With only 1 day to go until Saturday Night Main Event, 1 night before Rob van Dam takes on Rey Mysterio for the WWC World Heavyweight Title, WWC visited Philly for the biggest crowd since its inception.

Non-televised matches

Mexicools (Psicosis and Super Crazy) defeated
The Shane Twins (Mike Shane and Todd Shane) when Psicosis pinned M. Shane
with the Psycho Guillotine in 0:07:34.
Rating: ** 3/4
[Harry Smith interfered against Psicosis.]

Chris Cage pinned Brian Kendrick with the Flying Cross Body Press in 0:06:11.

Lashley pinned Ace Steel with the Dominator in 0:10:21.

Backstage
MNM is goofing around in their locker room when Melina comes in and sets them straight by pulling on their earlobes and tells them to sit. She informs them that Hart Foundation 2G gets a final chance to earn a title shot tomorrow. If they can defeat both MNM's in single matches, that is. Not only that, she will be banned from ringside as well if that happens. However, Melina has taken the liberty to cancel Harry Smith's flight from Canada, so Teddy Hart has to do double duty and defeat them both. Mercury and Nitro laugh it off, saying that Hart stands no chance defeating either one of them, let alone both. Melina says she agrees, but that she doesn't take any chances with regards to CM Punk. She tells them she'll keep Punk occupied for the evening. She shoulders a purse, and a pair of handcuffs falls out. Nitro gets a confused look as Melina walks out on her high heels. Mercury and Merciless start laughing, and Nitro tells them to shut up.

In ring
Footage from the non-televised event 12 days ago is shown, and we see Bill Alfonso attack Rey Mysterio, causing the dq. The WWC champ then enters, carrying his belt around his waist. Rey calls out RVD for an explanation. The challenger comes out, accompanied by Alfonso. They receive a loud pop from the Philly-based ECW fans.

Rey says he doesn't want Alfonso in the ring, but an angry RVD tells Mysterio that Bill will be in his corner tomorrow, so he's gonna be here tonight as well. Rey then goes on and asks RVD if tomorrow night will be an athletic contest between two of the best wrestlers of this decade, or if Bill will make his presence known. RVD says he's saddened to hear Rey think of him in that way. He apologizes for Bill's actions 12 days ago, saying that he sometimes gets a little to enthusiastic. Bill cuts in, telling Rey that it's nothing personal, but when he's the manager, he'll do anything to have his man win the match. He goes on to call RVD the best wrestler ever who never won a World Title, but that'll change soon enough. Tomorrow night, Rey would see the belt around his small waist for the last time. That is, if he would even make to tomorrow. RVD asks what he means by that. Bill responds that he has made a deal with a fellow manager, a deal that is mutually beneficial. Alfonso claps his hands, and Dusty Rhodes comes out with Kash and Noble, directing them to the ring.

We hear Rey accusing RVD of betraying him, and before RVD can say something to defend himself, Rey slaps him. Then the team of Kash & Noble is upon him, pounding him to the mat and stomping away on him. RVD tries to get some answers from Alfonso, but does nothing to help Rey Rey. The help is on the way though, as Elijah Burke and William Regal run down to aid the champ. Michael Cole gets really excited by seeing Burke, and starts shouting and hollering at him.

When we come back from the commercial, we learn that with the arrival of Regal and Burke, Rey was saved. But that was not all, as Shane McMahon has signed a huge six-man main event for tonight, pitting Regal, Burke and Rey vs RVD, Kash and Noble.

Burchill vs Ken Kennedy

Both of these guys are just one night away from their very first PPV in WWC. Burchill is facing Test, while Kennedy has a daunting task ahead of him, taking down the undefeated monster known as Lashley.

Test joined the announce team, telling Taz and Cole that tomorrow, Burchill won't be smiling so much anymore, cause he won't have any teeth left. Test did not think Burchill would be so arrogant around the ladies without teeth. Cole started telling Test that maybe HE was the arrogant and cocky one, but Taz cut him off, saying that he had no business discussing how to pick up ladies, as he was probably more interested in picking up men.

As Taz and Cole argued, Test moved away from the announce booth, catching the attention of Burchill who'd just sent Kennedy down with the Air Raid Crash. They talked smack to each other for a short while, before Burchill tried to swing at Test. Test ducked and gave Burchill a hotshot. Burchill was taken by surprise by Kennedy who got the German suplex and the win in a rather lackluster match where the crowd really didn't seem to bother.

[Test interfered against Burchill.]

