ROYAL RUMBLE QUALIFIER: Scott Putski vs Paul Roma

With two more slots left open for the Royal Rumble, the last confirmed match
took place between Scott Putski and Paul Roma. Defeat wouldn't necessarily
spell the end as it was announced all those who lost a qualifying match would
be put into a draw and a fatal fourway would take place later tonight between
four individuals picked at random with the winner being the last man to confirm
his place in the draw. However that's not quite how it would be when this one
was over. Roma came out and, as always, demanded respect from whomever he was
in there with - in this case his arch nemesis Scott Putski. Threatening to burn
his face with an as yet unlit candelabra, Putski went on the attack and was
certainly ahead on points when Brad Armstrong sprinted to the ring and took
Roma out with a Rock Bottom. Putski looked surprised to see 'The Rock', but
Brad didn't hold back on him either, hitting a Rock Bottom on Putski as well.

[Royal Rumble Qualifier]:
Scott Putski and Paul Roma battled to a no contest in 0:03:58.

"The Rock" Brad Armstrong speaks his mind

Armstrong grabbed a mic and ordered both pieces of "trailer park trash" out of
"The Rocks ring". Armstrong was now in command and had a forum to vent his
thoughts. Armstrong had two things he needed to say. First and foremost, he
declared that The Rock can guaren-damn-tee that he will be laying the smackdown
on 29 jabronis in the Royal Rumble and walking on to Wrestlefest to prove once
and for all that The Rock is the peoples champion. He also laid warning for two
men - he made it clear that top of his list is Rockabilly whom he owes a defeat
to and if that "roody poo candy ass" should be unlucky enough to be in the
ring at the same time as him this Sunday, The Rock will "layeth the smackdown
on his candy ass". The second man was the man who was responsible for what can
essentially be described as a mugging on Armstrong three weeks ago, Alex Wright,
in an effort to keep some of the Rumbles competition at bay, and Brad noted that
he hasn't forgotten how Wright took the Intercontinental title away from "the
most electrifying man in sports entertainment today" and promised to Peoples
Elbow him all the way back to Germany "if you smell what The Rock is cooking".
Guess that makes that clear then, but no doubt Brad Armstrong is now considered
one of the big favourites to win the Royal Rumble.

Don Muraco goes to see the commissioner

Don Muraco is certainly looking over his shoulder right now both at who could
be winning the Rumble and challenging for the world title at Wrestlefest and
also Jerry Lynns title shot at Last Man Standing. Once again, it was up to him
and his manager Jeff Hardy to try and butter up our beloved commissioner Matt
Hardy. Approaching him in his office and with a total lack of subtlety, they
suggested that Jerry Lynn be "taken care of" along with one man they consider
a very big threat in the Royal Rumble match, Raven. They'd get their wish as
Matt suggested a little "warmup match" tonight against a team that has defeated
the pairing of Lynn and Raven before, that being Billy Kidman and Steve Corino.

Christian vs "The Loose Cannon" Brian Pillman

Brian Pillman was in action today, once again ensuring Sean O'Haire would be
kept away from the building. Once again, O'Haire was watching from not too far
away at a hotel a few miles down the road, where an official was keeping watch
on him, warning him we didn't want a repeat of what happened last week when
Pillman set fire to O'Haires car. The official, Earl Hebner if you're
interested, also noted the DWF were holding themselves fully responsible and
had compensated him in full. O'Haire didn't care, he was barely listening, his
eyes simply locked onto the screen he was watching as Brian Pillman entered.
With nothing else to say, Hebner informed him he would be going back to his
part time job before declaring to everyone in earshot they could "get your
t-shirts right here".

Back in the arena, Pillman was wielding a crowbar before his match against
Christian who of course scored a controversial win recently over Kurt Angle.
Pillman wasn't in the mood for anything of the sort tonight, leaping right on
Christian as the bell sounded and much as he has recently, unleashing a violent
flurry of punches of Christian head. Christian remained pretty much defenceless
for the majority of the contest as Pillman continued to pound viciously into
Christian. Christian did finally make a brief comeback as the match wore on and
clotheslined Pillman down into the corner. Pillman reached out of the ring and
grabbed the crowbar he'd brought with him, before jamming it into Christians
ribs. Drawing an obvious DQ, Pillman wasn't about to stop there, stomping away
at Christian before sitting on his back and choking him out with the crowbar.
It took a good dozen officials to pry him off of Christian and get that weapon
out of harms way, but no doubt Pillman has once again made an impact.

