WWC Smackdown - 07.27.07

Due to an unfortunate server error, there were no webcast dark matches tonight. For those who want to know the results, the dark matches were:

Harry Smith d. Burchill
William Regal d. Aaron Stevens

We welcome you to Sioux City, Iowa, the final stop before the biggest party of the summer, SummerSlam 2007! In tonight's main event, Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio renew their alliance when they go up against John Cena and Chris Benoit. Also, Shane McMahon will unveil his big announcement tonight, so this a show you won't miss. First, let's go to the ring, where we have some tag-team action to kick of the show.

Simon Diamond & Brian Kendrick vs La Resistance (Rob Conway & Rene Dupree)

Brian Kendrick recently abandoned his tag-team with Paul London, maybe his partner for the night, Simon Diamond would help his career? La Resistance lost their first match here two weeks ago against Second City Saints, but was ready to bounce straight back here in the opening contest.

Rene and Rob worked over Kendrick for the first three or four minutes, hitting him with several double moves. Kendrick finally got a break when he hit Conway with the leg lariat, and made the tag to Simon. The brawler from Bronx didn't fare much better, and it was only a matter of time. Dupree hit him with the DVD onto the knee, and Conway soared with the flying legdrop for their trademark finisher, Au Revoir. Nice opener, and La Resistance is looking strong. A couple more of these, and they will be straight back in title contention.

- Shane McMahon walks down the aisle. The crowd is obviously awaiting his big announcement. Shane talks about the sudden demise of his father, and the new wrestling war that came about as a result. He says that even if WWC is improving their numbers, both TV ratings and crowd attendance, they can never compete with WEW and TNA as it currently is. That is why he is pleased to announce that as of next month, WWC gets it's long-awaited two-hour weekly slot! The crowd cheer for this news, but is suddenly interrupted by "The Time is Now", and John Cena making his way to the ring. The Doctor of Thuganomics congratulate Shane on this, but wants to give Shane a piece of advice that will skyrocket the ratings. Give him a World Heavyweight Title shot. Shane says that things don't work that way over here. Shane says he knows Cena was a World Champ in WEW and in the old WWE, but over here, he needs to earn title shots. One win over Simon Diamond's not gonna cut it. Suddenly, Cena snaps and pushes Shane into one corner, threatening the chairman to give him his title shot. Shane desperately tries to get away, but Cena is too strong for him. The crowd cheer for RVD, and he comes running in, sliding into the ring as Cena slides out of it. Cena tells Shane that he will defeat that piece of trash on Sunday, and then, he will have his title match.

Genki Horiguchi w/the Dojo vs Juventud w/Mexicools

Before this match, Taz and Cole tell us that Shane has signed a six-man tag match for SummerSlam, pitting the Dojo against Mexicools. The Mexican - Japanese war continued here tonight, as Genki Horiguchi took on the returning Juventud.

This was as expected, a fast-paced and hard-hitting match. Some awesome spots included Genki hitting Juvi with a headscissors on the outside, catapulting the Juice into the guardrail. Juvi also connected with the Air Juvy, eliciting a "this is awesome chant" from the crowd. A few minutes later, Juventud hit the Juvi Driver, but Naruki Doi pulled the ref away. For some reason, ref Korderas didn't call for the dq, which allowed Super Crazy to enter the ring and smash Genki in the head with a trashcan. Dragon Kid then hit the ring, and soon it was chaos. Korderas threw out the match, but the six cruisers kept on fighting. It was kendo sticks versus trashcans, Asai moonsault versus Quesadoras, ranas versus... uh... anyway, security came out and tried to separate the warring factions, but the Dojo got the final laugh when Doi cracked a stick over Juventud's face, opening up a gash on his forehead.

Juventud defeated Genki Horiguchi by disqualification in 0:11:51.

- Cpt. Burchill and Spud sit despondently in their cave, Burchill absent-mindedly picking in his chest of Spanish gold, when the Amazing Darkstone enters. The illusionist asks whether or not they have acquired virgin blood. The pirates say that they have been unsuccesful so far, as all the girls in WWC are more or less sluts. Darkstone asks if they have asked all the guys. Spud and Burchill look at each other in disbelief. They hadn't thought about that! Burchill then says that he doesn't believe anyone he knows is a virgin, but that he might as well ask. Spud stops him, looks down, and says rather embarrasingly that... well... he is still a virgin. Burchill slaps Spud, telling him that it's no point in him being a virgin. He can't bloody sacrifice the person who's to be cured. Darkstone then clarifies a little, saying that you only need a small pinch of blood, but that the ritual most wait until Sunday. Burchill says this is extremely good news, and that he will go to Shane right away, asking for a pre-show match at SummerSlam, if nothing else.

Mr. Kennedy vs Test

Kennedy has been bragging a lot since his return from injury, but his win streak stopped short two weeks ago when he was dq'ed against Test when he hit him with the ring bell. Tonight was his return match. Kennedy was very confident, introducing himself as "one helluva physical specimen".

Kennedy looked confident in the match as well, earning two close falls early on with first a crucifix, then a DDT. He kept working on Test's left arm with hammerlocks and cravates, but Test soon put Kennedy in his place with a powerslam. Test is not the greatest technical wrestler in the world, but he is a proficient brawler, and he gets the job done. The two were brawling on the outside, and Test bodyslammed Kennedy onto the steel steps. Kennedy clutched his back, and didn't appear interested in coming back to the ring. Test went outside to get him, obviously not interested in a lousy countout victory, but Kennedy low-blowed him and walked to the back. Test got in before the count of 10, but yet again, Test couldn't pin Kennedy.

Test defeated Ken Kennedy by countout in 0:09:10.

