Pre-Game Show Match
Petey Williams vs. "Prime Time" Elix Skipper
We kicked off the evening during the pre-game show with a match that would go a long way to shape the X division as Petey Williams took on the red hot Elix Skipper. Prime Time has declared his intentions to challenge Christopher Daniels or Kid Kash for the X Title, but he wouldn't have any grounds for negotiation if he didn't win here. Petey hasn't had his hand raised too often in recent weeks, but he does a great job of blocking that out when he wrestles, and he took it to Skipper. Skipper had the advantage early which built his confidence, but as he have learned to expect from him, he became too confident which led to him taking a large amount of offense. Skipper narrowly avoided the Canadian Destroyer by hooking the ropes with a free arm, causing Petey to hit hard. A power bomb soon followed, and Skipper used the middle rope for more leverage just to be sure.

Elix Skipper pinned Petey Williams after a power bomb in 0:10:17.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Happy Holidays to everyone from Global Championship Wrestling, and I can't think of a better gift for the fans that Best of the Best, the final pay-per-view of 2005! This was our first time in New Hampshire, at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester! In the main event, a match that could change the complexion of GCW as we know it as World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and North American champion Kurt Angle join forces to take on the World Tag Team champions, the World's Greatest Tag Team, with all three titles up for grabs! All four men have a lot to gain, but also have a lot to lose. If that wasn't enough, we will see the crowning of the Best of the Best as Rob Van Dam meets Lance Storm in one semi-final, and Monty Brown wrestles CM Punk in the other! The prize is huge as the winner gets one match of his choosing against any opponent with any stipulations at Beat Your Valentine in February, so a win here would be astronomical. Let's see how 2005 ends!

Match #1
Best of the Best - Semi-Finals
"The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam vs. Lance Storm
We got right into the tournament right away with Rob Van Dam taking on Lance Storm. RVD had to get through Bobby Lashley (by countout) and Chris Benoit to make it here, while Storm got past Kurt Angle and Rhyno to punch his ticket for the pay-per-view. Both of these men have returned from injuries this year, and both captured championship gold (RVD the World Tag Team Titles and Storm becoming a two-time North American champion). They had high expectations as they'd love to win this tournament and get any match that they want. Both men had different strategies in this one. Storm was obviously holding back somewhat, hoping to conserve his energy provided he got to the finals. RVD, however, thought that if he didn't go all out now, he might not get the chance to wrestle in the finals, so he went balls to the wall as he is normally does. Storm was quickly finding out that his strategy to save his strength may have been ill-advised as RVD's educated feet were taking him to school. Storm is more than willing to bend the rules though to keep himself in the match. It appeared as though Storm had taken too much punishment early on though as a huge back kick had Storm down and primed for the Five Star Frog Splash, but Storm wisely (if not immorally) pushed referee Nick Patrick into ropes, causing RVD to get crotched on the top. RVD fell back in the ring, but Storm was unable to capitalize right away as both got to their feet simultaneously. RVD took a wild swing, but Storm ducked and countered with a backslide. Storm put his feet on the ropes and stole his way a trip into the finals.

[Best of the Best - Semi-Finals]:
Lance Storm pinned Rob Van Dam after a backslide in 0:09:09.
Rating: ** 3/4

TOMMY DREAMER ANNOUNCES THERE WILL BE CHANGES IN 2006
Before we continued, GCW Commissioner Tommy Dreamer came out and thanked everyone in the arena and everyone at home for joining us for Best of the Best on pay-per-view. He said that although 2005 is almost in the books, things in GCW are only going to get better. He announced that there would be more shakeups forthcoming and that the addition of the X Title was only the tip of the iceberg. He once again thanked the fans and got the action going again by introducing Johnny Nitro and Melina.

