.

He said that at Judgement Day, on 26 May, he'll step into the ring with ANYONE and he'll leave the ring still with the gold.

He said that this was something the fans didn't have to like, but it was definitely something they had to get used to
because it wasn't going to change any time soon!

The Legion of Doom (Hawk and Animal) defeated
The Russians (Ivan Koloff and Nikita Koloff) when Hawk pinned I. Koloff
with the Flying Clothesline in 0:07:27.
Rating: * 1/4

Backstage, Hulk Hogan was shown knocking on Vince McMahon's door.  McMahon shouted to come in and Hogan
entered to be met with Andre The Giant!  Both men gave each other uneasy looks as McMahon began to talk.

He explained that one of those 2 men would be the number one contender for Orton's title at Judgment Day and it was
up to them to put their cases across to him.

Andre started, he said that he didn't even get a chance to truly enter the tournament.  He pointed out that due to Hogan's
interference he got disqualified in his qualifier against Orton and feels he should get his chance.

Hogan interrupted, telling Andre that the Orton/Andre qualifier is water under the bridge and he should stop bitching
about it!  This led Andre to get right into Hogan's face, to a VERY mixed crowd reaction.

Hogan stared him down before McMahon told them to calm it.

Hogan told McMahon that Orton had the advantage last night - he had 3 minutes of action before the finals and Hogan
had 40.  Even then it took Bobby Heenan's interference to swing the advantage Orton's way.

McMahon mulled and then said, "I'm gonna give this one to you, Andre."

Hogan exploded with rage.  "What??  Are you not listening to me at all.  That title shot is mine!"

Andre smirked as he walked out of the room.  Hogan pulled McMahon off his chair and pinned him against the wall.
"I'm going to destroy the Iron Sheik tonight Vince.  And I'm going to go through every superstar one by one until I get that
title shot.  And no matter what the circumstances, I'm going to get it for all of the Hulkamaniacs out there."

The camera cut to backstage where "Mean" Gene Okerlund was interviewing Jimmy Valiant.  The crowd cheered wildly
when Valiant was shown on the big screen.  Okerlund asked him how he was feeling ahead of his match with Big John
Studd tonight.  Before he could answer, Ric Flair appeared beside him, grinning slightly but obviously annoyed.  He said
that he's been watching Valiant strut around all night, thinking he is something because last night he went half an hour with
The Nature Boy!  "There's a word for that Jimmy, it's called luck."

Flair said that he'd let Jimmy Valiant off with his behaviour, if he just told the world right now that he got lucky.  Valiant
asked him to repeat the question.  Flair was right in there.

"Tell them Jimmy.  That you got lucky.  That no one can go like The Nature Boy."

"That's not what your women say, Naitch!" Valiant said with a smile.

"You son of a bitch.  You son of a bitch!!  Take that back!" Flair was incandescent with rage.

Valiant smiled as he made his way to the ring.

Jimmy Valiant pinned Big John Studd after a cross-body block in 0:07:56.
Rating: -** 1/4
[Ric Flair interfered against Jimmy Valiant.]

Big John Studd had the upper hand but he lost the match due to Ric Flair's rage!  Flair ran to the ring and got on the
apron.  Valiant grabbed him and they scuffled but as Studd ran up behind Valiant he moved out of the way and Studd
clobbered Flair!  Studd was dazed and Valiant hit him with a cross body block for the pinfall!

Backstage, Ricky Steamboat had a mic.  He said that he learned today that "Superstar" Billy Graham has left the WWE.
He said that it doesn't suprise him, he had a beating coming to him courtesy of The Dragon, and got out while he could!
He went on to say that tonight against Harley Race he was going to show Race the respect he craved, but Race better
respect him once he'd beaten him 1-2-3!

Harley Race pinned Ricky Steamboat after a German suplex in 0:06:44.
Rating: * 1/2

King Kong Bundy pinned Kamala after a falling splash in 0:03:36.
Rating: -**

Backstage, Vince McMahon made an announcement to the crowd.  He said he'd truly enjoyed watching the last 2
matches and said that those 4 men: Harley Race, Ricky Steamboat, Kamala & King Kong Bundy, would face each other
in a fatal 4 way elimination match at Judgment Day for the newly created Intercontinental Title!

Barry Windham made his way to the ring and his first words were short and sweet.  "Wahoo McDaniel, get your old ass
out here."  Wahoo made his way out and stood nose to nose with Windham.

