Pre-Game Show Match
"The Teen Phenom" Ken Doane/"The Alabama Slamma" Hardcore Holly vs. Anarchy
Our pre-game show match was tag team action with two struggling teams looking to pick up a big win to move themselves up the tag team ladder. Doane and Holly have been learning to team ever since Tommy Dreamer threw them together, and though they have improved, they have yet to go to the winner's circle. Anarchy has had a little bit more success, but not much since Lance Storm told them he no longer needed their services. Despite wrestling a great tag match this past Wednesday in a losing effort to the Bashams, Doug Williams and Paul Burchill couldn't seem to get along in this match. They're starting to blame each other for their difficulties as a team, and that resulted in Williams being the recipient of a spinebuster/Flying Legdrop combo.

Ken Doane and Hardcore Holly defeated Anarchy (Doug Williams and Paul Burchill) when K. Doane pinned D. Williams after the Flying Legdrop in 0:10:15.
Rating: ***

Doane and Holly finally get into the winner's column and they actually seemed to be happy about it, even engaging in a handshake. This could be the first of many wins for this team. Meanwhile, Anarchy's woes continue.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada couldn't have been happier on this night, because they were the host to Glory! We had four big title matches, including one to crown the first ever X champion as CM Punk, Shark Boy, Kid Kash, and Christopher Daniels meet in a ladder match, so we're guaranteed at least one new champion here tonight! Also, Lance Storm defends the North American Title against Frankie "The Future" Kazarian, Booker T and Rey Mysterio Jr. try to take the World Tag Team Titles from the World's Greatest Tag Team, and in our main event, Brock Lesnar puts the World Heavyweight Title on the line against John Bradshaw Layfield!

Match #1
World Tag Team Title Match
The World's Greatest Tag Team (c) vs. Booker T/Rey Mysterio Jr. (w/ Sharmell)
Our show kicked off with a bang as the World Tag Team Titles were up for grabs right out of the gate. Some people have expressed their surprise over Booker T and Rey Mysterio Jr. catapulting up the tag team division as quickly as they have, but these two are a couple of the greatest wrestlers of the last decade and they have meshed so well. The World's Greatest Tag Team are the four time champions, but they had to be a little worried with what they had to contend with here, especially since MNM had been barred from the building. Booker and Mysterio took full advantage of their opportunity and didn't disappoint the fans in Edmonton. The only thing that kept Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin in this match is that there is no team in the world better at tandem offense than they. When Booker and Mysterio had the advantage, the WGTT couldn't seem to keep up, despite their high level of athleticism. They had to rely on the mat game and tag team fundamentals, which they used to cut off the ring and isolate Booker T. Mysterio tried to get into the ring to help his partner many times after Benjamin or Haas would taunt him, but every time Mysterio got in the ring, he left Booker wide open to a double team from the champs. Booker found his opening though when he caught Benjamin with the Book End. Both men made the hot tag, but Mysterio was fresher and faster and he used it to get the champs on the ropes. Booker came in to make it a two-on-two as referee Petey Pluck began to lose control of the match. He finally got Benjamin and Booker out of the ring. Mysterio was still in control as he whipped Haas into the ropes and hit a drop toehold onto the middle rope. Mysterio hit the 6-1-9, but one thing he didn't know was that when he whipped Haas into the ropes, Benjamin made the blind tag and was the legal man. Mysterio hit the Drop of the Dime on Haas, but was shocked when Pluck wasn't making the count. Mysterio protested, but that momentary lapse resulted in him eating the T-Bone and being pinned in the middle of the ring.

The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) defeated Booker T and Rey Mysterio Jr. when S. Benjamin pinned Mysterio Jr. with the T-Bone in 0:18:58.
Rating: *** 3/4
(The World's Greatest Tag Team retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

The World's Greatest Tag Team were out-wrestled for most of this match, but they showed their craftiness to walk out of Glory as the tag team champions.

JBL IS UP TO SOMETHING
After his fellow Corporation members were successful in their World Tag Team Title defense, John Bradshaw Layfield was all smiles as he was seen talking to head referee Jimmy Appleseed, who will be the referee for the World Heavyweight Title in the main event. We couldn't hear what they were talking about, but when JBL caught eye of the camera man, he didn't take too kindly of it as he threatened the camera man's life and chased after him. What was JBL doing talking to Jimmy Appleseed?

