What an excellent tag-team match. Why wasn't this on the main show?

SMACKDOWN

Welcome to Betlehem, Pennsylvania! We're twelve days removed from Summer Slam 2007, which was a formidable success for WWC. SummerSlam saw Chris Benoit take the WWC Heavyweight Title away from Rey Mysterio in a thrilling match. We also witnessed a spectacular main event, where the Second City Saints retained their straps after an awesome spot by CM Punk, where he superplexed Mercury off of the 15 foot steel cage. This show marks a milestone in WWC as well, being the first show on its new, weekly schedule. We'll go straight to the ring, where Rey Mysterio is looking to get back on the winning track against Paul London.

Paul London vs Rey Mysterio

Rey looked naked as he made his way to the ring without his WWC World Heavyweight Title. He shook hands with Paul London, and set about to work on his fellow cruiserweight. The two flyers gave us an entertaining opening match, and London did have his offensive periods on the former champ. Maybe the loss to Benoit at Summerslam was still in the back of Rey's mind, he just couldn't find his A game most of the time. Rey finally got a grip when he avoided the 450. Rey hit London with the sitdown faceslam, before he dropped the dime on him. London tried a comeback, but Rey deftly avoided the Running Forearm, before he tripped him into the ropes. A 619 and WCP later, and Rey had won the match.

Rey Misterio pinned Paul London with the West Coast Pop in 0:09:44.

- Rey picked up a microphone, and said that twelve days ago, he was a big let down. He let down the wrestling industry, his family, and himself. Anyone wanted him to win, to prove Benoit's methods wrong. Still, with no outside help, Benoit managed to one-up Rey and take his belt away from him. Rey told Benoit to come out, so that they could agree to a rematch. Benoit came out to a big chorus of boos. Benoit said that anytime was good for him, he knew perfectly well about the rematch clause. Rey was possible on his way to call out Shane, when John Cena hit the ring. Cena said that Rey could get in line, as he was up next. Cena told Benoit that his win over RVD at Summer Slam made him the top contender. Cena was then blindsided when someone slid into the ring, attacking him with lefts and rights. It was van Dam! As Cena and RVD continued their brawl outside, Benoit saw fit to ambush Rey from behind as well, putting the ex-champ in the Crippler's Crossface, the very same move that won him the belt. Rey reached the ropes this time, but Benoit didn't let go (duh, it isn't a match, exactly). But then, Randy Orton runs down in his street clothes, tearing Benoit away from Rey and tossing him over the ropes. Orton goes to check on Rey, who doesn't quite understand why Orton is all of a sudden being a good samaritan. Smackdown goes to commercial as Orton invites Benoit back into the ring. Benoit waves him off, and brandishes his new championship.

Colt Cabana w/CM Punk & Melina vs Juventud w/Super Crazy & Psicosis

Shane McMahon has signed a tag-team title match next week, where the Mexicools cash in their promised shot for winning the Tag Team World Cup. Tonight would be a taste on what to come, as the Juice took on Colt Cabana. Both the rest of the Mexicools and Punk and Melina were ringside, cheering on the match, but neither party did anything.

Colt tried to get into Juventud's head by playing the comedy routine on him, and it worked. Juvi was enraged at Colt's apparent lack of respect for him, which gave Colt many openings. Juvi did get a hold of Colt eventually, hitting him with the Air Juvy when Colt tried to take a breather. Juventud dominated Cabana for a while, but when he went for the Juvi Driver, Colt countered into a small package for the win. Juvi grudgingly shook Colt's hand afterwards, but the Mexicools then motioned for the Saints' belts, indicating that they would become tag champs next week.

Colt Cabana pinned Juventud after a small package in 0:10:29.

- We see video footage of Cpt. Burchill and First Mate Spud drowning their sorrows at a local tavern, moaning about how the Amazing Darkstone fooled them all along, just to get their gold. William Regal makes his return to TV as he comes over to them and tries to persuade them to come back to wrestling. He says that Spud can overcome this on his own, and if not, well, he can be Burchill's manager or something. Burchill thanks him for the advice, but says that they are pirates, and doesn't listen to the pirate hunters like Regal. Regal rolls his eyes and walks back out.

- Josh Matthews interviews Jamie Noble about the questionable way he retained his Strong-Style championship against KENTA. Noble and his manager, Dusty Rhodes don't understand what Josh is talking about. KENTA couldn't do the job, simple as that. And now that Noble had scared KENTA back to Japan, he eagerly awaited the next challenger. The last was said very sarcastically, as we all know that Noble doesn't feel he has competition here in WWC. Suddenly, Noble's eyes are wide open, as KENTA stops by! KENTA says in broken English: "I hired by Zane McMan. I'm USA now. I want re-match!" Josh smiles and asks Noble if he thinks he has found himself his next challenger already.

Merciless w/Lacey vs Brian Kendrick

Brian Kendrick didn't stand a chance against the Bavarian Butcher here tonight. Lacey and Merciless wanted to make a statement as well, and after Kendrick was taken down with a powerbomb, Merciless hit him several times in the chest with a baseball bat. Simon Diamond and Paul London both came in to try and stop him, but both got the same treatment. Lacey is slowly building herself an unstoppable monster!

