[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 9/26/05

Snabbit888Posted on 07/30/06 at 07:08:01

We were in Worcester, Mass, the hometown of "Teen Phenom" Ken Doane, at the DCU Center for Monday Night Explosion! Trick or Trouble is creeping up on us, but we had no shortage of tricks and trouble here tonight! We had a huge main event involving ten of the biggest superstars in wrestling today, and the stakes couldn't get any higher! On one side, we had Kurt Angle's team consisting of Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, Steve Bradley, and John Bradshaw Layfield. On the other, Brock Lesnar's team consisting of Eric Angle, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, and a mystery man to be revealed at the match. If Angle's team win, he gets to pick the stipulations for the World Heavyweight Title match at Trick or Trouble. If Lesnar's team is victorious, it will be he who calls the shots. Also on tonight's broadcast, the hometown boy will be in action as Doane and Hardcore Holly take on MNM! Not only that, but our opening match is huge as the newly crowned Television champion CM Punk goes one-on-one with his most hated rival, Christopher Daniels!

Match #1
Non-Title Match
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels vs. CM Punk (Television champion) (w/ Daffney)
This was the opportunity Daniels had been waiting for as he thought he was finally going to get his hands on CM Punk without any sort of interference from anyone else, now that the Prophecy is no more, of course. Things didn't start out the way that the Fallen Angel wanted them to though as with a distraction from Daffney, Punk got the edge with a Pearl Harbor job on his former protege. It didn't take long for the adrenaline to kick in for Daniels though as he fired back, catching Punk with an STO, followed by the Best Moonsault Ever. Daniels was showing that he wasn't there to work by the hour as he called for the Angel's Wings, but out of nowhere the BASHAM BROTHERS were in the ring and they were beating the tar out of the Fallen Angel!

Christopher Daniels defeated CM Punk by disqualification in 0:02:28.
Rating: *** 1/4

The match was thrown out, but that was of no concern to Punk, who, along with Shaniqua, directed the Bashams to put a massive beating on Daniels which culminated with the Ball and Gag Bomb. Punk left with his new posse in tow to a huge amount of boos as Daniels tried to regain his bearings in the ring.

ELIX SKIPPER OFFERS UP A PRE-MATCH CHALLENGE
As AJ Styles and Bryan Danielson were in the ring awaiting their opponents for the next match, they were not at all surprised to see "Primetime" Elix Skipper make an appearance at the top of the ramp, microphone in hand. Skipper told Styles and Danielson that he was done playing games with them and wanted them out of his hair once and for all, challenging them to a GCW first - a tag team steel cage match! Styles and Danielson, of course, had no reservations in accepting this challenge, so at Trick or Trouble, for the first time ever in a GCW ring, it will be a tag team steel cage match!

Match #2
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles/"American Dragon" Bryan Danielson vs. Lance Storm/"The Rated R Superstar" Edge (w/ Lita)
With the steel cage tag team match on the horizon, Styles and Danielson may have suffered from a case of looking past their opponent tonight, who were the ever-dangerous Lance Storm and Edge. Storm and Edge formed an alliance a week ago and as of yet, no one is exactly sure the reason why. They're combined efforts a week ago resulted in Chris Jericho's permanent departure from GCW. Styles and Danielson gave their opponents a run for their money, but the truth is they were way too amped up to wrestle a smart match. They exerted too much energy early in the match, and although they were taking it to Storm and Edge, they couldn't put together a series of moves that could get them a victory. Storm and Edge were patient and rode out the storm (pun intended). The veterans had a challenge, but Edge's Spear on Styles put this one in the books.

