THE LETHAL LOTTERY  9/17/2005
HSBC ARENA   BUFFALO, NEW YORK

The show starts off with Arn Anderson in the ring.

ANDERSON:  Welcome everyone to The Lethal Lottery!!! Tonight we will have the first two round of the tournament to decide the first WWA World Tag Team Champions.  The semifinals and finals will be held one week from tonight at our first big event, called A Night of Champions, where all WWA Champions will be crowned.  So let's start this thing off.  All teams were drawn at random.  And now our first matchup.  The team of Steve Corino, and Tajiri, will face...  Johnny Nitro.... And Matt Hardy!!!!

STEVE CORINO & TAJIRI VS MATT HARDY & JOHNNY NITRO

Corino and Tajiri worked very together. They showed many signs of a successful team, and there strategy last week of attacking Matt Hardy came into play.  Hardy on the other hand, had a very hard time getting along with his partner Johnny Nitro.  The arm injury Hardy suffered last week on Primetime at the hands of the same two men resurfaced and Corino and Tajiri were able to take advantage to make Hardy pass out as Nitro watched from the outside.

Steve Corino and Tajiri defeated Matt Hardy and Johnny Nitro when Tajiri
defeated M. Hardy when M. Hardy passed out in a short arm scissors in 0:09:25.
Rating: ** ½

After the match, Corino and Tajiri continued trying to severely injure Matt Hardy, but fortunately Hardy got saved from an unlikely source.  His brother Jeff, who he's been battling for sometime, ran down to the ring to clear out Corino and Tajiri.

LANCE STORM & RENE DUPREE VS THE HURRICANE & CARLITO

Storm still wasn't pleased with not being able to team with his normal partner Justin Credible, but he managed to make things work with Rene Dupree.  But things weren't easy going up against Carlito, and WWA newcomer, The Hurricane.  These four put on a solid match, but Carlito was taken out as his rival, Chris Masters came to ring side and taunted Carlito to the point where he ran after him and chased the Masterpiece to the back. Storm and Dupree were able to take advantage of the 2 on 1 and got the win.

Lance Storm and Rene Dupree defeated The Hurricane and Carlito when R. Dupree
pinned Hurricane after the lung blower in 0:16:15.
Rating: *** 1/4

Before our next match, Arn Anderson came back to the ring and announced one team, Mike Knox and Justin Credible.  He paused before making the next announcement.

ANDERSON: The other team in this match was supposed to be Christian Cage and Charlie Haas, however, both those two managed to get themselves arrested last week.  With that being known, they're team was pulled from the tournament, and luckily we found two replacements.  So Justin Credible and Mike Knox's opponents are Val Venis, and Viscera!!!

MIKE KNOX & JUSTIN CREDIBLE VS VAL VENIS & VISCERA

The shock of seeing these two men took Credible and Knox by surprise, and the big man Viscera was able to use his size to dominate the early part of the match. However the smaller, more skilled wrestlers managed to take control. Big Vis got knocked outside to the floor and Mike Knox's girlfriend Kelly snuck in a kick to the crotch of the sex machine Viscera.  The Big man couldn't recover and got counted out.

Mike Knox and Justin Credible defeated V-Squared (Val Venis and Viscera) when
Credible defeated Viscera by countout in 0:09:25.
Rating: * 1/4

After the match, in the back Shane Douglas is shown arriving in the back, as he's walking through the parking lot, a car comes out from no where coming right at him. Shane dives out of the way by jumping onto a parked car.  The attacking car drives away and Douglas gets up, seeming to be favoring his knee.

RANDY ORTON & TAZ VS JAMIE NOBLE & CHRIS MASTERS

We knew from last week Noble and Masters were a team, and they seemed to be one that could be a force in this tournament.  But we didn't know their first opponents would be Randy Orton and Taz, two of the very top WWA Superstars.  It was evident that Taz and Orton were just in another class.  Add to that, the fact that Carlito came to get some revenge on Chris Masters.  Carlito attacked Masters with a chair.  With Masters incompacitated, Orton hit the RKO on Noble and Taz and Orton move on.

