New Age Wrestling PPV #1: 6/9/07...

mamushiPosted on 06/15/07 at 01:21:39

With GLWF on indefinate hiatus, I've tried a couple different times to start a new TNM project with absolutely no success.  I finally broke down and started a circuit with Matt Harm's TNA rules just for the hell of it and ended up liking the results enough to put effort into it.  I hate using rulesets usually (Though I don't actually hate rulesets like Ryan :) ) but I decided that some sort of creative product was better than none at all because it was driving me crazy not being able to crank anything out.  Anyway, here's the NAW...

[hr]

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the debut of New Age Wrestling!  We're coming to you live from Chicago, Illinois and we have a packed house to get us started here tonight.  We've managed to get some big names in the wrestling world under contract and hope to bring you a big, exciting night of professional wrestling and at the end of the evening we'll crown the very first NAW World Heavyweight champion in a 12-man over the top battle royal!  Lets get right down to the action.

Akebono, Sting & "The Whole F'N Show" Rob Van Dam vs. "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner, Raven & "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry

Our opening match contained some big names in the world of wrestling.  Steiner, Raven and Henry worked surprisingly well together.  They kept Rob Van Dam's unique offense at a minimum and managed to hold the veteran Sting at bay too.  They had a little trouble with the shear size and power of Akebono though when the referee lost control at the end.  But Steiner and Henry managed to get Sting and Akebono out of the ring and in all the commotion Raven managed to catch RVD by surprise with the Raven Effect for the three count.

Scott Steiner, Raven and Mark Henry defeated Akebono, Sting and Rob Van Dam when Raven pinned Sting with the Raven Effect in 0:08:32.
Rating: * 1/2

Backstage we see Ted DiBiase and his Million Dollar Prospect Brock Lesnar walking through the hall, he bumps shoulders with Mark Coleman and the two have a stare down.  Lesnar and Coleman exchange a few unfriendly words about who will come out on top in tonight's battle royal for the title.  DiBiase steps in and tells Coleman that there is a reason that Brock Lesnar is the Million Dollar Prospect.  It's because he's got it all in the ring and Coleman isn't worth the paper his paychecks are printed on.

Troy Lords vs. Senshi

There isn't a lot to say about this match except that Senshi dominated in impressive form.  Using flashy moves and martial arts to keep Lords from getting in virtually any offense.  Senshi put Lords out of his misery with the Warrior's Way.

Senshi pinned Troy Lords with the Warrior's Way in 0:06:40.
Rating: *** 1/4

Robert Roode and Ms. Brooks walk into into Elix Skipper's dressing room where he's lacing up his boots.  Robert Roode tells Skipper he has a proposition for him.  He'd like to hire Skipper to be his partner tonight against the Highlanders.  Skipper agrees to Roode's terms and the two seem pretty confident of a win.

Jerry Lynn & The Sandman vs. The Naturals (Andy Douglas & Chase Stevens) vs. Los Sexy Boys (Latin Lover & Heavy Metal)

This match was pretty fast paced with a lot of quick tags and quicker exchanges.  Even the Sandman was keeping up, though with his own style of offense and not the more high flying offense of the rest of the men involved in the match.  Lynn managed to his Andy Douglas with the Cradle Piledriver at one point, but Chase Stevens broke up the pin.  They'd get their revenge though as Heavy Metal and Latin Lover dove to the outside with simultaneous planchas only to catch the Sandman and air as Chase Stevens ducked out of the way and entered the ring where he and Douglas hit Lynn with the Natural Disaster for the win.

Triangle Match:
The Naturals (Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens) defeated Los Sexy Boys (Latin Lover and Heavy Metal) and The Sandman and Jerry Lynn when A. Douglas pinned J. Lynn after the Natural Disaster in 0:11:58.
Rating: ** 1/2

"Jumpin" Jimmy Jacobs vs. "La Gargola" Gronda

Jimmy Jacobs didn't stand a chance against Gronda tonight.  It was all Gronda and at just about the one minute mark, when Jacobs ducked a clothesline from Gronda and it looked like he might get a chance at some offense Gronda came back with the spear for the pin.

Gronda pinned Jimmy Jacobs with the Spear in 0:01:03.
Rating: DUD

Raven, Scott Steiner and Mark Henry are all backstage together.  Raven says that while they may not like each other very much or at all, and while they may have similar goals which will cross their paths in the future, tonight they clicked.  Raven suggests a temporary alliance between the three as it'll make all of their lives easier and bring them closer to their common goal that much faster, then they can worry about which of them will be the champion after they've eliminated everyone else from contention.

The Highlanders (Robbie & Rory McAlister) vs. Robert Roode & Elix Skipper

Roode has a good idea tonight.  He got himself into a tag match and then hired the man that he thought would make the best partner to team with him.  His choice?  Elix Skipper.  A talented wrestler by any definition of the word.  Unfortunately, especially in the world of tag team wrestling you can take two men who are great singles wrestlers, put them together and they'll stink up the joint.  Too bad for Roode that's what happened tonight.  The Highlanders are a well oiled tag machine while Roode and Skipper couldn't find their groove and it cost them.  Cost them a loss after Rory nailed Prime Time with a spinebuster after accidentally knocking Roode off the apron.

The Highlanders (Robbie McAlister and Rory McAlister) defeated Robert Roode and Elix Skipper when Rory pinned Prime Time after a spinebuster slam in 0:10:31.