Edge and Lance Storm defeated AJ Styles and Bryan Danielson when Edge pinned Styles with the Spear in 0:06:57.
Rating: *** 1/4

LANCE STORM & EDGE HAVE THEIR CELEBRATION INTERRUPTED
As the impressive unit of Lance Storm, Edge, and Lita celebrated their first win as a squad, they were interrupted by "Down with the Sickness" which ushered out the North American champion Monty Brown. Brown was all business, saying that there was something afoot on the Serengeti, and that the Serengeti was his yard. He said that nobody messes around on the Serengeti but him, and that Lance Storm needed to be dealt with and fast. The Alpha Male went on to offer Storm a shot at the North American Title, a championship which he has held for nearly one year now. Storm was all the more eager to accept, telling Brown to come down to the ring because they didn't have to wait until Trick or Trouble. Storm talked a big game knowing he had Edge to back him up, but the cocky demeanor of the heels changed when MATT HARDY and MICKIE JAMES came out to have Brown's back. Hardy grabbed the microphone and said that Storm and Edge had given him a great idea as he challenged Edge to a Loser-Leaves-Town match at Trick or Trouble! Wrestlers have dropped like flies in recent months due to these stipulations, Matt Hardy even previously banishing his own brother from GCW in such a match. Edge was tentative at first, but Hardy's mocking of both he and Lita led to Edge's pride getting the better of him as he accepted the match! Two huge matches signed for Trick or Trouble! Not only that, but we later found out that Tommy Dreamer has signed two matches for next week - Matt Hardy vs. Lance Storm and in a non-title match, Monty Brown vs. Edge!

Match #3
Frankie "The Future" Kazarian vs. Stevie Richards
Frankie Kazarian wrestled his ass off a week ago and earned a lot of people's respect, most notably Chris Benoit, who he pushed to the absolute limit before ultimately being defeated. The two shook hands after the match, and the Future picked himself up and was back in action this week despite last week's loss. Kazarian took on Stevie Richards, who has yet to taste the sweet savory taste of victory since coming to GCW. Chris Benoit was shown watching this match on a monitor backstage, a match that was quite honestly one sided as Kazarian dazzled the crowd with his unique offense. Richards had no answers for Kazarian, who won the match with the Wave of the Future.

Frankie Kazarian pinned Stevie Richards with the Wave of the Future in 0:04:00.
Rating: *** 1/4

Much like last week, Kazarian found himself getting a few more cheers than normally, but he didn't acknowledge them. He was all business this week, putting Richards away in short order. Since losing the Cruiserweight Title, Kazarian appears to have put on his game face, and to use a bad pun, the Future looks good for this young superstar.

KID KASH'S ARROGANCE RESULTS IN A MATCH FOR NEXT WEEK
Kid Kash, the reigning Cruiserweight champion, and his hired thug Lance Hoyt, joined us for an interview backstage. Kash was as cocky as ever, citing that with Hoyt in his corner, his reign as the Cruiserweight champion is going to last for a long long time. He said that all of this past week he has had an open challenge on the books, but no one has been man enough to accept the challenge. At this point, PETEY WILLIAMS arrived on the scene, looking confident, albeit wary with Lance Hoyt standing right there. Petey told Kash that he's not afraid of Hoyt and that he would accept Kash's challenge for next week. Kash smiled, ever arrogant, saying it will be a pleasure to kick Petey's ass next week. Petey turned around to leave, but Kash stopped him by saying, "Oh Petey, one more thing." When the young Canadian turned around, Hoyt met him with a huge boot to the face, wiping him completely out. Kash stood over Petey's unconscious body and said, "See you next week."

Match #4
Hardcore Holly/"The Teen Phenom" Ken Doane vs. MNM (w/ Melina)
Hardcore Holly and Ken Doane have had problems with MNM ever since the arrogant young threesome burst onto the scene in GCW. Holly and Doane are finally starting to mesh as a team as the Teen Phenom has finally started to heed the advice of Holly and stop being such a jerk. They've had their issues with MNM though, who have taken GCW by storm, winning Tag Team Turmoil on the pre-game show before Retribution to already earn a World Tag Team Title shot some time in the future. As of yet, no one has challenged Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury, but Melina's boys were going to have their hands full with the Alabama Slamma and the hometown boy. The fans were solidly behind the faces, but they were going to need more than crowd support to beat the crafty team. Despite MNM's completely unlikable personalities, they wrestle very well as a team, and the temptress Melina serves as even further distraction, as was evidenced tonight. After a good back and forth encounter, Doane looked to have this match wrapped up after hitting a bulldog and going up top for his Flying Legdrop when Melina got on the apron to distract him. Holly wasn't about to let that happen as he jumped in the ring and lunged at Melina, who narrowly escaped by jumping to the floor. However, this allowed Nitro and Mercury to nail him with a double knee to the back, sending him crashing to the floor. Doane jumped down to get at Nitro and Mercury, but they caught him coming in and hit him with the Snapshot to put this one away.

