[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 12/19/05

Snabbit888Posted on 11/14/06 at 10:00:53

The Augusta Civic Center in Augusta, Maine served host to Monday Night Explosion, the final Explosion of 2005! After Best of the Best, Brock Lesnar, the World Heavyweight champion, and Kurt Angle, the North American champion, are now also the World Tag Team champions after defeating the World's Greatest Tag Team last night. Their reign had the potential to be a short one though as Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin have enacted their rematch clause, and that will be our main event! That won't be the only title rematch though as Christopher Daniels defends the X Title against Kid Kash! Not only that, but Rob Van Dam teams up with AJ Styles and Bryan Danielson to take on CM Punk and the Basham Brothers, and we will hear from the winner of the Best of the Best tournament, Lance Storm, which actually kicked off our show.

LANCE STORM HOLDS A "CELEBRATION" FOR WINNING THE TOURNEY
The show began with Lance Storm, the winner of the Best of the Best tournament, throwing himself as he called it a "lavish celebration." This lavish celebration included three balloons falling from the ceiling and Storm blowing a party favor once. The crowd booed Storm's lack of enthusiasm and overall personality, but the fact remains that he still won the tournament and therefore can have any match he wants against any opponent at February's Beat Your Valentine. Storm wasted no time in picking his match, saying that regardless of who is the champion then, he wants a shot at the World Heavyweight Title. With Storm's immense wrestling skill and his willingness to win under any circumstances, he could add the World Title to his resume'. One man not happy with Storm winning the tournament was MONTY BROWN, the man who lost in the finals thanks to some nefarious tactics from Storm. Brown was furious and challenged Storm to a fight then and there, but instead he got a 2-on-1 beatdown when Edge jumped him from behind with a chair. Brown was unapproachable backstage because he was throwing things all around looking for Storm and Edge, but they were long gone as they got into their car and drove off. Storm may have a title shot coming in two months, but if he can't stay away from the Alpha Male, he may be wrestling that match from a hospital bed.

Match #1
"The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam/"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles/"American Dragon" Bryan Danielson vs. CM Punk/The Basham Brothers (w/ Shaniqua & Daffney)
Six man tag team action was first on our wrestling card as Rob Van Dam, AJ Styles, and Bryan Danielson took on CM Punk and the Basham Brothers. Both RVD and Punk were involved in the Best of the Best Tournament, being knocked out in the semi-finals. They would be on opposite sides tonight, but the extra partners made this a great contest. The Bashams and Styles/Danielson are two of the great tag teams that make up the tag division in GCW, and it can only be a matter of time before they are all in the tag title hunt yet again. The match itself was a good one that where the momentum shifted several times, but in the end RVD's experience allowed him to put Danny Basham away with the Five Star Frog Splash. CM Punk was disappointed with the loss, but he seemed more set on making sure Van Dam suffered as he viciously and seemingly unnecessarily brutalized RVD in a post-match attack. Punk's rage was seemingly coming out of nowhere as he busted RVD wide open using the ring bell hammer. Styles and Danielson were unable to assist as the Bashams were laying quite the beating on them as well. Luckily for RVD, he'll have two weeks to recover before we return in 2006, but we will be left with the questions of why Punk unleashed an assault such as this on the Whole F'n Show.

AJ Styles, Bryan Danielson and Rob Van Dam defeated The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) and CM Punk when RVD pinned Danny Basham with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:12:17.
Rating: ****

Match #2
D-Ray 3000 vs. "Prime Time" Elix Skipper
Looking around the roster of GCW, you might be hard pressed to find someone who is on a bigger roll than Elix Skipper. He has been making his intentions to go for the X Title very clear backstage, and could be the first man to get a shot come the new year. The winning ways continued tonight against D-Ray 3000. D-Ray had a great time entertaining the fans, but his great time came to a dramatic halt once the match started. It wasn't long before it was Prime Time after the Play of the Day.

Elix Skipper pinned D-Ray 3000 with the Play of the Day in 0:03:10.
Rating: *** 3/4

THE BWO VISITS TOMMY DREAMER BEARING GIFTS
The Blue World Order's reign of annoyance continued as they "took over" Tommy Dreamer's office. This was the kindest take over in history though as they weren't there to use force, but rather to bring Dreamer some Christmas gifts. Stevie and Meanie were hoping to get themselves put into the main event and for the World Tag Team Title match to be made a 3-way. Dreamer was listening, until he opened the present the bWo had brought him - a Blue Meanie dance DVD. Dreamer was so disgusted by this that he told the bWo they would be in a match, but not the main event. Instead, they would wrestle Chris Benoit and Frankie Kazarian.

Match #3
X Title Match
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (c) vs. "The Notorious K.I.D." Kid Kash
Since the end of Best of the Best last night, Kid Kash has been whining about how he should be the X champion now. Daniels is a competitor, and despite the injuries he has been wrestling with, he decided to give Kash and early Christmas present and grant him a rematch, but on one condition - Lance Hoyt be banned from ringside. Kash agreed, and we had ourselves a highly competitive X Title match. During this match, ELIX SKIPPER was seen backstage watching from a monitor, obviously scouting what could be his future opponents. The Fallen Angel continues to impress by wrestling through his injuries, and though he is in a lot of pain, he continues to win. Kash's whining couldn't help him through this match as Daniels hit the Angel's Wings and will go into 2006 as the X champion.

Christopher Daniels pinned Kid Kash with the Angel's Wings in 0:07:02.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Christopher Daniels retained the GCW X Title.)

