SATURDAY NIGHTS MAIN EVENT - APRIL 1989

The Orient Express defeated The Bushwhackers via countout (11:52)

A good tag team match to start the night and a promising debut from The Orient Express as a handful of salt blinded Butch giving the victory to Mr Fuji's new team.

WWF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH

Ravishing Rick Rude defeated Hercules via pinfall (13:50).

A strong first defence for Rude (with some help from Bobby Heenan).  Hercules put on a good show after his victory over Haku at Wrestlemania, but ultimately he fell victim to the Rude Awakening and the 1-2-3.

Bad News Brown defeated Tito Santana via pinfall. (12:08)

An excellent wrestling match featuring two veterans was interrupted by the appearance of the "Model" Rick Martel, causing his former partner the match by distracting him just when victory had looked certain for Santana.  One thing is for sure, nothing is settled between these two men.

WWF WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES MATCH

Demolition defeated The Powers of Pain via pinfall (21:41)

The 2nd title match of the night was a rematch from Wrestlemania, this time with no managers in the ring!  Once again, The Warlord and The Barbarian gave Ax and Smash all they could handle, but once again they came up short as Demolition's desire helped them to hold onto their belts.  The Powers of Pain could well have a long wait before they get another shot at the titles.

The Ultimate Warrior defeated Haku by DQ (00:30)

This match never even got going as before the bell even sounded, The entire Heenan Family accompanied Haku to ringside.  As soon as the match started the Warrior took control, only for first the BrainBusters, and then Andre the Giant got in the ring and floored the man from Parts Unknown.  He tried to make a comeback but was left lying in the ring was the Heenan Family walked away laughing.

WWF WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH

Hulk Hogan defeated "Macho Man" Randy Savage via pinfall. (14:14)

The main event of the night was another rematch from Wrestlemania as "The Macho Man" invoked his rematch clause in an immediate attempt to regain his title.  Filled with intensity and fury, Savage attacked Hogan with almost everything he could find, luckily for him the referee showed plenty of latitude in not disqualifying him several times.  Eventually, the Hulkster managed to turn the tide of the match however, and after a kick to the face, and then a big leg drop, he managed to gain the pinfall victory over Savage, retaining the WWF World Heavyweight Title.

No sooner had the referee counted the 1-2-3 however, than The Powers of Pain, Bad News Brown and members of The Heenan Family stormed the ring, all attacking Hulk Hogan, leaving him battered and bruised in the middle of the ring.

NOTES:

What could possibly have caused so many "heels" to join together to attack the Champ?  Was this a plan of the Macho Man's in the event that things weren't going well for him?  Or was someone else behind the attack?  We shall see....

Meanwhile, all three titleholders managed to successfully defend their titles against strong challenges.  A strong first card following Wrestlemania.

SATURDAY NIGHTS MAIN EVENT - MAY 1989

"Superfly" Jimmy Snuka defeated Boris Zhukov via pinfall. (9:55)

The crowd went absolutely crazy at the return of the "Superfly" and they weren't disappointed as the legend from the Islands made a successful return to the WWF, executing his patented "Superfly" splash from the top rope to secure victory over the bald headed Russian.

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan defeated Akeem via DQ. (7:50)

This battle of the big men saw very little wrestling and a lot of rights and lefts as Duggan used crowd support to gain momentum and help him to dominate one half of the Twin Towers.  The match ended when the Big Boss Man came down to ringside and then entered the ring, clobbering "Hacksaw" with his nightstick and costing his partner the win.  The attack continued after the match and Duggan was left in a mess in the centre of the ring.

Dusty Rhodes defeated Nikolai Volkoff via pinfall. (13:10)

The second debut of the night saw "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes make his long awaited first appearance in the WWF.  In the early going he had plenty of trouble with the other half of The Bolsheviks, Nikolai Volkoff, but gradually Rhodes got the upper hand and sealed a fine victory with his Bionic Elbowdrop.

