UW F'N Fury (May 26, 2006)

Fireworks ignite the inside of the arena here in the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia as we set off this party we call Friday Night Fury! Tonight Unlimited! Wrestling is presented to you live courtesy of ABC Sports and tonight's event is one of the most highly anticipated of UW's relatively short history! Tonight, Triple H defends his World championship against the Top Contender Booker T! Whatever respect there is between these two fan favorites has been shattered and lost as they are ready to tear into one another over the ultimate prize: the UW World title! Limited Edition are desperate to regain their titles, and they will get their opportunity tonight, but if they can't dethrone MNM, they will never get another shot against MNM for the gold! North American champion Shelton Benjamin has been hounded by the enigmatic Sean O'Haire for weeks now, and their vendetta has reached a boiling point! Tonight Benjamin will defend his title against O'Haire! Monty Brown and Austin Aries will go toe-to-toe as The Alpha Male continues his feud with Generation Next. Speaking of Gen Next, for reasons unknown to UW staff, Gregory Shane Helms and Alex Shelley have not shown up for tonight's show! They're scheduled to take part in our opening Tag Team Triple Threat match, but with Helms and Shelley gone missing, what wrench will this throw in Aries' plans for tonight? Team Canada was knocked out of action for three week after a strategic strike by Edge and Teddy Hart. They returned the favor two weeks ago, but the war is far from over. Tonight Bobby Roode and Eric Young step into the ring with Edge and Hart! But right now, let's get to the ring for our opening match, which, due to the no-show of Gen Next, will now be a tag team match!

Paul London and Brian Kendrick vs. Major League

These two tag teams have a definite history with one another. The first time they faced off was last month at No Justice, when Siaki and Richards left London and Kendrick beaten in the middle of the ring. Despite losing the match via DQ that night, they had established an identity for themselves, an identity they've yet to build on having lost every match since that time. But they looked focused tonight and threw their opponents off-guard, evading a double flying dropkick before the bell and going right to work. Richards looked excellent as he hit London coming off the ropes with a spinning elbow and hit a legdrop for two. London tried to fight back, but Siaki came in behind the ref's back and they double-teamed Paul before faking the tag back in. Siaki kept his opponent grounded, beating him with forearms and clotheslines. He tried to hit a knee to the gut, but London caught him by surprise with a roll-up for two and a half. Siaki went right back to work though, stomping away at him. Later he went for the Siakilypse NOW, but London evaded and nailed him with an enzuguiri before finally making the hot tag to Brian Kendrick. Brian flew from the top rope and nailed Siaki and an on-coming Steven Richards with a double dropkick! He and London began double-teaming Richards, and Kendrick retained control. He hit some high-risk moves on Richards and almost had him after the Sliced Bread #2, but Siaki broke the pinfall at two and a half! London rushed Siaki and it was bonzo gonzo until the ref ushered London back to his corner. This gave Siaki the chance he needed, as he leveled Kendrick with a superkick to the midsection! With the wind knocked out of him, Brian was easy pickings for a Stevie-T and the subsequent pinfall.

Major League (Sonny Siaki and Steven Richards) defeated Paul London and Brian Kendrick when S. Richards pinned B. Kendrick with the Stevie-T in 9:56.
Rating: *** 3/4

Major League has won their first match, and they looked quite impressive doing so! Siaki and Richards celebrated excessively after the match, and London and Kendrick watched as the went up the ramp. Depending on how you look at it, Major League may have stolen one from London and Kendrick.

