UW Fury (6/19/06)

MatteusPosted on 03/15/07 at 01:15:21

Trying out a new format... not sure if I like it, but we'll see.

UW Fury (6/19/06):

Welcome to the latest edition of Unlimited Wrestling Fury! Last week, "The Legend Killer" Randy Orton got the upper hand on Triple H, jumping and attacking him with the help of the still-injured Jeff Jarrett on his Planet Jarrett segment. The beating was bad, but certainly not enough to keep The Game down. With the champ in action tonight, what will Orton have up his sleeve? Also, we left last week as John Cena was triumphant over John Bradshaw Layfield in the biggest battle of their long-going feud, defeating him in a Hardcore match after hitting an F-U through a table. JBL has asked for some time to speak tonight, but what could possibly be said after such a vicious fight last week? Also last week, Sean O'Haire and Chavo nearly took out the North American champion Shelton Benjamin once and for all, but Benjamin's friend and former partner Charlie Haas returned to the UW ring to save him! Where has Haas been? What does this mean for his UW career? Matteus granted London and Kendrick's request for Tag Team Warfare tonight, which means they will meet Major League tonight to settle the score between these two teams. This will certainly go a long way in leveling out the tag team ranks. Plus, after last week's brawl, half of the field of eight for this Sunday's Kingdom Come tournament will be in action as Monty Brown, Gregory Shane Helms, Edge, and Booker T face off in a Four Corners match! Who will get the momentum heading into the tournament this Sunday?

We're about to find out, let's head down to the ring!

The night opened with the World Tag Team champions, MNM making their way out for commentary. With such a high stakes match in the tag team rankings, the champs and Melina wanted the best seat in the house. Unfortunately, there was only one microphone... and more unfortunately Melina decided to use it. As Brian Kendrick made his way to the ring, he was jumped by both "Superstar" Steven Richards and "Cocky" Sonny Siaki! Their attack was brief as Paul London was quite ready for it, taking out Sonny Siaki and fighting him to the back. With both Kendrick and Richards in the ring, the bell rang...

Tag Team Warfare, Round 1:
Brian Kendrick pinned Steven Richards with the Sliced Bread #2 in 0:06:33.
Rating: ** 1/2

This was quite the way to start off our night, as Kendrick put his team up 1-0 in Tag Team Warfare after hitting the Sliced Bread #2. Richards wasn't easily defeated, however, as the seasoned vet held his own throughout the match and attempted to keep Kendrick grounded. He did for much of it, but Kendrick fought back and took his assault to the skies, landing a great flying body splash before nailing his finisher to put the Superstar away.

After the match, Melina told her boys to take care of business, and MNM entered the ring and attempted to attack both Richards and Kendrick. Their attack was quickly counteracted by Team Canada as Roode, Williams, and Young raced to the ring. Nitro and Mercury weren't about to stay and fight, and they fled the ring, grabbing their tag titles and Melina and heading toward the back. They were yelling at Team Canada as they backed up the aisle, when from behind, Limited Edition clobbered the champs! MNM was completely unprepared for Dinsmore and Conway, and Limited Edition tossed them back into the ring for Team Canada. Roode leveled Nitro with a Lariat, Williams hit the Canadian Destroyer on Mercury, and before they could get their hands on Melina, she was out of the ring in a fit of anger.

New backstage interviewer Johan Butler was shown with Booker T. Booker went over the past month of his life where he has been screwed out of the World title not once but two times by Randy Orton. He said that Orton will get his after Kingdom Come. But tonight he steps into the ring with three other men and he'll show everyone why he'll be the King after Sunday. Before he can go much further, Randy Orton jumped him from behind and started beating Booker down! Orton grabbed Butler's mic and looked at the camera, saying that this was what would happen to Triple H on Sunday. Orton's destiny is his legacy, and his championship reign begins at Kingdom Come. Luckily, Monty Brown came to the aid of Booker, simply shoving Orton off camera and staring him down. Orton smiled and backed away, having delivered his message.

