[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 8/1/05

Snabbit888Posted on 06/09/06 at 18:54:06

August kicked off with a bang as GCW was in the Qwest Center in Omaha, Nebraska for Monday Night Explosion! As Summer Sizzler approaches and Brock Lesnar prepares to defend the World Heavyweight Title in the first ever Elimination Chamber match, we still are unsure of who will join Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, and Randy Orton in the match. One half of that mystery would be solved in tonight's main event as we had a 20-man battle royal for that 5th spot! Also on the show, Frankie "The Future" Kazarian defends the Cruiserweight Title against "The Amazing" Red, and Lance Storm takes on Shark Boy! Also, "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero will be the special guest on Palumbo's Pizza Place! All that and a whole lot more!

Match #1
Cruiserweight Title Match
Frankie "The Future" Kazarian (c) vs. "The Amazing" Red
Right off the bat we had a great match lined up as Frankie Kazarian defended the Cruiserweight Title against his former teammate, "The Amazing" Red. These two parted ways in less than amicable terms, and although the fans don't particularly care for either of these two, they care for each other less. Kazarian was hoping to be able to overpower his smaller opponent, but Red is much quicker and never gave Kazarian the chance to exploit the size difference. Red sent Kazarian out to the floor with a backdrop and was looking to dive onto Kazarian, but the Future saw it coming and got out of the way in a hurry. Red redirected himself and stayed in the ring when he saw Kazarian move, but he didn't expect Kazarian to do what he did next, and that is simply walk to the back and get counted out.

Red defeated Frankie Kazarian by countout in 0:03:48.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Frankie Kazarian retained the GCW Cruiserweight Title.)

Rather than risk losing his title tonight, Kazarian took the easy way out and got counted out. Red wins the match, but he doesn't win the championship.

THE FALLEN ANGEL WANTS A MATCH WITH CM PUNK, BUT HE'S GOING TO HAVE SOME OBSTACLES IN THE WAY
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels came out for an interview and he kept it short and sweet, yelling that he wanted a match with CM Punk and he wanted it now. The Prophecy came out to the top of the ramp. Punk told Daniels he was making a mistake by straying from the flock, and that he is going to be sacrificed because of it. Daniels replied by saying he wasn't afraid of death or Hell, because he's been put through one the past few months. Punk said that Daniels would have to prove himself worthy of being in the ring with him by going through the rest of the Prophecy, starting with the bizarre Goldust tonight. Daniels said he doesn't care what kind of obstacles he has to go through, but Punk will be punked out (pun intended).

Match #2
Shark Boy vs. Lance Storm
Before this match began, a video clip was shown from the 6/13/05 edition of Explosion where Shark Boy picked up the biggest win of his career when he upset Lance Storm. Storm is about 100 times more focused and ruthless than he was then though, and with that fire lit under him, he wasn't going to let the same thing happen again. Shark Boy was attacked before the match started and other than some desperation offense, he was completely overwhelmed. Once Storm got the Maple Leaf on, it didn't take long for Sharkie to submit.

Lance Storm made Shark Boy submit to the Maple Leaf in 0:04:32.
Rating: *** 3/4

Storm had won the match, but he felt his point wasn't quite proven yet as he refused to release the Maple Leaf. Shark Boy was screaming in pain as Storm leaned back further and further. Referee Antonio Santangelo was about to reverse the decision, but he didn't get the chance as CHRIS JERICHO was out and kicked Storm hard in the face. Y2J punched away at Storm before the GCW Official Brigade pulled these two apart. This one has gotten extremely personal in a hurry.

PALUMBO'S PIZZA PLACE - SPECIAL GUEST - EDDIE GUERRERO
The ever-insane "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero graced Palumbo's Pizza Place this week, and this one took a turn in a hurry. Eddie continued his verbal assault of Mick Foley that has been going on for weeks now, until he was interrupted by a surprising intense Chuck Palumbo, who defended Foley. Palumbo cited examples of how Foley has nothing to prove to Guerrero and that Foley was a good guy because he was the only one who bought any pizza from him at Super Cade. The Italian Stallion was very angry when he demanded that Guerrero leave his fine establishment. Eddie surprising listened and started to go, only to blindside Palumbo! Eddie used much of the set to assault Palumbo, nailing him with pizza pans and rolling pins. The kicker came though when Latino Heat took a pizza cutter and dug into Palumbo's forehead, causing him to bleed like a stuck pig. Eddie was pulled away by officials, but the Italian Stallion was in bad shape as Guerrero had opened up a large cut. How depraved has this man become?

