Wahoo McDaniel suffered a neck injury. He will be out for approximately 4 months.
Rating: * 1/2

The Midnight Express rebounded from their DQ loss against The Rock 'N' Roll Express this week when it counted in their first round tournament match against Wahoo McDaniel and Billy Jack Haynes. Dennis Condrey hit an impressive belly-to-belly suplex on Wahoo McDaniel to get the three count. With the victory, The Midnight Express and The Rock 'N' Roll Express will have a rematch from last week in the semifinals of the NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament.

[NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament - First Round]:
The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers) defeated The Russians (Nikita Koloff and Ivan Koloff) when T. Rogers pinned I. Koloff with the Tomikaze in 0:12:46.
Rating: ** 3/4

The first upset of the tournament happened in this match as The Fantastics, huge underdogs coming into this match, defeat hard-hitting and methodical Russian team of Ivan Koloff and Nikita Koloff. Tommy Rogers hit the Tomikaze on a surprised Ivan Koloff to get the three count before Nikita could break the pin up. After the match, Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton quickly leave the ring before the angry Russians can seek retribution against them.

[NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament - First Round]:
The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Ole Anderson and Arn Anderson) defeated Ronnie Garvin and Manny Fernandez when Anderson pinned M. Fernandez after a crucifix in 0:12:33.
Rating: ** 1/2

This was the kind of result that Ole Anderson was looking for when he turned his back on Thunderbolt Patterson and aligned himself with Arn Anderson to reform The Minnesota Wrecking Crew. The end came when Manny Fernandez went for a lariat but Arn Anderson countered with a crucifix to get the three count. The Minnesota Wrecking Crew advance to face The Fantastics in the next round of the tournament.

Interview:
[Ric Flair is standing by with Tony Schiavone and David Crockett.]

David Crockett: Tony, what a first round of tag team tournament action we've seen so far tonight.

Tony Schiavone: It definitely was exciting, David. The tournament will continue with the semifinals and the finals but at this time I would like to welcome the one and only "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, who will be teaming up with Tully Blanchard to face Dusty Rhodes and Magnum T.A. later tonight. Ric, last week Tully Blanchard helped you defeat your arch rival Dusty Rhodes when he punched him with a fist full of quarters while you distracted the referee. Since when did you start being friendly with Tully Blanchard?

Ric Flair: They say that necessity is the mother of invention. Last week, Tully Blanchard decided to intervene in my match against someone he didn't like in Dusty Rhodes. I can't control what other people do. I certainly can't argue that there are a lot of guys that dislike "dirty" Dusty Rhodes either. However, if they're going to help me, like Tully Blanchard did, I'm not going to stop them. But let me just say this, Tony Schiavone. While I accepted the interference last week, keep in mind that I don't need Tully Blanchard's help to defeat anyone in the National Wrestling Alliance. If you remember to last year, Tully Blanchard got in my business, and I showed him just why I am the dirtiest player in the game. The next time Tully Blanchard gets in my business again, I will make him wish he hadn't.

Tony Schiavone: Tonight, you will team up with Tully Blanchard to face Dusty Rhodes and Magnum T.A. How are you two going to co-exist as a tag team?

Ric Flair: As long as Tully follows my lead, Tony Schiavone, we will come out of the match as winners. It's that simple. So Tully, if you want to rub shoulders with the "Nature Boy", I expect you to rise to my level tonight. Wooooo!

[NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament - Semifinal Match]:
Rock'n'Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) defeated The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton) when R. Morton pinned Condrey with the Rock'n'Roll Buster in 0:06:32.
Rating: 3/4*

The Rock 'N' Roll Express get another victory against The Midnight Express and this time it was with a pinfall and not a disqualification. Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson hit the Rock 'n' Roll Buster on Dennis Condrey to get the three count. You have to believe that Jim Cornette cannot be too pleased with losing to The Rock 'N' Roll Express for the second time in two weeks. The Rock 'N' Roll Express now await the winner of The Fantastics/Minnesota Wrecking Crew semifinal match to see who they will wrestle in the tournament finals for the NWA World Tag Team Titles.

[NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament - Semifinal Match]:
The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Ole Anderson and Arn Anderson) defeated The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers) when O. Anderson made Fulton submit to the Armbar in 0:20:37.
Rating: ** 3/4

The Fantastics tried to repeat their showing from earlier against The Russians and they nearly did against The Minnesota Wrecking Crew. They took Ole Anderson and Arn Anderson to the absolute limit. But in the end, Ole Anderson and Arn Anderson were just too much for Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton as they continued to wear them down near the end. It seems like the high flying, fast paced style of The Fantastics got the better of them as they were being worn down and out of energy by the time Ole Anderson started methodically working on the arm of Bobby Fulton and keeping him in the corner near Arn Anderson. Once Ole Anderson applied the Armbar on Bobby Fulton, it was enough to make Fulton submit to the hold.

Interview:
[Tully Blanchard and his manager James J. Dillon are standing by with David Crockett and Tony Schiavone.]

Tony Schiavone: Tully Blanchard is here with us as we are getting closer to not only determining NWA World Tag Team Champions but also to the main event where Dusty Rhodes and Magnum T.A. will square off against Ric Flair and Tully Blanchard. Earlier we had Ric Flair out here to comment on what happened last week with your involvement in his match against Dusty Rhodes. Ric Flair didn't exactly flatter you in his comments either. What do you have to say?

Tully Blanchard: Oh, it's typical Ric Flair boasting and arrogance. If it hadn't been for my roll of quarters knocking Dusty Rhodes silly, I don't think Ric Flair would've been so arrogant this week. The way I see it, Dusty Rhodes was knocking the so called "dirtiest player in the game" all over the ring and was a Bionic Elbowdrop away from beating him. Flair also was telling me to follow his lead. Ha! I march to the beat of my drum, not yours Flair. Don't get me wrong, Tony and David. Ric's one of the greatest wrestlers but so is Tully Blanchard. I'd go as far as to say I'm better than Ric Flair. While it might seem Ric and I make for a lousy tag team with our attitudes, we do share one thing in common and that is a dislike for Magnum T.A. and Dusty Rhodes. Last week, Magnum, you got lucky my friend. It's one thing to go around the ring and touch all four turnbuckles to beat me. Can you step up and pin my shoulders to the mat for the 1-2-3? I don't think so. And Dusty Rhodes, Big Dust, I know you will be coming for me after I gave you some free money with my fists. Just know that I welcome that and I won't be scared one bit of The American Dream.

Match for the vacant NWA World Tag Team Titles:
The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Ole Anderson and Arn Anderson) defeated Rock'n'Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) when O. Anderson pinned R. Morton after a rollover in 0:17:09.
Rating: ***
(The Minnesota Wrecking Crew won the NWA World Tag Team Titles.)

Just last week, The Minnesota Wrecking Crew predicted they would be the best team of the 1980s. Tonight, they took the first step towards making that a reality with their victory over The Rock 'N' Roll Express to become the NWA World Tag Team Champions. Ricky Morton took a risk by going to the top turnbuckle to attempt a flying cross body press on Ole Anderson but Ole rolled through the move and managed to get the three count to win the titles.

Dusty Rhodes and Magnum T.A. defeated Ric Flair and Tully Blanchard when Magnum TA pinned Blanchard with the Belly-to-Belly Suplex in 0:12:40.
Rating: **

Dusty Rhodes and Magnum T.A. gained a small amount of revenge against Ric Flair and Tully Blanchard here tonight after they defeated their rivals when Magnum T.A. successfully gained the three count over Tully Blanchard with the Belly-to-Belly Suplex. Ric Flair looked on with disgust on his face over Tully Blanchard losing the match. I guess these two really do dislike each other and were only teaming as a matter of convenience. I'm sure tonight's results will not be the last we see of the feud between these four wrestlers though.

Card rating: ** 1/4

Love this stuff.

Is it just me, or are the * ratings a lot lower when a circuit is just getting started?

I believe it is because with new circuits you have to get the wrestlers "over" so the better you book them and the more heat they get the ratings start to show the crowd is getting into your circuit. Something I like about TNM