UW North American Title:
Shelton Benjamin (c) vs. Sean O'Haire

The tension for this match was perhaps unparalleled on this card, as both men stood toe-to-toe in the center of the ring after the bell rang, daring the other man to take the first shot. O'Haire did, and Shelton blocked it and started hammering away at the challenger, leaping off the ropes and hitting a shoulderblock, but O'Haire just laughed as he stood there. Benjamin tried to kick him, but O'Haire grabbed his foot and Shelton countered with the Dragon Whip! Sean rolled out of the ring to regain his composure, but Shelton kept the heat on by flying over the ropes and nailing him with a tope! The two kept fighting outside the ring until O'Haire reversed a whip into the stairs and Shelton collided with them, knocking the top step off! O'Haire laughed and walked toward the exposed bottom step, grabbing a pair of brass knuckles and slipping them on his hand. Sean O'Haire planted brass knuckles under the ring steps! He walked toward Shelton and with the ref turned, he took a couple shots to the ribs of Shelton Benjamin with those brass knuckles! The North American champion doubled over in pain before O'Haire rolled him back in the ring and dropped the brass knuckles in the corner before the ref could see them. He continued working over the champion's ribs, stretching him and clubbing him in the stomach. O'Haire dropped him across his knee ribs-first and went for the cover, but Benjamin amazingly kicked out at two and a half! Sean eventually was able to set him up for a Seanton Bomb, but Benjamin rolled out of the way! Benjamin climbed the turnbuckle, but was too slow as O'Haire recovered and crotched him, causing him to flip over and fall in the corner. O'Haire stood him up in the corner, grabbed his face and told him to kiss his title goodbye. He went to the opposite corner and ran at him, smashing him with a spear in the corner! Shelton slid down in the corner, in obvious pain, but Sean wasn't done with him just yet. He went to the opposite corner and charged again, but this time, Shelton grabbed the brass knuckles O'Haire had ditched and nailed him square in the jaw with a punch with the knuckles! O'Haire was out cold, and Shelton made the cover: one... two... three! Shelton retains!

Shelton Benjamin pinned Sean O'Haire after hitting him with brass knuckles in 11:31.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Shelton Benjamin retained the UW North American Title.)

Shelton Benjamin took a beating in that match, but he emerged successful as he used Sean O'Haire's own tactics against him. Shelton raised his title belt to celebrate, but from out of nowhere he was blindsided and attacked by Chavo Guerrero! Chavo battered the NA champ before lifting him up and planting him face-first into the title belt with the Gory Bomb! He imitated his uncle Eddie before spitting on Shelton. He helped O'Haire to his feet and handed him the brass knuckles. O'Haire smiled and laughed and started to attack Shelton with the brass knucks, hitting him in the face and ribs with powerful punches! Chavo raised his arm and handed him the NA title belt as Sean raised it in the air. This is one of the most sickening displays ever here in UW. What in the hell has gotten into Chavo Guerrero?!

Team Canada (Roode and Young) vs. "The Rated R Superstar" Edge and "Rated X" Teddy Hart

After months of brewing in this rivalry, Team Canada finally came face-to-face with Edge and Teddy Hart tonight, and it wasn't pretty. Edge and Hart were determined to make this match brutal. Teddy started to set up his camera before the match, but instead ran over to Bobby Roode and tried to smash him in the face with it! Roode ducked, however, and Hart hit the turnbuckle hard. The bell rang and all four men started going at it, with Team Canada getting the upper hand after tossing Edge to the outside. Roode and Young hit Teddy with a slingshot powerbomb, following with Eric hitting a flying elbowdrop for two. Eric continued wearing him down with a dropkick, a suplex, and a chinlock before grabbing him and nailing a German suplex for two and a half. Bobby Roode took over and dominated Hart until he missed a clothesline over the top rope and fell to the arena floor. Edge and Hart went outside and started tossing him into the guardrail. Edge brought him back in and covered him for two. Hart and Edge kept him cornered and double teamed him behind the ref's back, and Roode looked absolutely beaten. Edge nailed him with a Spear and made the cover: one... two... Eric Young made the save! All four brawled at this point and Edge eventually made his way outside with Eric Young and grabbed for a chair. He swung for the fences, but Young ducked and Edge dropped the chair. Edge got the upperhand still, DDTing him on the chair! He jumped to the ring apron and held the chair out for Teddy to throw Bobby Roode into it, but Roode reversed the whip and Hart collided with Edge and the chair smacked him in the skull! Edge fell to the arena floor and Bobby Roode hit Hart with a powerslam! Hart was busted open from the chairshot and Roode continued assaulting his open wound with punches before he tagged in a recently revived Eric Young, who flew from the top rope and nailed Teddy with a flying legdrop! The referee counted the fall: one... two... Edge jumped in the ring, but Bobby Roode clotheslined him down, three!

Team Canada (Bobby Roode and Eric Young) defeated Edge and Teddy Hart when E. Young pinned T. Hart with a flying legdrop in 14:01.
Rating: *** 3/4

Roode and Young celebrated their victory, but it was short-lived as Teddy Hart slowly regained consciousness and smacked Roode in the face wit his X Cam, which was recording at the time! Eric Young tried to take him down, but Edge hit him in the back with a chair! Edge told Teddy to keep filiming, and he hit Eric with a Spear! Petey Williams came running from the back, wielding a hockey stick and Edge and Teddy made their retreat, but the damage had been done. Bobby was busted open, and Young was down on the mat clutching his ribs. This war is far from over...

