[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 10/10/05

Snabbit888Posted on 07/31/06 at 23:08:11

The Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio couldn't fit another person as GCW invaded for Monday Night Explosion, the final one before we are back on pay-per-view! On tonight's show, Monty Brown teams with Matt Hardy to take on Lance Storm and Edge, Rob Van Dam goes one-on-one with Shelton Benjamin, Frankie Kazarian takes on Eddie Guerrero, and Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle each compete in Pick Your Poison matches! All of that and so much more here tonight!

Match #1
Booker T/Rey Mysterio Jr. (w/ Sharmell) vs. The Basham Brothers (w/ Shaniqua & Daffney)
Booker T and Rey Mysterio Jr., after a couple of matches as a team last month, have decided to make the team more of a permanent arrangement. Their next challenge would be that of the former two-time World Tag Team champions, the Basham Brothers, who now seem to be doing the bidding of CM Punk. The Bashams are as finely tuned as they come when it comes to tag team wrestling. Though Booker and Mysterio don't have a lot of experience teaming together, they have both held championships in the tag team divisions in other promotions. It didn't take long for this one to degenerate into an all-out fight, mostly due to the urging of Shaniqua. Tempers flared to the point where all four men ended up in the ring, and despite all that referee Petey Pluck tried, he couldn't bring this match back under control and had to throw it out.

The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) and Booker T and Rey Mysterio Jr. battled to a no contest in 0:05:49.
Rating: *** 1/4

Shaniqua and Daffney pulled the Bashams away and to the back. Booker and Mysterio wanted to keep going, but that wasn't going to happen tonight. I myself am looking forward to when these two teams hook up again.

CHRIS BENOIT GETS FRANKIE KAZARIAN HYPED UP FOR HIS MATCH AGAINST EDDIE GUERRERO
Moments before his match with Eddie Guerrero, Frankie Kazarian was receiving some words of advice from a man who has taken him under his wing, Chris Benoit. Benoit knows Guerrero very well and has him well scouted, so the Crippler was offering up his wisdom for his young protege. We all know exactly what type of damage the instability of Guerrero's mental well being can cause (just ask Mick Foley), so the more prepared Kazarian can be, the better.

Match #2
Frankie "The Future" Kazarian vs. "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero
Thanks to Chris Benoit, Frankie Kazarian was about as prepared as he could be for this match, but with the unstable nature of Eddie Guerrero, it's hard to be truly prepared for him because he's so unpredictable. Kazarian got the offensive advantage early with some nice kicks and some of his unique offense, but Latino Heat was like a boxer - simply riding with the punches and waiting for his opportunity to counter. He found that opportunity when Kazarian whipped him into the turnbuckle. The Future charged in after him looking to drive his shoulder into Guerrero's midsection, but Eddie moved and ushered Kazarian shoulder first into the ring post. To make matters worse for Kazarian, Guerrero threw him into the post two more times. From there, Guerrero went on an all-out assault of Kazarian's left shoulder. Kazarian would try to throw some punches and get some offense going, but Latino Heat would go right back to that injured arm and regain control. Kazarian had one last burst of offense when he caught Guerrero with a kick when Latino Heat telegraphed a backdrop. Kazarian bounced off the ropes and went for a flying clothesline, but Guerrero sidestepped and brought the Future down to the mat with a Fujiwara armbar. Kazarian tried to fight it off, but his arm was way too damaged for him to take the pain, leading to the submission.

Eddie Guerrero made Frankie Kazarian submit to a Fujiwara armbar in 0:05:35.
Rating: *** 1/4

Guerrero had won the match, but he was looking to send a message to Chris Benoit as he refused to release the armbar on Kazarian. Kazarian was screaming in pain, but Guerrero kept pulling back further and further. CHRIS BENOIT ran out like a house of fire to break it up, but Latino Heat saw him, released the hold, and headed for higher ground. Guerrero is great at getting his opponents off their game, and it looks like he's done the same with Benoit. You would think the Crippler would know better by now, but he is an emotional competitor.

