Rock'n'Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) defeated The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton) when R. Morton defeated Eaton by disqualification in 0:10:57.

[Jim Cornette interfered against Ricky Morton.]

The first episode of NWA World Championship Wrestling got started with two of the best tag teams in professional wrestling squaring off.  These two teams have been feuding in other promotions and it continues to rage on here in the NWA. Jim Cornette, the manager of The Midnight Express, got involved numerous times throughout this match, which didn't allow for The Rock 'N' Roll Express to get much momentum going. It also allowed The Midnight Express to gain an advantage throughout most of the match. However, when Gibson made the hot tag to Morton late in the match, with the fans firmly on the side of The Rock 'N' Roll Express, it looked as if things were looking up. However, Jim Cornette could sense the tide changing in the favor of The Rock 'N' Roll Express, so when Ricky Morton ran into the ropes, Jim Cornette got on the apron and hit him with the tennis racket in plain sight of the referee Steven Gregory to cause the disqualification.

Interview:
[Ric Flair joins Tony Schiavone and David Crockett at the podium.]

Tony Schiavone: We are being joined now by the illustrious former NWA World  Heavyweight Champion, Ric Flair. Tonight, you have a match against someone you are very familiar with in "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes.

Ric Flair: First of all, Tony Schiavone, I didn't appreciate the tone used when referring me as the "former" World Heavyweight Champion. Pal, we all know that it is only a matter of time before I reclaim what is rightfully mine and that is the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Now, as far as Dusty Rhodes is concerned, I'm looking forward to wrestling him in tonight's premiere main event. It will set a tone as to where the NWA is going in 1985. I may not like Dusty Rhodes but I can recognize the man is a world class athlete, just like myself. The difference between us is that I am that much better and Dusty Rhodes knows it! I am the premiere athlete in not just the world of professional wrestling but of all professional sports! Tonight, I intend to make a statement against Dusty Rhodes as I take the first steps in reclaiming the World Heavyweight Championship. Wooooo!!!

Nikita Koloff pinned George South with the Russian Sickle in 0:01:57.
Rating: 3/4*

Nikita Koloff controlled this match from beginning to end and showed everyone not only why he is deemed The Russian Nightmare but why he is the most feared wrestler in the NWA. The match was ended when Nikita Koloff reversed a whip into the ropes with a Russian Sickle for the three count.

Interview:
[Nikita Koloff and Ivan Koloff join Tony Schiavone and David Crockett by the podium.]

Tony Schiavone: A very impressive victory by "The Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff tonight, Ivan.

Ivan Koloff: Do you expect anything less, Tony Schiavone? My nephew Nikita is one of the toughest men in Soviet Union. He's a Koloff, that is no surprise. Nikita, after defeating everyone in the Mother Country decided to call me and he told me, "Uncle Ivan, no competition remaining in Soviet Union. I need competition, so I come to the USA." I told nephew Nikita that they say America is the land of opportunity. Now that nephew Nikita is here, there is going to be plenty of opportunities for nephew Nikita to destroy the competition.

[Nikita Koloff grabs the microphone.]

Nikita Koloff: Uncle Ivan, what he telling you stupid Americans is that I am here to beat people up and win. We Soviets are superior to you cowardly Americans. Next week, Uncle Ivan and I will win the NWA World Tag Team Titles to prove the superiority of the Soviet Union.

Terry Funk and Ron Bass defeated The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers) when Ron Bass pinned Fulton with the Gourdbuster in 0:17:19.
Rating: ** 1/2

An even tag team match between these two teams. Ron Bass managed to execute a Gourdbuster on Bobby Fulton to get the three count. The tough Texan combo could be a dark horse team in next week's tag team tournament for the NWA World Tag Team Titles.

Interview:
["The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes is standing by with Tony Schiavone and David Crockett.]

Tony Schiavone: Dusty Rhodes is here and 'Dream, I am sure you heard the comments from Ric Flair earlier regarding your match tonight.

Dusty Rhodes: You betta' belee 'dat I heard the comments from one "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Tonight is not the first time The Nature Boy and The American Dream have gone toe to toe. I've won some, Ric's won some more. But the bottom line is that we sell out every arena we wrestle in. Ric Flair might like to think he is the better man just because he says he is. I like to do my talking in the ring if you will. So Ric Flair, when you're looking up at the lights feeling the effects of the Bionic Elbowdrop like only Dusty Rhodes can deliver, you'll realize just who the better man is!