NO.1 CONTENDERS FOUR CORNERS ELIMINATION MATCH

BrainBusters defeated The Hart Foundation, The Rockers and The Fabulous Rougeaus. (40:03)

This match was created to establish the number one contenders to Demolition's tag team titles, and it was dominated by one team, the BrainBusters.  In this elimination match, they gained all 3 pinfalls, defeating first The Hart Foundation, then The Rockers, before finally seeing off The Fabulous Rougeaus to win the chance to take on Demolition at SummerSlam.

Rick Martel defeated Koko B.Ware via pinfall. (15:25)

An excellent technical wrestling match descended into something far more sinister at about the quarter of an hour mark, when Martel used some very devious tactics to gain victory.  Coming to the ring with the new nickname of "The Model" and carrying an atomiser full of his own cologne called "Arrogance", Martel distracted the referee and then sprayed Koko in the face, blinding him and giving Martel an easy 1-2-3.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper defeated Haku via submission. (12:32)

The 3rd and final debut of the night saw the return after 2 years of the Rowdy Scot to the WWF.  As usual Piper brought his normal brand of complete mayhem to the ring as he used all sorts of tactics, both legal and illegal to the ring.  Even the attempted distraction of Bobby Heenan couldn't save Haku, as Piper showed all his skills before finally locking Haku in the sleeperhold for the win.

Greg Valentine defeated Jake "Snake" Roberts via submission. (9:50)

The penultimate match of the night put two savvy ring veterans against each other.  The match was a tight affair with neither man gaining the upper hand for long, when from out of nowhere, "Macho Man" Randy Savage made his way to ringside.  As Valentine and his manager Jimmy Hart took the attention of the referee, Savage entered the ring and attacked Roberts, clipping his knee with the ring bell.  As Roberts writhed around the ring in agony, he was easy prey to Valentine's figure four leglock and had to submit for his own good.  What caused Savage to attack Roberts?  I'm sure we will find out in the weeks to come because from the look on "The Snake's" face, this story is far from over.

WWF WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH

Hulk Hogan defeated Bad News Brown via countout. (12:38)

The Champ, still reeling from the attack he suffered at the end of the last SNME, took on the number 1 contender, the man from Harlem, Bad News Brown.  This battle regularly spilled outside the ring and it was the final time this happened that Hogan just managed to beat the count and gain what many saw as a cheap victory for the Hulkster.

Once again, as soon as the final bell sounded, a group of "heel" wrestlers rushed to the ring and attacked Hogan.  It wasn't until a bunch of "faces" came down to save him did the beating stop.  As the card ended, for the second month in a row, the WWF Champion was left in a state in the ring.

NOTES:

2 months and 2 gang attacks on Hulk Hogan?  Who is behind this and if it is the work of one man, when will he reveal himself?  Questions must be answered sooner rather than later surely?

Meanwhile, Bad News Brown has been granted an immediate rematch following his rather unlucky loss to the Champ tonight.  Can the man from Harlem go one better?  We shall have to wait and see next month.

Congratulations to the BrainBusters on their superb victory and new status as number 1 contenders to Demolition's crown.  Ax and Smash know they will have their hands full at SummerSlam.

Finally, 3 incredibly popular wrestlers all made winning debuts tonight, much to the delight of the fans.  It will be interesting to see how they fare over the next few months, when no doubt tougher challenges will emerge.

SATURDAY NIGHTS MAIN EVENT - JUNE 1989

Mr Perfect defeated Koko B.Ware via pinfall. (17:23)

Another excellent wrestling match from the "Birdman" but once again, yet another defeat.  Both men displayed all their talents but in the end it was Mr Perfect who proved to be as good as his name, as he landed the PerfectPlex and gained the 1-2-3.

"Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase defeated Tito Santana via pinfall. (7:49)

In his first appearance in the ring since Wrestlemania, the "Million Dollar Man" showed no ring rust as he treated the fans to a clinic of all his skills, including some of the less legitimate ones, as his valet Virgil interfered on several occasions.  Nevertheless, DiBiase managed to roll up Santana for a good, clean pinfall win.