Planet Jarrett featuring "The Legend Killer" Randy Orton

Jeff Jarrett was already in the ring when we returned and he said that while he should be defending his World Title against Booker T tonight in the main event, he's been relegated to interview duties by Matteus and the UW powers-that-be. He promised that he'd be back on top in time and if Matteus thinks that he can keep Jarrett down by doing this, he's very mistaken. He welcomed a true legend, not Jeff Jarrett level, but legend nontheless. "This Fire Burns" by Killswitch Engage played and out came Randy Orton with a sly smile on his face. Orton said he didn't have much to say, but he wanted a stage where he knew he wouldn't be overlooked. He came with a message for the UW World champion. The crowd popped huge this, but Orton's message was that he promised that by the end of tonight, the champion would agree to give him another shot at the title. Jarrett reminded him that Orton lost to Triple H AND Booker T in the past month, but Orton just repeated that he promised he wold have his title shot guaranteed by the end of the night.

"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. Austin Aries

Since UW came back into existence, Generation Next has been hounding The Alpha Male at every turn in an attempt to show the world that the wrestlers who can work the "X style" are better than powerhouses, and that "meatheads" like Monty Brown will be left in the dust as they continue the evolution of the sport. But at the outset of this match, Austin Aries wasn't proving that point against his nemesis, as Brown handled him and tossed him around the ring like a rag doll. He hit a series of clotheslines that had Aries retreating from the ring and toward backstage, but Monty Brown wouldn't have that as he chased him down and tossed him back in the ring. Without Gen Next there to help him out, Aries looked like he was doomed to succumb to the Pounce, until he finally gained an upper hand by reversing a powerbomb attempt into a massive hurracanrana, which he cradled to get a two count. Brown tried to regain control, but Aries was just too quick for him, kicking his legs out from under him and nailing him with a dropkick to the face. He continued the assault, attacking his ribs and chest with vicious knee shots and backbreaker variations before trying to take him out with a sleeper. It didn't work however, as Brown was able to power out and toss him over the top rope! Aries was woozy outside and the referee started to count him out, when suddenly Alex Shelley came up from behind Brown and nailed him with a chairshot to the head! Gregory Shane Helms slid into the ring and, with Shelley holding a chair to Brown's head, nailed the Shining Wizard with the chair! Gen Next slid out of the ring and Austin Aries finally came back in and picked the unconscious Brown up, planting him with a brainbuster. He climbed the turnbuckles and nailed Brown with the 450 Splash! The ref counted: one... two... Helms held onto Brown's foot, three! Gen Next has stolen the match!

Austin Aries pinned Monty Brown with the 450 Splash in 10:37.
Rating: *** 1/2
[Gregory Shane Helms and Alex Shelley interfered against Monty Brown.]

This was a great match, marred by outside interference on the part of Helms and Shelley. Aries started laughing and high-fiving his teammates before the three of them started attacking Monty Brown. It was all a ploy, Helms and Shelley were here from the start! They may have sank to a new low, but Gregory Shane Helms appears to be safe from the wrath of The Alpha Male for now, as Brown was unable to defeat Gen Next's enforcer, Austin Aries. They continued the assault until the UW Squad pulled them off.