MNM INTRODUCES A NEW MEMBER
Melina spoke on behalf of MNM before our next match. She said that many people thought that MNM was going to forfeit this match due to Joey Mercury's injury. Melina said that wouldn't be the case, because it's been hard enough for them to get their fair tag team title shot up to this point, and could only imagine what would happen if they forfeited this match. "We talked to our ever-wonderful commissioner Tommy Dreamer... hi Tommy! And Tommy said that if we found Johnny Nitro a new partner, we could wrestle this match against Booker T and Rey Mysterio Jr. as scheduled. We looked all over, and we found just the guy who fits the MNM way of thinking. Without further adieu... the newest member of MNM... SHANNON "ALL THAT AND" MOORE!" Shannon Moore is back in GCW! We haven't seen him in over a year, but he is back and he is with MNM.

Match #2
Booker T/Rey Mysterio Jr. (w/ Sharmell) vs. MNM (w/ Melina)
I'm not sure if Booker T and Rey Mysterio Jr. were expecting a handicap match or a forfeit, but truthfully, they seemed a little under prepared for this match, which is highly uncharacteristic of this experienced duo. The return of Shannon Moore came off as underwhelming at first, but as we saw Moore in the ring, it became apparent that he has went out of his way to improve his game over the course of the past year. This match came down to which team was working harder, and that was MNM. Nitro and Moore have something to prove - that they should get the title shot MNM deserves soon. Moore had something extra to prove as after he was fired last year, he felt that he deserved to be treated better. He made a big statement tonight when after Mysterio was held up by Melina when he was going for the West Coast Pop, Nitro nailed Mysterio and threw him back into the ring, where Moore hit a Northern Lights suplex. Booker tried to break it up, but he was too late as MNM picked up the win. MNM shows that despite the loss of Joey Mercury, they are still a major force in the tag team division.

MNM (Shannon Moore and Johnny Nitro) defeated Booker T and Rey Mysterio Jr. when S. Moore pinned Mysterio Jr. after a Northern Lights suplex in 0:09:25.
Rating: *** 1/2

Match #3
Best of the Best - Semi-Finals
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. CM Punk (w/ Daffney & Shaniqua)
Our second semi-final match was next as Monty Brown and CM Punk wrestled to see who would face Lance Storm in the finals later on in the night. The Alpha Male's path to this night went through Edge and Elix Skipper, while Punk had to get past Frankie Kazarian. Punk had a huge advantage as not only did he get a bye into this match thanks to a double countout from Abyss and Randy Orton, but he also walked out on partner Lance Storm last Monday and is very fresh for this match. These two have had all kinds of battles in the past, including the first and only fire table match in GCW history. This match would be a little tamer than some of their previous affairs. Brown came out of the blocks like gangbusters, tossing Punk around the ring like the proverbial rag doll. Punk never shows what kind of trouble he's in though as he remains pretty stoic throughout. He also is ever the opportunist, and he waited for Brown to become too aggressive and caused the Alpha Male to run shoulder first into the ring post. The former leader of the Prophecy worked over the Alpha Male's large left arm, trying to set it up for the Anaconda Vice, but Brown has such a wealth of power, that he got out of it the times Punk tried it. Brown got the momentum going again when Punk went for a Uranage, but the Alpha Male overpowered Punk and floored him with a lariat. Several more clotheslines followed before Brown called for the Pounce. He wouldn't get a chance to hit his devastating finishing move though as THE BASHAMS rushed into the ring to save their leader.

[Best of the Best - Semi-Finals]:
Monty Brown defeated CM Punk by disqualification in 0:06:13.
Rating: ** 1/4

Brown had no chance to fight back as Doug and Danny were all over him, topping off their assault with the Ball and Gag Bomb. Brown moves on by disqualification, but he's not going to be at full strength for the finals of the tournament against Lance Storm.

JBL TRIES TO CALM DOWN THE WORLD'S GREATEST TAG TEAM
We cut back to the private locker room of the Corporation where Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin are arguing. Apparently the two are fighting over which one will get to have the pinfall on Brock Lesnar to become the World Heavyweight champion. As the bickering reaches a fevered pitch, John Bradshaw Layfield quiets them down. "I could care less which one of you takes the fall. I just want the World Title or the North American Title in the Corporation, got it?" Haas and Benjamin looked at each other, a little untrusting, but agreed that they would work together to make sure that the Corporation walks home with more gold.