NON TITLE MATCH

Demolition defeated The Bolsheviks via DQ. (4:29)

This match, without the tag straps at stake, barely got started before Bobby Heenan led his BrainBusters to ringside. With Demolition dominating the Russians, Blanchard and Anderson entered the ring wielding chairs, and rained blows down on Ax and Smash, leaving them lying in the ring, as they walked away laughing.

FAREWELL MATCH

Dino Bravo defeated "Rugged" Ronnie Garvin via submission. (26:04)

An emotional Ronnie Garvin bade farewell to the WWF for the time being at least, as he was unable to negotiate a new contract and so this was his last match before leaving.  Up against a much bigger man in the Canadian strongman Bravo, Garvin put on a good show, using his infamous "Hands of Stone" to take control of the match.  Unfortunately for Garvin however, his advantage didn't last, as distraction from Jimmy Hart gave Bravo the chance he needed to hit his patented Side Suplex, and win the match.

Brutus "Barber" Beefcake defeated Honky Tonk Man via pinfall. (16:57)

Jimmy Hart was back in action again, as this time he accompanied another of his men, the Honky Tonk Man, to the ring.  A tough match, that went one way and then the other for more than a quarter of an hour, was decided by the interference of Hart.  Grabbing Honky's guitar, he took a swing at Beefcake, but missed and knocked out cold, his own man.  Beefcake gave Hart a punch for luck, then covered Honky for the victory.

"Superfly" Jimmy Snuka defeated Big Boss Man via pinfall. (7:22)

A complete size mismatch, this contest was dominated by the man from Cobb County, Georgia, using his 200lb weight advantage to its fullest.  Just when it looked like an easy victory for the Boss Man, he was distracted by the appearance of "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan at ringside.  One blow from Duggan's 2 x 4 knocked Boss Man out cold, and gave Snuka a surprise, upset victory.

The Fabulous Rougeaus defeated The Rockers via DQ. (15:55)

A classic, technical wrestling match full of excellent tag team tactics, was disrupted suddenly, as Mr Fuji's Orient Express got into the ring, and attacked the Rockers.  The referee has no choice but to DQ the Rougeaus, which just gave them free licence to join in the attack of the fallen Janetty and Michaels, until a bunch of referees put an end to the beating.

The Ultimate Warrior defeated Andre the Giant via pinfall. (12:20)

Bobby Heenan had a big smile on his face as he led his biggest man, Andre the Giant down to ringside, to deal with the Ultimate Warrior once and for all.  Unfortunately for Heenan however, the Warrior is a man on a mission to regain what he sees as his I-C belt, and not even the 520lb Giant was going to stop him as he managed to overcome the behemoth, to claim the victory, leaving Heenan running from ringside, like the Weasel he is.

WWF WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH

Hulk Hogan defeated Bad News Brown via pinfall. (25:28).

Having been granted this immediate rematch the man from Harlem wasted no time in attacking the Champ, using pretty much everything he could lay his hands on.  For nearly 20 minutes he was on top in this match, but was unable to put Hogan away.  Finally, the Hulkster managed to make his famous comeback, and eventually got the 1-2-3.

The celebrations were again cut short as once again Hulk was attacked by several men after the match.  This time was different however, as the man behind the attacks was finally revealed.  The "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase slowly walked to ringside, grabbed a microphone and told Hogan and the watching audience, that it was him.  He had offered plenty of money to weaken the champ and now he had his attention, he demanded a shot at the WWF Title.  Hogan, struggling on the floor, just managed to get out the word "Yes", before the attack continued.  Only when a number of "faces" saved him was Hogan able to make it to his feet, fury etched across his face.

NOTES:

After months of waiting, we now know who was behind the plot all along.  "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase has spread some of his enormous wealth around to try and crush the WWF Champion Hulk Hogan, both physically and mentally, all in an attempt to gain a title shot, a wish that has now been granted as is will be DiBiase who challenges Hogan at SummerSlam.

Other matches also lined up for the big summer pay per view will see the Ultimate Warrior in a rematch against "Ravishing" Rick Rude for the InterContinental Title and the BrainBusters challenge Demolition for the Tag Team Titles.

The remaining matches on the card will be announced after the next SNME in July.