Merciless pinned Brian Kendrick after a powerbomb in 0:04:31.

- Merciless and Lacey are returning after the match, when Merciless expresses his disappointment with Lacey's decision at Summer Slam to let Nitro fight instead of him. He says that Nitro had too much ring rust, and that if he had been on the team, they would've regained the tag-team belts. Lacey said that she had other plans for him, and that he was the only one of the three she saw as a WWC Heavyweight Champion some day. She told Merciless he was the best wrestler in MNM, and that he shouldn't have to bother with the tag-belts. Merciless ego improved significantly as he went into the showers. Lacey turns toward the camera and scoffs. "Men, they are so easily manipulated." MNM walk in next, and Lacey greets them both with a hug, asking how the best tag-team in the world is doing. She says she has to run for her match.

Daizee Haze vs Lacey vs Melina

Melina and Lacey in a re-match from Summer Slam, this time with the carefree hippie Daizee Haze thrown in. Lacey and Melina went at it, and Daizee didn't get involved before the fourth minute, when she broke a pin attempt from Lacey. Lacey then turned her attention to Daizee, and hit her with a german suplex and a lung blower for a two count. Daizee started working over Lacey now, nailing her with a devastating yakuza kick. Melina broke the cover, and had to deal with Haze. Haze connected with the heart punch - running knee combo on Melina, but before she could cover, Lacey threw Daizee's ass over the ropes and made the cover herself, stealing another win here in WWC.

- We're in Shane McMahon's office, where Paul Heyman is pitching an idea to him. He tells him that a couple of Randy Orton's mates from prison is up for parole soon, and the prison board is worried that their violent tendencies will take over as soon as they are out. Heyman says he has an idea about using them in WWC. Apparently, they're quite decent fighters, and if their aggressive tendencies are restricted to the wrestling ring, they might not do so in real life. Shane isn't so sure about this, but asks Paul to bring the guys in next week for a chat.

- Test is dragging Josh Matthews along the corridors. Josh doesn't quite know what's going on, but Test stops by Kennedy's locker room, knocking hard. Kennedy opens carefully, security chain locked. Kennedy says he's still got a doctor's note, slipping a piece of paper to Test. Kennedy says he's sorry, but he can't fight. Test breaks down the door and pushes Kennedy up against the wall. Kennedy warns Test about doing something, and mumbles something about his lawyer. Kennedy apologizes again, but tells Test that he has spoken to Shane about it, and Shane has offered Test tonight's main event. A match against John Cena. Test says that he cannot turn down that match, but that Kennedy's health better improve, fast. Or else it would deteriorate, faster.

Hart Foundation (Teddy Hart & Harry Smith) vs MNM (Joey Mercury & Johhny Nitro) w/Lacey

MNM really needed a win here to come back on track. It hasn't been long since Joey Mercury took that painful bump when he was superplexed off of the 15 foot steel cage at Summer Slam, and Harry and Teddy tried to focus a lot of their attention to Mercury's back.

Whether it was the fact that Nitro and Mercury were finally together again, or if it was because they didn't have the tag-team belts to consider anymore is unknown, but MNM worked together as a cohesive unit far better now than in the past months. The Canadians could not get their act together, and when Hart went high risk without making sure his opponents were down, it had to go wrong. MNM lifted him down from the turnbuckle while Lacey pulled Harry Smith off the apron and gave him a kick in the nuts. Hart felt the Snapshot and MNM took the victory in this match. Mercury and Nitro said they were going to win back the gold, but Lacey told them to hold that thought until they were ready.

John Cena vs Test

Test is still enraged by the fact that Kennedy is trying, and succeeding, in eluding him. Even so, a win against John Cena would propel Test back into title contention, and at the start of the match, Test had every intention of doing so. The two brawlers slugged at each other throughout the match, and Test had Cena's number on several occasions, countering a You Got Served attempt into a backdrop, and nailing Cena with a powerslam for a two-count. Cena rolled on the outside, but Test followed, and the two brawled at ringside.

Cena got the momentum back when he slammed Test's head into the ring bell, and followed it up by sending Test into the ring post. Back inside the ring, Cena was met by a big boot and an elbowdrop for a close call. Test tried to get Cena up in the Test Drive, but Cena low-blowed him. Cena then took Test down with the You Got Served for the win.

After the match, RVD ran in and started brawling with Cena. Test was watching, when Kennedy came from behind and clipped his knee with a chair, then smashing it in RVD's face. Cena and Kennedy then beat on Test and RVD until security broke it up.

Glad to see the Mexicools now in title contention.. Which two is it going to be? And what's going to happen to Dojo?

Good job making Benoit into a huge prick. It always seemed like he could be if he fully committed himself to it.

I'm surprised to see MNM doing so well considering Nitro's ring rust and Mercury's huge bump. Who is Merciless, anyways? New guy, or old guy re-named?
rey619Posted on 10/13/06 at 15:05:57

Merciless has been with the company a while. It's really Chris the Bambikiller, an Austrian wrestler. I'm not sure if he has wrestled much in the US, but I think he had an OVW tryout once.

He's big and bad, but quite athletic too.
