New Age Wrestling PPV #2: 6/16/07...

mamushiPosted on 06/15/07 at 21:49:39

Welcome once again to the NAW on PPV!  Last week was a big week as Sting won the World title and tonight promises to be big too as we will crown the United States champion in a 4-corners elimination match where the participants will be drawn at random later tonight.  Plus we've got the battle of two hulking behemoths of the NAW as Akebono faces Brock Lesnar in singles action and we've got plenty of other great matches lined up this evening so lets get down to the ring to get things started.

The Sandman vs. "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner

It's a good thing that the ref was a little on the lenient side in this match because both men could've easily been DQed several times.  Sandman for just being Sandman and Steiner more so than usual for trying to match and then step up the Sandman.  Sandman did manage to get some good offense in but Steiner powered through and eventually locked on the Steiner Recline.  Sandman refused to give up though and eventually passed out in the hold.

Scott Steiner defeated The Sandman when The Sandman passed out in the Steiner Recliner in 0:13:36.
Rating: ** 3/4

After the match Mark Henry and Raven joined Scott Steiner in the ring and the three men put the boots to the Sandman, beating the living hell out of him and leaving him a bloody mess.  Raven grabs a microphone and tells the fans that they just made an example out of the Sandman.  Thats what every man that stands in their way is in for.

"Jumpin" Jimmy Jacobs & Troy Lords vs. The South Central Gangsters (Rodney Mack & Hernandez)

Poor Jimmy Jacobs and Troy Lords were just out powered tonight.  Rodney Mack and Hernandez just kept on them, never letting them get a breath.  It basically was a gang beating with more wrestling moves.  Hernandez launched Jacobs with the Border Toss giving the South Central Gangsters a decisive win.

The South Central Gangsters (Rodney Mack and Hernandez) defeated Jimmy Jacobs and Troy Lords when Hernandez pinned J. Jacobs with the Border Toss in 0:4:46.

Backstage we see Finlay warming up.  Robert Roode and Ms. Brooks walk in and greet Finlay, who is, as always, a bit stand offish.  Robert says to calm down because he's here on business.  He wants to hire Finlay as his new tag team partner provided Finlay can offer a better performance than Elix Skipper did last week.  Finlay tells Roode that he's damn right he can give a better showing than that pipsqueak, but it's going to cost Roode.  Robert asks Ms. Brooks to tell Finlay their offer and then Ms. Brooks whispers in his ear.  Finlay grins and says that'll do nicely.

Ron "The Truth" Killings vs. Senshi

These two battled pretty evenly throughout the match but as the match wore on it seemed like Killings was getting better at predicting Senshi's next move and was able to counter and reverse a lot more, which frustrated Senshi and caused him to make more mistakes.  Killings blocked a kick from Senshi and countered with a kick to the midsection and the Truth Conviction for the win.

Ron Killings pinned Senshi with the Truth Conviction in 0:09:16.
Rating: **** 3/4

After the match Senshi was furious.  He grabbed a microphone and said that his loss tonight was a fluke and that Ron Killings got lucky.  Senshi continues on to say that someday, someday soon he's going to be in the main event scene battling for the world title.

The Highlanders (Robbie & Rory McAlister) vs. Los Sexy Boys (Latin Lover & Heavy Metal)

Los Sexy Boys did a good job of keeping the Highlanders on their toes with their lucha libre background, giving them more time on the offensive than the defensive, but the Highlanders hung in there.  Latin Lover tried to wrap up the match with the Patada del Cabrito, but Rory ducked and managed to hit the Hotscot Slingshot for three.

The Highlanders (Robbie McAlister and Rory McAlister) defeated Los Sexy Boys (Latin Lover and Heavy Metal) when Rory pinned L. Lover with the Hotscot Slingshot in 0:06:48.

Mark "The Hammer" Coleman vs. Chase Stevens

Chase Stevens could be considered to be at somewhat of an advantage, because while Mark Coleman is a legendary MMA fighter, skilled at submissions and a powerhouse hitter, he's still seems to have not totally adapted to the world of professional wrestling, especially against high flying opponents.  Which is why Stevens probably lasted as long as he did tonight.  Mark Coleman however is Mark Coleman and caught Chase with a vicious punch that dazed Stevens.  Stevens threw a wild swing while dazed and Coleman caught him in a Fujiwara armbar, forming Chase to submit almost immediately.

Mark Coleman made Chase Stevens submit to a Fujiwara armbar in 0:12:22.

One of the referees stands at the top of the entrance with a microphone and a bingo tumbler.  He spins the tumbler and pulls out 4 balls, one by one and reads of the names:  Gronda... Elix Skipper... Rey Misterio... and Rob Van Dam!  There you have it, the four men that will battle it out in tonight's main event for the United States title!

