NAWA WrestleClash III 8/29/04

MattHarmsPosted on 08/12/06 at 22:40:30

It's finished. It took long enough but I think it deserved the length as it is the biggest NAWA event in the two and a half year run. The link is below.

Happy reading everyone.

three words that best represent a really old school TV angle... "ether soaked rag".  :)  That was so Texas of the Dingo Warrior.

Congrats on three successful seasons of the NAWA.

WARNING. DEFINATE WRESTLECLASH III SPOILERS. DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE PAY PER VIEW:

Wrestling Excellence Newsletter NAWA notes for 8/30/04

The New Age Wrestling Alliance was said to be extremely pleased with WrestleClash III last night. From top to bottom, it was a card to remember. Many within NAWA management agree that it was a good way to close out Season Three of the New Age Wrestling Alliance.

The Hart Foundation, the Next Generation may be splitting up, with one or several members being released from the company. The rumor backstage is that Teddy Hart's Cruiserweight Title reign might cause the group to crumble from the inside.

The NAWA will not have any House Shows between now and Unholy Alliances but the main event for the post Unholy Alliances run of house shows has been pencilled in to be: Harry Harris and Raven vs Miles Stylish and Jerry Lynn.

Other Post Unholy Alliances House Show Programs Are:
Tony Mamaluke vs Teddy Hart(Rumored to be a series of Ladder Matches)
Ron Waterman vs Christopher Daniels
CM Punk vs Rapmaster Killings
Lenny and Juvi vs Matt Bentley and Chris Sabin
AJ Styles vs Agony
Spanky vs Richard Ramos Ricardo
Alex Shelley vs Petey Williams
Jack Evans and Johnny Devine vs Johnny Excalibur and Hi Tech
Simon Diamond vs Scott Hall
Sedrick Skyhawk vs the Gambler

Again these plans are just tentative at this point and could change.

The Chosen One will be largely a manager for the Archangels of Anarchy as his in ring days in the NAWA are pretty much over.

On the Injury Front: Harry Harris is only a few weeks away from stepping back into the ring from his knee injury. Twizted Youth will be out for the rest of the year after he blew out his knee on a leapfrog.

An NAWA Glory Xtra Special has been announced for October 31st.

The French Revolution were released quietly a few weeks ago without any fanfare.

This Week's Glory(9/2/04) has the following confirmed:
Alex Shelley vs Tony Mamaluke(Cruiserweight Title)
Armageddon/Destruction vs Lenny and Juvi(Tag Team Titles)
Unholy Alliances Tournament Draw For the First Match
Teddy Hart vs Elix Skipper
The Dark Warrior talks about his NAWA World Title victory at WrestleClash III

That's all for this week, see you at ringside.

BUGGER! That was long. I had to set a fair bit of time aside to get through that. Still, that's never a bad thing, so...

BUGGER! New tag champs. Frankly, I wasn't expecting that. There goes anyone seeing them as a comedy team.

BUGGER! OK, I'll stop saying that now, but I love the Gambler, he's something of a cult hero. Personally I'd prefer 'Viva Las Vegas' as a theme but a win's a win.

F.R.E.D. TURNS! I don't think the deep complexities of this storyline could get any better. Wordsworth eat your knob off.

Two wins for the Archangels. I'll be frank, I DID call that. But Stasiak lost, so that's never a bad thing.

Alex Shelley seems to be somewhat of a TNM favourite right now with everyone which I have nothing against. This one was nicely written actually.

Clean win for Jerry Lynn which I am ALWAYS for. Right guy went over here and Lynn seems to be in a nice little niche here as TV champ.

What the hell is a Pele kick, by the way? That aside, Styles/Punk had all the potential to be an epic and you delivered. Awesome stuff - I was hoping for Punk to win (no reason) and to be fair, you couldn't really have Styles giving it up here by himself so that was probably the best way to do it, but kudos for a great match.

WHAT AN IDIOT! Seriously once Teddy began toying with him, you know he was losing it. Serves him right, even if Mammy took an absolute pounding there.

Diamond and Swinger win the perfectly acceptable filler. I've nothing to add.

Stylish wins, right guy went over again. Nice little bit of psychology at the end where Stylish is making the same mistakes as Teddy Hart is but is smart enough not to over-do it.

I think Rick put it best there. I haven't seen Ether do a man in that bad since Wrestlemania IX.

An attempted moonsault onto a guy on a bed of nails? Dumbest move ever, what did Daniels expect? That was pretty sick stuff though.

BUGGER! That was long. I had to set a fair bit of time aside to get through that. Still, that's never a bad thing, so...
Well to be fair it is the biggest event of the year for the NAWA, so it would be the one with the most writing. But yeah, it is long and I'm never writing anything that long again...

Until next year's WrestleClash that is.

