GWA Ground Zero - 08/27/05

AzraelPosted on 07/31/06 at 23:56:06

Venue: Landon Arena
Location: Topeka, KS

(Welcome to another edition of GWA Ground Zero! We're starting in the ring this week as "Tell Me Why" by Paul Van Dyk plays as Liquid Sticks walk down to the ring. Deranged taunts a few fans as they make their way down the aisle. They enter the ring and "Yatahaze" by dredg plays, bringing out CIMA. CIMA is getting a shot at the Cruiserweight Title at Fallout and made the match personal by dropping Rey Misterio Jr, Red's idol, down on his head with the Schwein after winning the #1 Contender's match two weeks ago. Liquid Sticks appear to be a little leery of teaming with CIMA after how his previous partners have ended up, but CIMA ignores them and looks toward the entryway.

"Edge of the Earth" by 30 Seconds to Mars then plays as the Cruiserweight champion, the Amazing Red and the Spanish Announce Team come out. Red's problems with CIMA have been documented, but the SAT and Liquid Sticks have had a mini-feud as well, promising to make this a heated matchup. The three men run down the aisle and slide into the ring, but faceoff with their opponents rather than make this a brawl.)

[CIMA and Liquid Sticks vs. The SAT and Red]

Deranged and Jose start out. They lock up and Jose quickly forces Deranged into the ropes. He whips him across and knocks him down with a shoulderblock. He drops an elbow, but Deranged rolls out of the way. He pops up quickly and hits him with a couple stomps to the head, then tags in Spanky. Liquid Sticks whip Jose into the ropes and bring him down with a double flapjack. Jose bounces up to his knees and both Liquid Sticks hit him with dropkicks. Jose falls over and Spanky covers for two before Joel breaks up the pin. Spanky brings Jose to his feet and whips him into the ropes, but Jose manages to catch him with a flying clothesline. Jose rolls over and tags in Red, who hops over the top rope and hits Spanky with a couple slaps before whipping him into the ropes and dropping him with a spinning leg lariat. Spanky gets up holding his face and Red keeps on the attack, whipping him into the ropes again. CIMA tags himself in as Spanky runs by, but Red brings Spanky down with a quick powerslam immediately after. The ref doesn't count the pin as Spanky isn't the legal man, allowing CIMA to surprise Red with a double stomp to the back of the head. CIMA quickly bounces off the ropes and pops Red with a sliding dropkick to knock him back. He brings Red to his feet and hits him with a forearm, but Red responds with a couple forearms of his own. He tries to throw a spin kick, but CIMA ducks under it and grabs him before driving Red's chin down on his shoulder. Red staggers back and CIMA knocks him down with a superkick. He makes a cover, but Red kicks out at two.

CIMA brings Red back up and whips him into the ropes, but Red comes back with a flying forearm. Both men get up and Red sweeps the leg out from under CIMA and goes for the Red Star Press, but CIMA rolls out of the way. Red gets up slowly and Joel tags himself in. Joel enters the ring and fires off a series of punches on CIMA. He whips CIMA into the ropes and takes him down with a lariat. He quickly brings CIMA up and slams him back down. Joel climbs to the top and jumps off with a moonsault, but CIMA gets his knees up. Joel writhes on the ground and CIMA brings him to his feet. He whips Joel into th ecorner and follows in and devastates him with a palm blow. Joel hits the mat hard and CIMA tags in Spanky. CIMA immediately runs over and knocks Red off the apron. He follows him outside of the ring and they start brawling. Inside the ring, Spanky tries to hit Joel with the Sliced Bread #2, but Jose catches Spanky on the backflip. Jose then pulls back, making Spanky lose his grip on Joel and land face-first on the mat. They signal for the Spanish Fly, but Deranged comes in and dropkicks Jose out of the ring. Joel grabs Deranged from behind to go for a belly-to-back suplex, but Deranged blocks it and breaks it with a backward kick. Deranged runs into the ropes, but Jose trips him and drags him out of the ring. He starts beating on Deranged, who struggles to fight back. Meanwhile, inside the ring, Joel struggles to regain his wind, but Spanky gets to his feet and attempts the Sliced Bread #2 again. This time he hits it and he holds the legs for three.

