Bash at the Beach 1996

PPV Pre-Show on PreVue Channel
Harlem Heat (Stevie Ray and Booker T) and
The Steiner Brothers (Rick Steiner and Scott Steiner) battled to a draw in 0:20:00.
Rating: *** 1/2

The match went back and forth and back and forth.  There were many near falls, the closest occurring at the bell.  Booker T hit the Harlem Hangover and got a 2 count as the bell rang for the time limit draw.  All 4 men continued to fight all the way to the backstage area.  This feud is far from over.

Announcement: Tony Schavonie & Dusty Rhodes announced that Eric Bischoff was presumably kidnapped.  We can only assume that the Invaders are responsible.

Rey Misterio pinned Psicosis with the Power Bomb in 0:15:31.
Rating: ** 3/4

These stars of the Lucha Libre style are making a huge impact here in WCW.  The finish came when Psicosis came off the top turnbuckle for a Huricanrana and Misterio reversed it into a devastating powerbomb.

Interview: Konnan is seen with Mean Gene Okerland
K: Mean Gene, Ric Flair thinks he is all big and bad, but he's just a thug.  He walks around with his entourage thinking they can take what they want.  They walk in numbers and beat down those that stand up to them.  They aren't big or bad.  They are just another street gang.  I've dealt with their kind all over Mexico.  I will be cautious and I will come out with the victory.  Arriba.

Carson City Silver Dollar Match:
John Tenta pinned Big Bubba Rogers with the Earthquake Vertical Splash in 0:12:59.
Rating: * ½

It was very evident that there was no love lost between these two men.  The object of this match was not to get a victory, but to hurt their opponent.  Bib Bubba got to the roll of silver dollars first, but as he was attempting a Double axe-handle with the roll of silver dollars, Bubba was caught in mid air by a charging Tenta and slammed into the corner in a somewhat of a vertical version of the Earthquake Splash.  The three count was academic at that point.  Rogers was carried out on a stretcher by EMTs.

Taped Fist Match:
Diamond Dallas Page pinned Jim Duggan with the Diamond Cutter in 0:16:35.
Rating: -** ½

Page jumped Duggan before the bell and held control of the match.  Duggan had a few attempts at an offensive comeback, but to no avail.  Diamond Cutter for his troubles and DDP gloats as he leave a bloodied Hacksaw in the ring.

Double Dog Collar Match:
The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags) defeated
Public Enemy (Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge) when Sags pinned Grunge after a flying elbowdrop in 0:14:51.
Rating: ** 3/4
[David Taylor and Steven Regal interfered against Johnny Grunge.]

A brutal match between two very hardcore teams, to say the least.  We saw tables, chairs, trash cans and the Dog collar chains used as weapons.  Blood was everywhere.  The end of the match saw the Bluebloods use a chair on Johnny Grunge from behind and Sags hit a top rope elbow to send Public Enemy to Nastyville.

Dean Malenko made Eddie Guerrero submit to the Texas Cloverleaf in 0:09:40.
Rating: ****
(Dean Malenko retained the WCW Cruiserweight Champion.)

By and far, this was the match of the night.  Two exciting cruiserweights, fighting back and forth.  There were many pinfall attempts.  In the end, it was the man of 1000 holds with his Texas Cloverleaf for the victory.

Disco Inferno pinned Billy Kidman with the Last Dance in 0:12:26.
Rating: ***

In recent weeks we have seen these two at odds.  In the end, Disco gets the win.  Kidman went for his shooting star press and missed, allowing Disco to hit his Last Dance Finisher.

Ric Flair defeated Konnan when Konnan passed out in the Figure-Four Leglock in 0:16:56.
Rating: ****
(Ric Flair won the WCW US Champion.)

Ric flair showed just why he is called the dirtiest player in the game.  He held nothing back and in the end, the ref was distracted and Flair's valet, Elizabeth used her purse to knock konnan out.  It was shown after the match that she had a brick in her purse.

Kevin Sullivan and The Giant defeated
The Horsemen (Arn Anderson and Chris Benoit) when K. Sullivan pinned
Anderson after a gutwrench suplex in 0:17:53.
Rating: ** 1/2

During the match, Woman comes down to ringside and stands in the Horsemen's corner.  She is all but begging Benoit to stop this madness and not to hurt Sullivan any more.  While he was arguing with her, Anderson gets the wrong end of the deal as the Giant uses the ring bell on him and Sullivan gets the pin following a gutwrench suplex.

Shawn Michaels, Jake Roberts and Mystery Partner and Sting, Lex Luger and Randy Savage went to a No Contest.

Team WCW came to the ring first; all 3 members had their faces painted in Signature Stinger fashion.  Michaels and Roberts came out without their Mystery Partner.

Sting gets a mic and asks where their partner is, Michaels only says that they will be along soon enough, and delivers the first punch.  All 5 men are in the ring brawling.  Luger goes to the Apron and heads for the turnbuckle, but Roberts manages to throw Savage into the ropes and into Luger.  This sends Luger face first into the guard rail and knocks him out cold.  Ringside officials help him to the back and our match is now two on two.  The referee finally gets some order and we have Sting and Michaels in the ring and Savage and Roberts in their respective corners.  The Invaders work like a well oiled machine working Sting over and keeping him away from his corner.  After minutes of being pounded, Sting makes the hot tag to Savage and rolls out onto the apron.  The Invaders remain in full control of the match.  With Sting still down in the corner, and Savage being worked over, the match is fully in the hands of Michael and Roberts.  Michaels starts showboating as Roberts hits Savage with the DDT.  Who is that up at the stage?  It can't be!  It Is!  It's Hulk Hogan!  He has been gone for quite some time!  As he slides in the ring, Roberts and Michaels take the easy way out and leave to the floor area.  Hogan stops to check on Savage.  Sting is up, he grabs Hogan by the little bit of hair he has, and executes an inverted DDT on Hogan.  The crowd goes silent as the Invaders enter the ring again, smiling as they embrace Sting.  What is this?  It can't be!  Sting has turned his back on WCW and joined the Invaders!
