Real Pro Wrestling Slam Zone 6/14/2006

DARK MATCHES:

[Dark Match]:
Jimmy Jacobs pinned Adam Pearce with the Contra Code in 0:08:30.
Rating: ** 3/4

Adam Pearce dominated early due mostly to the fact that he had several inches and close to 100 pounds on Jacobs. JJ got back into the match with some underhanded tactics and eventually hit the Contra Code for the win, much to the delight of the live crowd.

[Dark Match]:
Brian Kendrick and Paul London defeated The Heartbreakers (Romeo Roselli and Antonio Thomas) when B. Kendrick pinned Antonio after a flying senton in 0:06:40.
Rating: ** 1/4

The Heartbreakers showed some great teamwork throughout the match and kept Paul London isolated. Kendrick finally got in and cleaned house, using his speed to bust out some quick moves and pick up a surprise victory.

[Dark Match]:
911 pinned Lance Hoyt with the Choke Slam in 0:09:27.
Rating: **

Lance Hoyt did not know what he was in for as a rejuvenated 911 brought the fight to him in what ended up being an extended squash. 911 brawled with Hoyt all around ringside, breaking several foreign objects over Hoyt's head before finally ending him with a massive Choke Slam.

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the inaugural Real Pro Wrestling event. RPW isn't about contrived ideas or far out, soap opera-like stories. It is about the spirit of competition. These are wrestlers not sports entertainers and they want to prove that they are the best in the business today. The only way to do that is to win in the ring, ascend in the rankings and hopefully attain eternal glory by winning one of the championship belts: the RPW Heavyweight Title, the RPW Champion's Trophy and the RPW Tag Team Titles. The journey starts tonight as the Tag Team and Heavyweight Title tournaments will begin with Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero, The Kings of Wrestling, take on AJ Styles and Air Paris. In a Battle of the Boyz, The Hardy Boyz will wrestle The Backseat Boyz. Three Heavyweight Title Tournament matches will go down as "The Blueprint" Matt Morgan faces Low Ki, Charlie Haas battles Daniel Puder and CM Punk gets a shot at Sabu in our main event. Tonight is the start of something big as RPW is looking to single handedly change the course of professional wrestling today.

Four Corners Match:
Bryan Danielson defeated James Gibson, Kaos and Jimmy Rave when B. Danielson pinned J. Gibson after the Running Forearm Smash in 0:05:16.
Rating: *** 1/4

It seemed as if Bryan Danielson was trying to prove a point tonight. He never left the ring, as the other three combatants took turns wrestling him. The American Dragon displayed a vicious side towards the end of the match as he used the brass knuckles that Kaos brought into the ring earlier on and got at least one shot in on each man. After winning, Danielson helped James Gibson up from the mat and shook his hand. Gibson was a little tentative as he was on the receiving end of several brass knuckle shots but he accepted and wished Danielson luck. By virtue of winning, Danielson will go on to face Raven in the first round of the Heavyweight Title tournament at Slam Zone in two weeks.

The Kings of Wrestling are already in the ring as we come back from commercials. Claudio Castagnoli has a mic and it looks like he has something to say.

CC: A lot of you people may not know who we are but I guarantee you all that you will never forget us. You are in the presence of tag team excellence. I am the hottest Swiss Import on the market today, Claudio Castagnoli. He is RPW's real life super hero, Chris Hero. Together we are THE KINGS OF WRESTLING.

The crowd is rather indifferent to these two as Claudio is dressed up in a ridiculous sequined suit and Chris Hero is wearing a Superman-like bodysuit with an H over his chest.

CC: That's fine. You might not care now but in a few years when we are a legendary tag team you can tell your grandchildren that you were there for the Kings' first tag team match in RPW. We are already the best in the business today but you will come around, I guarantee that. RPW might as well give us the belts right now because there is no competition for....

Before the cocky Castagnoli could even finish his sentence their opponents for tonight, AJ Styles and Air Paris, sprint down to the ring. Referee Marshall Anderson rings the bell and the match is underway.

The Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli) defeated
Air Paris and AJ Styles when Castagnoli pinned Styles with the Ricola Bomb in 0:10:22.
Rating: ** 3/4

The Kings of Wrestling looked impressive in their RPW debut. Solid teamwork helped keep the speedier Styles and Paris off guard. Just as it looked like the match was slipping away, Hero and Castagnoli were able to capitalize on mistakes, isolate a weakened AJ Styles and pick up the victory. While they wrestled a clean match their post-match tactics were severely dirty as Chris Hero gave AJ Styles the Hero's Welcome and Air Paris received a massive Ricola Bomb for his trouble. The Kings laid in a few stomps on their fallen opponents before exiting the ring.

The camera shifts to the back where a focused Matt Morgan is WALKING~! He looks to be in a zone, focused on his match with Low Ki, and isn't paying attention to anyone around him. He bumps a man whose back is facing the camera and keeps walking. The camera focuses in on the man as he turns around and it's THE ROCK! Rocky rips off his sunglasses and gives Morgan the People's Eyebrow. He eventually shrugs the encounter off as there are decidedly bigger fish to fry in RPW. The Rock turns back around and into the picture walks RANDY ORTON! Orton has his typical cocky smile plastered onto his face.