Randy Orton and Taz defeated Jamie Noble and Chris Masters when R. Orton pinned
J. Noble with the RKO in 0:07:02.
Rating: ** 3/4

ROB VAN DAM & SHAWN MICHAELS VS JEFF HARDY & THE SANDMAN

Wow!! A pairing of Rob Van Dam and HBK?? What a dream team!! Jeff Hardy tried to match RVD's aerial show, and The Sandman tried to use his Hardcore style to pull the upset, but RVD and HBK proved to much as they went on to get the the win.

Rob Van Dam and Shawn Michaels defeated Jeff Hardy and The Sandman when RVD
pinned J. Hardy with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:12:01.
Rating: ***

After the match, Steve Corino and Tajiri came back down to get some revenge for Jeff Hardy scaring them away earlier in the night. But they had there intentions stopped by HBK and RVD, the good Samaritans they are, before Corino and Tajiri could do any damage.  As they walked back up the ramp, Corino could be heard shouting "This isn't over"

REY MISTERIO JR. & BOOKER T VS KID KASH & TERRY FUNK

Rey Misterio Jr. and Booker T defeated Kid Kash and Terry Funk when Booker pinned
Kash with the Scissor Kick in 0:09:49.
Rating: ** 1/2

ANDERSON: Next up, on team #1 , will be.... Edge!!!!  And his parter...  Sabu!!!    Their opponents,  first off, we have New Jack!!!  And teaming with New Jack will, The Big Show!!!

The look on Edge's face was priceless.  He was happy to have Sabu as his partner, but when he saw his own private enforcer, The Big Show, come down as one of his opponents.

EDGE & SABU VS THE BIG SHOW & NEW JACK

Edge clearly wanted no part of the Big Show. The Big Show seemed like he was willing to fight Edge, but when Big Show got tagged in, Edge went straight to make the tag to Sabu. Later on in the match, Sabu had the Big Show stunned and Edge tagged himself in and went for the spear on the Big Show. Instead of knocking him down , Big Show went through the ropes. The big man landed on his feet, and pulled out his buddy Edge underneath the bottom rope.  The two then got into a big argument. While that was going on, Sabu was able to hit his moonsault on New Jack and get the win for his team.  Edge and Sabu managed to run to the back before Edge could finish his confrontation with the Big Show

Edge and Sabu defeated The Big Show and New Jack when Sabu pinned New Jack
with the Triple Jump Moonsault in 0:13:49.

The next team to the ring was Shelton Benjamin and Jeff Jarrett.  Their first opponent was announced , it was none other then Raven.  Before Raven's partner was announced, we got a visit again from Arn Anderson.

ANDERSON:  Well it seems we have a little situation here.  The drawing had Raven's partner tonight scheduled to be The Franchise, Shane Douglas.  (Shelton's eyes look like he just saw a ghost).  However, due to an injury, Shane Douglas will not be able to compete tonight.  Also, it seems our entire roster is already involved in the tournament.

RAVEN: That's okay, I'll take these two on myself. I'll win this whole damn tournament myself.

ANDERSON: That won't be necessary.  I made a phone call and was able to make arrangements, tonight Raven's partner will be Christian Cage.

Christian did not come down alone as he was escorted by two armed police officers who brought Christian down in handcuffs.

ANDERSON: Mr. Cage is on a work release program, after tonight, he will have to go back into custody, but he will still be able to be a fulltime WWA Superstar.

SHELTON BENJAMIN & JEFF JARRETT VS RAVEN & CHRISTIAN CAGE

This was a good back and fourth match.  All four men are very skilled wrestlers and all displayed there skills.  Christian though was a little distracted by his police escort.  It seemed like he was trying to find a way to escape their custody but couldn't quite seem to make it.  The Benjamin and Jarrett team took advantage of Cage not being 100 % focused and were able to get the pin on Raven.

Shelton Benjamin and Jeff Jarrett defeated Raven and Christian Cage when
J. Jarrett pinned Raven with the Stroke in 0:11:46.
Rating: ** 1/4
(Shane Douglas no-showed.)

SECOND ROUND
STEVE CORINO & TAJIRI VS LANCE STORM & RENE DUPREE

Corino and Tajiri showed the great team work they have been building and took control of this match from the beginning.  Around the 5 minute mark, Corino cleared the ring of Dupree, and Tajiri locked Storm in his tarantula hold.  While having him tied up in the ropes, Jeff Hardy came back to get some revenge for earlier in the night attacking the Japanese buzzsaw with a chair, leading to a DQ.