Meanwhile, when we went back to see footage of the hotel, O'Haire had left
the room, leaving us all in doubt as to what he's thinking going into Last Man
Standing when they may well find themselves in the same ring.

Christian defeated Brian Pillman by disqualification in 0:09:27.

Kings Court: Royal Rumble special

The Kings Court tonight featured a few of the entrants in the Royal Rumble
looking to make their case as to why they would be victorious. Pretty Perfect
dominated proceedings as they noted they were the only... PERFECT entrants
in this match without ever noting which one of them would take the duke. The
Syndicate were a little less convinced with this and after noting that nobody
was perfect, promised to make an impact. La Resistance were up next and drew
boos before they'd even started. They said the Royal Rumble was ironic as the
term 'royal' implied a monarchy which gave them the advantage coming from a
former monarchist nation whilst all the American athletes wouldn't know what
living in a country with that sort of history and tradition is like, before
insisting to the American audience this was a GOOD thing. Finally Low Ki and
Kid Kash admitted they might have to go at it being that it's every man for
himself but they too would make an impact while they were there, starting with
the two men in the ring who considered themselves perfect. A big argument
ensued and inevitably things broke down and a massive brawl ensued. With Kanyon
unable to take control, Chris Jericho took the chance to run down to the ring
and smash up whatever parts of the Kings Court set he could get close to. If
this whole segment is anything to go by going into Last Man Standing, we may be
in for a doozy of a Rumble.

Masato Tanaka vs Larry Zbyszko

Larry Zbyszko, along with Coach in his corner, took on Masato Tanaka. The match
was delayed though as just before the bell was due to ring, out wandered
Juventud Guerrera to badmouth "Spastic Tanaka" and criticised him for costing
them BOTH a match in the Rumble. Guerrera continued by saying the year of Juvi
would start by making a mockery of Masato at Last Man Standing because "you
absolutely suck you spaz". Zbyszko was getting a bit impatient and told the two
"ladies" to quit whining because they wouldn't have won the Rumble anyway as
long as he was entering because he'd been practising all month flicking 29
elastic bands over the top rope and was now ready to do the same for real.

Juventud was escorted from proceedings and the match was underway. Larry has
been in the DWF a little over a year and beaten several top names and the first
few minutes he was looking good but Tanaka came back strong and unleashed some
stiff chops that left Larrys chest bright red. All was going well until he
went for a springboard move off the second rope, Larry caught him and
manouvered him into position for the Shoulderbreaker, planting Tanaka with it
and getting the pin. With that, Zbyszko may be another one of the major dark
horses for this years Rumble and with the list of guys he's beaten, regardless
of how controversial some of them were, there's a good chance he'll be there or
there abouts.

Larry Zbyszko pinned Masato Tanaka with the Shoulderbreaker in 0:07:47.

"Haiku Reading" Jeff Hardy (c) vs Chavo Guerrero Jr. (cruiserweight title)

Jeff Hardy had himself a title defense today against Chavo Guerrero Jr. and
with Muraco not at ringside, hopes were high of a title switch. Unsurprisingly
Chavo started off the hottest but Jeffs cheap tactics soon turned things
around to his favour. All was looking good until he missed the Haiku Bomb and
Chavo fought back and had Jeff reeling. A rake to the eyes brought things back
in Jeffs favour and he knocked down Chavo to set up another Haiku Bomb attempt.
Chavo was up quickly this time and picked Jeff off the ropes and looked for a
powerbomb. Jeff struck Chavo a couple of times before countering with a
huracanrana, and Jeff would then slump into the ropes to aid his pin and get
the duke, a little fortuitously.

Jeffs night was far from over however. As he was exiting the ring, he was
confronted by Devon Storm who clearly motioned towards Jeffs cruiserweight
title. A little taken aback by the intensity in Devons expression, Jeff backed
up and let Devon follow him around the ring before making a clean break to
the back. Just when Jeff thought he'd gotten through one title defense, it
seems there are more guys waiting around the block to take a shot at him.