The announce booth drama continued when Taz told Cole to go back and tell Burke that he's coming out of the closet. Cole didn't take it anymore, and told Taz he would switch places with Josh Matthews for the night.

At a nearby motel..
Melina stands outside a motel room when CM Punk approaches her. Melina thanks him for coming on such short notice. Punk wants to know what she wants. Melina opens the door and lets them in. She tells Punk she wants this unneccesary war to end. She really doesn't want to see Punk destroying Merciless tomorrow. Punk says he won't fall for her false praise, but agrees that this war must come to and end. Melina finds a bottle of champagne and starts to pour two glasses. They toast for peace, and lie down on the bed together.

Melina then says she's got something for Punk. Punk says he's got a little something himself. They both reach for something in their purses/shoulderbags. They pull this something out, and then quickly begins to tangle with each other. After a brief struggle, along with curses and shouting, they discover they're both handcuffed to the bed! Apparently, both had the same idea, keep the other away from tonight's show!

Johnny Nitro vs Teddy Hart

Hart Foundation's title hopes depended on Teddy Hart defeating both the co-holders of the WWC Tag Team titles. Since Harry Smith hadn't reached the arena yet after performing for Stampede Wrestling, it was up to Smith. First obstacle, Johnny Nitro.

Nitro was pleased to see that no CM Punk was sitting ringside, but just as nervous for why Melina wasn't there to back him up. This was probably why Hart was able to steamroll through Nitro, hitting him with a flurry of lightning quick moves, including a reverse top-rope rana that launched Nitro halfway through the ring. Hart wins easily with a moonsault.

Teddy Hart pinned Johnny Nitro after a moonsault in 0:02:25.

(Harry Smith no-showed.)

Joey Mercury vs Teddy Hart

Mercury slid into the ring, telling Nitro to go find Melina. Seems that these champions cannot win without their manager ringside.

Mercury tried to stall Hart, giving Nitro the time to find his girlfriend. Hart would have nothing of it, his adrenaline already pumped up after his previous quick win over Mercury's tag partner, unleashing a barrage of uppercuts and elbowsmashes as Mercury sought refuge in the corner. Mercury slowed the pace down when he landed Hart with a facebuster, working on Teddy with chokes and submissions close to the ropes. When ref Korderas told him to let go, he let go for a few seconds before clasping it on again. Hart got out of his predicament when he reversed an armbar attempt, forcing Mercury into the ropes. Hart pulled Mercury to his feet by his hair and dropped him with an inverted bulldog, cradling the legs for the three count.

Teddy Hart pinned Joey Mercury after an inverted bulldog in 0:05:01.
Rating: ****

Teddy Hart has beaten both MNM members in under 10 minutes! It seems as if these boys just can't kick out on their own volition! Now, we have Hart Foundation 2G vs MNM at SNME, without Melina ringside. Whether or not she chooses to still be locked up in bed with CM Punk is a whole different matter though.

Dragon Kid vs Nunzio

A highly entertaining cruisermatch, where Dragon Kid really showed how quick he is, taking Nunzio down with a rana just a split second after hitting him with a stunner. Nunzio was catapulted out of the ring with a monkey flip, and the green-clad Puro star flew to the outside with a ropeflip moonsault. Nunzio managed a small comeback with some nice jabs and a bodyslam, but Dragon Kid countered by putting Nunzio in the painful Cristo hold. Nunzio reached the ropes, but when he thought Dragon Kid had forgotten all about him, he hit him with the Dragon Rana from the top. Blink, and you'll miss it.

After the match, all three members of the Dojo beat on the poor Nunzio before Brian Kendrick and Paul London ran in for the save.

Dragon Kid pinned Nunzio with the Dragon Rana in 0:06:32.

After the commercial, Taz (now announcing alone) told us that Shane McMahon had signed a six-man tag team match for tomorrow, pitting the Dojo against Kendrick, London and Nunzio.

Interview with Lashley.. sort of..

Michael Cole has taken on some backstage interviewing duties tonight, and stood by with Lashley. "The Real Deal" said that he was undefeated so far in WWC, and that tomorrow, he would steamroll through Ken Kennedy as well. And then... and that was all we got to know, as Cole spotted Elijah Burke on his way to the main event. Cole wished Burke good luck tonight, and gave him a long hug. Burke seemed a little surprised, but thanked his friend and went on his way as Beth giggled a little, seemingly more in the loop than Burke is.

