APRIL 1989 TO MARCH 1990 - THE YEAR IN REVIEW

April

Following a successful title defence in the return match against the "Macho Man" Randy Savage, WWF Champion Hulk Hogan was viciously attacked by Andre the Giant leaving him lying in the ring. This set up the signing of their match at Summerslam 89. Earlier in the night there were successful title defences by "Ravishing" Rick Rude and Demolition, against "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and The Powers of Pain.

Continuing their feud, Rick "Model" Martel interfered against Tito Santana, causing Santana to lose his match to Mr Perfect. Also, the Big Boss Man attacked Jake "Snake" Roberts, causing his partner Akeem to be disqualified. Boss Man was not bothered though as he continued his nasty attack on the man from Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Bobby Heenan's BrainBusters positioned themselves as number one contenders for the Tag Titles by defeating The Rockers. Finally, "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka made his return to the WWF, defeating Boris Zhukov.

July

Hulk Hogan defeated Rick "Model" Martel to retain the WWF Title once again. The "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes made his WWF debut against Greg "Hammer" Valentine. Just as Rhodes looked like gaining a hard fought victory, Dino Bravo and the Honky Tonk Man came to ringside and attacked Rhodes, causing a DQ loss for Valentine.

There were also good victories for The Orient Express, Bravo, "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, The Hart Foundation and Bad News Brown.

August

Summerslam 1989 was a huge pay per view event.

In a long, tough main event the WWF Champion Hulk Hogan was pushed to his limit as he somehow managed to defeat the 8th Wonder of the World, Andre the Giant. It was the only title to remain intact on a very mixed night for Bobby Heenan's Family, as his main man "Ravishing" Rick Rude was defeated by the Ultimate Warrior in a best of 3 falls rematch for the InterContinental Title Match. There was some good news for Heenan though, as in the first match of the night the BrainBusters defeated Demolition to become the WWF World Tag Team Champions.

In two big 6 man tag matches, nothing was really settled as Tito Santana and The Rockers defeated Rick "Model" Martel and The Fabulous Rougeaus. Later in the night Jake "Snake" Roberts and The Hart Foundation overcame Big Boss Man and The Bolsheviks.

Dusty Rhodes gained a small measure of revenge when he defeated Honky Tonk Man then "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan beat Haku. After the match came a very nasty surprise for Duggan though, as he was attacked by "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase!

Finally, Dino Bravo and Mr Perfect both put themselves in contention for title shots as they continued their recent impressive runs with wins over Koko B.Ware and "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka.

October

An action packed SNME was headlined by another victory for WWF Champion Hulk Hogan, this time over Bad News Brown. After the match though Mr Perfect, until now denied a title shot, took matters into his own hands, attacking Hogan and hitting him several times with a steel chair!

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper's return to the WWF was marred by outside interference from "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Savage, looking to rise back up the rankings clearly felt an attack on Piper was the way to do it. He forgot that Piper can resort to such tactics too, and sure enough, later in the night in Savage's match against Brutus Beefcake, Piper returned the favour, bringing his usual brand of chaos to proceedings.

Mr Perfect, The Powers of Pain and "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase had earlier been victorious in their matches.

November

The next pay per view spectacular took place in November as 40 WWF Superstars lined up for the Survivor Series 1989.

The first match of the night saw Randy Savage (with Haku and The Orient Express) defeat the team of Roddy Piper (Koko B.Ware and The Bushwhackers), when the "Macho Man" was the sole survivor.

Next match saw "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase also the sole survivor as his team (Bad News Brown and The Powers of Pain), defeated "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan's team (Brutus Beefcake and The Hart Foundation).

WWF InterContinental Champion The Ultimate Warrior had a great night as his entire team (The Rockers and "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka), defeated Dino Bravo and his team (Greg "Hammer" Valentine and The Fabulous Rougeaus).

In the 4th match of the night neither team captain managed to survive when Jake "Snake" Roberts' team (Dusty Rhodes, Tito Santanta and Ronnie Garvin) took on the team of the Big Boss Man (Akeem, Rick "Model" Martel and Honky Tonk Man). It was the "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes who stood alone in the ring at the end.