Liquid Sticks and CIMA defeated The Spanish Announce Team and The Amazing Red when Spanky pinned Joel with the Sliced Bread #2 in 0:12:47.
Rating: *** 1/4

After the match, CIMA and Red continue to brawl their way to the back. CIMA blocks a kick to the head from Red and then grabs him and throws him into security barricade alongside the ramp! He runs in to hit him with a palm blow, but Red backdrops him over the barricade and into the crowd. CIMA gets up but Red catches him with a thrust kick to the head, knocking CIMA down into a copule chairs. Red then springboards off the guardrail and hits the Red Star Press! Both men are pretty hurt by the move and don't move much as the crowd cheers the move that Red just pulled.

At the ring, however, Spanky and Deranged run away from the SAT as quickly as possible and leave through the crowd. The Maximos remain in the ring and try to figure out what just happened.

Liquid Sticks did steal away a victory from the SAT, but the main story of this match is how Red faced off against CIMA and did not back down. These two will meet at Fallout, and in their first meeting since the very first GWA show, both men have been laid out after the Red Star Press. Who's going to emerge victorious?

(The camera then cuts to the back where Chris Jericho is walking in the back.)

Voice: Just the man I wanted to see.

(Jericho spins around to find...Kurt Angle.)

CJ: Oh, and what do you want?

KA: Chris, as you know, I have a match with Taz at Fallout.

CJ: And what does that have to do with me Kirk?

KA: Kurt.

CJ: You came up to me. There's no need to call me names.

KA: ...

CJ: What Kirk?

KA: Ugh. Anyway, just because Blanchard's going to threaten me if I snap Taz's freaking ankle before Fallout, that doesn't mean that Taz can't have an accident fom someone else in the meantime.

CJ: So you want me to take Spaz out. What's in it for me?

KA: I respect you Chris. And if Taz can't make it to Fallout, there'll have to be a replacement. And who better than someone I respect?

CJ: I like the way you think Kirk. Consider it done. But you won't be walking away from Fallout as champion because that belt is going to go around my sexy waist.

(Jericho walks away.)

KA: One of these days, I'm going to break his ankle too.

(Before we get back to the ring, the camera goes to Tully Blanchard's office. Doug Williams is already there.)

TB: So are you ready for tonight?

DW: Of course. The guy you've booked me against has absolutely no chance. And if Angle and Taz try to start anything, I'll be there to stop it.

TB: Good.

DW: But I just came here to make sure that you're going to hold up your end of the bargain.

TB: Don't worry about that. You do your part, and I'll make sure you get what you deserve.

(Williams smirks and opens the door to leave. The camera then cuts back to the ring where "Kids With Guns" by Gorillaz plays as Tony Mamaluke is walking toward the ring. He steps into the ring and bounces off the ropes a couple times. He's looking to get a big win here in the GWA right now.

"Simple Man" by the Grouch then plays as Elix Skipper walks to the ring. Triple X has recently broken up, but Elix Skipper has managed to do well for himself. He has a match with Christopher Daniels at Fallout and he's looking to gain as much momentum going into that as possible. As soon he steps through the ropes however, "Head Like a Hole" by Nine Inch Nails plays as Daniels walks to the entryway. Instead of heading to the ring, he walks to the announcer's table to do guest commentary for the match.)

[Tony Mamaluke vs. Elix Skipper]

They lock up and Mamaluke gets Skipper in a waistlock, but Skipper hits a few elbows to the face to get out of it. He whips Mamaluke into the ropes and throws a spin kick, but Mamaluke ducks under and then hits him with a dropkick. Skipper gets up slowly as Mamaluke comes in with a huge forearm to the head. He hooks both arms and goes for a double underhook suplex, but Skipper blocks it. Mamaluke then punishes him with a series of kneelifts to the chest to weaken him before hitting the suplex. He makes the cover, but Skipper kicks out at two. Mamaluke brings Skipper up and punches him a few times to rock him before going for a lariat to knock him down. Skipper avoids it with a backward bridge and then pops Mamaluke with a dropkick. Mamaluke gets to his feet holding his face, but Skipper kicks him in the stomach before drilling him with a DDT. He goes to the apron and waits for Mamaluke to start to get to his feet, then climbs to the top rope. Mamaluke finally stands and turns, allowing Skipper to drill him with a flying dropkick. Mamaluke goes flying away, but Skipper moves over to him and covers. However, Mamaluke gets a foot on the ropes to break the pin. Skipper brings Mamaluke up, but Mamaluke rakes him in the eyes to take advantage. He runs into the ropes and takes him down with a dropkick to the knee, then attempts the Sicilian Crab, but Skipper manages to kick him away. Mamaluke brings Skipper up and puts him in a full nelson for a dragon suplex, but Skipper breaks it and hits him with a roundhouse kick to the back of the head to drop him. Skipper brings Mamaluke up and keels him over, then sets up the Play of the Day. He points at Daniels in the booth before hitting the move. After that, the three count is academic.