After the match an angry Roode gets on the microphone and publicly fires Elix Skipper, saying that next week he'll find a partner that isn't a worthless piece of crap.

The Briscoe Brothers (Mark & Jay) vs. The South Central Gangsters (Rodney Mack & Hernandez)

Mark and Jay, the Briscoe Brothers, were giving up a lot of size to the Rodney Mack and Hernandez tonight.  They managed to hold their own with this speed and cunning, but it seemed to always end the same for them.  Running into a roadblock that knocked them off their feet and throwing the offense back to the Gangsters.  Jay had a good string of moves going at the end of the match. Mark came in to try and help his brother, but Rodney Mack quickly came in and put a stop to it.  He tossed Mark to the outside, allowing Hernandez to get control back and hit the Border Toss.

The South Central Gangsters (Rodney Mack and Hernandez) defeated The Briscoe Bros. (Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe) when Hernandez pinned J. Briscoe with the Border Toss in 0:07:52.

Main Event 12-Man Battle Royal for the NAW World Heavyweight title: Akebono, Brock Lesnar, Finlay, Manabu Nakanishi, Mark Coleman, Mark Henry, Raven, Rey Misterio, Rob Van Dam, Ron Killings, Scott Steiner & Sting

Misterio started out the match by trying to go for broke and taking out the physically largest man in the battle royal, Akebono.  It didn't work out like he planned and Akebono hiptossed Misterio to the outside fairly quickly.  Steiner was the next to go after being fairly dominant, he stopped to pose letting his ego get the better of him and turned around into a vicious elbow smash from Killings, sending him to the outside.  Coleman and Lesnar were forces to be reckoned with in the opening of the match too.  The Hammer managed to eliminate the World's Strongest man, but Lesnar was out before the 10-minute mark thanks to Akebono.  Ted DiBiase was extremely unhappy with Lesnar and yelled at him all the way to the back.  Akebono got another elimination by throwing out Finlay when Finlay tried to use his shillelagh on him.  Sting did the impossible and eliminated his partner from earlier in the night Akebono.  Manabu Nakanishi hadn't been quite the powerhouse he can be in the battle royal but he got two big eliminations right in a row knocking out RVD and Mark Coleman.  Nakanishi hung back while Sting and Killings duked it out until there was just he and Sting left.  Sting managed to get a quick Scorpion Death Drop after reversing Nakanishi's attempt at getting him into the Argentine Backbreaker and then tossed him out of the ring to win the NAW World Heavyweight title.

[Main Event]: 12-Man Battle Royal for the vacant NAW World Heavyweight Championship title:
Sting won a 12-man Battle Royal:
x Akebono threw out Misterio in 0:00:56
x Killings threw out S. Steiner after an elbow smash in 0:04:13
        x M. Coleman threw out M. Henry in 0:04:36
x Akebono threw out B. Lesnar in 0:07:47
x Akebono threw out Finlay in 0:13:13
x M. Coleman threw out Raven in 0:17:21
x Sting threw out Akebono in 0:21:25
x Nakanishi threw out RVD after an elbowdrop in 0:27:53
x Nakanishi threw out M. Coleman in 0:28:00
x Sting threw out Killings after a superplex in 0:28:28
x Sting threw out Nakanishi after the Scorpion Death Drop in 0:29:51
Rating: ** 3/4
(Sting won the NAW World Heavyweight Championship title.)

Sting may be the first NAW World Heavyweight champion, but many have to be gunning for him now.  Brock Lesnar & Ted DiBiase will obviously be working back towards the title after tonight went horribly awry, we already know the intentions of Raven, Mark Henry and Scott Steiner, Nakanishi will most likely be looking to avenge his elimination and Akebono may be as well if there are any hurt feelings present from going from being teammates to being eliminated by the man that earlier in the evening was on your side of the fence.

Thats it for tonight everyone.  We hope you enjoyed the debut of NAW.  Join us next week when we'll see a 4-way dance to crown the first United States champion featuring 4 men who's names will be drawn at random, and it appears that right after Lesnar's elimination Ted DiBiase was petitioning for his man to get his revenge as the Million Dollar Prospect will be facing Akebono in singles action, plus we'll see the South Central Gangsters, Scott Steiner, The Highlanders and Mark Coleman in action and we'll see who Roode hires as his next partner.  We hope you join us next week for another exciting night of NAW wrestling!

A little baffled with Akebono being there, but eh, you're a weird dude so it all works out.  Decent opener with some big names involved, and Raven gets the win for his team.  Raven rarely sits well with me, but I'll give it time.

Ted DiBiase = awesome.  Very happy to see him here.  VERY happy.  And with Lesnar, that should be sweet.

Senshi dominates Troy Lords (?) as expected.

Some good tag teams there, even though Lynn and Sandman seem a little mismatched.  Regardless, Naturals were my favorite of the match and glad they won.

Ha ha.  Needs more Gronda!  ALL circuits need more Gronda!

Oh Raven... such a schemer.

Aww... poor Skipper.  Roode is a not nice man.  Wonder if Skipper will get REVENGE.

Next tag match didn't do much for me.  Don't really like anyone involved.  Not your fault, though you should always consult me on everything.  Always.

And Sting wins the title, which is a good choice.  He has a ton of star power for a starting circuit, and has lots of feud possibilities.  Good work.

But Akebono?  Yuck. :)