Jeff Hardy pinned Chavo Guerrero Jr. after a Huracanrana in 0:08:17.

Matt Hardy makes the 'last chance qualifier' draw

Matt Hardy was having a hard time keeping order in preperation for the draw to
find out which four men would be selected at random to participate in the
Last Chance Qualifier. A whole horde of wrestlers were gathered round the
tombola to find out who would be drawn. First off though, he had a decision to
make - who would advance between Paul Roma and Scott Putski. Roma begged for a
rematch, but Hardy rightly noted nobody particularly wants to see Roma in
action a second time in less than a week. Roma then reminded him they were
"Team Matt" buddies back in the day, to which Putski correctly identified that
everyone in Team Matt hated Roma and the only reason they kept him around was
to carry their bags and get coffees. Infuriated, Roma pounced on Putski and the
two brawled away with Matt shouting after them that he'd let them know before
the Royal Rumble match which one of the two he'll select to enter this
prestigious event.

So to the draw itself and there was a lot of unease amongst those present, in
all around twenty men waiting to see if they had one last shot at entering.
First out of the tombola was former television champion Terry Gordy who
celebrated that one with much gusto, while partner Steve Williams wished him
luck. Next up was Joey Matthews who was also wished luck by his partner,
Christian York, before declaring to Matt there was a mystery to solve - how
come him and Jeff look nothing like each other? Even Jeff Hardy questioned this
but Matt told Matthews to get lost and skipped past that. The third individual
to be entered was Bobby Eaton and this one gained several murmurs of approval,
being that Eaton is a highly respected wrestler.

It was the last name that really drew controversy. Hardy pulled a random name
out of the tombola, opened it up and read the slip of paper. Matt declared
that it was Rock'n'Roll Express member... and he never got to finish the
sentence as Robert Gibson ran over and snatched the paper away and celebrated.
Ricky Morton came over and asked to see the paper, which Gibson himself hadn't
even looked at, in case it was his name. Gibson argued that it was Morton who
always got the credit, Morton argued that it was Gibson who always got the pin,
then Gibson argued that he'd gotten there first. Matt Hardy tried to interrupt
several times but couldn't get a word in. Gibson said that by rights it was
his turn for a shot at the big one, to which Morton suggested that it was no
wonder Roberts mother was deaf if he always went on like this. Things suddenly
turned heated and the two began shoving each other. Matt tried to break it up
whilst all the other wrestlers just sort of stood and watched. Finally a
furious Gibson pulled the slip of paper out, having still not read it, found a
lighter and burnt it, before asking Matt Hardy to PROVE whose name had been on
that piece of paper before storming off. An equally furious Ricky Morton then
kicked the tombola over, breaking it and spilling all the balls everywhere,
to a big "AWWWWWW" from all of the wrestlers, as he too stormed off. Matt told
everyone to go back to their locker rooms and he would sort this out and inform
a new lucky fourth man who was going to enter this match.

"Unnecessarily Evil" John Cena & Jody Fleisch vs Gene Snitsky & Heidenreich

After the beating he took last week, Matt Hardy was banking on Jody Fleisch
being injured and done for, and booked a tag match with Fleisch up against
bodyguards Snitsky and Heidenreich but after several officials AND wrestlers
protested, Hardy was forced to allow Fleisch to have a teammate of his choosing
and after his run in with Hardy a few weeks back, John Cena joined Fleisch.
Before the match, Matt Hardy made a public address that as the leader of the
DWF, the Royal Rumble was the first step to his crowning glory of Wrestlefest
where his reputation would be forever cemented as the greatest name in DWF
history for putting on such a great show.

Cena and Fleisch entered next and Fleisch had a mic in hand, stating that
Hardy and his goons may have bruised him (and there were several noticable
bruises) but he would never die and would keep coming at Matt Hardy until he
stepped down from his farcical reign as DWF commissioner. John Cena also noted
that he wasn't so concerned about Hardys position but had slashed his tyres
for the hell of it. Even Snitsky had something to say, questioning how Fleisch
could possibly be back from the dead after he burned him with his fire breath
just last week.

