Match observations:
Tonight was truly a historic night for the Championship Wrestling Alliance. Both the World Heavyweight and North American Tag Team Championships were decided tonight in amazing fashion. Every match was jam packed with drama that you will only be able to find in the CWA. Perhaps the biggest non-championship related news item that happened tonight was the devastating injury that Chris Jericho suffered at the hands of Tito Ortiz in their first round match up. Jericho was holding his own with the man that has absolutely demolished everyone put in front of him in a CWA ring so far. Jericho went at Ortiz with a kick to the head but he caught his leg and drove his elbow right down on Y2J's knee. Jericho's leg bent the wrong way and he immediately collapsed to the canvas. Referee Sean Traverson called for the bell and motioned for EMTs to attend to Jericho. Ortiz had to be restrained by security as he kept attacking a fallen Jericho. Something in Ortiz absolutely snapped tonight.

Due to his heinous actions, the Championship Committee suspended Ortiz for the night, effectively giving either Edge or CM Punk an easy route to the finals. A clearly focused Edge brought the fight to CM Punk from the second the bell rang. Several times it looked as if Edge would prevail but each time CM Punk just narrowly escaped being hit with the Spear. Towards the end of the match AJ Styles came to ring side. CM Punk distracted referee Greg Rehmann long enough for AJ to hit Edge in the back with a steel chair. Edge was out cold but CM Punk locked in the Anaconda Vice that Edge was forced to submit to.

AJ Styles wasn't done as he had a match with Jeff Hardy. These two popular high fliers went at it tooth and nail. Jeff uncharacteristically used some nefarious tactics including low blows and eye rakes. AJ prevailed after finally hitting his Styles Clash. After the match he was visibly perturbed with the way Jeff fought the match. Jeff simply told Styles that it is all about the Heavyweight Title and he will do anything to win it.

Due to the fact that Tito Ortiz was disqualified from the tournament because of his actions against Chris Jericho, the winner of the Randy Orton/Bryan Danielson match would have to turn around and fight again against AJ Styles with no break in between. Orton was able to get by Bryan Danielson with relative ease but he had his work cut out for him against a still agitated AJ Styles. Orton was on defense most of the match. The end of the match saw Rick Dixon get knocked out by an errant AJ Styles dropkick. Styles caught Orton with a Styles Clash and had the match won but Edge hit the ring and pasted Styles with a Spear as he got up to try and revive the referee. Edge put Orton on top of AJ and watched from the aisle as Dixon slowly made the three count.

The semi-main event saw Generation NEXT and The New South battle for the right to be called the first North American Tag Team Titles. Of course, Jason Cross pinned Austin Aries on Wednesday night in the 8 man tag main event match. History repeated itself tonight as Jason Cross stole the first fall of the match with his Crossfire shooting star legdrop. The New South stayed on the offensive using frequent tags to keep an injured Austin Aries in the ring. Rave and Cross looked like grizzled pros as they cut the ring in half and really isolated Aries. A Jimmy Rave miscue allowed an opening for Aries to tag in Roderick Strong. Initially, Strong was a house of fire but again Rave and Cross were able to cool him off. Jimmy Rave went for a brainbuster but Strong countered it with a small package to steal the second fall! At this point, the match degenerated into an all out brawl. All four men were standing in the ring exchanging punches. A series of near falls scored by both teams eventually culminated with a huge Roderick Strong powerslam on Jimmy Rave to win the third fall and the CWA North American Tag Team Titles!

Finally, it was time for the main event. Prior to the match, the CWA Championship Committee decided that the first World Heavyweight Champion needed to be a warrior and, as such, should win it in similar fashion. Because of this, the match was changed to an Iron Man Match with a 30 minute time limit. CM Punk instantly became the favorite due to the fact that he only had one match while Randy Orton already fought two. The match had a long feeling out process as Orton wisely stayed away from Punk and his impressive offensive arsenal. Punk steadily took over the match and twenty minutes into it, he had Orton locked in the Anaconda Vice. Orton got to the rope after being locked in the hold for close to a minute. Several moments later Orton was again locked in the Vice and again he made the ropes. Punk became visibly frustrated due to Orton's resilience and began making mistakes. We all know that it only takes one mistake for Orton to capitalize and he did just that when he nailed the RKO with 30 seconds left in the match. He scored the first and only pin fall at 29:32 to become the very first CWA World Heavyweight Champion. Punk sat in the corner of the ring in disbelief as he watched Randy Orton celebrate with the strap. Edge came down to congratulate his partner...and remind him that if it wasn't for the Rated R Superstar AJ Styles would've beaten him 1-2-3. It should be interesting to see just how long these two will be able to co-exist.

This coming Wednesday two major matches have been signed: The new World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton and Edge will team up against AJ Styles and CM Punk and The New South will challenge Generation NEXT for the North American Tag Team Titles. Be sure to tune in this Wednesday for Showdown!

That was an impressive pay per view debut for CWA. Tough break (no pun intended) about Chris Jericho but it makes Tito Ortiz look more like the badass he is.

I also like how you decided your promotion's champions with a 2 out of 3 falls match for the North American Tag Team Titles and the Iron Man Match for the World Title. It definitely establishes CWA as having worthy champions.

The finish to the Iron Man Match was great too. Was that booked? Randy Orton will make for a great champion and CM Punk will make for a great challenger.

I booked the match for Orton to hit the RKO at 28:00 minute even so that it would leave a small window open for CM Punk to tie up the match. The spot didn't go through until 29:30 mark or so. I wish I would've saved the move by move account because this was one of the best TNM matches I've seen with my own eyes in a long time. It was actually pretty compelling. Lesson learned.