Windham said that he was glad he cost McDaniel his match against Bob Orton at Crowning Glory, but he would be
even happier when he beat him and sent him into retirement once and for all.

Windham went to speak again but McDaniel took the mic off him.  He told Windham to be quiet and said, "Any time,
any place.  But I'm not beating you again just for you to make up some other bullshit excuse.  How about a match where
there's no hiding place?  Where there's no excuses afterwards?  Because the loser has to say, 'I quit!!'"

Windham looked shocked at the challenge, but after a few seconds contemplated the answer came.  "You're on."

Paul Orndorff pinned Abdullah the Butcher with the Piledriver in 0:04:10.
Rating: * 3/4

After the decision Orndorff took the mic.  He said that he can't help but think he let an opportunity slip away at
Crowning Glory.  "I had Hulk Hogan all but beat, but didn't take advantage and got careless."

He said he wouldn't let that happen again, and seeing as Hogan didn't have any business to attend to at Judgment Day
yet, how about he go one on one with Mr Wonderful??

Backstage, Nikolai Volkoff was leaving his locker room.  Obviously bouyed by his victory last night he was shouting into
the camera.  "Anyone, anyone!  Get to the ring.  Nikolai is issuing an open challenge!!"

Terry Taylor pinned Nikolai Volkoff with the Five Arm in 0:07:48.
Rating: 1/4*

After the match, Nikolai Volkoff trudged to the back, wearing a look of absolute disbelief.

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson) defeated
Buddy Landell and David Sammartino when Anderson pinned D. Sammartino with the
Gourdbuster in 0:07:00.
Rating: **

Backstage, Ric Flair & Barry Windham  are shown meeting the Minnesota Wrecking Crew as they come through the
curtain.  Flair offers his congratulations and they stand and talk for a couple of minutes.  Flair says that they have 4 ladies
waiting in the car so him & Windham will head on just now and let Ole & Arn catch up with them later.  The Andersons
smile and say they'll be there soon.  Flair & Windham walk towards their limo when coming the other way is Jimmy
Valiant, with all 4 women behind him!  "See ya later Naitch" he exclaimed with a knowing grin as Flair looked on in
anger!

Out at the ring the crowd came alive as Hulk Hogan's music played.  He came to the ring and took the mic.  He said that
he was going to take care of the Iron Sheik tonight and he was going to be on a one man wrecking mission until he
got his hands on the WWE title belt.

He said he likes and respects Andre The Giant but even if he has to go through him he'll do so, and that "Bob Orton, or
whoever the WWE Champion may be at the time, is on borrowed time."

He said that he heard Paul Orndorff earlier but told "Mr Wonderful" to stop trying to make a noise in the WWE off Hogan's
name, and that he had bigger fish to fry!!

Hulk Hogan pinned Iron Sheik with the Big Leg Drop in 0:07:37.

Match observations:

The fallout from Crowning Glory has been incredible, with many of the superstars walking about like bears with sore
heads?

Tune in next week, will Bob Orton have to face up to Andre The Giant?

Will Hulk Hogan remain good to his word to be a one man wrecking ball?

How will Paul Orndorff cope with Hogan's disrespectful comments?

How will Ric Flair react to Jimmy Valian't blatant baiting of him?

What next in the very personal issue between Barry Windham & Wahoo McDaniel?

And how will the four superstars in line for Intercontinental gold prepare?

See you there!

Monday Night Raw, 6 May 1985

Raw starts with Nikolai Volkoff coming to the ring

Volkoff says that ever since last weeks loss to Terry Taylor people have been ridiculing him.  He says that he is fed
up with the lack of respect he gets in the USA, and he deserves to be treated like a legend, just like he is in Russia!
The crowd appear to be completely ambivalent to his plight.

He says that if he doesn't win his match tonight, he will never compete in the WWE again, to which the crowd
sarcastically cheer.

"And to prove all of you ignorants wrong.  To prove that I am the man I say I am.  To keep my career I will face none other
than your hero!  Your beacon of so-called American values....Hulk Hogan!!"

Gorilla Monsoon on commentary wonders aloud if Volkoff has lost his marbles as he makes his way back to the locker
room!

The Legion of Doom (Hawk and Animal) defeated
The Russians (Ivan Koloff and Nikita Koloff) when Animal pinned I. Koloff
with the Powerslam in 0:04:35.
Rating: 3/4*

Big John Studd pinned Brutus Beefcake with the Backbreaker in 0:07:12.
Rating: 3/4*

Backstage, the crowd went wild when WWE interviewer Tom Martin was shown on the Titantron with "Handsome"
Jimmy Valiant beside him!  Martin asked Valiant if he was worried about repercussions in his 6 man tag tonight as he
teams up with The Rock 'n' Roll Express to take on Ric Flair & The Minnesota Wrecking Crew after Valiant's baiting of
Flair last week.

