LLX Noche Lucha De Sábado
Date: January 8, 2005
Location: Arena Coliseo Monterrey

Interview:
Antonio Pena, the owner of the AAA promotion in Mexico, opens the show by explaining to the fans that the promotion has changed its name to Lucha Libre X, or LLX for short. The reason for this is two fold: Pena never liked the original AAA name for the promotion and secondly and most importantly, he wants to expand the audience of lucha libre to eventually begin touring all of North America at some point. The vision Antonio Pena has for LLX is that it will include various styles of wrestling and include not just the greatest luchadors, but some of the world's greatest professional wrestlers from other countries, particuarly the United States. In order to progress to his goals, it will mean varying the rules of lucha libre that the fans are used to. Pena continues by taking a cheap shot at his competition, CMLL, by saying that they refuse to change with the times and bore the audiences. Whereas here in the LLX promotion, he will strive to stay ahead of the curve and give the fans a product they will always be excited about watching on television and at the arenas.

Antonio Pena moves on to explaining that in AAA, the championships weren't the focus of the luchadors in the past as much as wrestling for pride, respect, and dignity in hair versus hair or masks versus masks matches. While those will still be a tradition of lucha libre that is continued in LLX, championships should be what the luchadors strive to win and defend. The LLX will have four championships: World Title, North American Title, World Tag Team Titles, and the World Trios Titles. Tonight, LLX will start to determine its first World Champion in what he believes is a unique way. There will be a series of trios matches, and it will be under Relevos Incredibles rules where the teams will be comprised of technicos and rudos. The winners of these teams will advance to next week's battle royal where the only way to elimiate another luchador is through pinfall or submission.

Two-out-of-three-Falls Match With Captain's Rules:
Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Psicosis and Rocky Marvin beat La Parkita, Octagoncito and Mascarita Sagrada 2000 2 falls to 1:
x Octagoncito beat Rocky Marvin via the Springboard Tornillo in
          0:05:56
x Mini Abismo beat Parkita via the German Suplex in 0:11:06
Rating: ***

Obviously, this Trios matches is not included in the tournament to determine LLX's first World Champion. It was a match to get the crowd excited and ready for tonight's matches by showcasing the amazing abilities that the LLX minis have. While Antonio Pena described that some traditions from AAA and lucha libre in general might not always stay the same, this match was fought under Captain Rules. The technicos were able to get an early advantage in this match when Octagoncito pinned Rocky Marvin with a Springboard Tornillo. However, Mini Abismo Negro was able to get the victory for his rudo team when he pinned the captain of the technico team, La Parkita with a German Suplex. With these kind of matches, if either team captain can pin the other team captain, it ends the match in a victory for that captain's team.

[LLX World Title Battle Royal Qualifying Match]:
Electro Shock, Charly Manson and El Intocable defeated Angel Mortal, Histeria and Gran Apache when C. Manson pinned A. Mortal after a powerslam in 0:26:38.
Rating: ***

While Electro Shock is a technico and Charly Manson is a rudo, they are brothers so in a way this was not a fair match for the random team of Angel Mortal, Histeria, and Gran Apache. That's not to say that Mortal, Histeria, and Apache had no chance to win this match, it's just that their opponents were able to get along better than they could. Charly Manson gets the pinfall for his team after hitting a powerslam on Angel Mortal while using the ropes for leverage.

[LLX World Title Battle Royal Qualifying Match]:
Octagon, Chessman and Shocker defeated Los Diabolicos (Marabunta and Mr. Condor) and Chiva Rayada I when Octagon made Condor submit to the La Escalera in 0:12:10.
Rating: *** 1/4

Like the last match, Octagon, Chessman, and Shocker faced a disadvantage against their opponents in that Marabunta and Mr. Condor team regularly in trios matches along with Angel Mortal as Los Diabolicos. However, the dream team of Octagon, Chessman, and Shocker worked well together in order to achieve a common goal of advancing to next week's battle royal. Octagon made Mr. Condor submit to La Escalera to get the victory for his team.