Elix Skipper pinned Tony Mamaluke with the Play of the Day in 0:06:55.
Rating: *** 1/2

Elix Skipper has defeated Tony Mamaluke here in a very impressive fashion and in front of Christopher Daniels no less. You would think that Daniels would be up to something, but instead he claps for Skipper's victory, while telling the viewers at home that Tony Mamaluke is nowhere near the level of Christopher Daniels. It remains to be seen whether Daniels will regret dissolving Triple X, but what is for sure is that Skipper will be looking to get revenge at Fallout.

(The camera cuts to the back where Christian York is getting ready for his match in the main event tonight against Edge. Joey Matthews is also with him.)

JM: Are you sure you want to go to the ring alone tonight?

CY: Yeah. Edge couldn't beat me last week, he had to cheat to beat me in the tournament, and I'm pretty sure that for me, the third time is the charm.

JM: He always cheats to keep his belt though. What makes you think this will be any different?

CY: It doesn't matter if he cheats or not. But I want to beat him one-on-one and make sure that he has absolutely no excuses.

Voice: Too bad that's just a dream.

(Edge walks into the shot.)

JM: What do you want?

Edge: Why don't you shut your mouth. I already beat you so I got nothing to say to you. As for you York, I just want to tell you to your face that you got extremely lucky last week. I wasn't able to pin you. But then, you weren't able to pin me either.

CY: That will all change tonight. Because when we wrestle tonight, I will beat you and I will become T.V. champion.

Edge: I keep hearing people say that. But I also keep hearing the ring announcer declare the winner of the matches and STILL T.V. champion to be...Edge.

(Edge walks out of the locker room as York glares at him from behind. The camera then cuts to the ring for the next match. "Underworld" by Anathema plays as Ultimo Dragon walks down to the ring. He's had a rough stretch lately, but he's looking to change that in this match against a very capable opponent.

The lights dim and "O Fortuna" by Therion plays, signalling the arrival of the King of Old Steve Corino. A spotlight roams the arena as the song continues to play and Corino eventually steps out from the curtain with a mic in his hand. He walks down the aisle and steps through the ropes as the lights come back on. He then raises the mic up and speaks.)

SC: Cut my music. Now all of you people here are going to be able to see a true God of wrestling in the King of Old School Steve Corino. This match is just a formality. Ultimo Dragon, you're a good wrestler. You're a legend in certain circles. But you are not going to beat me. You are not going to beat the King of Old School Steve Corino. But you'll just be another man on the list of legends that I've crushed beneath my boot. You'll be another man who couldn't measure up to the man that is wrestling shaped into human form. But most of all, Ultimo Dragon, when this match is over, you will refer to me...as God. Well, you would if you could talk anyway. But you'll be thinking it.

[Ultimo Dragon vs. Steve Corino]

Dragon has had enough of Corino's talking and rushes him in the corner. He hits him with a series of chops and forearms, leaving Corino only able to cover himself up to lessen the damage. Dragon whips Corino into the corner, but Corino reverses it. Corino follows in, Dragon immediately does a headstand on the turnbuckle, making Corino crash into the corner. Dragon kicks Corino in the chest with both feet to knock him down. Corino gets up, but Dragon is right there with the kick combo, but Corino rolls out of the ring before Dragon can make a cover. Dragon follows out immediately, but Corino slides back in the ring. Dragon follows, but Corino hits him in the small of the back with a kneedrop. He drops a couple more knees and then brings him up. He fires off a few punches and whips him into the ropes. He measures him and throws a lariat, but Dragon ducks under and brings him down with a crucifix for two. Both men get up and Dragon knocks Corino down with a dropkick. Corino gets up slowly and Dragon chops him in the chest. He hits a slap to the chest and whips Corino into the ropes. As Corino comes back, Dragon jumps on the middle rope and flies backward with an Asai moonsault. It connects, but Corino manages to kick out just before three. Dragon starts to bring Corino to his feet, but Corino stomps on his foot and goes behind him. He tries to hit a dragon suplex, but Dragon blocks it. Corino hits him with some forearms to the back and shoves him into the corner. Dragon hits hard and staggers backward. Corino grabs him and hits a German suplex. He keeps the bridge, but Dragon gets out at two. Corino hits a huge kneelift to stagger Dragon and runs into the ropes. He charges at Dragon, but gets stopped with a spinning leg lariat. Both men are down, but Corino starts to get up first. He tries to bring Dragon up for a vertical suplex, but Dragon blocks it and counters with a small package. Corino kicks out at two and rolls to his feet. Dragon gets up slower and Corino turns him inside out with a lariat! He then covers and hooks the leg for three.