MNM (Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro) defeated Ken Doane and Hardcore Holly when Nitro pinned K. Doane after the Snapshot in 0:07:52.
Rating: ** 1/4

MNM continues on their winning ways, but it took everything they had to defeat Holly and Doane, who are slowly developing into a solid team. With a few more matches under their belt, they could be contending for the World Tag Team Titles sooner rather than later.

PALUMBO'S PIZZA PLACE - SPECIAL GUESTS - ANARCHY
Doug Williams and Paul Burchill, collectively known as Anarchy, were the guests on this week's edition of Palumbo's Pizza Place, commenting about Lance Storm firing them a week ago. The British duo said is wasn't their fault that they lost the six-man tag team match at Retribution and that Storm is in for even bigger disappointment with Edge, citing that it doesn't matter who Storm aligns himself with, the team is going to suffer because Storm is a member. Anarchy's attention next turned to the future, where they said it wouldn't be if they won the World Tag Team Titles, but WHEN, saying that the British style of wrestling is far superior to anything the Americans have to offer. This cheap heat tactic worked, and Palumbo goofishly agreed, saying that the Italian style is the same way, but he was quickly shot down by Williams and Burchill. They concluded by saying that Anarchy was here and that they were taking over.

Match #5
Matt Hardy (w/ Mickie James) vs. Randy Orton
We didn't see Randy Orton a week ago as he was still recovering from his match at Retribution with Abyss, but he was back with a vengeance tonight against Matt Hardy, who we found out earlier tonight would be putting his career on the line at Trick or Trouble. Orton had a vicious streak to him in this one, something he must have added when his father was shown the door. Hardy always wrestles with an exceptional amount of emotion, but not even he could match what Orton was bringing to the table. Hardy hit some big moves, including a flying legdrop and the Side Effect, but Orton was a man possessed and would not stay down. Orton hit his unique drop down backbreaker, but rather than go for the R.K.O. which he would often do, he went to the floor and grabbed the ring bell. Mickie James tried to stop him, but when Randy threatened to hit her, she wisely retreated while Orton entered the ring and blasted her boyfriend in the face, causing the immediate disqualification.

Matt Hardy defeated Randy Orton by disqualification in 0:08:24.
Rating: ** 3/4

Orton lost the match, but that wasn't his concern as he would continue his assault on Hardy, opening up a cut on Hardy's face. Referees came down to try to stop this, but Orton showed how much he respected their authority by nailing them with punches as soon as they got near enough. Orton didn't quit his attack until he nailed the R.K.O., reached down and smeared Hardy's blood across his own chest. This was a strong statement, one that signals a change in Randy Orton that could mean bad news for everyone in Global Championship Wrestling.

CHRIS BENOIT CALLS EDDIE GUERRERO ON HIS BEHAVIOR
Eddie Guerrero was seen walking around the backstage area when Chris Benoit stopped him. For anyone else, Guerrero may have just walked by, but he and the Crippler go way back, so he stopped. Benoit asked Guerrero what has been up with him, but Latino Heat was tentative to respond. Benoit was talking to Eddie as a friend, telling him that they went way back and that he didn't like this change that has taken place. Benoit sued as an example that the old Eddie Guerrero wouldn't have went to Mick Foley's house with a baseball bat and smashed the windows up. The words seemed to be hitting home with Guerrero, who perhaps just needed a stern talking to like this from a friend. After the talk, Benoit and Guerrero shook hands, but Latino Heat showed his true colors as he blindsided the Rabid Wolverine as the latter was walking away. Guerrero kicked away at Benoit before picking him up and smashing him into the concrete wall. Benoit was so taken off guard that he had no way to defend himself as Guerrero continued the abuse, finally finishing it by throwing Benoit down a short flight of stairs. Just when you think Guerrero couldn't get any crazier... the GCW Official Brigade came to check on the Crippler, who was definitely worse for wear.