Interview:
Another new feature of the former AAA and now LLX is that there is a female interviewer. LLX has hired Nahima Choura, a television personality who is definitely pleasant on the eyes but also has experience in asking celebrities questions. Her first interview is with none other than Cibernetico. He's more interested in flirting with Nahima than conducting a serious interview. So instead, she tells Cibernetico that she knows exactly who he will be teaming with tonight. Cibernetico is obviously interested and wants to know. Nahima opens the envelope she is holding and looks at the piece of paper that contains the names of Cibernetico's teammates. She looks surprised at what she reads and Cibernetico, getting frustrated by the wait, demands to know who he is teaming with. Nahima tells him that his first partner is El Zorro. Cibernetico sighs and rolls his eyes at that, but says that El Zorro, while not being his favorite person, will make for the kind of partner that will advance him to next week's World Title Battle Royal. Now, he wants to know his second partner in the match. Nahima says that it is her first day in LLX, she doesn't want to make the top star angry. Cibernetico informs her that the longer she makes him wait, the angrier he gets. Nahima pauses and blurts out: "It's La Parka!" She doesn't wait to see Cibernetico's reaction as she runs away. Cibernetico pauses to think about it and then immediately begins to go into a rage and throw anything he can find around backstage. Keep in mind it was La Parka that won Cibernetico's mask.

[LLX World Title Battle Royal Qualifying Match]:
Vampiro, Abismo Negro and Zumbido defeated Dark Ozz, El Oriental and Mascara Sagrada when A. Negro defeated Sagrada by disqualification in 0:04:49.
Rating: * 1/2

This match featured an uncharacteristic action from Mascara Sagrada. He had just hit a Frankensteiner on Abismo Negro and went for the pin. Copetes Salazar made a slow pinfall count and instead of a pinfall, Mascara Sagrada could only get a two count. This infuriated Mascara Sagrada to the point that he grabbed Copetes Salazar and threw him over the top rope. When Salazar got back into the ring he immediately disqualified Mascara Sagrada's team. Mascara Sagrada's frustration allows Vampiro, Abismo Negro, and Zumbido to advance to next week's battle royal.

[LLX World Title Battle Royal Qualifying Match]:
Cibernetico, La Parka and El Zorro defeated Dark Cuervo, Alan Stone and Chiva Rayada II when Parka pinned Chiva II with the Frankensteiner in 0:11:42.
Rating: ** 3/4

After the announcement earlier from Nahima, the fans were very excited to see how Cibernetico would manage to team with La Parka. Considering the kind of competitor Cibernetico is, he had no choice but to make the team be effective. At various points in the match, it was obvious that La Parka was getting on Cibernetico's nerves, but he could do nothing about it because if he weakened La Parka to the point he lost, it would mean Cibernetico loses too. Considering Cibernetico is a very selfish, arrogant individual, he realized that. Cibernetico's team was able to get along enough to get the victory after La Parka pinned Chiva Rayada II with the Frankensteiner. That's a rather ironic ending to this match considering the issues between Cibernetico and La Parka. It was La Parka who helps Cibernetico advance to next week's battle royal, where La Parka will also be a participant in.

After the match, La Parka starts dancing as usual. Cibernetico looks disgusted and goes to leave when La Parka stops him and asks him to put their issues behind them for one night and give the fans what they want and that's for the both of them to dance around the ring. The fans cheer in agreement and Cibernetico thinks about it and after a few moments, nods his head and smiles. As it looks like Cibernetico is going to start dancing, La Parka starts doing his dance, but Cibernetico dances behind him to set him up for a kick to the groin from behind! This stuns La Parka, and when he turns around, he is met with a lariat from Cibernetico. El Zorro runs back down to the ring, but Cibernetico leaves the ring before Zorro can get to him. As the show comes to a close, Cibernetico laughs on the outside of the ring and makes a motion around his waist that the LLX World Title is going to be his while El Zorro tends to La Parka in the ring.

Card rating: ** 1/2

Match observations:

The premiere edition of LLX Saturday Night Wrestling (Noche Lucha De Sabado) featured many interesting combos of trios that normally would not ever team with each other had it not been for the LLX World Title being involved. The winners of each six man tag team match would qualify for next week's battle royal to determine LLX's first World Champion.

Here are the 12 luchadors that have qualified for the battle royal, where only pinfalls and submissions count:
Electro Shock
Charly Manson
El Intocable
Octagon
Chessman
Shocker
Vampiro
Abismo Negro
Zumbido
Cibernetico
La Parka
El Zorro

Hmmm... 4 titles seems like a steep order to take care of starting out.  I mean, I know lucha has several weight classes and belts for all of them, but looking at it from the "appealing to north america" stand point if you're starting off with all new titles I'd say tag and trios both together may see a bit odd to the american audience starting out.  I'm still with you though, don't worry :)

While I agree with having a mini match on your opening card, I'm not sure I would've led with it seeing as how the American audience views midget wrestling as nothing more than a novelty, no matter how talented the workers are.  If you're market is still just mexico at the moment then obviously disregard both comments.  I just don't know how far into America you are trying to reach (if at all) with your first show.