- After the break, we learn that a match has been signed between Test and Mr Kennedy at Summerslam, if Kennedy is in any shape to wrestle, that is.

- We see more footage from Japan, including a three minute clip from Jamie Noble defending his WWC Strong-Style Championship against KENTA. We see Noble getting his ass kicked for most of the match, but when the ref is knocked out, Dusty Rhodes hands Noble the belt, and KENTA is whacked straight between the eyes. When the ref recovers, Noble has KENTA in the Dragon Sleeper, and the ref announces that KENTA has passed out. We also see a post-match interview with KENTA, where the Japanese superstar expresses his wish to go to USA to fight Noble for the title on American PPV. We then learn that Shane McMahon has granted KENTA this wish! Apparently, it's gonna be KENTA vs Jamie Noble for the WWC Strong-Style Championship!

Second City Saints (CM Punk, Colt Cabana & Melina) vs MNM (Joey Mercury & Merciless) & Lacey in a 6-person intergender tag-team match

Intergender six-person tag team match as MNM and Lacey took on Second City Saints and Melina.

The intergender rules in WWC says that you can have male - female in the ring at the same time, but only for 5 seconds. After that, the male team can be dq'ed if they don't let the woman tag. Merciless almost got a hold of Melina early on, but she crawled through his legs and tagged her boyfriend, CM Punk who assaulted the Austrian with rights and lefts.

Cabana's perpetual jokes seemed to enrage MNM at times. After giving Mercury a stomachbuster, he pulled down his pants and smacked him several times on his exposed backside. He then tricked Lacey into making a tag, and hiptossed her into the ring, trying to do the same with her. Merciless and Mercury quickly intercepted Cabana, and brought him to the outside, where Punk joined them in a brawl. Melina and Lacey then engaged in some chain-wrestling, before Lacey connected with the Floatover Implant DDT for the win. On the outside, Nitro's presence made sure that MNM controlled the brawl. As Nitro were choking Punk with his crutch, Merciless and Mercury manhandled Cabana. Lacey ordered Merciless to bring a table into the ring, and the European obeyed. He set up the table and put Melina on top. Lacey then climbed up on the turnbuckles and came crashing down with a flying legdrop, driving Melina through the table. MNM left laughing as Punk checked on Melina, who was barely moving.

We have since learned that Melina and Lacey will face each other one on one at Summerslam.

with the Floatover Implant DDT in 0:10:40.

- Taz and Michael Cole run down the Summerslam card.

- We see footage from a courtroom, where Randy Orton is up for parole. Orton speaks about being completely innocent in the kidnapping of Rey Mysterio's family. He says he blatantly tried to take advantage of the situation in order to defeat Rey Mysterio, and that he is sorry. He says that if he is paroled, that he will return to wrestling for one reason only, to prevent the cancer that is Chris Benoit from destroying wrestling. Rey Mysterio testifies as well, saying that even though he dislikes Randy Orton, several things that Benoit has said and done may point the blame in his direction. He may very well have removed all evidence of his wrongdoing, but that does not mean an innocent man has to be behind bars. Rey therefore advises the court to parole Randy Orton. The judge then rules in favor of Randy Orton, who is paroled and allowed back on Smackdown under Paul Heyman's care.

John Cena & Chris Benoit vs Rey Mysterio & Rob Van Dam

Major main event here tonight as John Cena and Chris Benoit teamed up together to take on Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio. Rey and RVD have seemingly buried the hatchet, and has agreed to team up against their enemies. Alfonso has not been seen since Cena's unprovoked attack two weeks ago, and van Dam had a great deal to avenge.

Cena has already made his intentions clear, and that is to go for the WWC World Heavyweight Title, currently held by Rey Mysterio. His "you can't see me" routine aimed at the champ was not taken lightly by the fans, who booed him vehemently.

This was a very competetive and emotionally charged match, where we had several confrontations and staredowns. Rey and Benoit tangled first, engaging each other in a series of armdrags and locks which ended in a stalemate. They then both tagged their partners in. Cena and RVD really went at it. While it looks like the Benoit/Rey feud is more or less based on disappointment and contempt, RVD and Cena's is based on hatred, at least from van Dam's part. Bill Alfonso was Rob's best friend in ECW, and was largely responsible for his success there.

Several breath-taking spots here as well. Benoit hitting Rey with a belly-to-belly superplex, and Cena driving RVD through a table on the outside with the You Can't See Me powerbomb. Rey had to fight off both men for quite some time while Rob recuperated. As Van Dam recuperated, Bill Alfonso made his way down the aisle, a black eye and bandaged nose showing the result of Cena's attack. Alfonso helped Van Dam back on his feet and watched the match for some time before getting himself involved. Benoit and Rey were fighting on the outside, and Cena had RVD ready for a powerbomb, when Alfonso grabbed Cena's chain and smacked him right in the face with it (the ref was down, by the way). Van Dam made the Five-Star as Alfonso revived the ref, as the face team stole the victory.

What was even more shocking was when Randy Orton ran down the aisle in street clothes, attacking Chris Benoit from behind. Orton clubbed away at Benoit, and shoved Rey Mysterio away when he tried to intervene. The Dojo came down to chase Orton away from their benefactors, but it's quite obvious that Randy Orton is pissed at Benoit, pissed big time.

Rob Van Dam and Rey Misterio defeated John Cena and Chris Benoit when RVD
pinned J. Cena with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:16:01.

Holy carp.  I've been out of the loop WAY too long.

:)

Orton's imprisonment was the kayfabe explanation of a suspension invoked upon him for being a jackass backstage. He also lost the WWC World Title, of course.