Match #3
Abyss vs. Stevie Richards
Poor Stevie Richards. Anybody have a guess at how this match ended? You have to give Richards credit for not backing down against the behemoth that is Abyss, but the guy definitely has more guts than brains. Stevie didn't back down, this is true, but then again he was being overwhelmed from the opening bell, so Abyss really didn't give him much of a chance to cower. Abyss absolutely ran through the hapless Stevie, picking up the win with the Black Hole Slam.

Abyss pinned Stevie Richards with the Black Hole Slam in 0:02:45.
Rating: *** 3/4

Well that was quick and painful. Abyss is looking good going into this Sunday where he will have his chance to become the number-one contender if he can defeat John Bradshaw Layfield.

KURT ANGLE ASKS FOR JBL'S HELP ONCE AGAIN
John Bradshaw Layfield and his faithful stooge Lamont were backstage watching a monitor and freaking out over how dominant Abyss was in his previous match. Kurt Angle came in there to talk to JBL, but JBL wouldn't let him talk as he kept rambling about how much of a beast Abyss was and how he couldn't see how anybody was going to stop the monster. Angle finally slapped JBL and yelled, "Pull yourself together, man!" which brought JBL down a bit. Angle said he was here to talk business, and said he wanted another favor. JBL immediately declined, saying that he has done him favors before and never got his end of the bargain. Angle apologized for any bad blood that had developed between them and told him this time, it was different. He asked him to help him out at Trick or Trouble and to help him win the World Heavyweight Title from Brock Lesnar. JBL wanted to know what was in it for him, and Angle told him that guaranteed, JBL would be the first challenger for the World Title once Angle had it. Angle even went as far as presenting him with a tentative contract. This seemed to be enough for JBL, who shook Angle's hand. If the deck wasn't stacked against Brock Lesnar enough already...

Match #4
Pick Your Poison - Non-Title Match
Brock Lesnar (World Heavyweight champion) vs. Charlie Haas
The World Heavyweight champion was the first one of our Pick Your Poison matches, and Kurt Angle didn't go far outside of who he knew to face Brock Lesnar, choosing submission specialist and one half of the World's Greatest Tag Team, Charlie Haas. It should be noted that Lesnar has been fined a considerable amount of money for his actions against head referee Jimmy Appleseed a week ago. Haas' M.O. was simple, and that was to keep Lesnar on his back and wear out his legs, looking to get the Haas of Pain on at some point. That's a little easier said than done when you're wrestling the World champion, who is not only a powerhouse, but he is by no means outmatched if you want to take it to the mat. Eventually though, Haas rode the storm of Lesnar's brutality and surprised Lesnar with a chop block, allowing him to put his plan into motion. Lesnar took quite a bit of punishment to his left knee and leg in this one, but he wasn't about to give up to Haas. Lesnar's power allowed him to regain the advantage and eventually hit the F-5. Instead of going for the cover, however, Lesnar sent a message to Kurt Angle, putting Haas in the Brock Lock and making him tap out.

[Pick Your Poison]:
Brock Lesnar made Charlie Haas submit to the Brock Lock in 0:12:00.
Rating: ** 3/4

A very strong message from the World Heavyweight champion. I think Kurt Angle may have underestimated Lesnar's submission abilities.

KID KASH AND LANCE HOYT CONTINUE THEIR STREAK OF BEING UNPLEASANT
Cruiserweight champion Kid Kash and his muscle Lance Hoyt are seen walking backstage. Hoyt is fairly stoic, occasionally smiling as Kash makes obnoxious jokes about whichever stagehand or backstage worker they happen to pass. They eventually come across SHARK BOY and D-RAY 3000, and Kash is like a kid in a candy store. Kash started rattling off a bunch of mean spirited and unoriginal insults, including saying Shark Boy's mother was a whale and calling D-Ray "Buckwheat." Sharkie and D-Ray looked confused that they were being berated, so as Kash and Hoyt walked away, D-Ray ran behind Hoyt and slapped him on the ass while Shark Boy took a big bite out of the champ's ass. Kash and Hoyt were stunned, but that shock soon turned into anger as Hoyt blasted D-Ray with a big boot and Kash kicked away at Shark Boy. Hoyt picked D-Ray up on his shoulder and threw him into the cement wall while Kash put Shark Boy through a catering table in the back, ironically covering the man from the sea with shrimp. Kash got right in Shark Boy's face and told him that no one disrespects him like that. God, what a jerk.