I hope to see the dynamic between Manson and Electro Shock played up in LLX.  Glad to see them win and avoid Gran Apache's SLAP OF CERTAIN DOOM!~

Ummm... little confused here as Chiva Rayada I is Gran Apache and he just wrestled.  Is he working as both in LLX?  Or was it just an inconvinient oversight?  Glad to see Shocker, Octogon and Chessman go through tough.  I heart Shocker.

YES!  LA PARKA! (Too bad it's AAA's not-as-good-as-the-original La Parka and not L.A. Park, but still)

Hurray for Abismo Negro going through.  Which Mascara Sagrada are you using?  I assume it's AAA's knock off.  Glad to see he's back to Mascara Sagrada and not Tiple A, Supper AAA, or Televisa Deportes as they all seemed weird (even for lucha gimmicks) to me.  Too bad he can't use it on real AAA television anymore.

Of course Cibernetico, Parka and Zorro go over.  They just had to.  Too awesome not to.  Nice way to end the show.  Cibernetico is going to be a force in LLX I can already tell.  Poor La Parka.

I'm going to pick Cibernetico to win the battle royal.  He'll either screw La Parka or El Zorro (or both) in the end to win the title, but I think he'll be the one to take it home.

Not bad for an opening card where it's always hard to get the ball rolling.  Can't wait to see more.

I'm trying, more or less, to just start off in 2005 with most of AAA's roster and just renaming it Lucha Libre X (LLX). While the goal is to eventually promote shows in the United States regularly (particularly places like the Southwest obviously), it will take awhile before it happens. I know AAA has run shows in the USA before and is even going to start running some shows later this year, but it was never for too long. Antonio Pena strikes me to be just like Vince McMahon in not being worried to buck tradition and do what is best for his vision of lucha libre. So that is what I am trying to do with LLX. It also allows me to just say "Blame Pena" if I mess up with the various lucha libre rules. I can just say Pena thinks its too old fashioned.

You're right about the titles though. Again, though, Antonio Pena usually says a lot of things and most of them aren't true, so maybe there won't be that many titles. There are too many titles in Mexico. You have to remember though, the promotion is still in Mexico regularly. So including a trios title I think is probably more important than including a tag team title. I didn't really want to include a tag team title because I don't see the point in it, even if there are some tag team matches, but those are mostly between single stars teaming up.

I realize that about Chiva Rayada I being Gran Apache, but you know, that never stops Antonio Pena from putting someone else under the Chiva masks since he owns the gimmick. So for the sake of this circuit, let's just say Gran Apache gets a break and lets some other luchador use that gimmick. Besides, I've seen some Chiva matches and I don't know how Gran Apache could fit in those outfits without looking, well, fat.

Shocker is rudo through and through and 1000% guapo, according to Shocker. I wonder if Shocker will show up for any of the shows I have him booked for?

The version of Mascara Sagrada I am using is the one on the main TNM export page. So I'm not sure who the export is modeled after. If it's the one who is using those other gimmicks, great. That means I can clone this export and get a few more jobbers, I mean luchadors out of it. I was reading that Mascara Sagrada is Mexico's version of Doink the Clown. I prefer Mascarita Sagrada.

I'm a Cibernetico mark for some reason. I guess being that I've mostly watched the American style of wrestling (sports entertainment), Cibernetico seems to be the closest thing to that (Triple H). This past show he was great...Actually, the entire ending segment was probably the best segment of wrestling television I've seen this year besides the Cena/HHH WrestleMania match and the crowd dynamics for it.

Now, if only Galavision would get english announcers, I could understand the announcers. Although, it would probably take away from hearing the rudo color commentator singing Alan Stone's theme music.

And thanks for the comments. Being a lucha fan is thankless most times as only a certain amount of people either like it or even have a clue what you're referring to. I figured I'd at least write one card and say "Look, I wrote a lucha TNM card." I don't think I will get into puro unless there is some Directv station that has NJPW, and NOAH.
