What If...Vince McMahon Went to Jail (1994)

mdale2kPosted on 11/13/07 at 02:05:20

Well I decided to run with this.  Here's the Premise

VINCE THE JAIL BIRD

Premise: In 1993 Vince McMahon was charged with distributing steriods to his wrestlers.  The Prosecution had the biggest name in professional wrestling on his side in one Hulk Hogan.   WHAT IF Vince McMahon was convicted of this crime and was sent to jail for 10 years.  After the conviction the WWF was in shambles, with Linda McMahon at the held, several top wrestlers followed Hulk Hogan to the WCW.  In July of 1994 the following wrestlers  followed Hulk Hogan to WCW, Bret Hart, Owen Hart, The Undertaker, Lex Luger, Razor Ramon, Shawn Michaels, Diesel and The Steiner Brothers.  Due to the scandel USA Network decided to pull WWF Monday Night Raw from its programming damaging the  WWF completely.  Now it is a month leading up to Summerslam, with no WWF World Champion (Bret Hart left), no WWF Intercontinental Champion (Shawn Michaels left), no WWF Tag Team Champions (Steiners defected).  Can you bring the WWF back to prominance with a new late night Saturday Night Slot?
Player Promotion: World Wrestling Federation with Linda McMahon as CEO and Vince McMahon in jail
Starting Date: July, 1994 (around the time Vince's trial ended)
Top Stars: Randy Savage (Commentator), Yokozuna, Roddy Piper
Champions: All titles vacant as all champions move to WCW
Roster: "MVP" Steve Lombardi, Virgil, The Bushwackers, The Mountie, Irwin R. Shyster, Tatanka, Barry Horowitz, Crush, The Headshrinkers, Bob Backlund, Bam Bam Bigelow, Jerry Lawler, Men on a Mission, The Smoking Gunns, 1-2-3 Kid, Adam Bomb, Pierre Oulette, The Heavenly Bodies, Jeff Jarrett, Bob 'Spark Plug' Holly, Nikolai Volkoff, Duke Droese, Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart, The Fake Undertaker Brian Lee, Ted DiBiase, The Barbarian, Davey Boy Smith, King Kong Bundy
Special Rules:
1. None of the  defectors to WCW can ever return to the World Wrestling Federation.  Linda McMahon has a vendetta against them for leaving the company right after the trial.
2. As well WWF cannot get a better time slot for about two years time if all goes well.  If the company continues to slide it could lose its late night slot
3. The WWF has already scheduled 4 pay per views for 1995 of Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam and Survivor Series.  After that if the WWF is doing well the next year 4 more, if not then it will be reduced to 2.
4. If someone does not want to sign with you then you cannot sign or attempt to sign them for another two years.
5. The Wrestling World now has a strict no tolerance Steriod Policy mandated by congress so WWF will not go for the steriod junkies but will try and go after more athletic real looking wrestlers.
6. As a side note, trying to bring back old WWF superstars who have retired might be a good way to conjure up interest.
mdale2kPosted on 11/13/07 at 02:06:32

I am planning on sort of running a summary by one of the Writer's on what is going on in the WWF during the time.  Here is the first Blog Entry

The Date is July 12th, 1994.  It has been a very bad week for the World Wrestling Federation.  Vince McMahon was convicted of distributing and selling steroids to his wrestlers and was sentenced to ten years in prison.

This set off a chain reaction of events.  First the USA Network pulled the new show Monday Night Raw from their list of television Programming.

Also many wrestlers left the World Wrestling Federation including WWF World Champion Bret Hart, WWF Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels, WWF World Tag Team Champions The Steiner Brothers, Diesel, Razor Ramon, Owen Hart, Lex Luger and The Undertaker.  Randy Savage will be leaving at the end of his current contract at the end of 1994.

Summerslam is August 28th, 1994, a mere 45 days away.

This was not what I envisioned when I left my job at MGM to become a writer at the World Wrestling Federation.