Steve Corino pinned Ultimo Dragon after a lariat in 0:07:27.
Rating: ** 1/2

It certainly took longer than he expected, but Steve Corino is once again victorious. Corino has his hand raised by the referee and then steps out of the ring, getting his robe from the attendant. He taunts a couple fans as he heads up the ramp. Ultimo Dragon rolls around a little in pain. He came close to victory tonight, but it was not to be.

(The camera cuts to the back where Adam Bramledge is standing by with Jake Roberts and Mexico's Most Wanted.)

AB: Jake Roberts, you requested some time on this program. What would you like to say?

JR: You're right Adam. I did ask for some time. And that's because it seems like the GWA has forgotten about Mexico's Most Wanted. These two men behind me have brutalized every team that they have ever faced. Perhaps they lost to Benoit and Shamrock, but the champions left the match as shells of themselves. They had their lives significantly shortened due to Halloween and Damien 666. But it appears that the GWA wants to keep these men held down...that it wants them to continue to claw and scratch to maintain the position they have earned almost immediately. So be it. Tonight, they face Quiet Storm and Tajiri, by all accounts, two upstanding men. But against Mexico's Most Wanted, that doesn't matter. Against Mexico's Most Wanted, all you can do is hope to survive or give up from the start. The GWA has not seen the last of these two men. And indeed, they will regret not immediately giving Halloween and Damien the title shot rematch that they so richly deserve. Trust me...

(Roberts smiles before walking off with Halloween and Damien.)

AB: Jake Roberts appears to have Mexico's Most Wanted focused toward their goal. What's going to happen to teams that get in their way?

("Bem, Bem, Maria" by the Gipsy Kings plays as El Generico walks to the entryway. He points his finger in the air and yells "Ole!" before walking down the aisle. He's been competitive in several of his matches thus far in the GWA, but he hasn't managed to get his breakthrough win yet.

"Master of Puppets" by Metallica then plays as Doug Williams walks down the aisle. He ignores all the cheers and boos he receives from the crowd and focuses on El Generico. He's been brought into the GWA by Tully Blanchard for the purpose of keeping Kurt Angle and Taz from beating on each other before their match at Fallout. This is his first GWA sanctioned match however.)

[El Generico vs. Doug Williams]

El Generico plays to the crowd to start off, but that's a very bad idea as it allows Williams to rush him from behind and knock him to the mat with a forearm to the back. Generico tries to reach his feet, but Williams stomps him in the head to knock him back down. Williams drops to a knee and grabs Generico by the back of his head and slams his head down to the mat. He brings Generico up and whips him into the ropes before snapping him down with a powerslam. He hooks the leg, but Generico manages to kick out at two. Generico gasps for air as Williams brings him up and hits a couple weak chops, but Williams stops that with a knee to the face. He then whips Generico into the corner and follows in with a high knee. Generico staggers out and Williams bounces off the ropes and hits another high knee to knock him down. He quickly climbs to the top rope and flies off with a kneedrop right on Generico's neck! Williams takes a little time to gloat over Generico's body, then brings him up. He pushes Generico into the corner, then rolls back with him and hits the Chaos Theory! He holds the bridge for three.

Doug Williams pinned El Generico with the Chaos Theory in 0:04:55.
Rating: ** 1/2

Doug Williams has dominated El Generico in his first match in the GWA and pinned him with the impressive Chaos Theory. He stands on the turnbuckle with his arms raised, but "Swamp Thing" plays, signalling Taz is about to come out. Sure enough, the Human Suplex Machine walks down the aisle with a mic in his hand. Williams jumps off the turnbuckle as Taz steps through the ropes.

Taz: Don't worry, I'm not here to fight. All I want to do is tell you something face-to-face. And that is: Stay out of this. This is not your fight. If Blanchard doesn't want anything happening to Angle before the pay-per-view, that's fine. I'll enjoy choking that punk out in front of everybody. But if you butt in at any time, I will not hesitate in taking you out too. Got that?