KID KASH WANTS DREAMER TO GIVE HIM A CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE SHOT, AND DREAMER AGREES... SORT OF
Kid Kash stormed into Tommy Dreamer's office and demanded that he be given the next shot at the Cruiserweight Title, saying he has been treated very unfairly in his time in GCW with everyone ganging up on him. He said he could win the Cruiserweight Title if he was given a one-on-one shot. Dreamer was surprising sympathetic to Kash's concerns, and agreed to give Kash a title shot at Summer Sizzler. Kash was pumped but not so much when Dreamer added he would get that title shot IF he could defeat Petey Williams tonight. If Petey won, Williams would get the title shot instead. Poor Kid Kash.

Match #3
"Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels vs. Goldust (w/ Daffney)
Goldust wasn't a part of the Prophecy when Christopher Daniels was, but at this point Daniels doesn't care who is in the Prophecy as long as they all suffer. Goldust was the first man in the gauntlet CM Punk is making Daniels go through before he'll meet him in the ring, and Daniels looked better than ever. The ring rust was non-existent as he was outclassing the Golden one throughout much of this contest. Daniels' familiarity with the Prophecy aided him to see what Daffney was going to try to do from a mile away. Daffney jumped up on the apron and grabbed the attention of referee JD Sanders like she has so many times before and tried to throw a pair of brass knuckles in over his head. She managed that, but the Fallen Angel saw them and snagged them from the air and blasted Goldust with them, knocking him out cold and allowing him to get an academic 1-2-3.

Christopher Daniels defeated Goldust via pinfall in 0:07:41.
Rating: *** 1/4

Daniels beat the Prophecy at their own game, and it's one down, one to go. Originally Daniels would be scheduled to meet Sean O'Haire next week, but Tommy Dreamer has changed that match and made it Daniels teaming with Booker T to take on Goldust and O'Haire in tag action.

ERIC ANGLE HAS A CHALLENGE FOR TEAM ANGLE
Because of Eric Angle's ankle injury, he was unable to compete in the battle royal tonight, but he was here with a challenge for Team Angle. Eric said that he wants another shot at his brother in the ring, but he knows that since Kurt is going to make him go through as many loops as possible that he has some work to do. Eric continued by saying he's been making phone calls for the last week and has lined up a tag team partner, and he wants a match against the World's Greatest Tag Team for the World Tag Team Titles at Summer Sizzler. This brought out Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin, who found it laughable that a) Eric Angle had any friends that would be willing to help him, or b) that he even deserved a shot at the tag team titles. Haas and Benjamin finally agreed to give Eric the shot... IF he could beat them in a handicap match next week. Eric Angle accepted that match, but one has to think his chances are slim going into a match with the World Tag Team champions by himself, with an ankle injury no less.

MATT HARDY REVEALS THE IDENTITY OF HIS NEW GIRLFRIEND
Matt Hardy was back with that woman who debuted last week and attacked Lita. Hardy said that he realized what he was doing wrong, and that was he was moping over losing "that whore" Lita when he should be getting back out there, and so that's what he did. He introduced us all to his new girlfriend, Mickie James. You can tell just by looking at this girl that she's a little off her rocker, but she seems to have an undying loyalty to Hardy already. Some of her remarks were borderline creepy, but if Matt Hardy is happy, who are we to judge? The interview ended with both vowing revenge on Edge and Lita.

Match #4
Number-One-Contender Match for the Cruiserweight Title
Petey Williams vs. "The Notorious K.I.D." Kid Kash
Kid Kash thinks everyone is against him, and you know, he does have a case there. But what he seems to forget is that everyone is against him because he's a jerk and no one could possibly be friends with this guy. Regardless, he wants a shot at the Cruiserweight Title, and he was going to get it... if he could beat red hot Petey Williams, which has been a difficult task for anybody recently. Current champion Frankie Kazarian must have thought the same thing, figuring that if neither man won this match, he wouldn't have to fight either of them. Petey and Kash had spilled to the outside during this battle which is when Kazarian made his move. Kazarian ran down and made himself obvious to referee Jimmy Appleseed when he slid a chair into the ring. Appleseed reprimanded the Future and set about removing the chair from the ring. While he was doing that, Kazarian clocked both Petey and Kash in the head with the Cruiserweight Title, knocking them both out cold and making this match a double countout.