Rey Mysterio, Elijah Burke & William Regal vs Rob Van Dam, Jamie Noble & Kid Kash

Mega main event, as six men who're facing each other in singles competition tomorrow night teamed up for a real fight.

Burke didn't waste time targetting the volatile Kash, almost acting as a brawler and not the allround ring talent he is. Regal and Noble engaged each other in a mat-wrestling contest, trading armdrags and gutwrench suplexes as the World Heavyweight Champion and his challenger had a staredown. While Bill Alfonso tried to convince RVD to attack Rey, Burke snuck back in and landed a clothesline on RVD, starting the match.

Throughout the barely 5 minutes of the match, neither of the feuding wrestlers squared off, and whenever it looked like it might happen, a tag took place to prevent it. The quick finish came when Regal tried to lock Kash in the Regal stretch, and Dusty Rhodes entered the ring and slugged at Regal with his big fists. Alfonso tried to sneak attack Rey with a chair, but the champ caught him and pushed him down of the apron. RVD took offense to this, dropkicking Rey off the apron and into the announce table.

Kid Kash, Jamie Noble and Rob Van Dam when W. Regal defeated J. Noble by
disqualification in 0:04:43.

[Dusty Rhodes interfered against William Regal.]

In the ring, Team Rhodes attacked Regal and Burke. Dusty gave Burke plenty of Bionic Elbows as Kash held him in a full nelson position, while Noble managed to lock in the Dragon Sleeper on Regal.

On the outside, Alfonso was blowing his whistle like a madman, but RVD did not attack Rey, choosing instead to pick up the World Heavyweight Belt and drop it casually to Rey's side before he returned to the back.

Taz and Josh Matthews wishes everyone back to the arena for tomorrow night, live on PPV, Saturday Night Main Event!

Small clip

At the end of the show, we see someone sitting in the dark in front of a computer screen. We zoom in on the screen, and it seems he's purchasing tickets for tomorrow's SNME. Who can this be? Hint: We can hear Japanese people talking on the TV in the background..

Card rating: ** 3/4

The battle lines have been drawn for tomorrow night! RVD and Rey finally came to blow, now the match will get a completely different atmosphere to it! Also, will Jamie Noble succeed in retaining his Strong-Style Championship against the man's man William Regal? Will Elijah Burke give the wifebeater Kid Kash what he deserves? Can Ken Kennedy stop the dominant force that is Lashley? And will Test get even with the successful Don Juan, Burchill? And maybe most importantly of all.. will Melina and CM Punk make it out of bed by 8 PM?

Tune in...

... and predictions...

*** News ***

- World Wrestling Confederation revealed on their webpage later this Friday that they will begin a tag-team tournament on the first Smackdown following Saturday Night Main Event. It will be an internationally flavored tournament entitled Tag-Team World Cup 2007, featuring teams from 8 different nations.

The teams are as follows:

USA (Paul London & Brian Kendrick)
Canada (Teddy Hart & Harry Smith)
Mexico (Super Crazy & Psycosis)
Japan (The Dojo)
United Kingdom (Cpt. Burchill and First Mate Spud)
Scotland (The Highlanders - Rory and Robbie McAlister)
Italy (Nunzio & Tony Mamaluke)
Europe (Claudio Castagnoli & Emil Sitoci)

In addition to a nice trophy, the winners will receive a tag-team title shot.

- Shane McMahon is apparently high on tournaments, as it is rumored that he will hold at least one other tournament this year, in addition to the highly anticipated return of King of the Ring. This tournament is rumored to be a singles tournament where 8 of the hottest indy talents will be given a contract upon winning the tournament.

- It appears that Ken Kennedy's injury is so severe that he may not be able to compete in the match against Lashley tomorrow night. Inside reports tells of a management that is afraid that Kennedy will get even more injured if he goes through with the match, and that a quick squash will destroy Kennedy's character. No word if there will be any replacement for Kennedy.

- Chris Cage is still on a PPA contract with WWC, and has reportedly refused to sign an exclusive contract. Many fear that Cage may be on his way to WEW, and is keeping his options open. Don't expect Cage to be heavily pushed before they reach an agreement on this.

HAHAHA! That angle involving Melina and CM Punk was hilarious! I envision Melina doing something like that too. However, what a surprise that CM Punk had the same idea.

Geez, CM Punk is dating Maria and now he's handcuffed to Melina? Well, I guess the rumors of CM standing for chick magnet are true.  :)

I'm also glad to see a Crockett Cup like tag team tournament. Those were always fun to watch.