Valiant said that he couldn't be worried about anything after the amount of fun he's had over the last week with the
Horsemen's ex groupies!  He said that in Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton he had partners he trusted and thought a lot of.
He said that he was ready for whatever Flair & The Andersons had to throw at him, and he hoped they had new women
with them tonight!

The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton) defeated
Buddy Landell and David Sammartino when Eaton pinned B. Landell with the
Alabama Jam in 0:07:45.
Rating: * 1/4

Backstage, Barry Windham was shown entering Vince McMahon's office.  Windham said that he was happy he was
booked to face Abdullah The Butcher later in the show but he had a request to make.

He said that there's no sicker guy in the WWE than Abdullah but he wants to send a message to Wahoo McDaniel tonight
so he wants the match sanctioned as no count out and no DQ.

Vince looked at Windham quizzically.  "You're serious?  You want Abdullah in that kind of environment."

"You're damn right I do Vince.  Just say the word."

"On your head be it," McMahon said.  "On your head be it."

Kamala pinned Harley Race with the Air Africa in 0:04:57.
Rating: ** 1/4

Backstage, The Four Horsemen were in their locker room limbering up for their forthcoming matches when Ric Flair
began to talk.

The Nature Boy said that this was a big night for the Horsemen.  He pointed out that last week Jimmy Valiant tried to
disrespect them, and without respect the Horsemen are nothing!  He said that tonight is the night that things turn round
and The Horsemen begin to establish themselves as the dominant force in WWE.

He said that he wouldn't like to be in Ricky Morton, Robert Gibson or especially Jimmy Valiant's shoes right now and he
knows that they'll be trembling in their boots thinking about what lies ahead.

He said that even with his sick demented mind Abdullah The Butcher won't be looking forward to going one on one with
a motivated Barry Windham either, and said that Windham would do him proud tonight too!  They then left Windham in
the room alone as the three of them went to the ring for their match.

Rock'n'Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) and Jimmy Valiant defeated
Four Horsemen (Arn Anderson, Ole Anderson and Ric Flair) when R. Morton pinned
O. Anderson after a brain buster in 0:12:31.
Rating: * 3/4

After the match, a furious Ric Flair stormed the ring and hit several hard chops on Jimmy Valiant.  He tried to whip him
into the ropes but Valiant reversed it and followed it up with a clothesline to send The Nature Boy sprawling to the floor.
The Rock 'n' Roll Express celebrated with Valiant as Flair & The Minnesota Wrecking Crew backed up the ramp,
shouting threats back towards the ring!

After the commercial breaks, Mean Gene Okerlund was backstage with The Rock 'n' Roll Express, and congratulated
them on their victory.  Ricky Morton said that tonight The Rock 'n' Roll Express sent a message loud and clear to The
Minnesota Wrecking Crew - that they are ready to take the gold off them and now that they'd beaten them fairly in the
middle of the ring they want a title shot at Judgment Day!

Out at the ring, Bob Orton & Andre The Giant came to the ring for their contract signing for their title match at Judgment
Day.  Andre signed the contract immediately but just before Orton signed he had Heenan read it over.  Heenan smirked
and said that he was surprised Andre signed this as there are some rather large words in it that he was surprised he
could understand, like "pinfall," or "champion," or "challenger."

Andre glared at Heenan as Heenan said, "It's okay champ, sign the contract and get out of here so I don't need to put
up with the smell coming off this guy any more."

With that, Andre wrapped his enormous hands around Heenan's throat, ready to strangle him but before any damage
could be done Orton clocked Andre with a belt shot to the head, sending The Giant sprawling to the cavas.  Orton took
the mic, "Get used to starting at the lights big boy, cos it'll be same thing at Judgment Day."  With that, the WWE Champ
signed the contract and threw it down at the prone Andre as he left the ring to the derision of the crowd.

After the bell Barry Windham took the mic.

"You see that McDaniel??  You see that??  I've made Abdullah The Butcher say 'I quit' in his own environment and I'll
make you scream 'uncle' at Judgment Day old man.  And all of you people can put your houses on it!"

Ricky Steamboat pinned King Kong Bundy after a Victory Roll in 0:07:25.