SHARMELL DOESN'T LIKE WHAT REY MYSTERIO JR. IS BRINGING TO THE TEAM
Before our next match, Booker T was in the back with Sharmell. Booker looked a little down, obviously not happy that he got the loser's purse last night when he and Rey Mysterio Jr. lost to the new look MNM. Sharmell told Booker she figured out why they lost and implied that Mysterio is the weak link of the team. Booker didn't want to hear it and told Sharmell to stop it, but Sharmell had definitely planted the seed. When Mysterio came into the room and asked them what they were talking about, Booker looked at Sharmell before softly saying, "Nothing."

Match #4
Rey Mysterio Jr./Booker T (w/ Sharmell) vs. MNM (w/ Melina)
Tonight was a night of rematches, and we had another hear as Booker T and Rey Mysterio Jr. took on the new MNM, Johnny Nitro and the returning Shannon Moore. Booker and Mysterio had trouble adjusting to Moore last night, but they were prepared for it tonight and thus wrestled a much better match. Despite what Sharmell had said to Booker before the match, he and Mysterio had it together and looked like they were going to get one up on MNM. Mysterio got caught in the ring late and took quite a beating from MNM, but he fought back and was in perfect position to make a tag out to Booker. However, Mysterio saw the opening to hit the West Coast Pop. He went for it, but Moore wasn't nearly wore down enough for that as he countered with a big power bomb. The air was driven out of Mysterio's lungs and he was unable to kick out.

MNM (Shannon Moore and Johnny Nitro) defeated Booker T and Rey Mysterio Jr. when S. Moore pinned Mysterio Jr. after a power bomb in 0:13:22.
Rating: *** 1/4

Booker came to the aid of Mysterio after the match and checked on his fallen partner, but Sharmell was giving him a look that said, "I told you so." Booker shook it off, but it's obvious that there are things going on in his head.

Match #5
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit/Frankie "The Future" Kazarian vs. The Blue World Order
You have to applaud Stevie Richards and The Blue Meanie for their efforts, but boy, they just keep getting their asses kicked. Tonight, much like last night, it was at the hands of Chris Benoit and Frankie Kazarian. Kazarian is really picking up steam since being under the watchful eye of Benoit, adopting some of the Crippler's trademark intensity. Richards and Meanie didn't stand a chance and it didn't take long for the bWo to notch one in the loss column. Looks like we'll have to wait until 2006 for this "takeover."

Chris Benoit and Frankie Kazarian defeated The bWo (The Blue Meanie and Stevie Richards) when Kazarian pinned Richards with the Wave of the Future in 0:02:22.
Rating: ** 3/4

RANDY ORTON IS THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE CORPORATION
Our next segment saw the entire Corporation - John Bradshaw Layfield, Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, Bobby Lashley, and Lamont - welcome the newest member, Randy Orton. Last night, Bobby Lashley unexpectedly assisted Orton in defeating Abyss in the Ambulance Match. Orton explained to everyone that JBL approached him and said that with the Corporation's help, he could tune all of his rage and potential into something special, and make a lot of money in the process. At this point, Tommy Dreamer came out and told the Corporation to enjoy their evening while they could, because Lashley and Orton were going to be wrestling a tag team match, and they were going to be doing it right now.

Match #6
Abyss/Rhyno vs. Bobby Lashley/Randy Orton (w/ The Corporation)
JBL was hoping this night would be a celebration for the holidays, but instead his Corporation got coal in their stocking as Bobby Lashley and new member Randy Orton had to wrestle an impromptu match against two men who would like very little else for Christmas than to see them bleed, Abyss and Rhyno. Despite who the opposition was, Lashley and Orton were not nearly as concerned as JBL was, who was sweating with nervousness throughout this entire contest. Lashley and Orton didn't mind much as they love to fight, even if it is two behemoths like Abyss and Rhyno. However, the "element of surprise" of having to wrestle a match played a part here as despite the dominance of Lashley, Orton eventually got caught in the ring and nailed with both the Gore and the Black Hole Slam. Lashley wanted to get in the ring to break it up, but JBL urgently held him back which allowed Abyss and Rhyno to walk away with the victory.

Rhyno and Abyss defeated The Corporation (Bobby Lashley and Randy Orton) when Abyss pinned R. Orton with the Black Hole Slam in 0:11:43.
Rating: *** 1/4

Match #7
MAIN EVENT
World Tag Team Title Match
Brock Lesnar/Kurt Angle (c) vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team
Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin, generally known as the top tag team in the world today, found themselves in an unfamiliar position in our main event as they were not the defending World Tag Team champions, but rather the challengers for the coveted championship, currently held by World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and North American champion Kurt Angle. Haas and Benjamin had some communication problems 24 hours back when greed got the better of them, but the World and North American Titles were not on the line this time, allowing the World's Greatest Tag Team to fully focus on getting back the titles. Haas and Benjamin were much more in tune than they were a night ago, and as a result, Lesnar and Angle were in a lot more jeopardy than I think a lot of people thought they would be. However, Lesnar and Angle continue to gel as a team as their elite physical prowess allowed them to keep the titles in a hard fought match to close out 2005, much to the chagrin of John Bradshaw Layfield.

Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle defeated The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) when Lesnar pinned S. Benjamin after a powerslam in 0:16:55.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

A great way to end the show and the year of wrestling! But we're not done yet! Be sure to join us next week for a special presentation from GCW as we will announce the winners of the 2005 Year-End Awards! Happy holidays everyone!
