Snabbit888Posted on 07/13/07 at 10:53:39

Welcome to the Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida as we are LIVE on pay-per-view for Beat Your Valentine! What a huge night this is shaping up to be, with 8 big matches and 3 titles on the line! World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will have the deck stacked against him as he defends his title against Lance Storm with both an injured knee AND special referee, Storm's World Tag Team champion partner Edge! The Intercontinental Title is also up for grabs as Kurt Angle defends against John Bradshaw Layfield and Randy Orton in a triple threat match! And X champion Christopher Daniels puts the gold on the line against Elix Skipper in a rematch from Winter Warfare! Let's not waste anymore time and get this show underway!

Match #1
Rhyno vs. Booker T (w/ Sharmell)
Our show kicked off with recent turncoat Booker T taking on Rhyno. Booker showed his true colors last week by showing that his turn on former tag team partner Rey Mysterio Jr. was a set up with Sharmell all along, and that he is simply a greedy and selfish man. Rhyno has taken exception to this and wanted to put Booker in his place. Rhyno came at Booker like the animal he is, keeping Booker reeling for most of this match. But Booker and Sharmell have shown that whatever it takes to get ahead, they will do. Sharmell showed this by jumping up on the apron and when Rhyno came after her to get her away, she fell to the floor and apparently hurt her ankle. Referee Chad Patton jumped down to check on her, allowing Booker to nail Rhyno with a low blow. Sharmell had a miraculous recovery and one Axe Kick later, Booker T had won the opening contest of Beat Your Valentine.

Booker T pinned Rhyno with the Axe Kick in 0:07:53.

LANCE STORM & EDGE GET SOME BAD NEWS
Backstage, #1 contender Lance Storm was back with Edge (adorned in a referee's shirt) and Edge's brothel of women - Lita, Mickie James, and Gail Kim. Storm was very deadpan as usual, but Edge was ecstatic, pumped that they would be able to add the World Heavyweight Title to the World Tag Team Titles they already hold. The pre-celebration was cut short though when Commissioner TOMMY DREAMER entered and said that Edge had better call the match right down the middle or else he and Storm would be stripped of the tag titles. As Dreamer left, the expression on Edge's face showed that he wasn't nearly as confident as he was just moments before. Storm's expression, of course, remained unchanged.

Match #2
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Frankie "The Future" Kazarian vs. "Bulldog" Harry Smith
Chris Benoit made this match for himself and his two protégés in order to teach them a lesson, and although the match was short, he took them to school. Benoit lit up both Kazarian and Smith with a series of brutal chops and suplexes, not giving either man much room to breathe. After a couple minutes of a beating, Kazarian and Smith realized they were going to have to work together if they wanted to make it through this match in one piece. They used some great tandem offense to keep the Rabid Wolverine at bay, but Benoit fought back by dumping Kazarian to the floor with a backdrop when the Future charged at him. Benoit turned to Smith, but the Bulldog caught him by surprise with a small package and out of nowhere, he had pinned the former World champion!

Harry Smith defeated Chris Benoit and Frankie Kazarian when Smith pinned Benoit after a small package in 0:05:52.
Rating: **

After the match, Benoit was upset at himself for the way that he lost, but he also took the time to congratulate Smith on the victory. Kazarian came in the ring and looked primed to throw a fit, but he surprised us all by offering his hand to Smith and the two shook. It finally looks like they're on the same page.

Match #3
X Title Match
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels © vs. "Prime Time" Elix Skipper
A month ago, Christopher Daniels and Elix Skipper put on a fantastic match that ended inconclusively thanks to an expiring time limit. Prime Time feels if he had been given 5 more minutes, he would have walked out of Winter Warfare as X champion. The Fallen Angel feels that he would have won as well, and both men wanted one more match to prove who the true champion is.

For as good as their match was at Winter Warfare, this match was even better. You can tell when two guys just click. The counters, the counters to counters, the high risk-high reward moves both men executed had the crowd on the edge of their seat (in the few times they were actually sitting). And much like the match from last month, these two were essentially playing a game of "Can you top this?" A game that, also like last month, took them to the time limit with no decisive winner.

Referee Mike Chioda was about to call the match, but both Daniels and Skipper pleaded with him to give them 5 more minutes. The crowd too, wanting to see this classic continue, chanted "FIVE MORE MINUTES!" to which Chioda finally granted. The action picked up as fast and furious as it had been, with Skipper getting the quick advantage and wanting to put this away as quickly as possible. Daniels got out of his attempt for the Play of the Day though, and went for the Angel's Wings. Skipper, however, was able to escape this as well. The battle continued back and forth until Daniels ducked a huge clothesline attempt and was able to plant Prime Time with the Angel's Wings, giving him the decisive victory in overtime.