Steve Corino and Tajiri defeated Lance Storm and Rene Dupree when Tajiri defeated L. Storm by disqualification in 0:04:52.
Rating: * 1/4

MIKE KNOX & JUSTIN CREDIBLE VS TAZ & RANDY ORTON

This was a great match up.  Orton and Taz continued working well as a team.  Credible and Knox started having problems when Knox and his escort Kelly got into a yelling fight outside the ring.  Credible from inside the ring started yelling at Knox to get focused, but he should have been paying attention to Taz who came from behind and locked him in the Tazmission.

Randy Orton and Taz defeated Mike Knox and Justin Credible when Taz made Credible submit to the Tazmission in 0:06:41.
Rating: *** 1/4

ROB VAN DAM & SHAWN MICHAELS VS BOOKER T & REY MISTERIO JR.

This is what matches should be.  Four great athletes, four hard workers, each giving it their all. No interference , just pure wrestling.  And in the end, it was Shawn Michaels rolling up Booker T to get the pin.  All four men shook hands after, but Booker couldn't help but have a discouraged look on his face.

Rob Van Dam and Shawn Michaels defeated Rey Misterio Jr. and Booker T when S. Michaels pinned Booker after a small package in 0:13:28.
Rating: ****

EDGE & SABU VS SHELTON BENJAMIN AND JEFF JARRETT

The last match of the night, then the semifinals are set. Benjamin and Jarrett just couldn't compete tonight with the combination of Edge and Sabu. Who made quick work.

Edge and Sabu defeated Shelton Benjamin and Jeff Jarrett when Edge pinned
J. Jarrett with the Spear in 0:04:42.
Rating: ** 3/4

After the match, Edge took the mic, while Sabu pointed to the ceiling.

EDGE: Shawn Michaels. Since I signed my deal with the WWA, my one goal was to take you out.  Doesn't matter if it's for the World Title, or tag team titles.  I plan on being the one to end HBK.  Rob Van Dam, the man to my right, Sabu.  He holds your destiny in his hands.

At this point, RVD and HBK both come out and start walking down the ramp.

HBK: Edge.  We got you in the semifinals.  But if your that desperate to get your ass whooped.  We don't have to wait a week, we can do this right now!!!

EGDE:  Bring it on you piece of crap.

Michaels and Van Dam storm to the ring and the battle began.  Those two had quite a rumble with Edge and Sabu.  Then strolling to the ring came the Big Show.  Was The Big Show coming to back up Edge once again, or was he coming to finish what was started earlier? Turns out we'll never know as before The Big Show could hit the ring, his arch-nemesis Randy Orton and his partner Taz caught the Big Show from behind.  Two on one they seemed to be getting the best of The Big Show, then their opponents in the upcoming semifinals, Steve Corino and Tajiri came down to blindside their opponents.  Following Corino was Jeff Hardy who still wanted revenge.  The Riot was quite intense as the show came to a close.

Its one week until A Night of Champions.  Following the mass brawl tonight, and leading up to the big event, what will happen on Primetime.  Tune in Tuesday to find out.

Card rating: ** 3/4

I had a full feedback almost done and then my girlfriend checked her e-mail and decided to close all windows I had home, so here's the barebones.

Tajiri and Corino look very strong, and they are my picks to win the tourney.  They are the only team I can picture staying together for the long run.

And I hated the Christian Cage wrestling thing.  I know you were left with limited options because Shane Douglas no-showed, so I feel your pain there.  But there was no storyline continuity because earlier in the night you say Christian and Cage are in jail and thus out of the tournament, and then suddenly Cage is on a work release program.  Which could work if that was spread over a couple weeks, but they got the deal in place in about an hour, got him to the arena, etc.  It took me out of it a lot.

Other than that though, I like what you have going here.  Edge/HBK is always a good match, so really looking forward to that.

Yeah I got kinda stuck with letting christian cage wrestler.  I got a plan though that should turn out to make it a pretty good angle, so stay tuned.

How did she take getting dumped as a result? ;)

Yes, interesting stuff. It'll take time for me to get in the swing and be familiar with what's going on, and as Snabby said the whole Christian thing involved a lot of supense disbelief, but asides from that there's some interesting stuff here. Edge seems to be somewhat of a focal point so I'll pick him to be the first world champ when it comes round to it.