I walked out of the first meeting since the loss of the top competitors
- Linda McMahon said we have a Saturday Night timeslot of 12:00 to 1:00 (better then nothing I suppose)
- WWF Superstars will be continued to be syndicated
- All defectors will never return as long as the McMahons are running the company
- Questions abound about what to do the with Fake Undertaker Storyline with Ted DiBiase as the manager with the Undertaker gone.
- According to some sources that some of the WCW younger stars are upset about the influx of WWF talent pushing them further down the ladder.
- With Summerslam not too far away we need to make a statement and get things ready.

Lineup until Summerslam

July 16th- Saturday Night's Main Event
July 19th - WWF Superstars Taping
July 23rd - Saturday Night's Main Event
July 26th - WWF Superstars Taping

WWF Saturday Nights Main Event
July 16th, 1994

The show opens up with the New Opening showing the stars on the roster.

Duke Droese pinned Virgil with the Trash Compactor in 0:04:24.
Rating: ***

Duke the Dumpster Droese came out to the ring to face Virgil. Duke dominated this match and actually looked to be a bit upset and more determined.

After the match, Duke grabs a microphone. He tells the crowd to shut up. Not what you would expect from your friendly neighbourhood garbage man! He says that he is not a garbage man and this is something that was saddled with him by a man who is in jail. Clearly his judgement is impaired. I am Duke Droese, I am not a garbage man. I am one mean hombre. And Virgil was the first in my path of destruction that will lead to the WWF World Championship. The crowd boos heavily.

The Smoking Gunns (Billy Gunn and Bart Gunn) defeated
The Head Shrinkers (Samu and Fatu) when Bart Gunn pinned Fatu after the
Sidewinder in 0:18:29.
Rating: **

Big tag team match as The Smoking Gunns took on The Headshrinkers. The Headshrinkers took it to the Gunns in the early going of this match. The isolated Bart Gunn from his teammate Billy Gunn. Finally after a commercial break Bart was able to get to his corner to bring in the fresh Billy Gunn. Gunn took it too both Samu and Fatu slamming both of them and clotheslining Samu to the outside. The Gunns using their double team moves and then Bart hit the sidewinder for the win.

Ted DiBiase's Million Dollar Theme plays as Ted DiBiase comes out with his Undertaker. The crowd boos in the small arena here for Saturday Night's Main Event. Ted DiBiase gets on the microphone and begins to talk about Paul Bearer. He says that The Undertaker is still here Paul and that he is the true dead man of the World Wrestling Federation. Paul, the next time you show your face you will be destroyed. Ted talked about what's going to happen with the World Title and he said the Undertaker wants his shot at the title.

The lights go out and Paul Bearer's voice is heard. He says that Ted's Undertaker and says that he has a man that will destroy him once and for all. A man more evil then anything anyone has seen. A man who has killed people before. A man The real Undertaker forgot existed. He will be revealed it due time. Oh yessss Ted.

Tatanka defeated Irwin R. Schyster by disqualification in 0:05:55.
Rating: * 1/4

IRS and the Native American Tatanka fought in the next contest. Both of these men are hungry for gold in the new WWF that is for sure and a win here would likely show the brass what they are all about. However IRS would get DQ for a choke hold that he did not release. IRS then KO'ed Tatanka with the briefcase to the boos from the crowd.

Yokozuna pinned Davey Boy Smith after a powerslam in 0:10:24.
Rating: *
[Crush interfered against Davey Boy Smith.]

Main Event time as Mr. Fuji led the massive former World Champion Yokozuna to the ring to take on 'The British Bulldog' Davey Boy Smith. Everyone new this would be a tough matchup. DBS did his best in the early going against the massive Sumo wrestler by Zuna was not having any of it. He did clothesline him four times and that finally sent Yoko to the mat. Crush came down to the ring and got on the apron and DBS hit him off and then Zuna hit a massive powerslam to the Englishman and that was enough to get the pinfall.

Crush came in and set DBS up for the Banzai Drop and out ran Rowdy Roddy Piper with steel chair in hand. Crush took a shot and Yoko rolled out of the ring.

WWF Superstars Taping
July 19th, 1994
To be aired all over North America Syndicately

Backstage we see Irwin R. Shyster, better known as IRS, standing in front of WWF Logo being interviewed. The interviewer asked IRS why he attacked Tatanka after his match on Saturday Night's Main Event. IRS says it is very simple. He said for too long native Americans have enjoyed favourable tax status and that changes now. Their non-payment of tax has been a cancer on America. Tatanka, much like his tribemates, is nothing more then a lot down tax cheat!

