The WCW World Championship Sixteen Man Round Robin Tournament begins tonight! The rules are two points will be given for each victory, one point for each draw, and of course, if you lose, you get nothing! At the end, the two men with the highest point totals will compete for the right to become the undisputed WCW World Champion. Four tournament matches tonight have been drawn at random and four more for Thunder have been drawn at random! Let's get down to the ring for the first match in the tournament!

Billy Kidman squares off against Vampiro

Vampiro looks over his shoulder as he comes down to ringside. Mysterious figures in Sting masks have been following him around, ever since Vampiro burned Sting alive at the Great American Bash. Vampiro and Kidman trade wrestling moves with Vampiro getting the advantage, and catching Kidman right in the chops with a spin kick. Vampiro works over Kidman in both the ring and on the floor but makes the crucial mistake of going for a power bomb against Kidman. Kidman reverses into a faceplant and he pounds away on Vampiro. Rydeen Bomb scores a nearfall. Springboard Legdrop scores another nearfall but springboard bulldog is blocked and Kidman is crotched. Roundhouse kick blasts Kidman in the chops and Vampiro scoops up Kidman before bringing him down with the Vampiro Spike. Vampiro cradles Kidman and scores the pin!

Vampiro pinned Billy Kidman with the Vampiro Spike in 0:09:24.
Rating: ** 1/4

Vampiro puts himself on the board with the win but since this is only the first week, there is plenty of time for Kidman to make up for this early disappointment in the tournament and maybe become WCW World Champion. It is anyone's ballgame at this point.

The Filthy Animals are in The Cat's office, talking about how they should receive a WCW World Tag Team Title Shot against Kronik but in come the Perfect Event, yelling about how they should have their rematch clause. Konnan calls the Perfect Event a couple of puffed up strawberries and says Disco and Rey-Rey beat the champions in a non title match, so the title shot is theirs. The Cat says he is looking closely at the tag team title scene and tonight, Disco and Rey can prove their worth by taking on Jindrak and O' Haire. If they can win that match, then the Cat will consider their claims that they deserve a tag team title shot.

The Misfits in Action(Lt. Loco and Corporal Cajun)(w/Major Gunns) squares off against Three Count(Shannon Moore and Shane Helms)(w/Evan Karagias)

Loco has been a fighting champion as of late, defending his belt three times in the past week but tonight he squares off against tag team match. Typical cruiserweight fare, that the crowd got into pretty good over halfway towards the match. Cajun was double teamed by Three Count in the corner but he fought out and tag made to Loco, who cleans house on Three Count. He dumps Shannon Moore to the floor but before he can finish off Shane Helms, Evan Karagias is on the ring apron. Loco dropkicks him off and gets backslided from behind. Helms puts his feet on the middle rope to score the pin over the WCW Cruiserweight Champion!

Three Count leave with the victory like thieves in the night, as the Misfits stew in the ring. This is far from over!

Jeff Jarrett is on a rampage backstage, reminding us how he should be in the WCW World Title Tournament. He steps in front of Daffney, who he orders to get out of his way. Daffney responds by screaming in Jarrett's face, causing Jarrett to stagger back slightly before he goes after Daffney. Fortunately for her, Crowbar steps in front of Jarrett. Crowbar says that Jarrett looks like he's ready for a fight and Crowbar could be just the man to give him one. Jarrett says that Crowbar has picked the wrong night and he will be made an example out of by the uncrowned WCW World Champion. As Jarrett walks off, Crowbar says that Jarrett is the one who is going to be the example!

The Filthy Animals(Disco Inferno and Rey Misterio Jr) square off against Mark Jindrak and Sean O' Haire

Tygress, Juvi, and Konnan have been banned by ringside, to make sure this match is on the level. The Rookie Sensations pinball Rey, but Rey goes low on Jindrak and Disco chokes him from behind, allowing the Filthy Animals to take control, double teaming Jindrak and keeping the bigger man off balance. Jindrak fights out of the corner, wiping the Filthy Animals out with a double clothesline. Tag made to Sean O' Haire and O' Haire is a house of fire, tossing Disco and Rey around like ragdolls! Huge clothesline nearly turns Disco inside out and he turns his attention to Rey, who manages to go low with a headbutt and a nice Rocker Dropper. Rey steps to the outside, going for a springboard rana but Chuck Palumbo is on the outside, while Shawn Stasiak is distracting the referee. Palumbo cracks Rey across the back of the legs with the lex flexer! He rolls Rey back into the ring but Sean O' Haire hasn't seen it. He hoists Rey up and Death Valley Driver as Palumbo catches Disco with the Jungle Kick! O' Haire goes up top and Seanton Bomb connects to Rey to score the pin!

