WCW Monday Nitro 7/10/00

MattHarmsPosted on 07/10/07 at 17:29:57

No Intro. WCW Championship Commitee Representative Terry Taylor is in the ring to kick things off. Last night, at Bash at the Beach, the WCW World Title was degraded by the actions of several men. The title, dating back to 1905, has been held by many great men. From Frank Gotch to Lou Thesz to Ric Flair to Bill Goldberg, each men has brought pride to the WCW World Title. Last night, that valuable reputation was soiled and the man who won last night walked out of the building with the former WCW World Championship. However, a new belt is being created and a new champion can be crowned. The WCW executive commitee has looked long and hard and has found sixteen of the top wrestlers in the world, who will compete in a Round Robin Style Tournament. The Tournament that will begin next week on Monday Nitro. Terry Taylor begins to read the list of contenders, which is as follows:

Kevin Nash
Bill Goldberg
Scott Steiner
Lance Storm
Booker T
WCW United States Champion Mike Awesome
Buff Bagwell
Positively Kanyon
Shane Douglas
Vampiro
Tank Abbott
Billy Kidman
WCW Hardcore Champion Big Vito
General Hugh G. Rection
Either Brian Adams or Bryan Clark of the WCW Tag Team Champions Kronik

Taylor says that the sixteenth man is an International Superstar known the world over to World Championship Wrestling but before Taylor can get out his name, the music of Jeff Jarrett kicks up and out comes the former WCW World Champion. Jarrett yells at Taylor, saying that he lost the WCW World Title last night, he should be given his belt back, there shouldn't even be in the tournament, and even if there should be one, it is bullshit that the Chosen One is not in the tournament. Taylor talks about how conspricy between Jeff Jarrett and Vince Russo has brought shame to the WCW World Title so Russo is suspended without pay from his backstage duties and Jarrett has been removed from the tournament. However, Taylor will give Jarrett a fair chance to enter the tournament, as he will face the sixteenth International Superstar tonight on Nitro! Jarrett turns around and GETS GREEN MIST SPIT IN HIS EYES! Jarrett runs around, blinded and the camera pans back to see the International Star...The Great Muta. What, who were you expecting...El Dandy?

WCW World Tag Team Title Match
The Misfits in Action(Corporal Cajun and General Hugh. G. Rection) face off against the defending champions, Kronik

General Hugh. G. Rection and one half of Kronik are two of the men who will compete in the WCW World Title Tournament. Corporal Cajun gets tossed around like a ragdoll but Shawn Stasiak and Chuck Palubmo come out and attack both teams, drawing the disqualification win for Kronik!

Out comes Kevin Nash, who is pissed off! He says Scott Steiner told him to stay out of his match last night and when Steiner lost, he had to find someone to blame. If it wasn't for that lead pipe to the ribs, Scott Hall would be standing here right beside him and the greatest tag team in wrestling history, the Outsiders, would run roughshot over WCW once again. "Welcome to the Dog Pound" Out comes Rick Steiner. Steiner says the Outsiders were not the greatest tag team in wrestling, that belongs to the Steiner Brothers. Rick says Nash is big at running his mouth when Scotty isn't in the buidling so the Dogface Gremlin challenges Nash to a match later tonight on Nitro. Nash accepts and says he is going to show the other fifteen men in the WCW World Title Tournament what will happen to them when they step into the ring with Big Sexy.

Three On One Elimination Handicap Match for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship:
The Filthy Animals(Disco Inferno, Juventud Guerrera, and Rey Misterio Jr) vs Lt. Loco(c)

Unfortunately, this match was signed by Vince Russo before he was suspended. Loco, being the fighting champion, went with the fact, despite the WCW executive commitee offering to change it to a one on one match against any of the Cruiserweight members of the Filthy Animals. Disco goes after Loco at the bell but Loco dropkicks Disco, takes him down, and delivers an Oklahoma Side Roll for a quick pin. Rey and Juvi enter the ring, and quickly double team the champion! Juvi accidentally clocks Rey and Loco delivers a quick German Suplex for the pin. That leaves Rey and Loco one on one for the Cruiserweight Title. Both of these men trade a series of impressive moves, with Rey nearly winning the title on a couple of close nearfalls but a Springboard Rana is reversed into a power bomb and Chavo leaps to the top rope, connecting with a huge vertical leap into a swinging DDT to put Rey down for the three!

He mentions that everyone is talking about how they are going to win the WCW World Title Tournament but Storm is going to show everyone in the ring!

Shane Helms(w/Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore) squares off against Lance Storm

Thank Bob we finally have a competent booker for this talent pool.

I watched the slow train wreck that was WCW up until the bitter end, because I never liked the WWF/E's plodding spotfest style, musclebound freak fetish, or arch-conservative political stances.  At the time, I couldn't get any other wrestling on tv besides The Big Two.

Will you be doing Saturday Night, Pro, and Worldwide too? Or will I have to go elsewhere for my dose of Rick Fuller, Mark Starr, Bobby Walker, and The State Patrol?
:P

i second that. this era of wcw was just, i don't know, in a downward spiral, but you pull it off very nice. oh my god, i forgot about that bafoon, ralphus. hahaha

I like the idea, but wouldn't a 16 man Round Robin take MONTHS to finish? Or is that the whole idea?
MattHarmsPosted on 07/11/07 at 17:17:00

To answer a couple of questions:

Yes, WCW Saturday Night will happen at the very least. I was pissed when Russo had it turned into a recap show and then it was cancelled a few months later. I need a show at the very least, to groom a few future stars who wouldn't be ready for Nitro or Thunder at any rate and Hacksaw Jim Duggan's glorious Saturday Night exclusive reign of WCW Television Champion naturally has to continue along with some of my old WCW Saturday Night exclusive favorites.

Yes, the idea for the Sixteen Man Round Robin Tournament it to stretch it out for months, mostly to give WCW a long term storyline. The finals should be at Halloween Havoc at the end of October.

Jarrett turns around and GETS GREEN MIST SPIT IN HIS EYES!
Everyone should know I have a soft spot for Muta and that right there has already caused me to be won over my your circuit.  :)