Bam Bam Bigelow pinned J.R. Ryder after a flying headbutt in 0:04:33.
Rating: **

Bam Bam Bigelow, the Beast from the East, took on JR Ryder in the opener here on Superstars. Bam Bam was all over Ryder and it showed as he dominated him physically as he does outweigh him by 100 pounds. He finished him off with a gorilla press and a flying headbutt.

Adam Bomb pinned Barry Horowitz with the Crotch Slam in 0:05:30.
Rating: **

Adam Bomb 'The Creation of Devestation' took on Barry Horowitz. All the patting himself on the back could not help Barry in this match. He hit the Crotch Slam for the win.

Jeff Jarrett and Jerry Lawler defeated The Bushwhackers (Bushwhacker Luke and Bushwhacker Butch) when J. Jarrett pinned Luke after a gutwrench suplex in 0:08:42.
Rating: 3/4*

The fun loving Bushwackers took on the new tag team of Jerry 'The King' Lawler and Jeff 'Double J' Jarrett. The men from Tennessee got the win when Jarrett hit a gutwrench suplex for the win.

Bob Backlund made The Mountie submit to the Crossface Chickenwing in 0:20:00.
Rating: **

Main event time as the former WWF World Champion back in the 80s Bob Backlund took on The Mountie. The Mountie quickly goes to work on the former World Champion. The Mountie hits a couple of suplexes and then hits a nice looking dropkick and covers but not enough. The Mountie yells out 'I'm the Mountie' to the crowd to which they respond with boos. The Mountie continues to beat down Backlund. Backlund would eventually come back after a mis calculated move from the top rope as The Mountie went for flying bodypress but Backlund moved. Backlund would lock The Mountie in the Crossface Chicken Wing and that was good enough for the win.
mdale2kPosted on 11/17/07 at 01:48:54

It's been a long week here at the World Wrestling Federation.  We got our first two shows out of the way and the Saturday Night's Main Event seemed to go fine.  It will be tough to keep an audience on such a late night.

Notes from weekly meetings
-      There have been rumblings in World Championship Wrestling that some of the younger guys are worried about not being pushed anymore with the influx of talent.  Men specifically like Alex Wright, 'Stunning' Steve Austin, 'Flyin' Brian Pillman among others.
-      It is known that Alex Wright's contract is up shortly, maybe he will be approached to come and work in the WWF.
-      The Tag Team Title Tournament will be starting up this week on Saturday Night's Main Event.
-      Also it appears the World Title Tournament will happen at Summerslam and will feature 8 wrestlers.
VertigoPosted on 11/17/07 at 19:08:09

I would say you're off to a good start. I like the roster you have because there is a LOT of room to develop new top guys. It's obvious that Yoko is going to be on top or very close to the top for a long time. He was convincing even WITH the guys like Hart and Hogan around.

Everything still seems jumbled though. And understandably. The Yoko/Crush & Piper/Bulldog thing could to build around. I'm looking forward seeing where this goes.

I'm also looking forward to some of the WCW guys coming over. An overload of guys could be a turnoff, or bringing many over quickly, but I think you can do it tastefully.

Looking forward to the future...

WWF Saturday Night's Main Event
July 23rd, 1994

Saturday Night's Main Event opens up with 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper in the centre of the ring with Piper's Pit set up.  Piper talks about Yokozuna and Crush.  He said that Yokozuna the time that he has been dominating is over.  He talks about Crush how he is just a big boy but he does not know how to fight.  He says that tonight him and The British Bulldog are going to take care of business.  Yokozuna's theme plays as Yokozuna, Crush and Mr. Fuji come out.  Crush tells Piper that he should go back Scotland.  Tonight is just the beginning.  We run the WWF from now on.

Duke Droese pinned 1-2-3 Kid after a double underhook suplex in 0:05:02.
Rating: ** 3/4

The opening match featured the 1-2-3 Kid taking on none other then Duke Droese.  Duke had disregarded his Garbage man persona and now has regular wrestling attire.  The fans booed him for his attack on Virgil last week.  1-2-3 Kid did not stand much of a chance against the much bigger Duke Droese.  Droese hit the Trash Compactor and then a double underhook suplex on 1-2-3 Kid for the win.  After the match he was not down with Kid and hit a huge power bomb and the crowd booed him even more.