Match #4
"The Manbeast" Rhyno vs. Bobby Lashley
The World's Greatest Tag Team weren't the only members of the Corporation in action as Bobby Lashley, the enforcer, taking on another powerful individual, Rhyno. Lashley made his GCW debut a month ago at Glory when he was revealed as the mystery opponent for Rhyno, and he won the match handedly. Rhyno has had much more time to prepare, and although Lashley has been dominant, the Manbeast feels that he has opened up some chinks in the big man's armor. Lashley asserted himself early as he is one of the few people in wrestling that can actually overpower Rhyno. Rhyno learned from his mistakes from the last match and got far more offense this time around. Despite how much punishment he was dishing out, Lashley kept coming. Rhyno's only saving grace was going to be to hit the Gore, but his one opportunity that he got, Lashley floored him with a huge kick, which was followed by the Dominator and Lashley gets another victory.

Bobby Lashley pinned Rhyno with the Dominator in 0:10:18.
Rating: ** 1/2

Match #5
X Title Match
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (c) vs. Kid Kash (w/ Lance Hoyt)
Though Christopher Daniels was the defending champion in this match, due to his ongoing health woes, many people considered Kid Kash to be the favorite in this match. Kash, a former Cruiserweight champion, felt that being put in the ladder match to crown the first champion last month was unnecessary and he should have simply been given the title. Now that is a little ridiculous, but Kash did have a great opportunity to once again hold GCW gold. Kash didn't make any bones about what he was going to do in this match - distract the referee, let Lance Hoyt soften up Daniels on the floor, rinse, repeat. Daniels back took a good deal of punishment, mostly due to Hoyt running him into the post. It seemed a forgone conclusion that Kash was going to take the X Title, but the tide would soon turn. Kash threw the Fallen Angel to the floor as Hoyt once again stalked his prey. Daniels looked to be out on his feet. Hoyt charged at him, but Daniels was playing possum as he stepped to the side and caused Hoyt to eat the post. Daniels was back on the apron now as Kash ran at him, but Daniels caught him with a shoulder to the midsection. A springboard clothesline was next, followed by the Best Moonsault Ever for a nearfall. Hoyt made one last attempt to interfere, but Daniels ran Kash into him, knocking the big bodyguard down into the guardrail. Kash ate the Angel's Wing and the Fallen Angel keeps the X Title.

Christopher Daniels pinned Kid Kash with the Angel's Wings in 0:09:40.
Rating: *** 3/4
(Christopher Daniels retained the GCW X Title.)

THE BLUE WORLD ORDER CONTINUE TO MAKE ABSOLUTELY NO FRIENDS
The Blue World Order - Stevie Richards and The Blue Meanie - continued their tour of annoyance at Best of the Best while walking around the backstage area. Stevie yelled at plenty of stagehands, generally saying, "We're taking over!" and the Meanie looking high and low for anything even closely resembling food. Eventually they came across CHRIS BENOIT and FRANKIE KAZARIAN, who were talking about wrestling when Stevie interrupted them to be sure they knew that the bWo was taking over. Benoit and Kazarian shrugged them off, but Stevie was persistent in taunting the two, while The Blue Meanie spent his time going through Benoit's bag looking for something to eat. When the Crippler and the Future saw what was going on, their patience was pushed to the limit before they quickly disposed of them in quick and efficient fashion. Some guys just never learn.