Christopher Daniels pinned Elix Skipper with the Angel's Wings in 0:23:20.
Rating: *****
(Christopher Daniels retained the GCW X Title.)

Daniels and Skipper were given a well-deserved standing ovation for their efforts.

MNM GET THWARTED FOR THEIR TITLE SHOT... AGAIN
Tommy Dreamer received some not-so-unexpected guests back in his office as Johnny Nitro, Shannon Moore, and Melina - MNM - entered the room, and as par usual, demanded a World Tag Team Title shot, this time at Proving Ground. Dreamer was quick to cut them off, letting them know that the World's Greatest Tag Team has already been given the match against Lance Storm and Edge (barring Storm doesn't win the World Heavyweight Title tonight). Dreamer also made mention of the fact that MNM had their chance this past Monday and didn't pull through. Melina said that it was a triangle match and thus, not fair circumstances, but Dreamer was having none of it, saying MNM would have to earn another shot. As you would expect, MNM took this exceptionally well. And by "well" I mean "through a tantrum, made some idle threats, and stormed off."

Match #4
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Kid Kash (w/ Lance Hoyt)
Kid Kash has all but lost it thanks to the antics of Shark Boy and D-Ray 3000, and when he was forced to dress as a shrimp a month ago, he absolutely lost it and left AJ Styles laid out. Hence the reasoning for this match. Styles has a legitimate claim that if Elix Skipper and Kash weren't involved, he may be X champion tonight after last Monday, but things as they are, he is not, and a win here would help cement his chance at a rematch. Much like the X Title match before it, this match was as fast-paced and high impact. The skills in this match were very equally matched, but what Kash had that Styles didn't was Lance Hoyt at ringside. Hoyt tried to get involve late in the contest when Styles had Kash primed for the Styles Clash, jumping up on the apron. Styles saw him and dropkicked him off, followed by a suicide dive that wiped Kash's large insurance policy out. However, as Styles was getting back into the ring, Kash kicked the second rope up, essentially giving Styles a legal low blow. Kash quickly rolled Styles up, and with his feet on the ropes, this one was in the books.

Kid Kash pinned AJ Styles with a rollup in 0:07:30.
Rating: ****

JBL SPEAKS BEFORE THE IC TITLE MATCH
Before we got to the triple threat match for the Intercontinental Title, John Bradshaw Layfield, one of the challengers, had a few words. JBL kept it short, sweet, and intense saying that the nonsense ends tonight and that Kurt Angle and Randy Orton would be taken care of and despite all the crap he's had to go through the past few weeks, he would be the new Intercontinental champion.

Match #5
Intercontinental Title Match
Kurt Angle © vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (w/ Lamont) vs. Randy Orton
When you put three of the most talented and controversial wrestlers in the same ring at the same time, you're bound to get a great match out of it. But I don't think we were expecting THIS great of a match. Intercontinental champion Kurt Angle, John Bradshaw Layfield, and Randy Orton all despise each other, and they used that distain to put on, in my opinion, one of the best matches we've ever seen in Global Championship Wrestling. All three had on their working shoes, and we saw three men doing whatever it took to capture the prestigious Intercontinental Title. There was too much action in this match to call, as this classic went on for over a half an hour before reaching its apex. JBL had previously been wiped out by an Angle Slam through the announce table, and as he went on the attack on Orton, it looked like this one was going to securely in the bag as a successful title defense when he locked on the dreaded Ankle Lock. To Orton's credit though, he refused to submit, seemingly choosing possible severe injury over tapping out. He wouldn't have to tap out as JBL, who had largely been forgotten about, came out of nowhere and obliterated Angle with the Stock Market Crash, causing Angle to roll out of the ring. JBL actually would then help Orton to his feet, telling him they should continue to work together in order to make sure Angle's out of the picture, but instead, he blasted Orton with the Stock Market Crash as well, picking up the pinfall and his first taste of GCW championship gold.

John Bradshaw Layfield defeated Randy Orton and Kurt Angle when JBL pinned R. Orton with the Stock Market Crash in 0:31:09.
Rating: *****
(John Bradshaw Layfield won the GCW Intercontinental Title.)