Number-One-Contenders-Match:
Kid Kash and Petey Williams battled to a double countout in 0:10:33.
Rating: *** 3/4

Frankie Kazarian has sure used the countout to his advantage tonight, using it to retain his title earlier and now causing the number-one-contender match to end in a stalemate. The Future has to think that his future looks good right now.

BROCK LESNAR CONFRONTS CHRIS BENOIT
Brock Lesnar hunted down Chris Benoit backstage and was yelling at the top of his lungs, wanting an explanation for why the Crippler kicked him in the back during the tag team match on the last Explosion. Benoit said that what he does isn't personal anymore - it's all business, and his business at hand is regaining the World Heavyweight Title. "Seeing how you're the champion, Brock, you're the one I gotta beat." Lesnar didn't like this explanation at all, and said that if Benoit wants a chance to take the title so badly, he can have it next week! Lesnar does not appreciate being taken advantage of and he's willing to put his championship on the line to prove that point. What a main event we lined up for next week's Explosion in Lexington, Kentucky!

Match #5
20-man Battle Royal for the 5th spot in the Elimination Chamber
Participants: Booker T, "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero, "The Rated R Superstar" Edge, "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown, CM Punk, Sean O'Haire, Doug Basham, Danny Basham, "Primetime" Elix Skipper, Low-Ki, Steve Bradley, John Bradshaw Layfield, Rhyno, "The Italian Stallion" Chuck Palumbo, Stevie Richards, The Hurricane, "The Teen Phenom" Ken Doane, Matt Hardy, Abyss, Rey Mysterio Jr.
We already know that Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, and Randy Orton are in the Elimination Chamber at Summer Sizzler. This 20-man battle royal would be to determine the 5th man out of 6 total. One man we knew right off the bat it would be was Rhyno. Rhyno made his from an injury a week ago by assaulting Monty Brown backstage, but Brown got some revenge tonight when he immediately tossed him through the middle ropes at the start of the match, threw him into the steps, and nailed him with a chair. Brown threw the Manbeast back in the ring only for Booker T to immediately throw him out of there.

With the prize that was up for grabs, everyone was fighting exceptionally hard which is why it took another 5 minutes for there to be an elimination. The second man gone would be Rey Mysterio Jr., whose bad luck continued. Mysterio is an amazing competitor, but a battle royal doesn't generally lend itself to being 170 pounds. Mysterio flew off the ropes and tried to get CM Punk with a huracanrana, but Punk had the presence of mind to head to the ropes and dump Mysterio to the floor. A disappointing night for Mysterio, but I'm sure he will bounce back. Speaking of bouncing back, after being viciously assaulted by Eddie Guerrero earlier, it was a testament to Chuck Palumbo that he even made it to the battle royal. He had a huge bandage on his forehead from being cut with the pizza cutter, but he was still fighting, trying to get to Guerrero who was conveniently running from him the whole time. Palumbo was then blindsided by a dropkick from Stevie Richards and he was eliminated from the match. Not long after that, the ring started to empty in a hurry as we had a flurry of eliminations. Low-Ki was dumped over the top by Sean O'Haire, but Low-Ki's controversial partner Elix Skipper got revenge for him by taking O'Haire out next. Edge saw Skipper occupied with O'Haire, so the Television champion was trying to be sneaky, but Primetime saw him coming, ducked under a clothesline and sent the Rated R Superstar out of the ring with a clothesline of his own! Skipper didn't have time to rest on his laurels, because not 3 seconds after, Guerrero grabbed the cocky Skipper and dumped him to the outside, leaving us with 13 wrestlers left.