Williams smiles and takes the mic from Taz.

DW: I'm doing this for one reason and one reason only. And I really have no interest in what you two do to each other, especially at Fallout. But if keeping you apart until then gets me what I want, then that's just what I'll do.

Williams tosses the mic to Taz and leaves the ring after that. Taz glares at Williams as he goes to the back.

("Blue Flowers" by Dr. Octagon plays as Quiet Storm and Tajiri walk out alongside Trinity. Trinity dances a little and then leads them down the aisle, but they're hit from behind with chairshots by Halloween and Damien 666! Jake Roberts comes up from behind them, but stands at the entryway to watch.)

Halloween takes Quiet Storm and throws him into the guardrail while Damien stomps on Tajiri on the ramp. Halloween takes Storm's head and slams it on the guardrail before trying to grate it on the iron. Storm screams in pain as Trinity tries to help, but Roberts grabs her by the hair to stop her. Damien throws Tajiri off the ramp and to the concrete floor. He puts Tajiri on a nearby table and then goes to the entryway. He then jumps off and hits Tajiri with a flying legdrop, driving him through the table! Meanwhile, Halloween jumps off the ring apron and drives into Storm with a flying axhandle. He then picks up a chair and smacks Storm in the head with it! Storm goes down in a heap as Trinity struggles to get away from Roberts. He eventually lets go, but she walks right into a chair shot to the head from Halloween! She goes down in a heap and Roberts helps Damien to his feet. Halloween stands over Quiet Storm and Trinity and tosses the chair aside. Roberts then leads both men to the back as officials come down to check on the three fallen.

(The camera cuts to Taz walking down a corridor in the arena. Chris Jericho walks in front of him.)

CJ: Hey Taz, you should turn around.

Taz: Do you think I'm stupid?

CJ: Don't say I didn't warn you.

Rhyno charges in a second later and smacks Taz into the wall with an axhandle. He brings Taz up and slams him into the other wall. He and Jericho put the boots to Taz until some officials and Doug Williams come to break things up.)

("Bulls on Parade" by Rage Against the Machine plays as the Havana Pitbulls walk to the ring. They're a recent addition to the GWA roster, but they've made a name for themselves and gotten this title shot.

"Whatever" by Our Lady Peace plays as the champions Chris Benoit and Ken Shamrock walk down the aisle. They've fought off every challenge to their titles thus far, but they have a match with AJ Styles and Christian at Fallout and a very tough test tonight.)

[The Havana Pitbulls vs. Chris Benoit and Ken Shamrock]

Romero and Shamrock start out. Romero keeps his distance and pelts Shamrock with kicks to the thigh. Shamrock gets angry and charges with some forearms, but Romero manages to cover up to escape the worst of it. Shamrock whips Romero into the ropes, but Romero comes back with a high knee to knock him down. He tags in Reyes, who comes in and immediately hits Shamrock with a couple hard stomps to the head. They whip Shamrock into the ropes and go for a double backdrop, but Shamrock stops himself and kicks Romero in the head to knock him down. Reyes gets up, but Shamrock brings him to the mat with a waistlock suplex. He tags in Benoit, who comes in and immediately takes Romero out of the ring with a running forearm smash. Reyes gets up, but Benoit knocks him back down with a running lariat. He makes the cover, but Reyes kicks out after two. Benoit brings Reyes to his feet and hits a headbutt to send him into the corner. He tries to follow in, but Reyes moves out of the way, making Benoit hit the corner hard. Reyes grabs him and brings him down with a belly-to-back suplex on the back of his head. Benoit holds his head while Reyes rolls him over for the pin, but Shamrock makes the save in time. Reyes tags in Romero and then slams Benoit to the mat. Romero climbs to the top rope and jumps off with an elbowdrop. He hooks the leg, but Benoit gets the shoulder up just in time. Romero brings Benoit to his feet, but Benoit immediately takes him down with an armbar and goes for the Crippler Crossface. Romero manages to fight out of it, but this allows Benoit to tag in Shamrock. Shamrock comes in and tackles Romero before hitting him with a series of punches to the face. Reyes comes in and breaks it up, then whips him into the ropes. He keels Shamrock over with a punch to the gut and Romero follows with a kneelift. Romero makes a cover for a near fall.