Frustrating as that little segment might have been for Hardy, he soon found
himself appeased when Heidenreich and Snitsky isolated the wounded Fleisch in
their corner and used their power moves to tender him up further but stopped
to use their "special powers" on his crawling, dying body. Hardys pleas to
finish him off weren't heard and Fleisch made the tag. Cena was looking hot
and took it to both of Hardys bodyguards. They managed to outnumber him in due
course and Snitsky headed to the outside for something off the top. Before he
could go all the way, Fleisch was back and sprang over the ropes and DDTed
Snitsky all the way to the floor in one flowing move. In the ring, Heidenreich
had been holding Cena in place but Cena elbowed his way out and scopped him up
for the Eighth Deadly Sin to register the victory. And also apparent is that
Snitsky is now pretty banged up after that DDT - he'll still be at the Rumble
for sure but it appears Fleisch may have gone some way to have evened the odds.

John Cena and Jody Fleisch defeated
Gene Snitsky & Heidenreich (Gene Snitsky and Heidenreich) when J. Cena pinned
Heidenreich with the Eighth Deadly Sin in 0:05:59.

Rhyno vs Eddie Guerrero

Kurt Angle has been seething over the events that have transpired with Rhyno,
not least losing a place in the Royal Rumble as punishment. It was Rhyno in
action today against one of the dark horses for the Royal Rumble match at Last
Man Standing, Eddie Guerrero. Eddie knew he couldn't match strength and when
Rhyno seemed to adapt well with Eddie trying to use his quickness, Guerrero
then went to what he knows best - outright cheating, nailing Rhyno with some
sort of foreign object he'd snuck into his tights.

Eddie had control of things without being able to throw the much larger Rhyno
around. Rhyno looked to make his way into things several times but as sneaky
as he is, Eddie kept using whatever weapon he had to full effect. Finally
Rhyno was able to slam him hard with a spinebuster. Quickly locating Eddies
weapon in his tights, he threw it to the crowd and was finally looking set.
Eddie threw an errant clothesline but only succeeded in hitting the ref. Rhyno
hit a clothesline of his own, triggering Angle to run out and try and pull
something. Charging in, Rhyno saw him coming and ducked down and Angle almost
hit Eddie. Stopping just in time, Angle turned around into a Gore and with
Eddie standing right behind Angle, he took some of the move too. Rhyno threw
Angle out with the ref coming round and hit a second Gore on Eddie to get the
victory.

Rhyno pinned Eddie Guerrero with the Gore in 0:09:11.

Dynamite Kid vs Rockabilly

Rockabilly is sadly amongst the entrants in the Royal Rumble and one shudders
at the thought that HE could win it and be in the main event at Wrestlefest but
he has the same chance as everyone else. Still, cockiness will cost you. Having
made his way out along with Helmsley, Rockabilly not only guarenteed victory,
but challenged anyone else in the Rumble to prove their worth again him EXCEPT
Brad Armstrong whom he had alternate plans for. Nobody answered at first, so
Rockabilly said he would entertain the fans in the meantime with THE most
electrifying move in sports entertainment today - SHUFFLEBILLY! That instantly
brought about a challenge in former world champion Dynamite Kid.

Dynamite was in no mood for messing around and right away almost knocked
Rockabillys jaw off. Helmsley jumped onto the apron and got sent right off.
Dynamite delivered a couple of snap suplexes that had him laid out, then set
him up for a superplex that he wasn't getting up for. Helmsley tried one more
jump onto the apron with the same results and Dynamite finished with the
Swandive Headbutt. So Rockabilly loses for the first time in the DWF and with a
performance that devastating, Dynamite will surely be the pick of a lot of
people going into this Sunday.

Dynamite Kid pinned Rockabilly with the Swandive Headbutt in 0:02:58.

ROYAL RUMBLE LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER: Terry Gordy vs "Inspector" Joey Matthews vs Bobby Eaton vs ???

To the Last Chance Qualifier. Gordy, Eaton and Matthews all entered as we
awaited word on who would be the fourth man in the match. The music hit and
surprisingly, making his second appearance of the night, it was JEFF HARDY!
Instantly grumblings of a fix were the feature of the day for the announce team,
particularly later on when it transpired nobody other than Snitsky and
Heidenreich had even seen Matt Hardy conduct the draw. Still, Jeff was in and
looking to make it two-for-two for the evening.

