DWF 11/02/08 - six months in the making

Well it has been a while. After a six month burn-out period, let's kick off where I left off. Before we start, here's a reminder of what happened a while back.

The Syndicate vs Hector & Mando Guerrero

The Syndicate were in action today against Hector and Mando Guerrero, with
both teams having something to prove. The Syndicate particularly were hoping to
impress as they look to send Matt Hardy and co. a message before the big six
man tag at Badd Blood. With the huge Matt Hardy banners still hanging from the
rafters showing him in Che Guevara mode under this so called "Cult of
Personality", they certainly had some constant inspiration during the match.
For the Guerreros, they want to impress as they look for future title shots
with Hector particularly wanting to look good as he chases perhaps another
cruiserweight title shot.

Both teams looked sharp but Hector blatant cheating with a pair of brass
knucks he'd had stowed away in his boot, followed by Mando stealing the
turnbuckle pad in their corner that allowed Hector to slam the already groggy
Shamrock into the steel gave the Guerreros the advantage but surprisingly,
Kenny was able to hold on for the time being. Eventually the tag came and Lance
Storm came in like a house on fire, taking down both Guerreros with
clotheslines and beginning to work over legal man Hector. Hector managed to
get back with a rake to the eyes and sent Storm into the ropes for a backdrop
but Storm made a blind tag back to Shamrock who took down Hector with a big
belly to belly. The ankle lock followed and Storm intercepted Mando to make
sure there was no interference and with Hector tapping, the Syndicate had
themselves a win.

The Syndicate (Lance Storm and Ken Shamrock) defeated
Los Guerreros (Hector Guerrero and Mando Guerrero) when Shamrock made
H. Guerrero submit to the Ankle Lock Submission in 0:09:15.

La Resistance pay Matt Hardy a visit

La Resistance were determined to get their title shot today and demanded Matt
Hardy make the match against Pitbull #2 for the Intercontinental tag team
titles. Matt again shrugged his shoulders of the matter and was willing to give
it the go ahead when Pitbull #2, overseeing events on a monitor, came in and
told Matt that he thought everyone would pay to see the match at Badd Blood
and Matt could make himself a little richer. Matt figured that if both parties
agreed, he'd just have the match at Badd Blood and be done with it - La
Resistance actually voiced their disapproval but strangely Matt didn't seem to
hear, and the PPV now awaits for the rematch. La Resistance got very angry
with their protests, but Heidenreich and Snitsky simply edged towards them a
little and the French duo wisely backed off and counted their blessings that
they were at least getting a title shot. And with Pitbull #1 surely absent from
this one, it must be a matter of time now before La Resistance regain the
titles.

"Unnecessarily Evil" John Cena vs Doug Furnas

With an Intercontinental title match awaiting John Cena at Badd Blood, the
unnecessary one set about in a little warm up match against Doug Furnas.
Actually someone like Doug Furnas can never really be described as a warm up
opponent as he gave as good as he got and the two time former television
champion may consider himself just as valid a contender as Cena for a shot at
Alex Wright and the IC belt.

With that in mind, the two always looked closely match with Furnas perhaps
edging Cena in strength and Cena marginally ahead in speed. Furnas kept Cena
on the back foot with his huge patented dropkick which had things looking bleak
for Cena but he was able to just barely kick out at two. Furnas certainly had
him rallied and almost caught Cena with his patented Frankensteiner but Cena
was able to catch Furnas and carry him over to the ropes. Fearing he'd be
dropped over the top, Furnas grabbed the ropes to balance himself but Cena used
the opportunity to lift Furnas onto his shoulders and plant him with the
Eighth Deadly Sin and claw himself another victory.

It had been a close one for Cena, and one man who wasn't impressed was his
opponent for Badd Blood, Alex Wright, who appeared at the curtain after the
match with bodyguard Ulf Herman in tow. After laughing in a manner that might
confuse people as to who was supposed to be the evil one, Wright addressed
"Herr Cena" and "wilkommened" him to his arena before telling Cena that he had
some heavy punishment for Cena at Badd Blood before beating his whip in his
hand. Cena then noted the whip and hoped it wasn't like the sort of kinky
punishment Wright and Herman get up to which left Wright seething and the champ
stormed off angrily.