Reyes leaves the ring and Romero forces Shamrock into the corner. He pelts him with a series of kicks, then backs away as Reyes trips Shamrock and then pulls him crotch-first into the ringpost. Romero then runs at Shamrock and jumps in the air before landing a basement dropkick. Reyes pulls Shamrock back one more time and gets back on the apron. Romero drags him toward the center of the ring and covers, but Benoit breaks up the pin. Reyes comes in and brawls with Benoit and they stumble to the outside of the ring. Romero climbs to the top rope and jumps off with a flying kneedrop, but Shamrock manages to roll out of the way. Romero holds his knee in agony and Shamrock quickly lifts him up and drops him to the mat with a takeover suplex. He then applies the Ankle Lock and Romero soon has no choice but to submit.

Chris Benoit and Ken Shamrock defeated The Havana Pitbulls when Shamrock made Romero submit to the Ankle Lock Submission in 0:09:54.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Chris Benoit and Ken Shamrock retained the GWA Tag Team Titles.)

The Havana Pitbulls came extremely close to winning the Tag Titles, but the champs pulled it out. Reyes enters the ring to check on Romero as Benoit gets the title belts and hands Shamrock his. They raise the belts in the air when the Pitbulls spin them around. Instead of attacking the champs however, Reyes and Romero extend their hands. Benoit and Shamrock shake them, but the celebration is short-lived as Christian and AJ Styles hit the ring. They smash Benoit and Shamrock into Reyes and Romero, then stomp away at the champs. Shamrock manages to grab one of Styles' feet though and tries to pull him down in an Ankle Lock. Styles escapes and leaves the ring with Christian leaving with him. They back up the aisle and taunt the champs, who they'll be facing at Fallout in what is sure to be a war.

(The camera cuts to Kurt Angle, who's quite pleased with himself. Doug Williams walks in and gets in his way.)

DW: I bet you think you're real smart.

KA: Oh, why's that?

DW: You got Jericho to attack Taz from behind.

KA: Oh heavens no! Taz was beaten up? How will I go on?

DW: Laugh all you want. But know that I'm watching you. And I will take you out if I don't like what I see.

KA: You can try. But you'll see what everybody else already knows: that I, the Olympic gold medallist, the greatest wrestler in the history of the world, is untouchable. Oh, it's true...it's damn true.

(Angle chuckles and walks off. The camera cuts to the ring where "The Hollow" by A Perfect Circle plays as Lance Storm walks down the aisle. He steps through the ropes and grabs a mic.)

LS: If I could be serious for a minute, Chris Jericho, you shouldn't be worried about getting a title shot at Fallout. You shouldn't be worried about Taz. What you should be worried about is me. Because we came into wrestling together. We travelled together, bled together, but somewhere, you lost your way. Somewhere, you became someone that absolutely no one wants to be around. But you were still my friend. You were still my friend until you turned your back on me. So now, you have the worst possible opponent in front of you. Because I know all of your holds, I've seen all of your moves, I know your tendencies, and most of all, I'm the most capable technical wrestler you will ever see. So tonight, you will face a proud man. Tonight, you will face a man from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. And tonight, you're going to tap out to the Straight Shooter.

(Lance Storm has had mixed success recently as he's come extremely close to taking the T.V. Title from Edge, but he was rejected by the Dynasty after losing to Steve Corino. He tried to fight the Dynasty last week, but ended up being the man pinned by Chris Jericho. This week, he looks to take his revenge in a one-on-one match.

"Jesus Christ Pose" by Soundgarden plays as Chris Jericho walks out and turns his back to the ring. He spreads his arms and then continues to walk down the aisle. Since creating the Dynasty, Chris Jericho has made an impact in the GWA. He looked to get a North American title shot against Kurt Angle by attacking Taz earlier in the show. But now, he's facing off against one of his oldest friends in wrestling.)

[Lance Storm vs. Chris Jericho]