Match #6
Ambulance Match
Abyss vs. Randy Orton
Randy Orton has been preaching for weeks his desire to take Abyss out and put him in the hospital. He nearly accomplished that goal this past Monday when Orton caused Abyss to be shot in the face with some fireworks from the opening pyro, but luckily for the Monster, his mask helped save him from more serious injury. Orton had the opportunity to get the job done as for the first time in GCW history, these two maniacs would wrestle in an Ambulance Match. The mission of this match was simple - beat your opponent to the point where you can shove him in the back of an ambulance where they will be taken to a local hospital. Orton showed he was ready for a fight as he came dressed in street clothes - a pair of jeans and some steel-toed boots looking to cause the maximum amount of damage possible. Abyss is always ready to fight, and it's not like he wears traditional wrestling attire anyway. It probably goes without saying, but this match was about as hardcore as they come. For the first few minutes, weapons were not even used. It was simply two guys who hate each other's guts wailing away at each other with such intensity behind every punch. Orton would be the first to break out a weapon when he hit Abyss with a hard chair shot to the face, one to the back, and another one he wrapped around his head. Orton thought this might be a chance to put Abyss in the ambulance, but the time it took him to get Abyss to the ambulance allowed the monster to recover and slam Orton hard into the ambulance.

This wouldn't be the only time that the ambulance would come into play as a weapon. After several more minutes of abuse for both men, they somehow found themselves on top of the ambulance. Orton gained the edge when he hit a low blow on Abyss, and then set him up for a piledriver. After two attempts that were blocked by Abyss, things went from bad to worse for Orton. Abyss countered with a backdrop and Orton's body went crashing through the windshield of the ambulance! Blood was trickling from Orton's back as he slowly rolled off the top of the ambulance, but he wasn't out of the clear yet as Abyss jumped off the hood with a huge flying elbowdrop onto Orton! Orton was in no way, shape, or form able to go on, but it was a matter now of Abyss putting him into the back of the ambulance. He got Orton in the ambulance, but before he could shut the door, BOBBY LASHLEY flattened him with a clothesline! The clothesline took Abyss off his feet and with ease, something we have not seen anyone do in GCW. If that wasn't enough of a power display, Lashley lifted Abyss onto his shoulder and drove him head first through the passenger side window, causing glass to rain down on Abyss. The Monster was utterly out of it as Lashley easily tossed him in the ambulance and slammed the door shut.

Ambulance Match:
Randy Orton defeated Abyss in 0:19:31.
Rating: ** 3/4

Lashley, a member of the Corporation, helped Orton win this match, but we as of yet don't know why. JBL is very calculating and wouldn't allow his muscle to go out there for no reason. He does have his past issues with Abyss, but those seem to be in the past. We hope to find out more on this tomorrow on Explosion.

Match #7
Best of the Best - Finals
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. Lance Storm
Finals time for Best of the Best, and the stakes were high as the winner of this would walk away with the ability to have any match they want at February's Beat Your Valentine pay-per-view. The finals pitted Monty Brown and Lance Storm against each other, but this is not the first time they have tangoed. The Alpha Male has had all kinds of problems with Storm and his partner-in-crime Edge in recent months. It was back in October that Brown's nearly one-year long reign as North American champion was ended by Storm thanks to some help from Edge. Commissioner Dreamer made sure that there wouldn't be a repeat performance of that by banning Edge and his brothel from the ringside area, so if Storm was going to beat Brown this time, it would be under his own merit.

Brown was not at his best due to the attack he suffered from the Bashams in the semi-final match against CM Punk earlier, but he did a good job of blocking out any pain he was feeling for this match. Storm however knew that the Alpha Male was still feeling these ill effects and went to work at bring Brown down to his size by working on the legs. Brown still had that intensity he is famous for, but he was definitely more sluggish than he generally is. Storm couldn't put him away though, and despite his attempts, he certainly couldn't get Brown to submit. Storm detoured from his game plan out of frustration and went for a springboard clothesline, but Brown countered with a makeshift Pounce (well, it was just a shoulderblock, but it was surely effective). Storm saw all his momentum slipping away as Brown followed up with a series of clotheslines and the Alpha Bomb, but Storm got his foot on the rope to spare him the match. Brown took the time to complain to the referee, and this momentarily lapse allowed Storm to hit a sunset flip and with his feet on the ropes for the second time tonight, Storm stole the victory and thus, the tournament.