Match #2
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. "Primetime" Elix Skipper
Since running Low-Ki out of GCW, his former partner Elix Skipper has been on quite a roll. Skipper feels as though Low-Ki was holding him back and now he can truly shine and breakout as THE superstar of 2006. AJ Styles had something to say about that though as these two continued their great feud with another great wrestling match. Bryan Danielson, Styles' partner, was not in the arena, so this was going to be one-on-one. These two should prove to be major players in the new X division, and this match was a perfect example of why. Though Skipper has been prone to taking the low road more often than not, tonight he didn't go that route. Skipper truly believes he is the top athlete in Global Championship Wrestling and he was going to show it with his skills tonight. The match became a game of "Top this!" as Styles and Skipper took risk after risk after risk. Some paid off, some didn't. Styles finally got the momentum back on his side after absorbing a good deal of offense from Primetime when he hit the Pele Kick out of nowhere, following by an Asai moonsault into an inverted DDT. The Phenomenal One called for the end when he went to the top, but he didn't connect when he went for the spiral tap. Skipper quickly hit the Overdrive which was enough for the win.

Elix Skipper pinned AJ Styles after the Overdrive in 0:07:19.
Rating: ****

It wasn't as easy as Skipper expected (though he was the only man on the planet who thought he was going to walk through this match), but it was hard not to be impressed with Primetime tonight. He might finally be backing up all the big talk he's been spewing for weeks.

Match #3
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. "The Rated R Superstar" Edge (w/ Lita & Mickie James)
Going into this match, most people felt that Edge didn't have a snowball's chance in hell at beating Monty Brown, especially with how pissed off the Alpha Male was at the Rated R Superstar. Edge showed a lot of guts though as he came into this match to fight, and what resulted was a great brawl. When it comes to intensity, few can compete with Monty Brown. But if Brown has a weakness, it's that he lets his emotions get the better of him and he gets himself into a lot of precarious positions, which is why Edge did so well against him. Edge showed a fighting spirit that he hadn't shown yet since coming to GCW, more than holding his own in this fight with Brown. Edge overexerted himself though as he was wrestling a lot of this match under desperation, and what resulted was a wore out Rated R Superstar, which led to him eating the Pounce and sucking down on the bitter taste of defeat.

Monty Brown pinned Edge with the Pounce in 0:07:46.
Rating: **** 1/4

Though he didn't win, a surprisingly good showing by Edge against Monty Brown. Now that Brown has gotten even with the Rated R Superstar, his sights are set on getting back his North American Title.

JBL INTRODUCES HIS HAND-PICKED OPPONENT FOR RHYNO
We saw JBL for the second time this evening as he was out to introduce the opponent he picked out for Rhyno. The Manbeast was already in the ring, and it looked as if it was taking everything in his power not to run up the aisle and rip JBL's head off. He managed to keep his composure though because he knew if he couldn't beat up JBL, he at least had the chance to beat up an associate of JBL's. "Your opponent tonight, Rhyno. From Colorado Springs, Colorado... weighing in at 280 pounds... the new "muscle" if you will of the Corporation... BOBBY LASHLEY!" The fans were confused at first as they had never heard of Lashley, but they were impressed when Lashley made his way out from the back, because quite frankly, he is a mountain of a man.

Match #4
"The Manbeast" Rhyno vs. Bobby Lashley (DEBUT!!!)
Nobody was sure what to make of Bobby Lashley, but Rhyno didn't care as he was looking for a fight regardless of who his opponent was. I don't think he could have possibly expected this though. To put it simply, Lashley is a house. Rhyno came at him full boar with fists a-flying, but Lashley shook them off before leveling the Manbeast with a clothesline that turned him inside out. Lashley then systematically assaulted Rhyno hitting an arm trap suplex, a huge powerslam, and a delayed vertical suplex before finishing the Manbeast off with the Dominator.

Bobby Lashley pinned Rhyno with the Dominator in 0:03:56.
Rating: * 3/4

No one expected JBL to have brought in someone who could dominate Rhyno like Bobby Lashley did. JBL has certainly found a winner in Lashley. Still, knowing Rhyno, a setback like this is only going to motivate him further.

Before our next match, there was a commotion in the back. A camera was dispatched to the back to find out what it was.

ABYSS HAS BEEN ATTACKED
When the camera finally got to the location of the scuffle, we saw RANDY ORTON brandishing a steel chair and slamming it repeatedly onto he back of Abyss. The GCW Official Brigade tried to break it up, but when Orton threatened to turn his aggression toward the officials, they backed away, allowing Orton to get a few more shots in. Abyss was left in bad shape and his status was questionable going into their match later.