Storm tries to lock up immediately, but Jericho backs away. Storm tries again and locks up with Jericho, but Jericho immediately tangles his foot in the ropes to make the ref break it up. Storm gets frustrated and charges at Jericho, but Jericho takes him down with a drop-toe hold and slides over to put him in a headlock. Storm rolls Jericho over to get a two count, then both men reach their feet. Jericho kicks Storm in the stomach and whips him into the ropes before applying a sleeper. However, Storm immediately hits a couple elbows to break the hold and fires off a few punches to Jericho's face. Jericho staggers back to the corner and Storm climbs to the second turnbuckle before punching Jericho some more. The crowd counts along, but Jericho picks Storm up at 6 and runs toward the center of the ring and hits an inverted atomic drop to stagger him. Jericho then drops Storm with an enzuigiri. He makes the cover but only gets two. Jericho brings Storm to his feet and whips him into the corner hard, making him stumble out. Jericho runs into the ropes and goes for a faceslam, but Storm's scouted it and meets him with a dropkick. Instead of making the cover, he climbs to the top rope and jumps off as Jericho gets up, knocking him to the mat with a flying spinning leg lariat. He quickly covers and hooks the leg, but Jericho manages to kick out. Storm brings him up and throws him in the corner. He hits him with an elbow to the face and whips him into the other corner. Storm follows in, but Jericho lifts a boot to stop him. He rolls Storm up and holds onto the tights, but Storm is too close to the ropes. Jericho brings Storm up and whips him into the ropes and knocks him down with a spinning leg lariat. He makes the cover, but Storm kicks out. Jericho runs into the ropes and goes for a flying forearm, but Storm avoids it, sending Jericho flying to the outside. Jericho tries to regain his bearings, but the crowd cheers as TAZ runs down the aisle with a bandage on his head. Jericho sees him and starts running for dear life, completely forgetting about the match. Storm stays in the ring and gets the countout victory.

Lance Storm defeated Chris Jericho by countout in 0:08:41.
Rating: **
[Taz interfered against Chris Jericho.]

Lance Storm has won the match, but it can't be as satisfying as he would have liked. Jericho tried to get in Storm's head at the beginning, but Storm still did quite well before Jericho's earlier ambition came to haunt him. We've learned that Tully Blanchard has made the main event for next week's Ground Zero a match between Chris Jericho and Taz!

Next up is a pre-produced package with Jerry Lynn.

JL: CIMA, I don't know what I possibly could have done to you to deserve you trying to shatter my knee and end my career. But I know that I'm going to make you regret it. You see, you've already seen my intent. When you wrestled Rey Misterio Jr., I came into the ring not to cost you the match, but to take you out permanently. Maybe I missed CIMA. Maybe I hit Misterio. But I won't miss forever and I will try as many times as necessary in order to make sure you go down. What kind of a man would try to take away another man's career, his ability to feed his children, for absolutely no reason? Only an evil man would. And CIMA, I can't let you run around here anymore. Rest assured, I will remove you from the GWA.

(Lynn stares at the camera to close out the promo. The camera then cuts to the ring where "Lounge Act" by Nirvana plays as Christian York comes out to start the main event. York came very close to winning the T.V. Title last week, but instead fought to a draw with Edge. He still feels like Edge has never beaten him and took advantage of his kindness in order to get past him in the T.V. Title Tournament. He's asked Joey Matthews to stay in the back and will be going this match alone.

"Ticks & Leeches" by Tool plays as Edge walks out. He lifts his title belt in the air with one arm and then runs down the aisle and slides under the bottom rope. He stands on the turnbuckle and plays to the crowd. Edge has done a lot of underhanded things to get and then continually retain the T.V. Title. But he fought Christian York last week for 10 minutes without being able to get the pin. Can he pull out another win in the rematch? Edge drops down off the turnbuckle and takes off his trenchcoat. The ref takes the belt and holds it up before starting the match.)

[Christian York vs. Edge]

They circle each other before locking up. York brings Edge to the mat quickly with an armdrag. Edge pops up, but York hits him with a couple forearms before whipping him into the ropes. He catches him with a dropkick and makes a quick cover for two. Both men get up and York hits a series of punches until Edge pokes him in the eye. York keels over allowing Edge to nail him with a kick to the head, sending him to the mat. He brings York to his feet and runs into the corner with him, slamming York's head into the turnbuckle. He spins York around and rams a shoulder into his stomach. He goes for it again, but York jumps over him and rolls him up in a sunset flip. Edge gets out at two and knocks York down with a lariat. He makes a cover, but York gets the shoulder up. He brings York up to his feet and whips him into the ropes, lifting him up before dropping him to the mat with a flapjack. York rolls around in pain as Edge climbs to the top. He jumps off with a dropkick as York rises, but York immediately drops back down to the mat, making Edge crash hard to the canvas. Edge gets up slowly and York knocks him down with a clothesline. Edge gets up again and York hiptosses him down. Edge gets up and staggers away, but York whips him into the ropes and hits another lariat. He makes the cover but Edge kicks out. York brings Edge up and kicks him in the stomach before dropping him with a DDT! He climbs to the top rope and jumps off with the Moonsault, but it's too early and Edge rolls out of the way. Both men try to reach their feet and Edge gets up first. He runs at York, but York takes him down with a drop-toe hold. York brings Edge back up and goes for a German suplex, but Edge blocks it and then goes behind him, running into the ropes. Edge rolls back with a rolling reverse cradle. He hooks onto the tights, but York still manages to rock back and counter at two with a reverse cradle of his own. Edge kicks out just before three and both men get to their feet again. They trade punches and eventually York gets the advantage and starts rocking Edge back. York ducks a wild swing from Edge and then jumps in the air to surprise Edge with a Frankensteiner when he turns around. However, Edge counters with a power bomb and puts his feet on the ropes for extra leverage as the ref counts to three.