John Cena pinned Doug Furnas with the Eighth Deadly Sin in 0:09:38.

Jeff Hardy makes an open challenge

Jeff Hardy isn't exactly the most fighting cruiserweight champion ever. Having
been a virtual part timer for the last year whilst he managed Don Muraco to the
world title, he since stole the cruiserweight belt and has used the backing
of Muraco to retain the title. Still, he showed up by himself today to offer up
a special open challenge that any cruiserweight could take up.

The surprising answer came from none other than Rockabilly. Jeff asked him to
give his arguement as to why he was good enough to get a shot, so Rockabilly
noted that as of right now, he is undefeated, he looks good, he's got his
weight down recently after some extra hard training (apparently getting him in
the weight limit) and "I've got without a doubt THE most electrifying move in
sports entertainment today - SHUFFLEBILLY!!" at which point he began to do his
stupid backwards shuffling dance that he calls Shufflebilly. Ironically the one
person in the entire building who was remotely impressed was Jeff himself and
he was all ready to accept the challenge when Brad Armstrong charged out from
the dressing room and sprinted into the ring. Rockabilly made an equally quick
exit and Armstrong chased Rockabilly all the way to the back.

Without a challenger, Kid Kash was next to step forward, but Jeff refused him
on the grounds that he was already getting a title shot at Badd Blood. Kash
reckoned that he'd waited long enough but Hardy was having none of it, and even
looked like he was outright backing down. Kash nodded and agreed he'd wait but
would be sticking around at ringside to ensure Hardy kept it clean.

The third man to step forward was Chavo Guerrero Jr. and he reasoned that
after his win last week, he was the obvious challenger, he was a former champion
and had what it takes. Hardy didn't seem to think so, so rather than argue
his case, Chavo began to regail in a little insult haiku...

"Hi, my name is Jeff
I find Chavo too scary
I'm pissing myself."

Hardy seemed in a different frame of mind now ("Oh it's on") and the match was
indeed on. Chavo looked the superior of the two, especially with the momentum
carrying over from last week and it had to be said he looked good for the
possible win as he repeatedly outfoxed Hardy, ever two moves ahead. Jeff was
rattled and headed to the outside to grab the cruiserweight belt, perhaps with
some method of cheating in mind. Kid Kash at ringside was having none of it and
snatched the belt away. Chavo was on the outside too and he grabbed Jeff and
hauled him back to the ring to finish Jeff off.

Kid Kash meanwhile wandered round the ring with the belt and stopped at the
aisle, facing into the ring - that proved his downfall as Don Muraco charged
up from behind and waffled Kash in the head with a steel chair. Kash was out
for the count and Chavo wasn't impressed, coming over to berate Muraco, who
had sneakily slid the belt into the ring. The ref was too bust trying to get
Muraco to leave to see Jeff taking the belt and nailing Chavo in the back of
the head with it, and the finish following the Haiku Bomb was academic. A cheap
title defense for Jeff, who one of these days is going to have to do it all
himself.

Jeff Hardy pinned Chavo Guerrero Jr. with the Haiku Bomb in 0:04:48.

Rey Mysterio vs Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio tangled again for the second time in the space of
a few weeks and this time there was a lot of tension and anger between the two.
Angle won the last meeting and his determined outlook at the start of this one
suggested the result might be similar second time around. Rey however had
some ideas of his own as his fast paced offence consistently left Angles head
spinning. That said, Angles far superior mat ability was putting him in front
as he wore Rey down and wisely tried working on the ankle so that a) Reys
high flying moves would be limited and b) the ankle lock would prove to be
more effective.

Rey held on galiantly though and fought back, countering an attempt at the
Olympic Slam and drop toe holding Angle into the ropes for the 619. Rey came
in but just as per their previous meeting, Angle caught Rey by the ankle and
pulled him back in - now Reys injured ankle was telling as Angle cranked the
hold on, putting Rey under intense pain, but Rey somehow managed to counter
by hooking a leg scissors around Angles waist and rolling him up for an
extremely close two that looked to have had it. Rey caught Angle with another
drop toe hold and this time he was able to connect with the 619. Now Rey was
on fire and aimed for the West Coast Pop, but Angle caught Rey again and
turned him right over into the ankle lock and after hooking him in a body
scissors, despite the desperate efforts to hold on, Rey was forced to tap out.