The Perfect Event run up the ramp, cackling at screwing the Filthy Animals over and thus potentially eliminating a roadblock towards receiving a rematch against Kronik for the WCW Tag Team Titles down the road.

WCW World Title Tournament Match:
Bryan Clark of Kronik squares off against Tank Abbott

The next match in the round robin tournament is Bryan Clark, who has taken the spot in the tournament offered to Kronik. Both of these men brawl, with absolutely no technical wrestling. Clark manages to keep out of distance from the huge punch from Tank Abbott but just as Abbott looks about ready to lose, all three members of Three Count run down from the back to save their number one fan. Springboard Dropkick from Shannon Moore barely affects Clark but it is a disqualification never the less!

Bryan Clark defeated Tank Abbott by disqualification in 0:04:43.
Rating: -**
[Shannon Moore interfered against Bryan Clark.]

Moore gets rocked with a boot to the chest and Evan Karagias goes for a crossbody but gets caught and flung into the air. Shane Helms manages to catch Clark with a chop block and triple team by Three Count but out comes Brian Adams to make the save, but Tank Abbott belts Adams right in the face with that vicious knockout punch, dropping him to the canvas! Three Count hold Clark and Tank smashes Clark right in the face with that Knockout Punch. Both members of Kronik have been laid out thanks to Tank Abbott as Three Count cockily stand over Kronik, posing with the WCW Tag Team Title Belts! As Kronik shows some signs of life, Three Count and Tank bolt, not wanting to face the wrath of the WCW Tag Team Champions.

Positively Kanyon and Shane Douglas(w/Torrie Wilson) take on the Great Muta and Lance Storm

These four men will be involved in tournament matches on Wednesday but for right now, they compete in tag team action. The announcers talk about how the Great Muta wants to become the first ever Japanese WCW World Champion and he knocks both Douglas and Kanyon around but Douglas manages to catch Muta with a low blow and a jawbreaker to score the advantage. Double team in the corner, but Muta fights out and dropkicks Kanyon in the knee, sending him in the corner. Springboard Elbow and faceslam! Rush to the tag. Douglas is tagged but Lance Storm is tagged as well. Springboard Clothesline. Spinning leg lariat rocks Kanyon and Lance Storm chops away on Shane Douglas before whipping him into the ropes. Frankensteiner rocks Douglas and Storm forearms away on Douglas. Kanyon enters the ring but Muta catches him with a dropkick to the knee before catching him with a dragon screw. Torrie Wilson is on the ring apron but Muta spits green mist in Torrie's face! This gets a loud pop from the fans, as Torrie freaks out! Lance Storm rolls through, locking the Canadian Mapleleaf on the Franchise. Douglas has nowhere to go before he taps out giving the team of Storm and Muta the win!

Scott Steiner squares off against Buff Bagwell

Steiner is in a foul mood and footage from Thunder shows us why, as he was pinned by Muta in tag team action after Muta used the mist! Buff poses but Steiner assaults him. The announcers talk about how these two men were tag team partners in the NWO but the partnership dissolved and they had a feud over the WCW United States Championship last year. Steiner works over the neck of Bagwell, hotshotting him before delivering a high angle belly to back suplex. Steiner goes for a belly to belly but Bagwell fights out. Dropkick and swinging neckbreaker score a two count. Buff pounds away at Steiner and hits a double arm DDT for a close two count. Buff goes to the second rope but Blockbuster misses. HEY! great minds think alike, right? same thing happened at my last show, except it was tajiri spitting the mist at kidman, and kidman ducked it, so torrie got nailed with it. haha, i guess we really want to see torrie, um, dripping wet even if it is a green ooze....

but for real, i enjoyed this show and the tournament is looking good