Strap Match:
Magnum T.A. defeated Tully Blanchard in 0:10:25.
Rating: * 1/2

The man who many have called the future of professional wrestling, Magnum T.A., was able to withstand interference from James J. Dillon and also was able to touch all four turnbuckles before Tully Blanchard could to win this Strap Match. You have to believe that this loss will not sit well with Tully Blanchard.

Arn Anderson pinned Ronnie Garvin with the Gourdbuster in 0:11:41.
Rating: ** 1/4

With Ole Anderson watching from ringside Arn Anderson picked up a big victory against one of the toughest wrestlers in the NWA in Ronnie Garvin. Next week, Ole and Arn will team up to reform The Minnesota Wrecking Crew with their goal to become the NWA World Tag Team Champions.

Interview:
[After defeating Ronnie Garvin, Arn Anderson and Ole Anderson walk over to the podium where Tony Schiavone and David Crockett are waiting to get some comments.]

David Crockett: Tony, that was quite the victory by Arn Anderson we just watched against Ronnie Garvin.

Tony Schiavone: It was indeed, David. We are now being joined by the Andersons, Ole and his nephew Arn, fresh off his impressive win against Ronnie Garvin.

Ole Anderson: How about those Andersons, eh? I told you all that I saw the promise and the potential in my nephew Arn. But oh no, you all didn't want to hear it because you didn't want me to break up my tag team with Thunderbolt Patterson. As they say, blood is thicker than water. While Thunderbolt and myself formed a good tag team, that's all it was, good. With Arn by my side, The Minnesota Wrecking Crew, the greatest tag team dynasty, can now be reformed and restored to its rightful place in professional wrestling.

Arn Anderson: Tony Schiavone and David Crockett, look at my victory tonight. It wasn't against some no-name loser. I defeated Ronnie Garvin, who I must say is one of the toughest men I've fought in my short career to this point. Fast forward to next week, gentlemen, when I will be teaming up with Ole to reform The Minnesota Wrecking Crew. The greatest tag team of the 1970s is about to become the greatest tag team of the 1980s. Simply put, we are better than the rest of the competition here in the NWA. If any of you people have a gambling vice and want to wager on who will become the NWA World Tag Team Champions next week, look no further than The Minnesota Wrecking Crew. Bank on it.

Billy Jack Haynes and Wahoo McDaniel defeated Rocky King and Pez Whatley when Haynes defeated P. Whatley when P. Whatley passed out in the Full Nelson in 0:07:12.
Rating: *

It may have them longer than expected to put away Rocky King and Pez Whatley but Billy Jack Haynes and Wahoo McDaniel were able to come through to win this match. The strongman from Oregon, Billy Jack Haynes, managed to get Pez Whatley locked in the Full Nelson and made him pass out to get the win. Billy Jack Haynes and Wahoo McDaniel will be teaming up in next week's tag team tournament for the NWA World Tag Team Titles.

Ric Flair pinned Dusty Rhodes after a kneedrop in 0:22:27.
Rating: ***
[Tully Blanchard interfered against Dusty Rhodes.]

What a great way to cap a great night of wrestling on TBS. Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair have had a natural rivalry for years that has involved the switching back and forth of the prestigeous NWA World Heavyweight Title. Tonight, only bragging rights were on the line as these two were natural and obvious choices to main event the first NWA World Championship Wrestling telecast on TBS. The action in this match was intense as you could tell neither man wanted to lose this all important match here tonight.

However, neither man could gain an advantage over the other. That is, until Tully Blanchard walked down to the ring, holding something behind his back. Ric Flair threw Dusty Rhodes out of the ring and immediately distracted referee Tommy Young. When Dusty Rhodes got back to his feet, he was met with a punch from Tully Blanchard. But this was no ordinary punch folks. This punch was loaded with a fist full of rolled up quarters! Tully Blanchard laughed as he walked away from the ring and to the back. Ric Flair went to the outside of the ring and pushed a bloody Dusty Rhodes, who was bleeding from the forehead from that punch he just took. Ric Flair hit a kneedrop on Dusty Rhodes and went for the pin to get the three count.

The finish of this match makes you wonder what kind of relationship Ric Flair and Tully Blanchard have as neither man really likes the other.

are we going to see more of this one?  Cause I'm interested in seeing where this could go with the old school rules as it's backdrop.
The TNM Members ChampPosted on 05/11/07 at 08:09:28

Definitely. I've tried it a few times before but I am starting again with your rules with a few changes here and there. I also forgot to mention that titles were vacated.

I will also try to do short interviews with some of the wrestlers in the cards.