Match #6
MAIN EVENT
Winning team gets to pick the stipulation for World Heavyweight Title match at Trick or Trouble
Brock Lesnar (World Heavyweight champion)/Eric Angle/Rob Van Dam (World Tag Team champions)/Booker T/Abyss (w/ Sharmell) vs. Kurt Angle/Charlie Haas/Shelton Benjamin/Steve Bradley/John Bradshaw Layfield (w/ Lamont)
The main event of our next pay-per-view would be greatly shaped by the results of Explosion's main event as both World champion Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle assembled teams of 5 to battle in this elimination match. The winning team would get the choice on what kind of match the World Heavyweight Title match would be fought under. Lesnar had a bit of a mental edge going into this match as he hadn't yet revealed who his fifth partner was, and much to the chagrin of Kurt Angle (and John Bradshaw Layfield), it was Abyss! Abyss was here and as always, he was wanting to fight.

There were so many big stars in this match that it was impossible to predict how this would end, but it was well known that which ever team could pick up the first elimination would not only have the numbers edge, but the mental edge as well. Angle sent out his right hand man Steve Bradley to get the job done for his team, while Booker T started out for Lesnar's team. Early in the match, some frequent tags were made by both teams as the pace and rhythm of this match, but the first elimination would take place when Lesnar ducked an unnecessary attempt by Steve Bradley to hit him with Mofo, the black baseball bat, and took him down and out with the F-5. Though the advantage was quite helpful, it wouldn't last for long as Booker T got himself caught by the suddenness of JBL's Stock Market Crash and was pinned.

JBL was looking overly proud of himself after eliminating Booker T, but his smile was promptly turned upside down when Abyss entered the ring. JBL begged off, but Abyss doesn't care about that as he took it right to JBL, clotheslining him over the top to the floor. Abyss went out after him as JBL tried everything he could to escape, but Abyss was right there, slamming him head first into the steps. Out of desperation, JBL grabbed ring announcer William Buck's chair, but Abyss got it from him before he could use it. Abyss looked at the crowd who ere encouraging him to destroy JBL, while everyone in the ring (including Abyss' teammates) were telling the behemoth not to. Abyss didn't listen though, as he smashed the chair directly onto JBL's skull, resulting in his elimination via disqualification.

Abyss might have been out, but JBL definitely got the worst of that as Eric Angle ran around and threw him back in the ring. The elder Angle probably could have pinned JBL on the spot, but he wanted his hands on his brother Kurt, and while Kurt wasn't looking, Eric grabbed JBL's hand and made him tag in Kurt! The former World champion couldn't believe it but he had no time to deal with that as Eric grabbed him and hiptossed him into the ring. Kurt tried to keep his distance, but Eric was completely jacked up, not giving Kurt any room to breathe. After being bodyslammed and suplexed a few times, Kurt finally turned the tide with a poke to the eye and a huge clothesline that rocked Eric hard to the mat. Kurt tried to quickly capitalize with the Ankle Lock, but Eric kicked him off and sent him crashing into his corner. Eric got back to his feet as Kurt looked to charge back out at him, but he was tapped on the shoulder. When Kurt turned around, Rob Van Dam and Brock Lesnar each nailed him with a hard right hand. The former Olympic champion stumbled back where his brother caught him with the Angle Slam! Three seconds later, the leader of the heel team had been eliminated!

The fans were going nuts as Kurt Angle was forced to head to the back, but this match wasn't over yet as it was still 3-on-3. We got a nice preview of the upcoming World Tag Team Title match in the next few minutes as we had Eric Angle and Rob Van Dam showing great teamwork against perhaps the best team in the world, the World's Greatest Tag Team. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas almost had to wrestle this portion of the match by themselves anyway as JBL was still loopy from that chair shot. Things weren't going to get any better for Kurt Angle's team though as he watched on from the back as Benjamin too got caught in the Angle Slam, giving Lesnar's team the 3-2 advantage. However, this would last all of 18 seconds as Haas avenged his partner by surprising Eric Angle with a takeover suplex that caused Angle to land awkwardly on his head and neck, putting him out of the contest as well.