The final match of survival saw WWF Champion Hulk Hogan captain his team (Hercules and Demolition) against the team of Mr Perfect ("Ravishing" Rick Rude and BrainBusters). Eventually it came down to a 2 on 1 situation as Perfect and Rude took on the Hulkster. Showing his legendary reserves of spirit and fortitude Hogan managed to outlast both men and gain the victory for his team!

A number of big announcements came after the pay per view.

WWF Champion Hulk Hogan will defend the title against number 1 contender Mr Perfect at the Royal Rumble.

InterContinental Champion The Ultimate Warrior will face Dino Bravo at the Rumble.

The 3rd title match of the night will see Demolition get another chance at the BrainBusters.

Finally, Brutus "Barber" Beefcake has sensationally quit the WWF, and Jimmy Hart has a new acquisition, the Earthquake!!

Christmas

A special festive SNME was headlined by the two singles champions Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior defeating their main challengers, Mr Perfect and Dino Bravo.

In the first match of the night Earthquake made his debut with a crushing victory over Koko B.Ware. Earthquake made a further impact later in the night when he attacked Dusty Rhodes after Rhodes' victory of Honky Tonk Man, much to the delight of his manager, "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart.

Jimmy Hart surprised many, including the wrestler himself, when he did not come to ringside with Greg "Hammer" Valentine for his match with Tito Santana. Clearly distracted, Valentine was not his usual self as Santana gained the pinfall victory. Rumours of discord between Valentine and Hart will only be strengthened by developments here.

January

Royal Rumble 1990

3 Fantastic title matches, but no titles changed hands as Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior and BrainBusters managed to just about see off Mr Perfect, Dino Bravo and Demolition.

In the Rumble match itself, "Ravishing" Rick Rude (coming in at no.26), managed to outlast 29 other men to win the Rumble and automatically guarantee himself the No.1 contenders spot, and a showdown with the Hulkster in the main event at Wrestlemania VI.

It seems pretty official that Greg "Hammer" Valentine is no longer managed by Jimmy Hart, as he eliminated Honky Tonk Man from the Rumble, cheered on by his newest allies, the fans!

A number of big announcements that will change the face of the WWF of the 90's were also announced at the pay per view.

A new pay per view will take place in June each year. King of the Ring will feature an 8 man tournament to determine the King of the Ring, the winner will get a title shot at Summerslam.

Saturday Nights Main Event is no more. It will be replaced by "In Your House", a new pay per view event that will take place every month when there is not a current pay per view, starting in April 1990.

A new title has been added. The WWF Television Title will be added to the list of WWF Titles. The first WWF T.V. Champion will be decided by a one night 8 man tourney at "In Your House I" in April.

March

Wrestlemania VI

The main event went for nearly 40 minutes!! Despite being in trouble for most of the match, the WWF Champion once again managed to hold onto his title against "Ravishing" Rick Rude. Rude gave it everything but just came up short. After the match, a big surprise as Andre the Giant, who has been absent since Summerslam 89, came to ringside and crushed the champion. Andre then challenged Hogan to a "Retirement Match" for the WWF Title at the King of the Ring pay per view in June. Hogan, barely able to breath, accepted the challenge.

The Ultimate Warrior had an easier than expected title victory over Bad News Brown and BrainBusters overcame The Hart Foundation - just!

Nothing was settled between "Macho Man" Randy Savage and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper as they fought to a double countout, while "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase saw off the challenge of "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. Jake "Snake" Roberts saw off the Big Boss Man and Earthquake made a big statement, crushing the "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes.

Greg "Hammer" Valentine had a big smile on his face after he defeated Honky Tonk Man as did Rick "Model" Martel after his victory over his former partner, Tito Santana.

Rounding out the card there were good victories for Demolition, The Fabulous Rougeaus, Mr Perfect (now managed by Bobby Heenan) and "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka over The Orient Express, The Rockers, "Rugged" Ronnie Garvin and Akeem.