With everyone taking turns to pair off with everyone else, it quickly became a
tornado rules match, regardless of whether that had been the intention or not.
It boiled down to Gordy against Matthews and Eaton against Hardy. Matthews
looked like he might be about to pinch it when he executed a moonsault on
Gordy who had taken an elbow to the back of the head from Eaton. Jeff Hardy
quickly broke it up knowing it was one fall to a finish. Not able to get away
from Eaton, Hardy went back to fighting the man from Alabama whilst Matthews
continued to press his advantage against the fallen Gordy. Missing a splash,
Matthews was prone and Gordy picked him up and locked in the Asiatic Spike.
It looked good for Terry, but thinking fast, an exhausted Matthews kicked Gordy
downstairs then hit a high cross body that knocked both men from the ring.

In the corner meanwhile, the two men left in the ring were Bobby Eaton and Jeff
Hardy. Eaton had had the advantage but Jeff raked the eyes and hit a bulldog
that looked to have the match won. Jeff elected to go up and hit a Haiku Bomb
to finish but Eaton managed to drag himself out of the way. Eaton himself now
went up and seeing Gordy and Matthews clamber to their feet on the outside,
he dived on top of them to well and truly wipe them out this time. Eaton was
up quickly and made his way back to the top rope for the Alabama Jam but the
delay had given Jeff time to recuperate and Eaton too missed his finisher. It
was looking close but Hardy had control as he picked Eaton up and pushed him
into the corner where he could stomp away. He then set Eaton up on top for a
superplex but Eaton blocked the move and shoved Jeff to the canvas, and this
time there was no missing the Alabama Jam, and finally Bobby Eaton had pulled
off the victory.

Eaton celebrated the win with much gusto, almost like he'd won the Royal Rumble
itself, but certainly there isn't a more deserving man in the whole DWF to have
won this match, such is Eatons awesome wrestling skills. So having wrapped up
the Royal Rumble qualifiers for the third man spectacular at Last Man Standing,
we now have a pretty good idea of what to expect. In the match are some HEAVY
favourites and men that Don Muraco or Jerry Lynn would hope to avoid. Most
notable however would be the likes of last years winner Billy Kidman, former
champions Raven and Dynamite Kid, Intercontinental champion Alex Wright, TV
champion Steve Corino, Rob Van Dam IF he is passed (and again, no word on his
condition), Brad Armstrong, and would anyone care to bet against last years
Royal Rumble ironman, Sean O'Haire or his former partner, the nutjob himself
Brian Pillman.

[Royal Rumble Last Chance Qualifier]: Four Corners Match:
Bobby Eaton defeated Terry Gordy, Joey Matthews and Jeff Hardy when Eaton
pinned J. Hardy with the Alabama Jam in 0:13:32.
Rating: **** 1/4

Jerry Lynn & Raven vs Billy Kidman & Steve Corino

Lynn and Raven looked ready as they prepared backstage. Their longtime alliance
was rekindled after Lynns long absence - the last time they teamed up was a
whole eight months ago when they ironically defeated Don Muraco and Jeff Hardy.
Kidman and Corino meanwhile are trying to keep it together - Kidman is a
nervous wreck who is suffering from a lack of confidence whilst Corino is
wrapped up in being the longest reigning TV champion in history. Backstage,
Corino insisted that he was OK about what happened last week but next time,
Kidman needs to not interfere like THAT (refering to Kidman trying to stop
Corino making a pin last week).

The match went ahead and these two teams know each other well having traded the
Intercontinental tag team titles a couple of times last year. Despite this being
their first match as a team in such a long time, it was Lynn and Raven who
started off strongest, whipping Kidman and Corino into one another before
throwing them from the ring. Time to regroup.

A cheapshot on Raven from the apron by Corino allowed Kidman to get the jump
on Raven and gain control and they expertly cut the ring in half, with Corino
praising every move Kidman did, almost to the point of patronising. Of course
it didn't last as Raven came back, hitting a double arm DDT on Kidman, then
backdropping the charging Corino right onto his partner. Raven was looking
strong and wisely made the tag to the fresh Lynn who was a house on fire. With
all four men in, control of the match was gone. Raven clotheslined Corino over
the top while Lynn hit a beautiful float over DDT onto Kidman that had him
seeing stars. The Cradle Piledriver followed and Lynn and Raven were victorious.