Tatanka is in the ring before his scheduled match with Adam Bomb.  He talks about the comments made by IRS last week on Superstars and his attacks he has made.  He talks about coming from a long history of tradition in his family.  He tells IRS that he pays his taxes and get some from the government for the hardships his people have suffered.  He tells IRS that anytime he wants another piece of him he will be ready.

Adam Bomb pinned Tatanka with the Crotch Slam in 0:19:25.
Rating: ** 3/4
[Irwin R. Shyster interfered against Tatanka.]

Adam Bomb and Tatanka did battle in the next match.  Tatanka was giving up some size in this match but he planned to make up for it with quickness and having the crowd behind him.  Bomb started quickly attacking Tatanka with a variety of kicks and punches and hit a few power moves.  Tatanka would come back and chop the living bejesus's out of Bomb.  Tatanka definitely had the momentum.  But out from the back comes the evil taxman, Irwin R. Shyster.  IRS interjects himself again into Tatanka's business.  Tatanka gets distracted and IRS gets on the apron and gets a chop to the head from his troubles. But Tatanka did no expect what was going to happen next as Bomb hit a huge boot to the face.  Bomb then hit the Crotch Slam for the win and IRS weasels his way to the back.

Backstage 'The Doctor of Desire' Tom Pritchard and 'Gigglo' Jimmy Del Ray are standing by with their manager Jim Cornette.  Cornette begins to hype on this team as the next great team in the World Wrestling Federation.  He says that they will be the team left standing at the end of the World Tag Team Title Tournament.  Pritchard then begins to hype up his and Del Ray's looks and how the ladies all love them adding some heat for the team.

[First Round of Tag Team Title Tournament]:
Men on a Mission (Mo and Mabel) defeated Pierre Oulette and The Mountie when
Mabel pinned Mountie after a roundhouse right in 0:29:47.
Rating: ***

The first round of the tag team tournament as Men on a Mission, those fun loving Rappers taking on the two Quebecers, The Mountie and Pierre Oulette.  The Quebecers were giving up a ton of size in this match and M.O.M definitely wanted to use that to their advantage.  The match went to the  outside early on Mo and The Mountie and Oulette doubled teamed him as the referee stopped Mabel from getting involved.  M.O.M would end up using their size to break down the Quebecers hitting a huge roundhouse for the win and moves on in the tournament.

Yokozuna and Crush defeated Davey Boy Smith and Roddy Piper when Crush pinned D.B. Smith after a spinebuster slam in 0:22:29.
Rating: 3/4*

Yokozuna and Crush came down with Mr. Fuji to take on the pride of Scotland and the pride of England, Roddy Piper and Davey Boy Smith.  Crush and DBS start off and this was not the most technically sound affair between the two of them.  They were tossing punches back and forth.  DBS tossed him the to the ropes and hits a huge clothesline and then goes to the corner and punches Yokozuna.  Yoko chops him back.  Crush tags Yoko in and Yoko goes to work hitting a huge belly-to-belly suplex.  Yoko sets up for the Banzai Drop but Piper comes in and breaks it up.  DBS is finally able to make the tag to Piper and Piper and DBS and they double team Yoko with a double elbow smash and a double clothesline.  Yoko makes the tag to Crush and Crush dominated Piper for a few minutes and then Piper tags DBS in and DBS is all over Crush.  He sets him up for the Running powerslam!!  He hits it but Yoko breaks up the pin.  Piper comes flying in at Yoko and Yoko takes his punches and tosses him to the outside.  Yoko hits  a belly-to-belly on DBS and then a legdrop.  Crush hits a spinebuster slam and pins DBS!!

Yokozuna and Crush raise their hands in victory as the show ends.
shapyPosted on 11/20/07 at 00:49:28

just read through all your posts. it's a hell of a concept. quite interesting. i'll follow.
VertigoPosted on 11/20/07 at 17:24:27

Just nit-picking, but noticed that the other shows were running around an hour while this recent SNME went close to 2 hours. To keep it more realistic, you should consider tweaking the match lengths to keep the matches from going so long.