Angle was victorious in a superb match that served to highlight both mens
tremendous abilities. Angle didn't care though, calling Rey a 'stinking taco
munching Mexican bandit' in a backstage interview, before he announced that at
Badd Blood, he would be sitting right at ringside during the main event to get
a closer look at the man he will soon be facing for the worlds heavyweight
title, whomever it is that comes out of the show with the belt. Interesting, to
say the least.

Kurt Angle made Rey Mysterio submit to an ankle lock in 0:11:20.

Rob Van Dam appears on the Kings Court

With Brian Pillman having recently gotten a spot on the Kings Court, it was the
turn of his opponent for Badd Blood, announced as Rob Van Dam for whom Brian
Pillman has raged a bizzare vendetta against in recent weeks. RVD himself
wasn't entirely sure what Pillmans issue was, but he certainly didn't think
it was cool, and vowed to teach Pillman a lesson at Badd Blood. It didn't take
long for Pillman to rear his ugly head and head down. Van Dam asked him what
the hell his problem was ("dude"). Pillman put it down to Clash of the
Champions - losing the tag titles and his partnership with Sean O'Haire had
left him a broken man, and after the ring announcer informed us of the new
champions, whose face did he see celebrating in the ring but Van Dams, and he
has forever held him partly responsible.

Van Dam didn't get much chance to reason with him as Pillman quickly blindsided
him with a cheap shot when RVD turned his head to the fans and quickly went
about destroying the Kings Court set, throwing whatever items he could on RVD.
King Kanyon was less than impressive, so Pillman very nearly took his head off
with Kanyons own sceptre - make no mistake, Pillman doesn't care who he hurts
as long as he settles his twisted problems. King Kanyon wisely made a quick
exit whilst Pillman took it to Van Dam before officials spilt in and Pillman,
with a sick smile etched across his maniacal face, left Van Dam bruised and
battered in the ring.

Paul Roma demands respect

Paul Roma is still demanding respect, and he and the Mean Street Posse marched
to the ring dressed in their all black cloaks. Roma said that a group as
DEMONIC and EVIL and SATANIC as them deserved respect and victories and would
prove that right now by taking on anyone with the guts, and until then they'd
start lighting candelabras as a tribute to their dark overlord gods.

Thankfully before they could get any lit, Bruno Sammartino interrupted
proceedings. Sammartino is preparing for his second contracted match in the
DWF with Larry Zbyszko at Badd Blood, but was prepared to wrestle an extra
match to put a stop to this nonsense. Paul Roma looked confident but moments
later found himself well and truly beaten as Sammartino wrenched several
painful looking moves on him, culminating with the Sammartino backbreaker.
Quickly, Rodney and Gas ran in and nailed Bruno from behind, but the grizzled
veteran was barely fazed and began to stare them down.

Finally, they gave up and ran, dragging Roma with them, happily taking a count
out loss. And no doubt they'll think this little display deserved some respect.
Larry Zbyszko meanwhile can't be pleased to see that Bruno still looks in such
good shape and is still as wise in the ring as ever, but apparently he is
going to make an appearance next week with a little something for Bruno to
watch.

Bruno Sammartino defeated Paul Roma by countout in 0:02:16.

Edge & Christian (c) vs The Rock'n'Roll Express

The tag team titles were on the line with former champion the Rock'n'Roll
Express facing reigning champions Edge and Christian. What we expected was a
clean, fast paced encounter and that's pretty much what we got - the handshakes
all round was a welcome sight and two very popular teams engaged in a very
entertaining match. It was the Rock'n'Rolls experience versus Edge and
Christians youth and these factors caused to balance each other out in a very
even match.

Inevitably, Ricky Morton found himself trapped in the opposition corner while
the champions worked him over. In the end Ricky Morton countered an attempted
spear from Edge with a superkick that almost took Edges jaw off. Both men were
down and left to crawl over to their respective corners for a tag. Edge made
it first but a split second later, Robert Gibson tagged in and was a house on
fire, taking it to Christian with some hard shots. He even had a powerbomb all
lined up, only for Edge to break it up. Gibson retaliated with a hard right
that spun Edge right round, and Ricky Morton aimed another superkick at him,
but Edge just about had the presence of mind to duck and the kick caught Gibson
right in the jaw. Edge took Morton out with a spear and Christian came back
to hit Gibson with the unprettier and score the win.