I really dig your fed. It's a nice throw back to the old days of WWF when I started watching and became a fan. Look forward to more posts...
ianclarkPosted on 10/10/06 at 18:31:06

Thanks for the positive comments, much appreciated.  I'm really enjoying this fed.  The others I started got stale after a while but I've taken on board comments I've received and tried to put more detail on my cards, making the storylines better.

I always start around late 80's WWF cos thats when I started to watch wrestling too.

SATURDAY NIGHTS MAIN EVENT - JULY 1989

Haku defeated Hercules via pinfall. (10:51)

These two men have had problems with each other since Wrestlemania but things went up a notch tonight as another Heenan Family member, Andre the Giant got involved, crushing Hercules while Haku distracted the referee, giving the man from Samoa, an easy win.

Greg "The Hammer" Valentine defeated Brutus "Barber" Beefcake via pinfall. (13:46)

Long ago, Valentine and Beefcake formed a team known as "The Dream Team", but there is no love lost between them any more and they proved it here.  Ultimately, it was interference from Jimmy Hart and a handful of tights that won the day for "The Hammer".

The Hart Foundation defeated The Powers of Pain via DQ. (14:53)

A tough tag team encounter between these two veteran teams was cruelly interrupted by the arrival of The Fabulous Rougeaus.  Recently announced as the Harts opponents at SummerSlam, the brothers decided to scout their opponents from ringside.  They didn't stay outside the ring for long though, and their "hands on" approach cost The Barbarian and The Warlord the match.

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan defeated Rick "Model" Martel via DQ. (4:37)

Both men had some company as they walked to the ring, as Tito Santana and the Big Boss Man both made their way out for the start of this match.  Duggan and Martel were both clearly distracted for the duration of the match and it was no surprise that the match ended in a DQ finish, to be honest the result could have gone either way.

Dusty Rhodes defeated Akeem via pinfall. (9:25)

This match was much better for real than it seemed on paper as the "American Dream" took on the "African Dream".  In the end Rhodes better durability saw him through for the 1-2-3.  Suddenly, Mr Perfect sneaked in and attack Rhodes from the blindside, leaving him lying in the ring.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper defeated Dino Bravo via pinfall. (3:48)

Piper looked to continue his undefeated streak since rejoining the WWF against Bravo, accompanied as always by his manager, Jimmy Hart.  The Honky Tonk Man soon made his way to the ring and it was ultimately his interference that cost Bravo the match.  With Bravo holding Piper, Honky swung his guitar, trying to smash the Rowdy Scot.  Fortunately for Piper he managed to escape just in time and it was Bravo who took the full force of the guitar, leaving Piper the simple task of making the cover for the win.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage defeated Koko B.Ware via pinfall. (19:54)

The penultimate match of the night was one of the few to have no outside interference, mainly because Jake "Snake" Roberts wasn't in attendance.  A fine technical match was decided by Savage's win at all costs attitude and he prevailed, giving "the Birdman" yet another defeat.

"Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, "Ravishing" Rick Rude & the BrainBusters defeated Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior & Demolition via pinfall. (15:33)

The main event of the night featured all the contenders in the 3 title matches at Summerslam.  Time and again, all 8 wrestlers got into the ring and battled each other and during one of these moments, Tully Blanchard managed to blindside Ax, gaining the pinfall win for his team.

NOTES:

Most of the matches tonight had some impact on the next supercard, SummerSlam 1989.  Either matches were made, or some already announced matches were fuelled to the maximum by some sneak attacks and vicious in ring tactics.  All 12 matches have now been announced for the biggest event of the summer and the full card will follow shortly.

SUMMERSLAM 1989

The Hart Foundation defeated The Fabulous Rougeaus via pinfall. (5:00).

The Rougeaus talked the talk, but it was "The Hitman" and "The Anvil" who walked the walk, as they easily saw off the French Canadians in double quick time.  No doubt the Rougeaus will be looking for revenge some time soon.

British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith defeated Haku via pinfall. (13:05)

Haku's mystery opponent turned out to be the WWF's latest signing, the returning British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith, this time trying his hand at the singles ranks.  The Bulldog looked in fantastic shape and put on a wrestling clinic as he marked his debut with a comprehensive victory.