Match #5
Ladder Match for the vacant X Title
CM Punk (Television champion) vs. Shark Boy (Cruiserweight champion) vs. Kid Kash vs. "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels
We were guaranteed to see a brand new champion as our next match was the ladder match for the brand new X Title. The Television and Cruiserweight championships were being unified to form this new championship, and I can't think of any better way to crown a champ than with a ladder match. All four wrestlers were in the ring at the same time, and to make certain that there would be no shenanigans in this match, all managers and bodyguards were banned from ringside. As you would expect, the beginning of the match featured the two smaller feuds, Punk vs. Daniels and Kash vs. Shark Boy, igniting once again. Neither Punk nor Daniels have had the time off necessary to heal their bodies after the brutal Dog Collar Match last month, but you try telling these two they shouldn't rip each other limb from limb. Kash has been completely unbearable (even more so than normal) since he was upset for the Cruiserweight Title by Shark Boy (not to mention the shrimp). Sharkie continued to have fun at Kash's expense to start this match, staying a step ahead of Kash and biting his ass on more than one occasion.

For the opening few minutes, no attempts were made to get to the ladder as the four men were all content to beat the crap out of each other in and around the ring. Kash made the first attempt to get the ladder after hitting a Hotshot on the guardrail on Shark Boy, but when he got to the ring apron, Shark Boy dropkicked him from behind, causing him to nail his face on the ladder as it hit the ropes. Shark Boy quickly slid the ladder in the ring and set it up, but he was pulled off the ladder rather quickly by CM Punk. Daniels jumped Punk from behind and slammed his face into the ladder before climbing himself, but Kash was back in and knocked the ladder over with a dropkick.

The match would continue on in that fashion for awhile after that. It was difficult for any man to knock out his opponents long enough to get up the ladder and retrieve the belt, so this became just as much about strategy as it did wrestling. Kash had a plan in place. After Punk and Daniels had taken a fall to the floor, Kash hit the Dead Level on Shark Boy and appeared to have a clear trip up the ladder. He was tired though and moving slow, which is when LANCE HOYT ran in and start climbing underneath him, getting him up the ladder sooner. However, D-RAY 3000 was hot on the trail of Hoyt, and he had a fish with him! D-Ray jumped in the ring and smacked Hoyt in the back with the fish. Now obviously this did no damage, but one thing it did do was infuriate Hoyt to the point that he jumped off the ladder to chase after D-Ray, dumping Kash hard to the mat in the process. D-Ray ran for his life with Hoyt in hot pursuit as they disappeared to the back.

Meanwhile CM Punk had set up a table on the outside and slammed Daniels onto it. Punk climbed back in the ring and onto the top turnbuckle, looking to drive the Fallen Angel through the table. Before he got to make his leap though, Shark Boy punched him in the stomach and brought him back into the ring with a superplex. Daniels had been spared by an assist from Shark Boy, who was now making his way up the ladder. Daniels showed that no good deed goes unpunished though as he got back in the ring with a chair and smashed Shark Boy in the back with it before bringing him down off the ladder with a Russian legsweep. Kash was up and he had the chair, taking a wild swing at Daniels. But the Fallen Angel ducked, and then dropkicked the chair back into Kash's face.

Daniels had all the momentum in the world until Punk nailed him with a low blow and hit the Pepsi Plunge. Shark Boy got back up, but he was dumped to the outside by Punk. Punk climbed up the ladder, but he was worse for wear so it wasn't swift. This gave Kash time to climb up the other side. The two punched away at each other, both almost taking a spill from the top of the ladder but managing to keep their balance. We didn't know where this one was going to end up until Shark Boy was back in the ring and he had a hold of the ladder. Punk and Kash begged him not to do it, but at the urging of the crowd, Sharkie pushed the ladder over. The flight was certainly the best part of the trip for Punk and Kash as they flew to the outside of the ring, both crashing through the table Punk had set up earlier! The fans were all on their feet chanting, "HOLY SHIT!" as Punk and Kash lay motionless in the shattered ruins of what was a table. Shark Boy set the ladder back up, but had his face rammed into it by Daniels, who then hit the Angel's Wings. With Punk and Kash not moving on the floor, Daniels was able to overcome his injuries, climb up the ladder, and become the first X champion!

Four Corners Ladder Match for the vacant GCW X Title:
Christopher Daniels defeated CM Punk, Kid Kash and Shark Boy in 0:24:29.
Rating: ****
(Christopher Daniels won the GCW X Title.)

Christopher Daniels collapsed to the mat, grasping the X Title. This match was everything we could have imagined and then some, and everyone should be proud of what they accomplished. It'll be interesting to see how long Daniels can hold onto this championship as the brutality of this one couldn't have done much for his health.