[Best of the Best - Finals]:
Lance Storm pinned Monty Brown after a sunset flip in 0:12:10.
Rating: *** 3/4

Lance Storm had to sneak his way through this tournament, but in the end it worked out for him as he is the Best of the Best for 2006. Kudos to Monty Brown as well, but after the beatdown he suffered earlier, he simply couldn't recover. Storm has now earned the right to wrestle anyone in any kind of match he wants at Beat Your Valentine.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
All Titles Match
Brock Lesnar (World Heavyweight champion)/Kurt Angle (North American champion) vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team (World Tag Team champions)
In the short history of GCW, it is hard to find a single match that had more implications than our main event did here. Though both great competitors, at this stage in their careers, you wouldn't think that Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas individually would be in the position to become either the World or North American champions. But with the rules of this tag team match, the World's Greatest Tag Team had a great chance, and were perhaps the favorites to take one of the titles, despite the individual awesomeness of Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle. Lesnar and Angle looked good tagging against Anarchy last week, but they had some stumbles and perhaps didn't dominate the way many people expected. And when you're wrestling against the top tag team in the world, I don't care whoyou are - you need to be way on top of your game.

There's not a lot to say about this match other than it was other than it was a solid, hard-hitting match. All four competitors involved are so technically sound, which meant we saw a lot of great form and technique, as well as lots of hard suplexes. it was hard to decipher who would actually walk away with the win here and what title would change hands. Both teams wrestled a great match and after a long struggle, neither team had been able to pull away. However, the almost inevitible happened, and that was the greed of Haas and Benjamin kicked in. They probably could have won the match near the end, but they got into a dispute over who would take the pin on Kurt Angle to become the North American champion. That bickering led to them foolishly allowing Angle to get the tag when they said they wanted the World Heavyweight Title anyway, and that meant Brock Lesnar got into the match. Huge mistake. Lesnar came in and completely cleaned house. Clothesline after clothesline, suplex after suplex. JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD of course made an appearance to stop this from all slipping away, but Angle met him in the aisle with a double leg takedown and a series of punches. Angle jumped back in the ring and hit Benjamin with an Angle Slam while Lesnar hit the F-5 on Haas and with a pin, we had brand new World Tag Team champions!

Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle defeated The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) when Lesnar pinned C. Haas with the F-5 in 0:20:39.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Brock Lesnar retained the GCW World Heavyweight Title.)
(Kurt Angle retained the GCW North American Title.)
(Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle won the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle are the most dominant duo in wrestling holding not only the World Heavyweight and North American Titles respectively, but now the World Tag Team Titles as well. Our PPV broadcast came to a close with the Corporation cursing at Lesnar and Angle in the ring, who were holding all of their titles high. Thank you for joining us everybody!
kurropt_antagonistPosted on 09/15/06 at 02:38:33

I was honestly expecting to see either Haas or Benjamin walk away as the World Champ.  That certainly would have shaken things up for the new year.  Shows what I know.  :P
meetzorakPosted on 09/15/06 at 21:47:02

I was expecting Williams to walk out with a win, even though i see where you are going with Skipper.

I was kinda hoping for RVD to get his BIG push tonight But im glad if it couldn't be him it was Storm

You know how i feel about Lashley.  >:(

Im really not into the tag divsion right now and Brock and Angle being champions dont help.

I can taste the Lesnar heel turn in up and coming weeks.
lazy_duckPosted on 09/16/06 at 08:10:34

I will agree with the others I was hoping to see Benjamin or Hass walk away with a title, but can't go worng with Lesnar and angle holding all the cards, I can also see a Lesnar turn in the future or Angle tired of being the "other guy" to much of a good thing can be bad and all that gold on two bodies could end partnerships quickly. Good card.
rey619Posted on 09/16/06 at 12:18:47

I really don't see Angle turning heel again so shortly after turning face. Lesnar turning heel though.. that's a much more appealing prospect.