Match #5
"The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam (World Tag Team champion) vs. Shelton Benjamin
The World's Greatest Tag Team are looking to become 4-time World Tag Team champions this Sunday, and we got a preview of that match as we had Shelton Benjamin take on one half of the reigning champions, Rob Van Dam. For some reason, these two just didn't click tonight. Not sure what it was, perhaps holding back to be ready this Sunday in the tag match, but both wrestlers seemed to be a little sloppy. A fun match though that the fans were really into due to the extreme popularity of Rob Van Dam and their dislike of Shelton Benjamin. The match was fast paced and action packed, but it would be RVD who would walk away with the victory via the Five Star Frog Splash.

Rob Van Dam pinned Shelton Benjamin with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:10:42.
Rating: ***

Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin both lost singles matches tonight, but this shouldn't affect their performance in the tag title match at Trick or Trouble because tagging is what they do best, which should lead to a great match. Eric Angle and RVD are really starting to gel, so it's a toss up as to who is going to walk out of Chicago with the gold.

COMMENTS FROM CM PUNK AND CHRISTOPHER DANIELS
We got individual remarks from both CM Punk and Christopher Daniels in regards to their upcoming Dog Collar Match for the Television Title, a first in GCW. It started with Punk, who said that October 16th might only be 6 days away now, but it is a day that he knew would be coming for a long time. He mentioned how it was Daniels who originally spread his message in GCW, but he had overstayed his welcome and was no longer useful and thus had to be destroyed. It wasn't about Punk and it wasn't about Daniels, he said - it was about the bigger picture. "You know this goes deeper and further than you and me, Daniels. This isn't about us; it's about a cleansing. The professional wrestling world will be made clean. It's all about the Straight Edge. There is too much sickness and depravity in GCW, and it starts with you. You will be the first, but you will not be the last." The camera switched to the Fallen Angel, who had heard the words of Punk. "I'm not buying into your crap anymore, Punk. Do you get it? You're crazy. This cleansing thing isn't real. It isn't necessary. You've just lost it. But I don't care about what's going on through your head. All I know is I'm going to make you suffer, I'm going to make you bleed, and I'm going to take back from you something I should have never lost in the first place, and that's the GCW Television Title."

Match #6
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (North American champion)/Matt Hardy (w/ Mickie James) vs. Lance Storm/"The Rated R Superstar" Edge (w/ Lita)
This was to be the last appearance on Explosion for either Matt Hardy or Edge, and they were going all out in this tag team match, which featured the combatants in the North American Title match at Trick or Trouble, Monty Brown and Lance Storm. A fun tag team match, and the fans were really into Brown and Hardy, popping huge for everything they did. Brown was by far the most dominant man in the match, using his raw intensity and pure power to throw Storm and Edge around as he saw fit. The plan of the heels obviously was to isolate Matt Hardy, but that too was much easier said than done as he was all over the ring and did a great job at staying a step ahead of Storm and Edge. The match seemed to be fully in the hands of Brown and Hardy, but one thing you can never do is underestimate the levels that Storm and Edge will stoop to. You have to be prepared for anything, and Storm is a wily veteran. Hardy got a little sloppy late in the match when he went up top for a flying cross body press. Hardy flew off with perfect form and connected, but Storm had the wherewithal to roll through with the move, pull the tights, and pick up the quick three count.