Match #6
North American Title Match
Lance Storm (c) vs. Frankie "The Future" Kazarian
Before the match, Frankie Kazarian said that this match was the biggest match of his career as he had an opportunity to win the North American Title, the second most prestigious title in the business. Kazarian was riding a huge wave of confidence too as he has pinned Lance Storm not once, but twice within the last month. That and the fact that he had everything to gain and nothing to lose put the champ in a precarious position. Early on, Storm completely controlled the match, using Kazarian's youthful excitement against him. Storm may not be flashy or bubbling over with personality, but he can wrestle, and he does not mess around in the ring. Kazarian was realizing that he was going to have to settle down if he was going to win this match. The Future did settle down, and at many junctures in this match, was surprising everyone with the fact that he was making Storm look foolish on the mat, which is nothing to scoff at. Storm proved that in an equally fought match, however, experience will almost always beat youth. Kazarian had Storm up on the top turnbuckle and was going for a belly-to-belly superplex, but the North American champ turned in mid-air and landed on Kazarian, showing great wherewithal and getting the win.

Lance Storm pinned Frankie Kazarian after a cross-body block in 0:08:55.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Lance Storm retained the GCW North American Title.)

The third time was a charm for Lance Storm, as he finally defeated Frankie Kazarian, this time when it mattered the most. Kazarian looked good in defeat - he just couldn't put it all together. I'm sure that Kazarian will be here once again in the future.

CHRIS BENOIT AND CHAVO GUERRERO JR. THANK THE FANS
Before our next match, we had a special interview in the ring with Chris Benoit and former GCW superstar Chavo Guerrero Jr. Benoit and Chavo both thanked all of the fans for their support during this difficult time. Chavo spoke with a lot of emotion when he said, "Eddie lived for three things - God, his family, and wrestling, and I think he is happy knowing he died doing what he loved. It's hard to come out here and talk about this. It hasn't sank in yet that he's really gone. But like I said, Eddie loved wrestling. This is what he'd want. Everyone coming out here and doing what they love. All of you fans coming out here and supporting wrestling. Thank you all so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and from the bottom of the Guerrero family's heart." Chavo and Benoit received a great round of applause as the fans chanted Eddie's name before they left.

Match #7
Abyss vs. Randy Orton
This match was not going to be pretty as Abyss and Randy Orton locked up one more time. Orton has taken on a hard more intense persona in recent months, not spending all of his time sitting back and posturing. He does a good deal of that still, but he's also taking it upon himself to be a fighter. It's a good thing he did, or else Abyss would have absolutely killed him in this one. That's not to say that Abyss didn't kick the crap out of Orton, which he most certainly did, but Abyss took a far greater amount of abuse than most people thought he would. With how much these two don't get along, referee JD Sanders allowed a lot of leeway and let these two tear into each other, and the fans loved it because they got to see a great brawl. A chair made its way into the proceedings when Orton brought it in, but Abyss caught him with a boot to the stomach before he could use it. Abyss grabbed the chair and had bad intentions, but Orton shocked everyone by hitting the R.K.O. out of nowhere on Abyss! The problem for Orton was that when he hit it, the chair came down and hit him on the back of the head, which dazed him. When he finally made the cover, Abyss was able to narrowly get his shoulder up. Orton was extremely livid and got in Sanders' face, which allowed Abyss to club him from behind and power bomb him on the chair, earning him the duke.

Abyss pinned Randy Orton after a power bomb on a chair in 0:11:39.
Rating: *** 1/2

This was a war of attrition that could have went either way. Had Orton not had the misfortune of that chair catching him in the skull, he just may have won this match. But as it stands, Abyss picks up a hard fought win.

DREAMER BARS THE CORPORATION FROM RINGSIDE
John Bradshaw Layfield was out in the ring after Lamont drove the limo out, and JBL wasn't alone as he had the World Tag Team champions with him as well. We expected Brock Lesnar to be introduced, but instead out came Commissioner Tommy Dreamer. Dreamer told JBL that we were going to have a clean main event here, and therefore, Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, and eve poor little Lamont were BARRED from ringside. JBL threw an absolute fit in the ring, but Dreamer said his decision was final and ushered the other members of the Corporation to the back.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
World Heavyweight Title Match
Brock Lesnar (c) vs. John Bradshaw Layfield
Main event time, and boy was the crowd hot for this! John Bradshaw Layfield had to wrestle this match without the safety net of the Corporation at ringside, which no doubt threw a monkey wrench into his plans. Despite the underhanded and often cowardly tactics JBL uses, you can't underestimate him in the ring. He's a tough guy, he's a hard hitter, and Brock Lesnar knew that. This wasn't your most technical of World Title matches (Flair/Steamboat this was not). This was nothing more than a good old-fashioned fight, and both Lesnar and JBL love this style. Much like our last match, referee Jimmy Appleseed allowed a liberal bending of the rules, because nobody wants to see a World Heavyweight Title match end on a cheap disqualification. Lesnar and JBL brawled all over the ringside area. Lesnar seemed to be having his way with JBL and on to a successful title defense as he slammed JBL onto the steps, and tossed him over the announce table. JBL was scurrying to get away and as Lesnar stalked in, he didn't notice that JBL had grabbed a chair. JBL took a big swing and caught Lesnar flush in the skull, opening up a huge gusher.