Paul Orndorff pinned Tito Santana with the Piledriver in 0:07:44.
Rating: ** 3/4

Backstage, Hulk Hogan was shown with "Mean" Gene Okerlund.  Hogan said that tonight Nikolai Volkoff is the wrong
guy at the wrong time, and he'll need some kind of mental capacity test to challenge The Hulkster and put his career on
the line!  He said that by the end of the night Volkoff will be gone from WWE and The Hulkster will be that little bit closer
to a title shot.

Okerlund asked him if he'd seen Paul Orndorff's impressive victory over Tito Santana?  Hogan said that he had seen it
and he congratulates him on his victory but at the end of the day Orndorff isn't on his radar the moment.  He is focussed
one one goal - and that is becoming the #1 contender to the WWE title!

The camera cut to the parking lot, where Jimmy Valiant and a stunning woman were making their way to his car.  As
Valiant was just about to enter his car he heard a voice behind him.  "Running away Jimmy?"

It was Flair.  Valiant told the girl to get in the car and made his way to The Nature Boy.  "Have you not had enough over the
last couple of weeks Flair?  Do you honestly want more?"  Just as he said that though Barry Windham & The Minnesota
Wrecking Crew ambushed him from behind.  They knocked him to the floor before picking him up and holding his arms
back as Flair got in his face, slapping him in the face as he yelled that he shouldn't disrespect the Horsemen.  Flair
then unleashed a sickening kick way below the belt line to Valiant.

Valiant's body slumped against the bodies of Windham & The Andersons and they picked him up again.  Flair got in his
face.  "Let this be a lesson to you, punk," he said as he spat in his face before storming off as the Horsemen let Valiant
fall to the ground.

Hulk Hogan pinned Nikolai Volkoff with the Big Leg Drop in 0:06:16.
Rating: -** 1/4
[Paul Orndorff interfered against Hulk Hogan.]

Paul Orndorff tried his best to cost Hogan this match but after holding on to Hogan's leg as he bounced off the ropes,
officials removed him from ringside - leaving Hogan to dispatch of Volkoff.

After the bell as Hogan led the crowd in a chant of "goodbye" to the despairing Volkoff, Paul Orndorff made his way
through the crowd and blindside Hogan with a chairshot!  Orndorff laid the chair in the middle of the ring and nailed Hogan
with the Piledriver on it, before taking the mic.

"Try ignoring that you disrespectful asshole!!"

Card rating: *

Match observations:

You have to feel for Nikolai Volkoff, but his incessant complaining turned fans off him and it looks as though Hulk Hogan
has put him and the fans out of their misery.  Time will tell though.

Talking of Hogan, it would appear that "Mr Wonderful" Paul Orndorff has finally got his attention and it will be interesting
to see how The Hulkster retaliates next week.

There doesn't seem to be a more personal issue in the WWE at the moment than that between Ric Flair and Jimmy
Valiant.  Valiant has seemed to have the upper hand on The Nature Boy for a couple of weeks now, but Flair used his
great equaliser tonight - the rest of the Horsemen - to devastating effect.  It will be interesting to see how this changes
the dynamic of this intense rivalry.

Bob Orton & Bobby Heenan seem to be playing a very dangerous game with Andre The Giant.  They irked the big man
greatly tonight, and I wonder why they'd want to do that with Judgment Day on the horizon?

The Rock 'n' Roll Express got a pinfall victory over the Minnesota Wrecking Crew and it's been announced that they will
indeed get the chance to challenge for the titles at Judgment Day.

On the subject of title matches, the four men in contention for Intercontinental gold; Harley Race, Ricky Steamboat,
King Kong Bundy & Kamala all of have one loss and one victory over the last 2 Raws.  These men appear to be very
evenly matched and it will be interesting to see how that match goes at Judgment Day.

Finally, I wonder if Wahoo McDaniel was watching Barry Windham dismantle Abdullah The Butcher tonight and wonder
what he has let himself in for?  Or has the wily old "Chief" got a few tricks up his sleeve which will put the young pretender
in his place?

Find out next week, see you there!

Backstage in the Horsemen dressing room, Ric Flair and Barry Windham are sitting together.  Flair says that tonight
Barry Windham has an opportunity to take Jimmy Valiant out and he knows that he'll take it.  He told Windham to be as
ruthless as he was last week against Abdullah and to beat Jimmy Valiant "just like he did in the parking lot last week."