BUGGER! New tag champs. Frankly, I wasn't expecting that. There goes anyone seeing them as a comedy team.
I put the belts on Juvi and Lenny because, they deserve them for being in the NAWA for so long. And Juvi will be going to the WWE shortly as part of the Mexicools, so I wanted to finish off his NAWA run with a bang after never giving him much despite that bastardized five minute run as NAWA Television Champion when Rapmaster Killings was injured and I needed to switch the belt to Ron Waterman.

BUGGER! OK, I'll stop saying that now, but I love the Gambler, he's something of a cult hero. Personally I'd prefer 'Viva Las Vegas' as a theme but a win's a win.
Actually Viva Las Vegas was his theme when he was in the jobber division(but let's speak no more about that part of the NAWA) in 2002/2003 but for some reason that I can't remember I changed it before WrestleClash II.

F.R.E.D. TURNS! I don't think the deep complexities of this storyline could get any better. Wordsworth eat your knob off.
Yes, but Twizted Youth will be out for the rest of the year thus causing this storyline to get the axe. Ricardo will be moved into a different feud and well...more will be revealed not on the next Glory, but the one after that.

Two wins for the Archangels. I'll be frank, I DID call that. But Stasiak lost, so that's never a bad thing.
After the results in the main event and the #1 Contenders match, the Archangels had to win those matches. Bentley and Sabin will have their day eventually but as for Shawn Stasiak well...it couldn't get any worse then the time he jobbed to the Backyard Dudes on like three straight Pay Per Views with Mike Sanders back in 2003.

Alex Shelley seems to be somewhat of a TNM favourite right now with everyone which I have nothing against. This one was nicely written actually.
This match was one of those things that I didn't expect to be good but was actually my fourth favorite match on the card(behind Styles/Punk, Mamaluke/Hart, and Walk Through Hell). Shelley rocks and he is definately the top non Teddy Hart heel in the Cruiserweight division at this moment in time.

Clean win for Jerry Lynn which I am ALWAYS for. Right guy went over here and Lynn seems to be in a nice little niche here as TV champ.
Lynn's been in that niche for quite some time, either Television or International Champion. As much as I want to give him a sustained push into World Title level, it isn't going to happen unless about five or six main eventers drop dead or injured or quit at the same time (althrough knowing my luck, I really shouldn't say things like that). Still Lynn will do some interesting stuff in the coming months, and at least one Pay Per View main event will be in the works before the end of 2004.

To answer your question, a pele kick is a leaping kick to the back of the head.

As for the match, I was really pleased with how this match turned out. I think I might be able to squeeze another pay per view match between these two out(due to Styles passing out) but it won't be for a few months down the line.

WHAT AN IDIOT! Seriously once Teddy began toying with him, you know he was losing it. Serves him right, even if Mammy took an absolute pounding there.
Teddy Hart's a little bit too cocky for his own good. He's defended the title successfully week in and week out for thirteen months. In his mind, he thought he had the match in the bag as Mamaluke was absolutely thrashed after that Super Reverse Frankensteiner/Hart Attack combination move. He should have went for the cover straight away but he didn't and as a result Mamaluke managed to gather enough strength for the surprise cradle and the title.

Stylish wins, right guy went over again. Nice little bit of psychology at the end where Stylish is making the same mistakes as Teddy Hart is but is smart enough not to over-do it.
There lies the differences between Hart and Stylish. Both are cocky but Stylish knows to quit while he is ahead. If he would have toyed around with Killings as much as Hart did with Mamaluke, we would have been looking at a new NAWA World Champion.

I think Rick put it best there. I haven't seen Ether do a man in that bad since Wrestlemania IX.
Waterman's streak is over thanks to ether. It was either that or he gets counted out due to fighting the Triumvirate on the ramp(as titles in the NAWA can change hands on countout or disqualification). The title HAD to go off of Waterman, as after Warrior, I had nowhere else to go other than a Harry Harris/Ron Waterman match and Waterman would have to turn heel for that to work(as Harry Harris obviously can't due to coming back off of an eight month knee injury).

Warrior's not really giving me all that much in marquee, classic title matches, as he isn't exactly Frank Gotch but hindsight being 20/20, I should have had Daniels beat Waterman for the belt at Night of the Rogues and had Raven win the belt from Daniels tonight and go from there, but it's too late for that now.  Still, Warrior/Gambler is the next NAWA World Title feud, so we'll see how that pans out.

An attempted moonsault onto a guy on a bed of nails? Dumbest move ever, what did Daniels expect? That was pretty sick stuff though.
I love this match but I don't think I could top it in the gore department, so this will be the last Walk Through Hell Match match for a while. Daniels was trying to finish Raven off for good with that kamikaze like move onto the nails but it didn't turn out too well for the Fallen Angel in the end. I knew exactly how this match was going to end(Evenflow on the barbed wire chair) all the back at WrestleClash II.