Honky Tonk Man and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper battled to a double countout. (14:37)

A tough battle descended into chaos more than once as Dino Bravo and Greg Valentine both got involved, whenever Honky was in trouble.  Each time Piper saw them off but eventually the match spilled outside the ring, and with each man concentrating on attacking the other, they both missed the count and the referee had no choice but to rule the match a double countout.

Rick "Model" Martel & The Orient Express defeated Tito Santana & The Rockers via pinfall. (7:08)

A fantastic, high flying six man tag match full of aerial tactics and double team moves was decided by an act of trickery from Martel, as he used Mr Fuji's cane to clock Santana, leaving Kato with an easy cover for the win.

WWF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH

The Ultimate Warrior defeated "Ravishing" Rick Rude via DQ. (3:37)

After all the build up a very disappointing match ended in a very quick, cheap DQ finish when Bobby "Brain" Heenan got involved in the match, saving his man.  Both Heenan and Rude left the ring area, smiling.  The smiles soon vanished however, when WWF President Jack Tunney announced that Rude will have to defend the I-C title at the next SNME against the Warrior, with Heenan barred from ringside!

Andre the Giant defeated Hercules via pinfall. (1:23)

This match was a throwback to days gone by as the Giant, for the first time in a long time, actually showed some interest in wrestling and in this brief match, completely dominated the "Mighty" Hercules.  After just 83 seconds he scored the victory and seemingly will be looking to make a run for some gold in the near future.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage defeated Jake "Snake" Roberts via countout. (11:58)

By far the most intense match of the night, these two battle hardened veterans went at each other from the opening bell until the end of the match, with practically no breather.  When the match spilled outside the ring, Savage picked up the timekeepers bell, a favourite weapon of old for the "Macho Man" and he connected with Roberts' head, leaving himself the easy task of rolling back into the ring, just in time to beat the referee's count and gain the victory.  Clearly, nothing was settled between these two men after this match.

WWF WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES MATCH

Demolition defeated BrainBusters via pinfall. (9:19)

After months of positioning themselves as the number one contenders Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson, collectively known as the BrainBusters, gave Ax and Smash all they could handle in this closely fought match.  Demolition just managed to squeak a victory but that will only make Bobby Heenan's men redouble their efforts to win the titles.

Dusty Rhodes defeated Mr Perfect via pinfall (8:37)

Mr Perfect has never been pinned in his WWF career, but that very proud record came to an end tonight, at the hands of the "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes.  A fine match was dominated by Perfect in the early stages but Rhodes showed tremendous resilience to comeback and land his Bionic Elbowdrop to gain the 1-2-3, leaving Perfect distraught in the ring at losing his perfect record.

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan & The Bushwhackers defeated Big Boss Man & The Bolsheviks via DQ. (13:34)

The second six man tag match of the night was a chaotic affair, not surprising considering Duggan and the Bushwhackers were involved.  Although significantly outweighed by their opponents, the match never settled down thanks to the unorthodox style of the New Zealanders.  Eventually, the Boss Man had enough and used his nightstick to restore order, at the cost of the match though.

Bad News Brown defeated "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka via pinfall. (6:19)

A fine match saw the loner from Harlem gain a well deserved victory over Snuka.  After the match Bad News made it clear he cared for no one and that nothing would suit him better than a title belt, regardless of who the champion is.

WWF WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH

"Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase defeated Hulk Hogan via submission. (1:59)

Amazing! It's the only word to describe what happened in tonights big Main Event.  After less than two minutes the great Hulk Hogan was forced to submit by the "Million Dollar Man" to give Ted DiBiase his first singles title in the WWF.  As for Hogan, things became clearer later in the night.

NOTES:

BREAKING NEWS!!!

On the back of his miserable showing in the WWF World Heavyweight Title Match, Hulk Hogan has quit the WWF!!  With no real explanation offered, he has simply walked out of his contract and the fans.  In a statement, the WWF expressed their surprise and disgust at Hogan's behaviour.  I doubt if we will ever see the "Hulkster" in a WWF ring ever again.