Edge pinned Christian York after a power bomb in 0:08:47.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Edge retained the GWA T.V. Title.)

Edge has stolen another win away to retain the T.V. Title! Christian York fought hard, but he just couldn't pin Edge, which gave him enough time to cheat to win. York tries to plead his case with the referee as Edge celebrates on the turnbuckle with the belt. However, Rhyno runs down the aisle and enters the ring. He grabs Edge by his hair and pulls him off the turnbuckle, slamming him hard to the mat. Edge gets up slowly and Rhyno destroys him with the Gore! Rhyno picks up the title and holds it above his head as the show ends.

A good opener. I like Liquid Sticks (still, what an odd name) getting the victory, and I like the continuation with Red/CIMA. Red used a big desperation spot to take CIMA out. He's going to need more of that if he wants to retain the title at Fallout.

Yay devious Angle. I love using Angle as a guy who is a bad ass but will still be as devious as humanly possible to protect his own ass.

Hrm... I wonder what Blanchard's deal for Doug Williams is. Interesting.

I love the mind games from Daniels. Skipper would have loved to kick his ass tonight, but the Fallen Angel is making him wait. Nice. And poor Mamaluke had no chance.

Ooh... Edge is such a dick.

Man, Corino is a dick too. A good match, and one he certainly wasn't going to lose. Too bad as I really like Dragon. Pish posh. :)

I like Roberts and MMW. The only thing that throws me about them is the total age. I never realized before how old Halloween and Damien 666 are. Doesn't take away from this being a cool gimmick though.

Yes, as if El Generico had any freakin' chance against Williams. It's a good night for the heels it seems. And this stuff with Taz and Williams was excellent too. You have me extremely intrigued as to what Williams could want.

Well that match never got off the ground, and boy is Roberts sick. Poor Trinity.

Ha... Taz is a little stupid. :)

Good tag title match. I'm not a huge fan of Shamrock, but he and Benoit make good champs. I'm shocked Styles and Christian didn't get their asses handed to them considering it could have been 4-on-2. They got lucky for sure.

Storm's promo was good, if not a little uninspired. He has his reasons to be pissed at Jericho though, and these two put on great matches for sure.

Storm gets the win, but not in a fashion he's going to be happy with. I like it because you can do the rematch at Fallout while having a great main event next week. Well played, mate.

Odd for Edge/York to be the main event, but a good match, and glad to see Edge finally pin York, although he needed the ropes for leverage to do it. Either way, not a happy night for him as Rhyno about killed him.

Good show all-around. It's taking me a bit to get into some of the characters as I'm just not a huge fan of some of them, but I like what you have going here.

Holy crap, I had no idea Damien was 45.

Good to hear that you're liking things so far. Hopefully, you'll start even enjoying the people you don't particularly like ;D

It's not even a matter of me not liking what you're doing.  For instance, I enjoy what you're doing with Taz.  The angle is solid, I'm just not a fan of Taz.  Just keep things coming.

Not a bad opener by any means.

Haha... the Jericho/Angle bit? Priceless.

No matter if they manage to take Taz out or not, a meeting between Jericho and Angle in the future is tendy vittles.

Love to see Ultimo Dragon. He loses, but he loses to Steve Corino so it's ok. :) hes another guy I like to see in circuits.

Roberts seems to have MMW focused, but if it going to be enough? I'm not so sure.

Doug Williams was always going to win this one, but still, good win for him.

Hot damn! Taz really should've turned around. That'll teach him to be more trusting. :)

I wonder if Williams can hold true to his threat of taking Angle out. If he does I think he's going to need help if he wants to accomplish the same effects of what Rhyno & Jericho did to Taz

And a nice cap to the show with Edge once again cheating to keep the gold. That rascal. :)

Good stuff, keep it up.