UW World Tag Team Titles:
MNM (c) w/ Melina vs. Limited Edition

Limited Edition won and lost their first World Tag Team title in the span of a single month, and having tasted championship gold it seems they would seemingly do anything to win it back. They've seemingly sold their tag team soul out for the opportunity, because if they don't walk away tonight with the belts tonight they will not be given another shot at the belts as long as MNM are the champs! Nitro and Mercury say they're the future of tag team wrestling and there is no way they will lose the belts tonight or ever, but they definitely looked shaky when Mercury stood toe-to-toe with the Rob Conway as the bell rang and Limited Edition's powerhouse had his way with Joey. He worked over his arm before hitting him with a vicious clothesline which sent him sprawling to the floor. After conferring with Nitro and Melina, he came back in and made a quick tag to Johnny, who was met this time by the technical marvel Nick Dinsmore who continued the domination of MNM until Nitro elbowed him while he tried for a German suplex and started his own assault on Dinsmore. He hit an impressive legdrop followed by a standing moonsault which got two, and then went on the attack for Dinsmore's neck and shoulders, trying to soften him up for the Snapshot. Mercury picked up where his partner left off, hooking a surfboard-style submission, but Dinsmore fought out and Mercury kept on pounding away at his shoulders. MNM was in complete control of the match until a miscue by Melina allowed Nick to make the tag as Mercury tagged out to Nitro. Conway was a house of fire, taking on both members of MNM before he tossed Mercury and powerslammed Nitro for two. He picked him up and gorilla slammed him to the canvas and prepared to go for a flying elbowdrop, but Melina stuck her nose in the match, tripping him up and sending him crashing to the canvas. Nitro slowly made the cover: one.. two... Dinsmore made the save! Mercury reentered the ring, but Dinsmore and him brawled to the outside and Conway went for the Ego Trip, but again Melina came up onto the apron and tried to flaunt her "assets". Conway dropped Mercury, but only to walk over and plant a kiss on Melina! She struggled, but as he let her go, she looked like she just may have enjoyed it! Nitro rushed him from behind, but Conway dodged him and went for the Ego Trip! Mercury came back in and broke it up again, and they double-teamed Conway until Dinsmore interrupted the festivities. All four men brawled in the ring, and the ref threatened to call for the bell, but Dinsmore pleaded with him not to throw out the match, as that would be their last opportunity at MNM! With Nick distracted, MNM hit the Snapshot on a weakened Conway and with Mercury making the cover, Nitro took out Dinsmore! The ref counted: one... two... three! MNM retains!

MNM (Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro) defeated Limited Edition (Nick Dinsmore and Rob Conway) when Mercury pinned R. Conway after the Snapshot in 14:05.
Rating: *** 1/2
(MNM retained the UW World Tag Team Titles.)

MNM rushed out of the ring and clutched their tag team belts as Melina helped them up and they made their way to the back, celebrating the entire way! Limited Edition were shocked and devastated at the loss, as Dinsmore kicked the ropes and stared down MNM. Nitro and Mercury didn't look threatened in the least, however, as they know that as long as they hold those belts they don't have to worry about Limited Edition! What a tragedy!

UW World Title:
"The Game" Triple H (c) vs. Booker T

This is your main event for the evening, folks! Booker T came to the ring focused and looking more ready and fit than perhaps he's ever been in his wrestling career! This, of course, was followed by the UW World champion Triple H and Hunter had a look of intensity on his face. Both men knew they would be in for a tremendous fight tonight, but only one of them could walk out of the ring as World champion. Could Triple H continue his streak of dominance in pro wrestling, or would this be the night that Booker T finally gained that elusive sixth world championship? Booker took control early, blocking a punch and hitting his own, backing Hunter into a corner and chopping away at the champ. After hitting a kick to the face when Trips was charging the corner, he hit Hunter with a bulldog out of nowhere and covered for one and a helf. Booker kept the pressure on with wear-down holds, but it was too early in the match for this to put Triple H away, as he powered out and started on the attack. After hitting various knees and kneedrops, he went for a spinebuster, but Booker reversed it into a Lou Thesz Press for two and a half! Booker certainly came with his A game tonight, but Hunter quickly elbowed him back to the canvas and started torquing on his neck. He followed with numerous neckbreakers, but when he tried another one, Booker turned it around and hooked him in a small package for two! Hunter tried to take control again, but Book was prepared and hit a spinebuster of his own! The crowd started getting behind Booker at this point, and he almost hit the Scissor Kick, but Trips ducked and came off the ropes with a knee. Booker dodged this and hit the Book End! He made the cover: one... two...

KICKOUT! Booker couldn't believe it! He went up top and hit a flying legdrop but only got two and a half. You could see the growing desperation on the face of Booker, as he went to the outside and grabbed a chair! He brought it into the ring and Triple H was unable to defend himself. The crowd and ref pleaded with Booker not to do it, and he finally agreed and tossed the chair outside. But Triple H just hit a low blow on him as he was distracted! Booker doubled over in pain and this time it was Hunter who was looking to finish him off. He finally hit the spinebuster and got a two count. When he finally went or the Pedigree, Booker powered out of it and almost hit the Scissor Kick, but Hunter booted him in the midsection in midair and hit the Pedigree! The ref counted: one... two...

...thr-KICKOUT! He kicked out of the Pedigree! Triple H was in absolute shock and wondered what it would take to put the challenger away! He slid outside and reached under the ring. He slowly pulled out his sledgehammer! He slid back into the ring and was prepared to strike, but he too had second thoughts, lowering the hammer. But he apparently had third thoughts as he started to swing it at Book, but was stopped by the ref! Booker took this chance to hit a low blow of his own! With Hunter down, Booker scaled to the top rope and looked to hit the Harlem Hangover! We haven't seen him do that in years! He went up top, but out of nowhere, Randy Orton knocked him off the top rope and to the arena floor! Booker went headfirst into the guardrail and was knocked out. The ref never saw Orton and with Triple H still down, he counted out Booker T.