SATURDAY NIGHTS MAIN EVENT - SEPTEMBER 1989

The Powers of Pain defeated The Bushwhackers via pinfall. (5:26)

After several months in the doldrums The Barbarian and The Warlord looked to re-establish themselves as a powerful force within the tag team ranks.  They certainly achieved this as they dominated the match from start to finish and never gave The Bushwhackers a chance, collecting an easy victory.

Dino Bravo defeated Bret "Hitman" Hart via pinfall. (10:11)

A rare singles outing for the "Hitman" and he showed enough here to suggest that his future may lie outside the tag ranks, putting on a good performance against Bravo.  It was Bravo however, who gained the win with his patented side suplex move.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage defeated Tito Santana via pinfall. (20:08)

This match was a throwback to 1986 when these two men battled over the InterContinental title.  An excellent, thoroughly enjoyable match was decided when Savage used a handful of tights and his feet on the rope to gain a dubious 1-2-3.

WWF WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES MATCH

Demolition defeated BrainBusters by 2 falls to 1. (22:24)

The BrainBusters believed their better conditioning would serve them well in this longer format, but it was Demolition who showed they are more than power wrestlers by coming from 1 fall down to retain their tag team titles.

Andre the Giant defeated Brutus "Barber" Beefcake via pinfall. (13:57)

Andre continued his rise up the singles rankings with a powerful victory over Beefcake.  Beefcake is one of the top names in the WWF but that meant nothing to the Giant as he used his massive size to completely overpower Beefcake.  The end was only a matter of time and Andre used his patented big elbow to gain the pinfall win.

Greg "Hammer" Valentine defeated Koko B.Ware via pinfall. (18:05)

Valentine has been a top draw singles wrestler for many years but has been suffering a slump recently.  He used this match to show he still has the credentials to get back to the top and got a fine victory to start his climb back up the singles rankings in the WWF.  Koko is rapidly becoming a whipping boy for other wrestlers.

Dusty Rhodes defeated Bad News Brown via pinfall. (0:17)

This No.1 contenders match turned into a complete farce as Rhodes embarrassed Bad News by gaining victory in just 17 seconds!  Rhodes will now face the WWF Champion, "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase at the 1990 Royal Rumble match.

British Bulldog defeated Akeem via pinfall. (5:54)

Akeem tried to use his weight advantage against the Bulldog, but he was trying it on the wrong man as Davey Boy is one of the strongest men ever to set foot in a WWF ring.  The Bulldog is also an excellent technical wrestler and he was in complete control of this match when it was it was interrupted by Mr Perfect.  For reasons known only to himself, Perfect came to the ring and tried to assist Akeem.  His interference backfired however as the brass knuckles he threw in, were caught by the Bulldog and he used them to gain an easy win.

WWF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH

The Ultimate Warrior defeated "Ravishing" Rick Rude via pinfall. (14:57)

Finally, the Warrior got a chance to face the I-C champ without the possibility of any outside interference from Rude's manager Bobby Heenan, as he was banned from ringside for this one.  Some observers would say that having to rely on himself brought out the best in the "Ravishing" one as he put on a fantastic performance to try and hold onto his coveted title belt.  In the end though, the man from Parts Unknown was just too tough, and he overwhelmed Rude in the latter stages of the match to gain the pinfall win and regain the WWF InterContinental Title.

NOTES:

So, after just a few months in the WWF, Dusty Rhodes has already established himself as the number one contender for the WWF World Heavyweight Title.  Also, the Ultimate Warrior is once again the InterContinental Champion.

The captains have also been announced for the 1989 Survivor Series:

Dusty Rhodes' team v Ted DiBiase's team
Ultimate Warrior's team v Rick Rude's team
Hacksaw Duggan's team v Big Boss Man's team
Jake Roberts' team v Randy Savage's team
Roddy Piper's team v Honky Tonk Man's team

The full teams will be announced after the next SNME in October.