Wahoo McDaniel made Big John Studd submit to the Indian Deathlock in 0:09:10.
Rating: -*

After the decision Wahoo McDaniel got on the mic and told everyone that what they'd just seen was a sneak preview
of what awaited Barry Windham at Judgment Day!  He said that the time for talking is over and it would be Windham's
own "Judgment Day" when he found himself screaming for mercy in the Indian Deathlock!

Backstage, Paul Orndorff was seen arriving with 4 burly minders alongside him!

Iron Sheik made Brutus Beefcake submit to the Camel Clutch in 0:03:54.
Rating: ** 1/4

The crowd went wild as Hulk Hogan made his way to the ring!  He took the mic and said he'd been waiting for Orndorff
to arrive all night so now that he has, it's time to come out to the ring and face him like a man!

Orndorff came out tentatively, his 4 minders in tow.  He hesitantly got into the ring as Hogan began to speak.  He said that
last week Orndorff was wrong in a lot of ways, but one thing he was right about was that he finally got his, and all of the
Hulkamaniacs attention!  Hogan said that the biggest mistake of Orndorff's life was thinking that this was a good thing!

He said that in respect of Orndorff's challenge to meet the Hulkster at Judgment Day - "I unreserverdly accept."  Hogan
then leapt towards Orndorff but was restrained by the minders as Orndorff made a quick getaway.  As the camera
panned in close to Orndorff he could be heard shouting back at Hogan, "Not just yet!  Not just yet!"

Jimmy Valiant and Barry Windham battled to a double countout in 0:08:17.

[Arn Anderson interfered against Jimmy Valiant.]
[Ole Anderson interfered against Jimmy Valiant.]
[Ricky Morton interfered against Barry Windham.]
[Robert Gibson interfered against Barry Windham.]

As the Minnesota Wrecking Crew & The Rock 'n' Roll Express brawled in the ring Jimmy Valiant ran to the back and
pounded on Flair's locker room door, screaming at him he was too cowardly to do his own dirty work so sent the
Wrecking Crew instead.  Flair was shown on the other side of the door, looking slighly worried at Valiant's rant but
happy with his nights work.

Andre the Giant pinned Harley Race with the Elbowdrop in 0:09:57.

[Kamala interfered against Harley Race.]

After Andre The Giant had left the ring, Kamala continued to celebrate to the delight of the crowd.  However, a livid
Harley Race had other ideas and attacked the Ugandan from behind and laid him out with a punch to the back of the
head before trying to choke him on the bottom rope!

After the ring cleared, Vince McMahon came to the ring and announced that over the last couple of weeks and tonight
we'd seen beat-downs, bloody brawls and general anarchy in the WWE!  He said that it was time to bring in a
commissioner to keep everyone in line and he's proud to announce the new commissioner - "Rowdy" Roddy Piper!

The crowd reacted strongly, the few cheers being drowned out by boos.  Piper hobbled to the ring on his crutches and
said that even with one leg there's no one more qualified to keep things in check and make things interesting than Hot
Rod!!

McMahon congratulated him on his appointment.

Bob Orton pinned Ricky Steamboat with the Superplex in 0:16:14.

Match observations:

Another wild episode of Monday Night Raw!  There's only one more before the much anticipated Judgment Day!

The big news obviously is the appointment of Roddy Piper as new commissioner of the WWE.  Hot Rod is currently on
the injured list and sees this as an ideal opportunity to keep himself involved.  How fair he will be remains to be seen.

The main event for tonight in the non title match was as good a match as we've seen in WWE so far.  Ricky Steamboat
pushed "Cowboy" Bob Orton hard but Orton proved tonight that although controversy surrounds how he won the WWE
title that one thing can't be disputed; he's good - damn good in fact!  And he'll need to be to get through Andre The
Giant!

It's just as well Judgment Day is coming up soon because I don't know how much longer Jimmy Valiant & Ric Flair would
be able to go without tearing each other's heads off!

Wahoo McDaniel met Barry Windham's challenge last week with an impressive submission victory of his own to prove
there's life in the old dog yet!

Hogan/Orndorff is on for Judgment Day!  Has "Mr Wonderful" bitten off more than he can chew, or will this be a bridge
too far for The Hulkster?

Again, great cards... looks like Judgment Day is going to be a very good PPV.

BTW, do you book interferences (for storyline purposes)?

Thanks.

I do book interference for storyline purposes but feel it to be too random, which is why I never display highlights.   :D

Two very good cards with lots of stuff heating up as we head into the PPV. Keep up the good work.