Muraco no doubt will be frustrated at the result as Jerry Lynn continues to
build momentum going into Last Man Standing, and Raven is one of the hot
favourites to take the Royal Rumble match itself this Sunday. Maybe yet there's
hope for the DWF that Muraco can be beaten for the world heavyweight title.

Jerry Lynn & Raven (Jerry Lynn and Raven) defeated
Billy Kidman & Steve Corino (Billy Kidman and Steve Corino) when Lynn pinned
Kidman after a Northern Lights suplex in 0:12:30.

But Putski vs. Roma is a mat classic!  How DARE the Rock interrupt such an epic struggle?

Brad Armstrong rules.  He's the best imitator of all time.

Muraco and Jeff Hardy are the masters of subtlety.  Raven/Lynn vs. Corino/Kidman would have been a great match before, but with Kidman's current confidence issues, I'm not so sure.

I like how the crowbar was removed from harm's way.  I'm sure you meant it was moved away so it couldn't do any harm, but your wording made me think the crowbar was in some sort of physical danger. :)  But Pillman continues his insanity.  Poor Christian's ribs.

I love how Jericho's MO is not to hurt Kanyon at this point but rather to destroy his set.

I don't even think Juvi knows what the hell he's talking about.  No surprises that Larry Z won, though Tanaka is somebody I wish you pushed more.

Jeff Hardy gets a clean win, and by clean win, I mean at least one Don Muraco didn't help with.  Good to see Devon Storm's carved up face get involved.

Putski and Roma having a jobber fight is one of the better things in life.  Not the Rock'n'Roll Express too!  Nobody can get along, though the Morton/Gibson bit was highly entertaining.  so we have Gordy, Joey Matthews, Bobby Eaton, and somebody.  I like your Eaton so I'm rooting for him.

A fun little tag match.  I wonder how Matt Hardy feels about officials and wrestlers uprising a little bit and forcing him to give Fleisch a tag partner.  Though Fleish is hurt, he at least wounded Snitskrieg a bit which will help him not die at the Rumble.

Rhyno's interference last week worked on Angle, but angle's interference backfired.  That's gotta have him seething.  I think Angle will win, but this should be a good one.

Every time I see "SHUFFLEBILLY," I can't help but chuckle.  It's so ridiculous.  No doubt Dynamite Kid was going to kill him.

Liked the angle with Jeff getting to be in the qualifier, but glad he didn't win.  You're right... no one deserves it more than Eaton.  I expect him to have a good showing.

NOOOOOOOO!  Poor Kidman.  Now he's never going to get his confidence back. :(

Well, it was Pillman wielding it.

I wasn't even aware that Scott Putski was in the DWF. But the Rock's on a mission I suppose, though it's hard to take someone whose main focus is Rockabilly seriously.

I like Muraco's lack of subtlety. It's refreshing to have a complely blunt World champion instead of schemes. ...well, there can still be schemes, but they're out in the open. It does show that Hardy's not watching his own show anymore though. Kidman's not beating anybody.

Earl Hebner's a triple threat: referee, messenger and merchandise salesman. Good match to get over Pillman's insanity. Poor Christian though.

Massive tag team rumble! Too bad none of them have a chance at winning the Rumble. Along with Jericho and Kanyon, this was a quality segment.

No surprises Larry won, but I'd still like to see him caught in a fire.

Hardy gets the win with a relative wrestling move! Surprisingly, Muraco didn't help out at all.

Quality segment with the last chance draw. Between Roma and Putski, the RnR stuff and York's completely valid question, this had me rolling.

The right team absolutely won here. Since they beat mythological warlords like Heidenreich and Snitsky, Cena and Fleisch have to look better.

No real problems for Rhyno with Eddie and Angle's plans backfire this week. I have a feeling it'll be different at Last Man Standing though.

No way at all Rockabilly is going to be able to pull this out. You just do not do the Shufflebilly in front of the Dynamite Kid.

Good match in the four corners match, though Hardy was tired from his narrow win over Chavo. Surprised Eaton went over, but it's not like he's going to win the Rumble anyway.

Like I said, Kidman's not winning again. At least until Corino becomes a face. I'm looking forward to Muraco v. Lynn though.