We were down to Brock Lesnar and Rob Van Dam on one side and Charlie Haas and John Bradshaw Layfield on the other. Neither of these teams had any real experience teaming, and the heels were certainly at the disadvantage as JBL did get destroyed by Abyss and a chair earlier. As a result, Haas was wrestling most of this portion of the match himself, which led to his demise as RVD got him with the Five Star Frog Splash. This left JBL in a tricky spot, as he was by himself against two of the best wrestlers in the world. Kurt Angle was a mess backstage as he saw his chances at picking the stipulations slipping through his hand as not only was JBL a bit out of it, but he didn't really want to be in this match to begin with. As JBL got back in the ring, he showed that he was playing possum as he immediately caught RVD with a big boot. JBL was still shaken up though, so he was having trouble following up, which led to RVD getting the advantage back using his educated feet. RVD got JBL in position for a split-legged moonsault, but JBL got to his feet and shoved the Whole F'n Show onto the top turnbuckle, stunning him enough that he could bring him out of the corner with a huge power bomb, bringing this down to JBL vs. the World Heavyweight champion.

JBL was thrilled he made an elimination, until he realized it was all down to him and the Monster From Minnesota. Lesnar was fresh and fired up, taking it to JBL and throwing the stock market genius around like he was a much smaller man. JBL got a couple of shots in, but Lesnar was mowing through him like a high-powered lawn mower through the tall weeds. Three consecutive overhead belly-to-belly suplexes had him in complete control of this, but KURT ANGLE saw everything slipping away, so he ran down to get Lesnar's attention. Angle jumped up on the apron, but the World champion caught him with a hard right hand that knocked him to the floor. However, the distraction allowed JBL to roll Lesnar up and with a handful of the ropes, picked up a huge upset!

Elimination Match:
Team Angle (Charlie Haas, Kurt Angle, Shelton Benjamin and Steve Bradley) and John Bradshaw Layfield beat Brock Lesnar, Eric Angle, Rob Van Dam, Abyss and Booker T 5 falls to 4:
x Lesnar beat S. Bradley via the F-5 in 0:03:31
x JBL beat Booker via the Stock Market Crash in 0:07:16
x JBL beat Abyss via a disqualification in 0:11:14
x E. Angle beat K. Angle via the Angle Slam in 0:14:02
x E. Angle beat S. Benjamin via the Angle Slam in 0:17:17
x C. Haas beat E. Angle via a takeover suplex in 0:17:35
x RVD beat C. Haas via the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:20:18
x JBL beat RVD via a power bomb in 0:23:29
x JBL beat Lesnar via a roll-up in 0:25:52
Survivors: John Bradshaw Layfield
Rating: ** 3/4

Because of JBL being the sole survivor, Kurt Angle will now get to choose the stipulations for the World Title match at Trick or Trouble. Lesnar was extremely pissed off with the circumstances that he lost the match, but the fact remains that he lost the match and Kurt Angle will call all the shots.

Updated card for Trick or Trouble, October 16, 2005, from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois:

World Heavyweight Title - Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Kurt Angle

Angle chooses the stipulation for the main event at Trick or Trouble, awesome!!!  Here's hoping he chooses something in his favor, perhaps Ultimate Submission?

Edge or Matt Hardy?  Who should go?  Probably Hardy.

If the cage match doesn't steal the show @ Trick or Trouble, then I'll eat my hat (provided I have to buy a hat first)

Eventually stuff gets repetative in wrestling, but you definitely have a knack for new stuff, and keeping it interesting.  It's obvious you love the circuit.  Keep it up.
Snabbit888Posted on 07/31/06 at 07:16:16

Thank you, and yes, I do have a lot of fun with this circuit.  I'm actually streamlining it a bit so I can keep it going and not get burnt out.  I'm trying to minimize the number of segments to have on each show so I can keep pumping them out, but that means I have to systematically gets guys off my roster.  Slowly, but surely, I'm getting rid of the fodder I don't want to mess with anymore.

Anyway, thanks for the comments.

I don't have too much specific to say, but the main event looked pretty good, igniting old feuds and continuing present ones. JBL avenged his loss in the Chamber, and at this point I think it's a given that JBL will be the next contender.