It didn't take long before Lesnar's face was the crimson mask, and Lesnar's dominance was getting away from him in a hurry. Had he not been busted open, he probably would have had an easy ride to a title defense, but he was losing a lot of blood and his wrestling was adversely affected because of it. JBL became like a shark when he saw the blood, and went to work at opening up that cut more and more. Lesnar was in bad shape as the ring started to be stained red. Lesnar is a gamer though and he somehow kept mustering up comebacks, but each time JBL would cut him off. Finally Lesnar would maintain the advantage when he ducked the Stock Market Crash and nailed JBL with a clothesline of his own. Lesnar continued to pick up the pace and seemed to have a successful title defense when he hit the F-5. Appleseed made the count - one... two... thr... what? Appleseed stopped counting! Lesnar looked at Appleseed bewilderly, who then had the audacity to flip the champion off! Jimmy Appleseed has taken a payoff from JBL! A good idea in theory, that is until Brock Lesnar has you by the shirt and is threatening your life. Appleseed was thankfully (for his sake anyway) spared by JBL, who hit Lesnar from behind with a steel chair, followed by the Stock Market Crash! JBL yelled for Appleseed to make the count, but before he could get to three, someone pulled him out! It was TOMMY DREAMER! The Commissioner wasn't going to stand for this as he chastised Appleseed. Appleseed inexplicitly took a swing at Dreamer, which is a mistake. Dreamer might be just the Commissioner now, but he is still the Innovator of Violence and he showed it by knocking Appleseed out with a hard right hand.

Meanwhile in the ring, JBL had the chair again and was about to nail Lesnar with it, but here was RHYNO! Rhyno ran to the ring and was looking to Gore JBL, but JBL saw him and waffled him in the face with the chair! The Manbeast was out cold, and it looked like the next chair shot was for the World champion, when someone jumped out of the crowd... it was KURT ANGLE! Kurt Angle is back! German suplex on JBL! Angle had the chair... hard chair shot to JBL! Lesnar was back up and he nailed the F-5 on JBL! Dreamer made the count and Lesnar is still the World Heavyweight champion.

Brock Lesnar pinned John Bradshaw Layfield with the F-5 in 0:20:31.
Rating: *** 3/4
(Brock Lesnar retained the GCW World Heavyweight Title.)

Lesnar didn't get much time to celebrate as BOBBY LASHLEY, CHARLIE HAAS and SHELTON BENJAMIN were running to the ring, but Lesnar kept them at bay with the chair as Angle was putting the Ankle Lock on JBL! Angle had the hold on tight and he had no intentions of letting go. Dreamer tried to get him to release it, but Angle was in a zone and didn't hear. Finally after several minutes, officials were able to pry Angle off of JBL, but the damage had definitely been done. We don't have a report on JBL's condition as of press time, but he was taken to a hospital and the injury appears to be serious. We hope to have an update for you tomorrow on Explosion. Thanks for joining us everybody!

I hate The Worlds Greatest Tag Team, but im supposed to so that was a great match.

I dont care for the AJ/ Elix fued i know its not gonna last long its just for Elix to get a push towards to the X-belt but still meh.

Edge is still the man.

God you're so good at theis what would posess you to hire Lashley ewww man just ewww. Then you have the balls to put him over Ryhno in under 5 minutes COME ON DUDE CHILL!

I knew Christopher Daniels was winning that match but i was rooting for Shark Boy to be double champ nonetheless i personally think you're gonna phase a title out soon.

I dont care about anything Storm does anymore. he's just not an interesting person. I cant wait till Jerrico comes back to reclaim his title. *crosses fingers*

HAZAA ABYSS!!!

I think Brock is gonna be the longest reigning champ in GCW history.

All in all keep up the great work.

I happen to like Lashley.  He's got a great look, in-ring charisma, and honestly, I need more hosses.

The TV and Cruiserweight Titles are gone.  They were unified to form the X Title.

Thanks for the comments.