With O'Haire out of the match, CM Punk was on his own out there, so when he and Monty Brown crossed paths, he had no one there to help him. Punk tried in vain to slow Brown down, but the Alpha Male roared loudly as he was fired up, hitting Punk with the Pounce with so much force behind it that it sent the leader of the Prophecy flying over the top rope. With how intense Brown looked, he was establishing himself as the early favorite to win this match. That is, until Rhyno got involved again. After Brown had essentially destroyed everyone in the ring when he got fired up, Rhyno snuck back in the ring and cut off all of his momentum with a huge Gore. I don't care who you are, that's going to slow you down. Brown got up clutching his ribs before the Basham Brothers collectively dumped him to the floor. Doug Basham's night wouldn't go on too much longer though as The Hurricane would take him out of the match. Not long after that, despite the support of his new girlfriend Mickie James, Matt Hardy was eliminated by Danny Basham.

We were down to just 9 now, and we had some big guns in there still with Eddie Guerrero, JBL, Booker T, Steve Bradley, and Abyss (who's tag team partner was still out there as well). Also remaining was Ken Doane, who was doing quite well for himself, and although he hadn't eliminated anybody, with every elimination he was getting more and more cocky. That was until he was spotted being a jackass by JBL, who isn't a big fan of rookies being jackasses and took Doane to school just like he did last week before dumping him out of the ring. On the other side of the ring, Abyss and Steve Bradley had found each other again like they have had a habit of doing in recent weeks. Bradley loves to fight and if you love to fight, there is no one else you'd rather hook up with than Abyss, who knows nothing else but fighting. This fight was no less brutal than their previous battles. The only difference was the result. Abyss got a little overzealous when he went for a big boot, getting his leg draped over the top rope which allowed Bradley to toss the monster to the floor.

Bradley had a hand in the next elimination too as after he saw Abyss down and out on the floor, just for fun Bradley grabbed his trusty baseball bat Mofo from under the ring and nailed Abyss in the back with it. He then went in the ring and hit The Hurricane as well, who happens to be Abyss' tag team partner. The Hurricane was out of it and easy pickings for Eddie Guerrero to send out of the match. Abyss saw Bradley hit his little buddy with Mofo, and the behemoth snapped as he jumped back into the ring and planted Bradley with the Black Hole Slam. While this was happening, Booker T tossed Stevie Richards out, who looked very impressive tonight. As The Hurricane and Abyss went to the back, Eddie Guerrero saw Steve Bradley's unconscious body, shrugged, and threw him out of the ring as well. Just moments later, Booker T clotheslined Danny Basham out of the ring and we were down to the final three.

Booker T, JBL, and Eddie Guerrero were our last three, and they all backed into a corner to size up the situation. After a staredown, Booker jumped at JBL and the two went at it. Eddie sat back and watched, more than happy to see his two opponents beating the crap out of each other. As Booker and JBL were exchanging punches, Guerrero was sitting back laughing at them. Booker and JBL slowly became aware that they were being laughed at and stopped hitting each other. They looked at Guerrero, then back at each other, and then both jumped at Eddie and were double teaming him! They took turns punching Latino Heat, bouncing him back and forth like a pinball. JBL picked Eddie up and dropped him with his fallaway slam, which Booker followed up with the Axe Kick. Booker didn't get a chance to throw Eddie out though as JBL nailed him with the Stock Market Crash! Booker was out of it and JBL eliminated him from the match. Eddie poked JBL in the eyes to regain the advantage and did whatever he could to get JBL out of the ring, but JBL was just too big, overpowering one of Guerrero's elimination attempts and turning it into a power bomb before tossing Latino Heat out of the ring, giving him the win.

Here's feedback from Chaos Reigns and your two last Explosions..

The Elimination Chamber will indeed be very interesting, but I am curious to who the final participant should be. Most of the other top-stars are involved in other feuds. I think you probably will bring in a new star (or bring back a former star.. wasn't Cena in GCW a long time ago?)

Cool way of bringing in Mickie James. Mayhaps we'll see some girl-on-girl action? Wrestling.. duh...

Still falling in love with psycho-Eddie, let's hope Foley shows his face soon.

I still think you're the one that present the shows in the best format around here, it's so clean and easy to read. Spelling mistakes are few and far between as well (except for that one part where Booker started attacking Booker.. hehe), and it shows that you take great pride planning your shows and storylines well ahead.

Too bad about London though.. wonder where this'll leave AJ.