Triple H defeated Booker T by countout in 16:51.
Rating: ** 1/2
(Triple H retained the UW World Title.)

What a disgrace! Randy Orton ruined what could have been a classic match and Booker T's golden opportunity! He entered the ring and started battering Triple H, kicking him and spitting on him. He called for the mic and started taunting him, saying that he's still the champion and that means the target's still on his back. Orton said he made a promise earlier, and he's here to make good on it.  He asked an unconscious Triple H if the date July 11, 2005 has any relevance to him. Of course it did, that's the day a masked man tried to end his career by hitting him in the knee with a steel pipe, putting him in rehab for months and costing him "his" precious world title. He punched Triple H again and pulled something from his boot slowly... a steel pipe! He smacked Triple H in the head with it and then clubbed him again! Triple H was bleeding horribly as Orton grabbed him by the hair and lifted him up to his face. He told Triple H in plain words: "I'm the masked man, Hunter... and I want that belt." He grabbed the UW World title and leveled the fallen champion with it! Randy Orton posed with the blood-stained title belt as the show drew to a close...

I just knew Siaki and Richards would take home the win. Kendrick and London are the perfect jobber team.. (and the champs, according to WWE). What happened with Gen Next? Both cannot have no-showed? Ah.. the bonzo-gonzo moment.. I feel like I must use it as well one of these days, unless you're gonna sue me for copyright infringment?

Shelton retains? Well, there goes my perfect prediction score. When I think about it, don't know if O'Haire could have done more to elevate the belt.

Eric Young gets the pinfall? Splendid.. I really like how you're devaluating Edge to the midcard.. I don't like main eventer Edge. Young is awesome, glad to see him get the win. And brilliant match description.

Aries wins! Great for me who loves Aries and hates Brown.. not so great for my predictions. Gen Next really fooled everyone there, didn't they.. sacrificing their own match to help Aries. Guess Helms won't have to face Monty now.

Melina is such a slut! And poor Eugene.. I mean Nick Dinsmore.. thanks to WWE, I can never even picture a web-circuit with him in it without getting images of Eugene flailing away, trying to remove his jacket. The right team won though, MNM is (was?) awesome.

Nice main event as well, even though I abhor countout finishes. You kept both men strong by letting them kick out of each other's finishers, but still managed to have the (presumably) new top contender get the final laugh. I would imagine Booker is still in the picture somehow, as he didn't lose fair and square. Care to elaborate a little on the masked man thing? I take it that's from back before UW became a TNM messageboard circuit?

I enjoyed your show Matteus, keep it going!

Here's a link to the first appearance of the aforementioned masked man:

http://www.geocities.com/colmatteus/05_0711.html

This was the last card before the hiatus, and the attack put Triple H on the shelf due to surgery and rehab for the vast majority of UW's time off. Basically, Triple H has promised a few times that he'll find out who the masked man was and eliminate him for what he tried to do to him and his career. The plot will thicken as we go along, I do promise that ;)

Good match to start, and despite how much I like London/Kendrick, it was a match Major League HAD to win.  London/Kendrick didn't look bad in defeat though, so good job.

Shelton retains when O'Haire's knuckles work against him, and Chavo and O'Haire form an alliance which is absolutely awesome since they're both nuts.  Another well booked match.

Did not expect Team Canada to pick up the win, but nice to see Edge/Hart get their heat back. Team Canada needed something as they have essentially been the bitch of Edge and Hart for the duration of this feud.

Very interesting segment with Orton... I wonder what he means by guaranteed... hrm...

I seriously thought Brown would beat Aries to set up the Brown/Helms match, but this postpones it a little more and leaves you wanting.  Another solid booking choice.  One I wouldn't have done either, which pisses me off. :)

MNM rules way too much for Limited Edition to take the gold from them.  I like the angle (which is why I did it myself) but the trick is now figuring out things for Conway and Dinsmore to do in the mean time, because if they just get jobbed out, who cares that they can't get a title shot?

Though the countout ending is a bit crappy, the post-match angle more than makes up for it.  Looking forward to the HHH/Orton stuff, with hopefully more Booker mixed in since Orton cost him the title.