Unless of course SNME shows aren't televised (which is the impression I'm getting, but was confused with the Saturday night timeslot). If that's the case, then Superstars was spot-on and I'm not telling you anything you don't know :)
mdale2kPosted on 11/20/07 at 19:58:56

Ya I did notice that.  The Bomb/Tatanka match ran long due to the intereference that took awhile to happen.

I shall be more aware next time  ::)

WWF Superstars Taping
July 26th, 1994
To be aired all over North America Syndicately

HAHAHA, Money Money Money, plays as Ted DiBiase comes out from the back followed by his Undertaker.  Ted gets in the ring and talks to the Paul Bearer.  He says that The Undertaker is not afraid of anything and certainly not some demonic individual that he claims to have.  But I have been informed that The Undertaker will be in the eight man World Title Tournament at Summerslam.

The Undertaker pinned J.R. Ryder after a Tombstone Piledriver in 0:04:03.
Rating: ***

The first match was The Undertaker taking on J.R. Ryder.  You have to feel for Ryder in this situation.  He did not stand a chance against the much bigger, the much stronger and much scarier Taker.  The Undertaker finished him off with the Tombstone Piledriver.  After the match Ted DiBiase brought in a body bag and the Undertaker placed Ryder in it.

1-2-3 Kid pinned Barry Horowitz after a moonsault from the second turnbuckle in 0:05:17.
Rating: **

The 1-2-3 Kid took on Barry Horowitz in the next match.  Barry did not get a lot of time in this match to pat himself on the back as the 1-2-3 Kid would come away with the much needed win over Barry after an impressive moonsault off the second turnbuckle.

Jeff Jarrett and Jerry 'The King' Lawler are backstage and Double J starts to talk about the history of Tennessee Wrestling.  He talks about his dad and Lawler how they ran Tennessee and now the legacy of Tennessee Wrestling.  Lawler talks about how they are going to run the tag team division.  They talk about the match next week against The Smoking Gunns and say they are going to win.

Jimmy Del Ray and Tom Prichard defeated The Bushwhackers (Bushwhacker Luke and Bushwhacker Butch) when J. Del Ray pinned Butch with the Moonsault Bodyblock in 0:07:08.
Rating: 3/4*

The Heavenly Bodies along with Jim Cornette took on the Bushwackers in the next match.  Both of these teams are competing in the World Tag Team Titles tournament.  The Heavenly Bodies showed good tag team wrestling that I am sure has been helped by the veteran manager Jim Cornette.  Del Ray would hit a moonsault body block for the win.

Bam Bam Bigelow pinned The Barbarian after a flying headbutt in 0:10:06.
Rating: * 1/4

Main event time as The Barbarian took on Bam Bam Bigelow.  These two big men did not use any ground wrestling or anything that would liken to technical wrestlers.  The Barbarian gained the early advantage hitting a nice savate kick and a vertical suplex on the 300 plus pounder.  Bam Bam would fight back, using his head, literally hitting the Barbarian with a series of headbutts that I don't think effected ether man.  Bam Bam would slam and clothesline the Barbarian.  Bam Bam climbs to the top of the turnbuckles and flys off with a headbutt and gets the three count for the win.
King_Of_Old_SchoolPosted on 11/22/07 at 10:34:05

Big fan of this circuit, really great idea. It would be brilliant if someone ran a concurrent WCW circuit to see how that would pan out.
VertigoPosted on 11/22/07 at 16:21:27

That would be simply amazing and I might be interested... just not sure if I could handle all that top talent.
jursoPosted on 11/23/07 at 04:41:12

would run a WCW along this idea if I wasn't already running a WWE circuit and a TNA circuit ... just don't have time for three ...

tried three for a while (WWE, NWA, ECW), but eventually had to combine NWA and ECW into TNA (reluctantly, I might add as I am not a huge fan of TNA)

but I am loving this concept ... awesome idea
mdale2kPosted on 11/23/07 at 05:40:41

You could do a sick Invasion angle with Hart, Nash, Hall, Steiners, etc.

I would love to see someone run it.   I would do it myself but two would lkely overwelm me