Lance Storm and Edge defeated Matt Hardy and Monty Brown when L. Storm pinned M. Hardy after a rollover in 0:08:46.
Rating: *** 1/4

Storm and Edge got the hell out of Dodge before Brown could get in there and extract some revenge. Storm and Edge were happy as clams to get the win under any circumstances they could, but they're going to need a lot of luck if they intend on winning their respective matches this Sunday.

PALUMBO'S PIZZA PLACE - SPECIAL GUESTS - MNM
Melina, Johnny Nitro, and Joey Mercury all graced Palumbo's Pizza Place as the guests on Chuck Palumbo's very special show. A week ago, MNM declared their intentions to wrestle for the World Tag Team Titles, and they have a title shot in the bank that they can cash in any time they want. MNM were confident that it didn't matter who held the tag team titles after this weekend, because they would be taking the titles whenever they wanted. Palumbo mentioned that he didn't know if MNM would be able to beat Eric Angle and Rob Van Dam because they were starting to look good as a team. This upset Melina greatly, who got right in Palumbo's face flanked by Nitro and Mercury to run the Italian Stallion down, threatening to escalate this to violence. At this point, KEN DOANE and HARDCORE HOLLY ran in and we had a brawl on our hands! It didn't take long for MNM to take a powder as Doane and Holly begged them to get back in the ring and fight.

Match #7
MAIN EVENT
Pick Your Poison
Kurt Angle vs. Eric Angle
Kurt Angle knew that he might not be happy with Brock Lesnar's choice for him to fight in our main event Pick Your Poison match, but Lesnar's choice was the very last thing Angle wanted. It was Kurt's own brother, Eric! The crowd exploded when Eric Angle was announced, and the look on Kurt's face was priceless. Eric wasted no time, taking his brother down with a tackle and raining right hands down on him. This pretty much set the stage of the match, which ended up being a brutal affair. Eric has been waiting for this opportunity to wrestle his brother once more since Chaos Reigns back in July, and he finally got that chance. Kurt Angle took a huge amount of abuse from his brother, but Kurt is too good of a wrestler to be dominated and he dished out as much as he received to make this a fantastic match. The drama was so compelling and I don't think the fans sat down once during this match. Kurt kept coming within inches of locking on the Ankle Lock, but Eric continually got away. At one point, Kurt had Eric set up for a German suplex, but Eric showed that great Angle wrestling skill by reversing it and putting Kurt into an Ankle Lock of his own! The fans were going nuts as Kurt struggled in pain to get to the ropes. Kurt eventually got back to his feet while Eric still had him, reversing the hold into an Ankle Lock! Eric was in an immense amount of pain as well. Things looked completely grim for Eric, but he showed his ring smarts by rolling forward, sending Kurt flying face first into the middle turnbuckle. Eric was on a gimp leg, but he managed to get back to his feet and set Kurt up for the Angle Slam. Eric got Kurt up, but Kurt had the presence of mind to reverse it into a crucifix. Eric couldn't kick out, and this one was in the books.

[Pick Your Poison]:
Kurt Angle pinned Eric Angle after a crucifix in 0:20:29.
Rating: ****

A terrific way to end the show as Kurt Angle once again manages to defeat his brother in a match. Kurt's happy with the victory, but it took a lot out of him defeating his Eric. Will this have any kind of negative effect on his performance at Trick or Trouble against Brock Lesnar?

"The Crippler" Chris Benoit vs. Eddie Guerrero
rey619Posted on 08/01/06 at 10:39:09

Predictions:

Benoit goes over Guerrero, and Eddie turns face again as his untimely death is soon upon us.

AJ & Dragon over Triple X. They always perform great in cage matches, but they also loses all of them.

Edge forces Matt Hardy to leave. Unfortunately.

CM Punk retains. The TV Title has changed hands a lot as of late, time for someone to hold it a while I think. Besides, I believe you have great things in mind for Punk.

Somebody must take the title away from Monty soon.. just don't think it'll be Storm. So Monty is my pick.

WGTT regains their titles.

JBL defeats Abyss.. and faces Brock who defends against Kurt.