The titles retained, Edge and Christian have a free road to Badd Blood and the
match against Pretty Perfect, who had been watching on from a monitor quietly
confident - no doubt the fact the Rock'n'Roll Express pushed them so hard will
please the upcoming challengers a great deal. In the ring meanwhile Ricky
Morton went to tend to his fallen partner only for Gibson to swat him angrily
away and storm out. Looks like the former champions are experiencing some
troubled times with their unsuccessful efforts at regaining the gold.

Edge & Christian (Edge and Christian) defeated
The Rock'n'Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) when Christian pinned
R. Gibson with the Unprettier in 0:11:03.

Raven vs Juventud Guerrera

As Billy Kidman tries to boost his confidence back to the levels of this time
last year, he awaits his match at Badd Blood with Raven which is now official.
For Raven, this one doesn't even harbour any personal meaning for him, having
settled his score with Kidman with a victory a long time ago. Kidman meanwhile
is hoping to use this one as a stepping stone to maybe even winning the Royal
Rumble again next month and perhaps once again becoming world champion. He
believes he can do it and Steve Corino is telling him to just go out and do it,
as we saw today backstage, so he has the backing and the focus. Maybe he can
do it...

With that it mind, Raven had a match today against Juventud Guerrera and Raven
certainly got a great reception from the fans. One man not impressed was Juvi
himself who, after telling Raven how badly he sucked, said he was only called
Raven because it rhymes with Maven who also sucked badly, in his mind. Juvi
finished off by telling Raven he should be called Sloven because it sounds a
bit like Raven and is a better description.

Rubbishy insults aside, it only served to fire up Raven who, with a ruthless
efficiency, outwrestled the talented Juventud and never looked in too much
danger bar a few moments for Juvi and the Evenflow ended thing fairly
academically. Sadly for Raven that wasn't all as Steve Corino appeared whilst
Raven celebrated and distracted him, then taunted him. It didn't take much
before Raven had had enough and he gave chase around the ring only for Kidman
to jump out and spray Raven with some sort of aerosol to the face, seemingly
in the eyes. Despite such an horrific act, Kidman and Corino seemed dead
chuffed with themselves.

Raven pinned Juventud Guerrera with the Evenflow in 0:06:08.

Don Muraco (c) vs La Parka (world heavyweight title)

Don Muraco had himself another specially arranged title defense against
somebody he wanted a go with in the ring, in La Parka. Last weeks defense
against Hayabusa was one thing as a specific grudge revolved around it but this
match simply came about after La Parka had given Jeff Hardy the run around
in their cruiserweight title match before Muraco interfered and ensured his
manager won the title. La Parka to his credit seemed unphased and didn't think
about not strutting to the ring and shaking his knees at the champion, which
angered him just a little.

If La Parkas plan was to infuriate Muraco before the match, it worked. If that
was supposed to throw Muraco off his game, it failed miserably as Muraco
ploughed through poor La Parka right away in such a cruel and unmerciless
fashion. Sure enough, in a matter of minutes, Muraco scored the Tombstone and
notched an easy win for his resume, not that the fans cared, having seen him
annihlate the popular luchadore.

While Muraco revelled in the victory, acting like he'd actually achieved
something with this spectacle, Rhyno was able to come up behind Muraco from
out of nowhere - possibly from the crowd, perhaps from under the ring. The fact
was Rhyno was right there was the important thing. Last week Jeff Hardy took
a Gore but this time it was Muraco who turned round and saw Rhyno charging in
too late, and the champion was taken off his feet in a big way. As Rhyno stood
above Muraco as the show closed, make no mistake, we've finally got a man who
has shown himself able to take Muraco off his feet with one big move, something
nobody has been able to do. Do we finally have a man who can decisively defeat
Don Muraco? It's just two weeks until Badd Blood when we may just find out.

Don Muraco pinned La Parka Jr. with the Tombstone in 0:04:55.

Wow theres some names from the past.  The Rock N Roll Express, Don Muraco, Paul Roma.  etc...

