Match Observations:
The card for Heat Wave 2007 is really starting to take shape now. Three big matches were announced tonight immediately following Showdown as the result of what transpired on tonight's program. The biggest of these three matches is arguably a three way dance between Edge, AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy. AJ Styles is gunning after both Hardy, who used some questionable tactics in what turned out to be a loss to Styles, and Edge, who cheated him out of certain victory against Randy Orton at Gold Rush. All three men met in the ring at the end of last weeks Showdown, which end with AJ Styles being pushed into an Edge spear by Jeff Hardy. Edge interfered in the one on one match between Hardy and Styles tonight. When referee Sean Traverson was knocked out due to an errant Whisper In the Wind by Hardy, Edge ran down to the ring and took liberties on Styles. He nailed a Spear which set up a Hardy Swanton Bomb that won the match. After the match, Edge offered his hand to Hardy and when Jeff went to shake it, pulled him in and delivered a Downward Spiral!

Edge certainly isn't making many friends in the CWA thus far. About the only person he can count on is World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton, and even that relationship is rocky. Tonight's main event saw Edge taking on CM Punk in an attempt to soften up the challenger before Heat Wave. Thigns didn't quite work out that way as CM Punk got the victory via a short lariat that completely turned Edge inside out. These two threw everything they had at each other but in the end CM Punk proved why he is the number one contender to Orton's title belt.

Tito Ortiz continued his dominance tonight as he took on the other half of Virtual Insanity, Delirious. Delirious faired a little bit better than his partner did last week as he was able to last three minutes with Ortiz. Like Deranged, however, he was simply no match for Ortiz and was promptly choked out via a Rear Naked Choke. After the match, Ortiz got on the mic and yelled about how no one has accepted his open challenge yet. That prompted Traci Brooks of all people to come out and announce that she has found someone to take on Ortiz and Heat Wave. Ortiz demanded to know who it was, asking if it was Angle or Goldberg or even Liddell? All Brooks had to say is that the centerpiece of Brooks International will be making his debut at Heat Wave and that her man will easily defeat Ortiz in the center of the ring.

Yet another vignette for The Panthers aired tonight. It was announced that Shelton Benjamin and Elijah Burke will take on Virtual Insanity at Heat Wave. Speaking of Virtual Insanity, they will be participating in a 2 on 1 handicap match against Tito Ortiz next week on Showdown!

Jerry Lynn was set to take on Daniel Puder this week but Chavo Guerrero of all people paid him off to "take the night off." The muscle man Chris Masters was hand picked by Guerrero to inflict some damage. The plan backfired though as the cagey veteran was able to out think Masters and surprisingly hit the Cradle Piledriver to take home the victory. Guerrero jumped Lynn after the match and beat him down with a chair. He yelled something about how Lynn just doesn't know when to quit and that he will beat Lynn two times at Heat Wave, just to prove that he is the better man. This situation gets more explosive as the weeks go by.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was the fact that The New South defeated Generation Next in a non-title match in a little over five minutes. The champs have been mired in a serious funk as of late as The New South have seemingly beaten them at every turn. This most recent lost can not bode well for the champs going into Heat Wave, that's for sure.

Next week on the final Showdown before Heat Wave we will see Tito Ortiz take on Virtual Insanity and all three participants in the Triangle Match will be in singles action and much more! Be sure to tune in

This past Showdown was Traci's first appearence in CWA. Her mystery man will be the centerpiece of Brooks International, which presumably means that more people will join forces with her down the road.

Jerry Lynn and Chavo would be sweet to see in real life, but that is part of what makes TNM awesome. I'm hoping that this feud will last a long while, it's just a matter of keeping it fresh.

I use Burke and Benjamin as The Panthers in an offline fed of mine and they work very well together, TNM-wise. I'm not sure if I am going to use them in a serious or comedic light just yet. We'll see how their first few matches play out before I pass judgement.

Thanks for reading!

I really enjoy CWA.  Your roster is nice, not terribly stacked but with good talent.  It's interesting that Tito is usually starting the show off with every card nearly.  Jerry Lynn has always been a great performer so him going over Masters is cool, although in real life Masters has shown a little more promise lately.  Hardy and Styles would be a fun program to see, lots of flippy floppy action but interesting nonetheless.

Back and forth action between New South and Generation NEXT is nice.  Good to see a real tag team feud, facing one another over and over will only build chemistry that will inevitably lead to some classics probably.  CM Punk gets another hot victory and has nice momentum going into Heatwave.

Heatwave's looking good so far, good luck with everything!

Yeah, I noticed that he opens a lot of shows (SPOILER: he opens the upcoming Showdown as well). I am a fan of big names starting off shows and right now Tito is arguably the biggest heel in the company after he injured Jericho and turned his back on the fans. A few Showdowns ago I had an Orton match open up the show.

I love it when I turn on RAW or TNA and the music for my favorite wrestler to cheer (or boo) hits. It gets me involved right away and definitely grabs my attention. Ring of Honor does a great job of this in real life as they always seem to have one of the bigger stars kick off their shows.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

I agree, it's always good to start with a hot match to get the crowd into it.