Tag Team Warfare, Round 2
Sonny Siaki pinned Paul London with the Siakolypse NOW in 0:09:04.
Rating: *** 3/4

Sonny Siaki tied the series with London & Kendrick at one apiece with this win. London was outstanding throughout, but one crucial mistake mixed with some underhanded that we've come to expect of Major League cost him the victory here. London went for a shooting star press on the standing Siaki and Sonny pulled the referee into the way! Siaki took advantage of this, hitting London with a low blow and slowly set up for the Siakolypse NOW. Once the ref came too, it was lights out. As a result, we'll have Round 3, a no DQ no count-out tag team match between Major League and London & Kendrick later tonight!

*It's time to play the game...*

Triple H came out to a thunderous ovation and the UW World champion had quite a bit on his mind. Randy Orton can't beat him one-on-one. Orton put a mask on and tried to injure Triple H at No Justice. He launched a sneak-attack on him on Planet Jarrett. Randy Orton can't hang with The Game. Triple H continued to pump the crowd up with what he had in store for Orton at Kingdom Come when "Personal Jesus" by Marilyn Manson played and out came Generation Next, led by Gregory Shane Helms. Helms ran down Triple H as just another jacked up meathead and said that after he becomes King, he's going to take Triple H's gold and rule over Unlimited Wrestling's muscle-bound freaks. Hunter leveled him at this point and Aries and Shelley fought back, taking the champ down to give Aries the advantage as their non-title match began...

Non-Title Match
Triple H pinned Austin Aries with the Pedigree in 0:12:08.
Rating: ** 1/2
[Alex Shelley interfered against Triple H.]

The World champion took care of business, but it was no walk in the park. Helms and Shelley made sure to interject any time Triple H started to take the offensive. Aries is a wrestling machine who he doesn't need much help, so when he was getting it from Gen Next, it worked like a charm. Unfortunately, Helms and Shelley got too arrogant in their actions and the referee finally saw what they were doing and sent them away. Triple H took the fight to Aries after that, finally hitting the Pedigree to pick up the win.

Johan Butler was backstage next, and he was speaking with Charlie Haas who returned to UW last week to help his former friend and tag team partner, North American champion Shelton Benjamin. Haas said he has been undergoing some psychotherapy during his time away from the ring. He recounted his falling out with Shelton and how he snapped after that, going on a vicious spree against MNM. He wasn't the same but his therapist helped him see the true reason behind his rage and he's helping him control it now. Haas said that he couldn't just stand back and let Sean O'Haire and Chavo do what they did to Shelton anymore. So if it's a war that Sean O'Haire and Chavo want, he warns them that the odds just got evened and he promises that he has Shelton's back.

After the commercial, Edge was shown in the locker room with "X-Rated" Teddy Hart, preparing for the four corners match later on. Gregory Shane Helms walked in with Alex Shelley and a still recuperating Austin Aries and told him that if he has Edge's back then he'll have his tonight. The tension between Gen Next and Hart was evident as neither side trusted the other. Edge said he accepted, but if on Sunday it comes down to Edge and Helms, he'd better not see any of his goons at ringside, because Edge is going to kick Helms' ass by himself. Helms scoffed as Gen Next backed out of the room...

Tag Team Warfare, Round 3 (No DQ, No Countout):
Paul London and Brian Kendrick defeated
Major League (Sonny Siaki and Steven Richards) when B. Kendrick pinned Siaki
with the Sliced Bread #2 in 0:16:10.
Rating: ****

What a huge victory for London & Kendrick here tonight, as they win the final leg of Tag Team Warfare and take it 2-1 over Major League! The crowd was hot throughout, but when the action spilled to the floor they became even more enthralled. Siaki and Richards tried to use whatever they could find at ringside to their advantage, taking chairs and even the ring bell and using it on their opponents. Eventually Siaki got a bit too cocky and got out of his element. He set London up on a table on the arena floor and tried to hit a senton bomb from the turnbuckle. Kendrick got him out of the way and Sonny went crashing through the table! It was only a matter of time as Kendrick hit the Sliced Bread #2 back in the ring to get the pinfall. Tough luck for Major League, but they certainly came out looking strong. Both of these tag teams will be forces to be reckoned with in the near future.