Meanwhile, The Powers of Pain have split. Mr Fuji has sold the contracts of The Barbarian (to Bobby Heenan) and The Warlord (to Slick).

Summary

A great year of action in the new, improved WWF and the rest of 1990 and beyond looks just as exciting as we will see some new faces, some hot feuds and some great matches in the months and years ahead!

I really like your recap style and the time frame you work in, keep it up. Also could you email me your export file of your talent roster for that time frame. My Email is Murphy42782@hotmail.com
thanks
ianclarkPosted on 02/14/07 at 22:13:49

Thanks for the compliment but the "recap" as you call it is just a one off to warm people to the circuit and to give a "story so far" type report.  I'll be trying to do much more regular updates as per my normal style asap.

I've tried to email you my export file, but I warn you I'm not very technical at this sort of thing!!
blslivewirePosted on 02/15/07 at 05:32:29

Nice recap but when you get into "real time" could you include the match ratings and lengths? I'm always intrested in that.

Also, just out of couriousity, what type of settings do you use for the circuit as far as what's available in Tweak Circuit-match length, etc.

NOTES:

A gruelling main event saw the WWF Heavyweight and InterContinental Champions come out victorious, but unfortunately for them, that wasn't the end of it. Andre and Earthquake were joined by their cohorts from Bobby Heenan and Jimmy Hart's stables as numerous men attacked Hogan and the Warrior, leaving them in bad condition in the ring.

Earlier in the night two new champions were crowned. The Hart Foundation managed to overcome the seemingly invincible BrainBusters for a bit of an upset win. The Harts don't care though, as they begin their second WWF Tag Team title reign.

The first Television champion is Rick "Model" Martel. Making the most of a bye in the semi finals, Martel defeated his long time nemesis Tito Santana in the finals for his first singles title in the WWF. Sympathy must go to Santana though, as he had clearly run out of steam after two tough matches against two huge men, in The Barbarian and The Warlord.

Although Piper managed to beat Savage in the other match of the night, nothing was really settled. However, things will come to a head when the two meet once again at the King of the Ring. This time however, there will be nowhere to hide, as they will meet within the confines of a steel cage!!

Hercules was not happy after yet another defeat and took his frustration out on the referee!

Finally, the second instalment of In Your House will feature the 8 King of the Ring qualifying matches.

Very good read. It's interesting to see/read about the wrestlers from my childhood that I don't recall very well. Keep up the good work!

Sorry folks.....

I know I have finished circuits before through lack of interest, but unfortunately this time, my PC died on me a couple of weeks ago, so I have lost everything.  I cannot even access the information on my old PC so at the moment I do not even have a copy of TNM to start again with.

Apologies to those that enjoyed my circuit, but it cannot be helped.

Hopefully, I will see you all again sometime in the future....

Until then, enjoy your TNM and long live 1980's WWF !!!!
HugeRockStar760Posted on 03/10/07 at 22:59:55

That's unfortunate this circuit will not be continuing. It's a very simple presentation you give but it is very effective. I think you should continue. It's always fun writing old school circuits because you can change how the promotion booked things and for the better most times.

Hulk Hogan v. Mr. Perfect was always a wasted opportunity. I remember how excited I was for that match.
Rick GarrardPosted on 03/11/07 at 00:26:54

IF the hard drive died, then that sucks (been there, done that), but if it was merely a CPU meltdown, chances are your hard drive still contains the info... find a reputable computer person to copy your data to a new drive on a new CPU (or even copy it to a thumbdrive).

The one best piece advice I have for ANY TNM user... BUY A USB THUMBDRIVE just for your TNM backups... they are less than $30 for more disk space than you need for TNM... and it makes your TNM "portable" so you can use it practically on any PC!
ianclarkPosted on 03/30/07 at 19:51:51

Hi,

Thanks for the kind words, but my hard drive just "went" completely, no chance of retrieving anything.

I have a new PC now so will probably get the latest "Build" of TNM and then I will be back, probably with a similar circuit (in terms of date and style) to this one.

See you all soon......

Hi everybody.

I'm back!!!

Watch for a new circuit coming very, very soon
