NWA World Title Tournament....

Masked_TexanPosted on 01/15/07 at 06:45:10

Okay, well, I've started over (again), but I think I have everything figured out enough to make this my last "restart" of my 1978-1992 era of wrestling.

So, to start out, I ran the NWA World Title Tournament.

It started 12/04/77 with qualifying matches, and the finals were held 1/1/78 in St. Louis, Missouri.

It was a 32 man tournament, but, with a twist.   I grouped them in "fours" and ran round robin matches in the groups.  The top 2 point winners in each group advanced.

All matches were best 2 out of 3 falls to a finish, no time limit, no count out, no disqualifications.

The finals was an Iron Man Match, most falls within the hour wins the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

So, without further delay, here are the groups....I'm not going to paste the results, but will put "Advanced" next to each wrestler that advanced to the next round....

Finals - 1/1/1978 St. Louis, MO

Ric Flair defeated Dick Slater 3 falls to 2, to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title.

After the match, Special Guest Referee Lou Thesz and NWA President Bob Geigel, hand Flair the Gold Domed NWA World Title.  Dick Slater attacks Flair from behind and throws him out of the ring!   Slater then preceeds to  piledrive Flair on the concrete!   Preliminary reports say that Flair suffered a neck injury and will be out for an indefinite amount of time.

Meanwhile, Slater, is stating his case with Geigel that if Flair cannot defend the title, then HE should be the champ!   Geigel gets on the house mic, that not only will Flair remain the champ, but that Dick Slater cannot get a rematch for the NWA World Title for 6 months!

Apologies if this is too long..... ;D