RO: Hey Rocky, I just want to be the first to welcome you back to wrestling and RPW. I see we were at opposite ends of the Heavyweight Title bracket and I really look forward to meeting up with you in the finals. Now I don't want you to get your hopes up as you and I both know that I will walk out with the belt but I still think it would be a pleasure beating your ass in front of a live crowd. You see, I am destined to win...

R: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Who in the blue hell are you?

RO: I'm not falling for that trick Rocky. You know exactly who I am.

R: Okay, okay. The Rock knows exactly who you are, jabronie. The Rock thinks that there is a very good chance that Randy Orton and Rocky will go one on one in the finals but The Rock isn't concerned about that right now. The Rock is concerned about something else entirely.

RO: Oh yeah, what's that Rocky?

R: The Rock is concerned for your health because there is one angry Canadian standing right behind you.

Right after The Rock finishes his sentence CHRIS JERICHO comes flying into the picture and jumps Randy Orton from behind. These two will go one on one next week in the first round of the Heavyweight Title tournament. Y2J almost certainly took exception to Orton's looking passed him. The two have to be pulled apart by security as The Rock stands in the background, egging it on.

Rating: ** 1/4

Matt Morgan looked impressive tonight as he took the fight to one of the top young talents in pro wrestling today, Low Ki. Morgan hit a Moonlight Bomb right after the bell rang and almost picked up the win right then and there. Morgan showed some great awareness as every time Low Ki tried to pick up the pace of the match to better suit his style The Blueprint would slow it back down with a variety of chokes and other tactics. Morgan stood over a fallen Low Ki after winning the match and made a motion signifying that the Heavyweight Title is his for the taking. Matt Morgan will face the winner of next week's match between Chris Jericho and Randy Orton.

Rating: *** 1/4

Haas and Puder put on a great chain wrestling clinic from the get go and displayed a mat based style that is a big change of pace compared to the other RPW competitors. Puder unleashed an early barrage of offense and even had Haas locked in the Keylock but Charlie managed to break free. He slowly turned the tide of the match and worked over Puder's back with repeated German Suplexes and double axe handles to the back. Haas won the match with a legsweep but it was over before that as he roughed Puder up outside the ring. Charlie Haas moves on to face the winner of the intriguing match up between Edge and Matt Hardy.

The Backseat Boyz (Johnny Kashmere and Trent Acid) defeated The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) when Acid pinned M. Hardy after the T_Gimmick in 0:12:00.
Rating: *** 3/4

The Backseat Boyz definitely came into the match as underdogs despite the fact that The Hardyz have not tagged with one another in a few years. This affair was back and forth with each wrestler hitting their finishers. Halfway through the match Jeff Hardy was taken out of commission via a baseball bat to the head courtesy of Johnny Kashmere. Matt put up a valiant effort, almost stealing the match with a Twist of Fate but the numbers game was too much as The Backseat Boyz hit the T-Gimmick and advanced to the second round to face the winner of The Heartbreakers and the Briscoe Brothers.

The camera shifts back to an empty locker room where CM Punk is sitting by himself. His main event match with Sabu is next but it seems as if he has something to say first.

CM: You know, a lot has been made about me being straight edge. Some people just think it's a gimmick, some people don't understand, some people just plain don't understand it. To me, it's a lifestyle. I want to do things the right way. My mind and body are my greatest assets and I want to keep them as healthy as possible. But my opponent tonight, Sabu...he doesn't care about his body. People say he is homicidal, suicidal, genocidal...a human highlight reel. I say he is foolish because in five yeas he'll be nothing but a broken shell of a man and I will be dominating the professional wrestling scene and I will be doing it MY WAY! Sabu, you can bring your tables, ladders, chairs and whatever else you can think of. It doesn't matter because tonight I will advance because I AM A WINNER!

Rating: ** 1/4

CM Punk dominated the match from the get go as he seemingly was on a mission to prove his point that he was simply better than Sabu. The tide changed when Sabu managed to get his hands on a chair which lead to a chair assisted ropeflip moonsault the cut CM Punk's mouth open. After that the match degenerated into a back and forth brawl that spilled outside the ring on several occasions. Punk just could not adapt to Sabu's daredevil style and it led to a victory and a spot in the second round for The Human Highlight Reel. He will face the winner of next weeks match between 911 and Kane. After the match Sabu took his time to celebrate in the ring but Punk attacked him from behind and locked in the Anaconda Vice! He finally let go and kneeled over the fallen Sabu and screamed right into his face, "I AM A WINNER!" The show went off the air with Punk walking back up the ramp with a sinister look on his face.

Before I give detailed feedback, my standard first question... booked or unbooked?
suicidalbynaturePosted on 06/13/06 at 18:12:53

It's half and half. I have a general idea on how I want thing to progress but I am not against TNM giving me something whacky every now and then that I can run with. The Heavyweight Title Tournament is almost exclusively booked. The Tag Team Title Tournament is unbooked save for one match on the next card because one of those damn random injuries popped up and I had to do something to explain it.

There is a third title called the Champion's Trophy that will be an exclusively unbooked belt. I'm thinking of some sort of stipulation that if a wrestler holds on to it for an extended period of time he is recognized as the number one contender to the Heavyweight Belt.