The Briscoe Brothers (Mark & Jay) vs. Robert Roode (w/Ms. Brooks) & Finlay

Finlay made good on his promise tonight to Roode that he'd put on a better showing than Skipper did last week as Roode's partner.  As smooth of a team as the Briscoe's are when it comes to wrestling, Finlay pretty much turned this into an Irish pub fight, which of course is his specialty.  Roode looked very pleased from the apron while Finlay was in the ring slugging it out with the Briscoes.  He banged the boy's heads together causing Mark to tumble out of the ring and hit Jay with the Celtic Cross for three.

Robert Roode and Finlay defeated The Briscoe Bros. (Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe) when Finlay pinned J. Briscoe with the Celtic Cross in 0:08:15.

Akebono vs. "The Million Dollar Prospect" Brock Lesnar (w/Ted DiBiase)

This match wasn't the prettiest of matches, but it was two of the biggest men in NAW battling it out.  Each man managed to show exactly how powerful they are and it was an impressive sight.  At one point Lesnar hit the Verdict amazingly, but Akebono kicked out and neither DiBiase nor Lesnar could believe it.  Akebono managed to hit the 64 as well, but also came up short on the count to everyone's surprise.  Finally, Lesnar was able to get the giant Akebono up again and hit the Verdict a second time.  Thankfully for Lesnar that was enough to get the three, because it looked like all that was left in the tank went into getting Akebono up a second time.

Brock Lesnar pinned Akebono with the Verdict in 0:15:12.

Someone is shown backstage.  You can't see their face, but they say that the first couple weeks of any federation is like a test area.  You're trying to figure out if it works or what changes you can make to the line up to make it work.  He says that next week the NAW will leave beta tester... and enter version one!  The screen fades to black and "V.1" fades in.

Main Event for the NAW United States Championship: Rey Misterio vs. "The Whole F'N Show" Rob Van Dam vs. Elix Skipper vs. Gronda

Quite a lucky draw for Misterio, RVD and Skipper tonight as while they are excellent wrestlers, all came up short last week.  Gronda on the other hand, won his match last week against Jimmy Jacobs and won it quickly with his powerful spear.  The same spear which would cause the first elimination tonight.  RVD seemed to be the early favorite keeping most of the control over everyone with his unique offense, but Gronda caught him out of no where with the spear, taking RVD out of the match.  Next Gronda took out Skipper, but Misterio tagged himself in and the two luchadores put on quite a show (despite Gronda's style not being the traditional flashy luchadore like Misterio)  Misterio leap frogged Gronda's attempt at the spear causing him to crash head first into the turnbuckle sending him stumbling back.  Misterio hit a dropkick to knock him down and quickly followed it by Droppin' the Dime to eliminate Gronda.  During that time Skipper had been regaining his strength and was ready to go full speed at Misterio.  After a quick exchange Misterio hit the 619 and tried for the West Coast Pop, but Skipper caught him and hit the Sudden Death to wrap up the match and become the first NAW United States Champion!

[Main Event]: Four Corners Match for the vacant NAW United States Championship title:
Elix Skipper defeated Rob Van Dam, Rey Misterio and Gronda:
x Gronda beat RVD via the Spear in 0:10:33
x Misterio beat Gronda via the Droppin' the Dime in 0:18:48
x Prime Time beat Misterio via the Sudden Death in 0:20:44
Rating: ** 3/4
(Elix Skipper won the NAW United States Championship title.)

What a great night of wrestling!  We've got a new United States Champion in Elix Skipper, which has to serve as some vindication for what Roode said last week about Skipper being a loser.  And Lesnar came out on top over Akebono in a match that very easily could've gone either way.

That wraps it up for another night here at NAW.  Next week we'll crown out final champions, the tag team champions.  The opening brackets will be the Highlanders vs. Robert Roode & Finlay and Jimmy Jacobs & Troy Lords vs. The Naturals.  Also Sting will defend his world title against the man he eliminated to win it, Manabu Nakanishi and Elix Skipper will defend his US title against Jerry Lynn and Senshi and Akebono will try to avenge their losses this week as Lesnar & Senshi take on Akebono & Ron Killings.  We hope to see you there!

Good start to your new circuit. You have an interesting mix of characters that aren't used much. I also have to mark out knowing you have Gronda under contract. I like the mixture of wrestling styles that you have going too.
mamushiPosted on 06/15/07 at 23:44:19

I took 10 random wrestlers and then handpicked 20 so that it wasn't too much of a mismatch of characters, but I'd still have some guys that I'd have to work with no matter what, which was one of the things I liked about GLWF (or any circuit i've ever done for that matter), I had a little control over who I could bring in, but I also had guys that I had to work with.