Match #6
"The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam vs. CM Punk (w/ Daffney)
CM Punk has never fully explained his series of attack on RVD, at least not in detail, and knowing Punk, I doubt he ever will. At this point, I don't even think RVD cared anymore - he just knew he wanted a shot to rip Punk's head off. He had that chance as they met one more time in what proved to be a great match. RVD surprised a lot of people by adapting to CM Punk's mat style, staying with Punk move-for-move and occasionally outwrestling him all together. Of course as time wore on in the match though, RVD's ego got the better of him as he tried to wrestle with Punk for too long, and Punk took full control. Punk systematically wore RVD down, but if the Whole F'n Show has shown one thing, it is his innate ability to take a beating and come back for more. Punk showed some frustration, which is something we have rarely seen from him in GCW. This frustration gave RVD an opening to regain the offensive, and with a German suplex out of nowhere, gain a victory. Hopefully this one will be able to move on without any more incidents.

Rob Van Dam pinned CM Punk after a German suplex in 0:08:50.
Rating: **** 1/4

Match #7
Abyss vs. Bobby Lashley
Though a lot of you wrestling purist would frown upon this match, there's something to be said about watching two raging bulls go at each other full throttle like we did when Abyss and Bobby Lashley went one-on-one. These two have been tearing each other apart at every turn ever since Winter Warfare, and it all culminated with their match here tonight. I don't know what can really be said about this match other than it was ugly and it was brutal. Referee Chad Patton have a hell of a time keeping this under control, but he made a good call and let these two fight without stopping the match (even when they were taking a very liberal interpretation of the rules). Though Abyss took Lashley closer to the edge than anyone, Lashley still couldn't be taken down as he ducked away from the Black Hole Slam and nearly split Abyss in half with a spear, followed by a very impressive Dominator to get the clean pinfall over Abyss, a feat which doesn't happen often.

Bobby Lashley pinned Abyss with the Dominator in 0:09:41.

IS BROCK LESNAR WORRIED?
Just moments before our main event, Maria interviewed World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in the back, asking him if he was worried about Edge being the special referee for his match against Lance Storm. Lesnar was very focused, saying it didn't matter who was the referee, because when Storm was planted into the ring with the F-5 and completely devastated, Edge would have no choice but to count the three and when it was all said and done, Brock Lesnar would be leaving as the World Heavyweight champion.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
World Heavyweight Title Match
Special Referee: Edge
Brock Lesnar © vs. Lance Storm
On paper, this seems like the type of match that reigning World champion Brock Lesnar would be able to use his raw strength and power to dominate. However, Lance Storm is a crafty individual and a seasoned veteran, not to mention the fact that Edge may be the most crooked referee to ever officiate a match. Edge made it a point to give Storm every advantage possible. He would slow count when Lesnar would make a cover (and I'm talking sloooooooooow) and fast count when Storm would do the same. Lesnar almost lost the title on several occasions early just based on the speed of Edge's counts. When Lesnar was finally getting back on the advantage and tossing Storm around the ring, Edge was losing control and unable to find any way within his position as referee to slow the champ down. Out of desperation, Edge out-and-out broke the referee code (like he was following it anyway) and stopped Lesnar with the Spear, laying him out. Storm and Edge saw Lesnar down and out, and Storm wanted to capitalize right away and make the pin (he is a serious competitor after all). But Edge wanted to milk the moment, and for no reason whatsoever, was making a ridiculously slow count to "add to the drama." Well, this adding of drama also added time, which gave MONTY BROWN plenty of time to get to the ring and go on the attack. Edge jumped out of the ring before the Alpha Male could get to him, but Brown did get Storm, dropping him with a powerslam. Edge tried to sneak up on Brown and hit the Spear, but the Alpha Male got out of the way and sent Edge crashing into the turnbuckle, followed by the Pounce! Meanwhile, Lesnar picked Storm up and hit the F-5, and Monty Brown grabbed Edge's lifeless hand and forced him to make the 3 count, giving Brock Lesnar a successful title defense.

Match with Special Referee Edge:
Brock Lesnar pinned Lance Storm with the F-5 in 0:11:14.
Rating: ** ¾
(Brock Lesnar retained the GCW World Heavyweight Title.)

The show came to an end with Lesnar and Brown standing tall as the World Tag Team champions left nursing their wounds.

Outstanding card, especially with two ***** matches.

Edge certainly did not call it down the middle... I can look forward to them being stripped of the tag titles. I don't like Abyss losing to Lashley... but what can you do?
shapyPosted on 07/14/07 at 08:58:18

i like the title, beat your valentine, a lot. booker is better as a heel anyway, so no surprise he's on a roll, but i'm sure rey will get his revenge. love to see more RVD-punk matches. overall, really good.