Johan Butler was shown in back with John Bradshaw Layfield. Butler tried to get something out of him by asking what his plans were after last week's loss to John Cena, but got nothing. He asked if JBL still considered himself to be feuding with John Cena. Nothing. Before Butler could ask another question, JBL snapped out of it and leveled him with a Clothesline From Hell! Not a good first night for Butler... JBL started screaming at the camera that John Cena had gotten the best of him last week, John Cena is a no good thief because that thug had taken the one thing that mattered to Layfield more than money and that's his livelihood. JBL screamed even louder, saying that John Cena had demoralized him now to the point that he doesn't give a damn about the wrestling business. He quits wrestling! All he cares about is Cena's termination... and he's found the Terminator. He's found the man who will end John Cena's career just like he's ended JBL's. John Cena's demise begins at Kingdom Come. JBL stared at the camera like a crazed man as we faded to commercial...

Kingdom Come Preview (Four Corners Match):
Monty Brown defeated Booker T, Edge and Gregory Shane Helms when
M. Brown pinned Edge with the Pounce in 0:18:53.
Rating: ** 3/4
[Randy Orton interfered against Booker T.]

This one saw some wild action from start to finish, as the Alpha Male picks up the win heading into this Sunday's pay-per-view. Randy Orton tried to interject himself right away, attacking Booker, but Triple H came right out and chased the Legend Killer to the back. Edge and Helms' teamwork helped them out at first, as they double-teamed Booker T, keeping him in the ring and tagging themselves in and out while Brown waited impatiently. Helms looked poised to end it with a Shining Wizard on Booker, but Edge intercepted him in the middle of the ring with a Spear! Monty Brown then entered the ring and started attacking everyone and all hell broke loose. The confusion eventually cleared and Booker hit the Scissor Kick on Helms, Edge nailed Booker with the Spear and went for the pin, but Brown broke it up and leveled Edge with the Pounce and that was all she wrote.

Monty Brown celebrated in the ring and signaled that he would be King this Sunday. A video preview of this Sunday's pay-per-view set to Oasis' "Fuckin' in the Bushes" ended the show. Here's the final card:

Truthfully, not too keen on the new format.  It's not bad, per se, and it's well written, but I generally don't like having the match result before the description of what happened.  Could just be me though.

Kendrick wins the first singles match, which all but guarantees that Siaki wins the second... yup.

Orton is making far too many enemies, and when his only partner is of no help because he's out with a busted up elbow, it doesn't sit well for Orton.

Awww... poor Helms.  He's supposed to be a bad ass, man, a bad ass!  Stupid HHH.  I want to fart on his head.

Haas seeing a therapist!  I can totally see this turning into Haas becoming like the Incredible Hulk and when he gets angry, he becomes unstoppable. :)

Good end to the Tag Team Warfare, and the right team won.  Major League just really hasn't it for me yet.  Kendrick and London keep on rolling though.

Insane JBL!  The Terminator!  I hope it's Great Khali, mostly because I want to hear the promos. :)

Good main event giving Brown a lot of momentum going into Kingdom Come.  Booker's momentum is fading a bit, but I still expect him in the finals.

As for the PPV, looks like a good card.  Don't necessarily like JBL's replacement getting a free ride in, but I'm guessing you're playing off of JBL's real life retirement?

Predictions:
Triple H retains

MNM retains

Helms over Benjamin
Booker over O'Haire
Brown by DQ over the Terminator
Edge over Cena

Helms over Booker by screwjob
Brown over Edge

Helms wins the tourney