SURVIVOR SERIES 1989

Honky Tonk Man's team defeated "Rowdy" Roddy Piper's team. (25:19)

A match dominated by the team managed by Jimmy Hart quickly became 4 on 2 as The Hart Foundation were both eliminated early in the match, courtesy of Raymond Rougeau and Greg Valentine.  "Birdman" Koko B.Ware was next, pinned by Honky himself, leaving Piper on his own against 4 men.  Showing his usual firebrand style Piper had his moments, but it was just too much for him, and he finally succumbed to the Shake, Rattle and Roll from the Honky Tonk Man, and the match was over, with Honky's entire team surviving.

Jake "Snake" Roberts' team defeated "Macho Man" Randy Savage's team. (1:00:44)

The second match of the night was an excellent wrestling match from start to finish.  It took nearly 45 minutes, but eventually the match became 2 on 2 as both tag teams involved were all eliminated.  First to go was Kato, followed by Shawn Michaels, Tanaka and then Marty Janetty.  Roberts then used his patented DDT to eliminate Martel, and facing the prospect of taking on both the Snake and Tito Santana, the Macho Man decided to head for the hills and was counted out.

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan's team defeated Big Boss Man's team. (38:55)

The first surprise of the night came when "Hacksaw" introduced his mystery partner.  It turned out to be none other than Sgt. Slaughter!!  After the early elimination of The Barbarian, the match was dominated for a while by Boss Man's team, as they eliminated both Luke and Butch, The Bushwhackers.  Things were looking bad for Duggan and Slaughter but spurred on by the fans they managed to make a big comeback, eliminating first The Big Boss Man, then his partner Akeem, and finally they disposed of The mighty Warlord to gain the victory for their team.  Sgt. Slaughter certainly made a big impact on his return to the WWF and it will be interesting to see how he fares in the coming months.

"Ravishing" Rick Rude's team defeated The Ultimate Warrior's team. (43:03)

This match started encouragingly for the Warrior's team and they gained the first victory, eliminating Tully Blanchard early on.  After that though, Andre the Giant decided to make the difference, as first he absolutely crushed Hercules, then severely weakened Demolition Ax, making him easy prey to the Rude Awakening of the team captain.  Smash lasted for a while but once again it was the intervention of the Giant that saw him eliminated, leaving the Warrior in a 3 on 1 situation.  Although he put up a brave fight it was Andre who finally got the pinfall on the InterContinental champion to win the match for a smiling Bobby Heenan and his team.

"Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase's team defeated Dusty Rhodes' team. (49:59)

The final survival match of the night saw the World Champion "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase and his team take on Dusty Rhodes and his team.  It was DiBiase's team that got the first elimination with the impressive Mr Perfect, clearly a man on a mission here, pinning Brutus "Barber" Beefcake.  The biggest shock of the night came next as it was the World Champion who was the next man out, thanks to interference from his manservant Virgil, ending in a DQ.  The British Bulldog, Dino Bravo, "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka and Haku were all eliminated leaving just Rhodes and Mr Perfect to battle it out for victory.  Ultimately, it was Perfect who gained the win, thanks to some distraction from the Million Dollar Man, who had made his way back to ringside.

NOTES:

A fantastic night of action full of plenty of surprises made the 1989 Survivor Series a night to remember.  Dusty Rhodes will challenge Ted DiBiase for the WWF World Heavyweight Title at the 1990 Royal Rumble.  Also announced for the Rumble is an InterContinental Title match between Andre the Giant and the winner of the I-C title match at December's SNME between The Ultimate Warrior and "Ravishing" Rick Rude.  This time the match will be inside the confines of a steel cage!

Also at the next SNME there will be a 10 team Battle Royal to determine who will face Demolition at the Rumble.  The final match announced for the big event in January will pit "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan against the Big Boss Man.

Don't give up on this one. It's looking pretty good.
ianclarkPosted on 01/26/07 at 19:27:01

Thanks for the positive comments but I'm afraid my PC went a bit pear shaped and I lost this circuit.

Never fear though, cos I'm already working on a new circuit with the same start point.

Watch this space......

Cool. If you can, include the match ratings. I'm always interested in those.

Look out for the new circuit (in a new thread), in the next day or so....