I like what you've done with John Cena, it seems like he can do very well.  I think he'll win the title at Bad Blood.

Being my first time reading your circut, I don't have all the background, but the Rhyno, Muraco thing seems to be interesting.  The immovable object vs the irresistable force.

Im interested to see where it goes from here.
AzraelPosted on 08/07/06 at 03:50:46

Good match between the Syndicate and the Guerreros. But the Syndicate can't stand up to Heidenreich and Snitsky's laser heat vision of DOOM.

Matt Hardy's a businessman obviously. Plus, this lets Pitbull #2 come up with a partner.

Cena picks up the win and I love what you've done with him. The end comment to Alex Wright was a bit...unnecessary, but that's par for the course.

Good segment with Jeff Hardy. Rockabiilly is so stupid, but it's fun. It'll be interesting to see how long this Don Muraco interfering trend can continue.

Kurt is also quite unnecessary at times, but it's been fun to see his gradual rise through the DWF.

Pillman's snapped again. RVD vs. Pillman would have been fun to see IRL. A pity definitely.

Ah Paul Roma. Trying so hard to become respectable, but that'll be a lifetime pursuit.

Good tag match for the belts. The RnR Express certainly looked strong here, and it'll be interesting to see if they contend after Badd Blood.

Juvi needs to shut his mouth sometimes or he'll get dropped on his head. Can't wait to see what kind of depraved things Raven will do to get back at Kidman though.

La Parka gets killed as expected, but Rhyno knocks Muraco down with a Gore and makes him retreat! I'm looking forward to the brawl that will certainly happen at Badd Blood for the belt.
americamamushiPosted on 08/07/06 at 04:22:04

It's great to see DWF back.

The only time I like Jeff Hardy is when it's Haiku Hardy.  :)  I'm so not a fan of him, but you manage to make me look forward to seeing him.

And Rhyno/Muraco is going to be epic.  Can't wait to see who comes out on top of that one.
Snabbit888Posted on 08/07/06 at 08:53:17

I like the Syndicate and feel they'll be World Tag Team champions sooner than later.  And for some reason, I just can't get into the Guerreros in DWF.  They'll have some entertaining bits here and there, but generally I'm hoping they stay off my TV.

Pitbull #2 has bought himself until the PPV at least.  With how much this show recapper seems to be certain La Resistance is taking the gold, methinks Pitbull #2 has a big plan ready for Badd Blood.

Cena with a solid win over the longest reigning TV champ in DWF history (unless Corino's current reign has since surpassed it).  Cena and Wright should be a good match, but I don't see the title leaving Wright for a little while.

The Cruiserweight Title insult-a-thon was fun, and you're right; Hardy's going to have to defend that title straight up eventually.

Great TV match with Angle and Mysterio.  DWF Angle still uses the Olympic Slam as a finisher, correct?  He might need to officially convert to the Ankle Lock based on this match.  It looked to be what he was going for.  And HOORAY for Angle getting himself involved in the World Title picture.

Pillman is nuts and it seems like his push is continuing in a fast manner, so I see him taking RVD at the PPV.

The only thing that makes using wrestlers from various eras in one circuit difficult is when you run an angle like Sammartino and Zybysko where it's a, "Oh, he's still got it!" thing.  Because hell, your ultra dominant World champion is near his 50's, if not past that, so Bruno's "still having it" is a given with the realm of the circuit.

Great tag title match.  A little dissention with a tag team is always a fun angle (one I perhaps use too often), but I have trouble picturing either Ricky Morton or Robert Gibson succeeding on their own.

Raven squashes the hapless Juvi, but gets Aqua Net in the eyes.  At least his eyelashes will have great hold now.

Expected finish to the main event, and though I don't expect Rhyno to take the World Title by any means, I'm glad you're booking it in a way that makes him seem like a threat.  Can the Gore take Muraco out?

Can ANYONE stand up to such super powers? Not even Superman, probably. That is, if these powers were real...

That did occur to me at one point, realising that whilst everyone else I'd ever used was portrayed as being in their primes, Bruno was portrayed (in my mind) as being as old as he was in, say, the mid 80's. I pondered for a while on how I was going to get around this, but I then though "sod it" and had a doughnut instead. ;)

Else thanks all to everyone.
