[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 7/11/05

Snabbit888Posted on 05/14/06 at 20:37:54

GCW was invading the United Spirits Arena in Lubbock, Texas as we are 13 days away from Chaos Reigns! This edition of Monday Night Explosion promised to be a good one as we had a lot of great matches scheduled. Two titles would be on the line as Matt Hardy defends the Television Title against Ken Doane, and Monty Brown defends the North American Title against "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero. Also, we had tag team action as Booker T and Eric Angle meet Kurt Angle and Goldust. And in our main event, at special request of the World Heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar will meet both the number-one-contender Randy Orton AND his father Bob Orton Jr. in a handicap match!

KURT ANGLE'S TAUNTING OF ERIC ANGLE CONTINUES
"Medal" kicked off Explosion and out came Kurt Angle, all of his medals draped around his neck. Kurt's railings continued for yet another week on his brother, once again hitting the points about all the successes he has had that his brother Eric has not. When Kurt brought up remarks of their parents not loving Eric as much as him, the elder brother had enough as he came to the ring, and let's just say he wasn't there to talk. Kurt tried to back off but Eric went right after him, peppering him with right hands. Eric Angle went for the Angle Slam, but Kurt reversed it and went for a lariat, but Eric ducked it and took urt down with a German suplex. Eric looked to put his brother in the Ankle Lock, but STEVE BRADLEY, CHARLIE HAAS, and SHELTON BENJAMIN ran down and attacked him. Eric couldn't defend himself against the odds, and the GCW Official Brigade was unable to prevent Kurt from Pillmanizing Eric's ankle. The officals finally got Team Angle out of the ring, but it was a little too late for Eric who was in a tremendous amount of pain. There was severe damage done to the ankle, and Eric Angle has not been cleared to wrestle in tonight's match, leaving Booker T by himself against Kurt Angle and Goldust.

Match #1
North American Title Match
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (c) vs. "Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero
We kicked off the show with our first of two title matches, with the man who has held the North American Title for nearly 9 months now, Monty Brown, putting the title up for grabs against our resident nutjob, Eddie Guerrero. A great way to kick off the wrestling this evening. Guerrero motto is lie, cheat, and steal, and he did as much of all three that he could in an effort to take home his first championship gold in Global Championship Wrestling. The Alpha Male has a great equalizer for underhanded tactics though, and that is the fact that he is one of the, if not the strongest man in GCW. That, and he is quick as a cat, which makes for a dangerous combination. Eddie took Brown to the limit , but he couldn't find the right move that would put down his much larger foe for the pinfall. Brown would finally be able to hit the Pounce and retain his title in a hotly contested match.

Monty Brown pinned Eddie Guerrero with the Pounce in 0:12:29.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Monty Brown retained the GCW North American Title.)

The Alpha Male's long title reigns continues for another week as he took on the challenge of a game Eddie Guerrero and pulled through. After the match, Guerrero grabbed the mic and gave a brief interview, blaming this loss on Mick Foley as well. Now if Eddie wants to be angry at Foley, whatever, but listening to him claim that Foley cost him this contest was enough to prove how insane Latino Heat is.

Match #2
CM Punk (w/ Daffney) vs. Stevie Richards
Monty Brown's opponent for Chaos Reigns, CM Punk, was in action next as he took on the hapless Stevie Richards (but hey, he tries really hard). Punk was in no mood to play around with Richards, giving the dancing fool no chance to even get out of the blocks. Punk did hit the Pepsi Plunge on Richards, but he wasn't done yet as he locked on a vicious submission hold which he is calling the Anaconda Vice. Richards tapped out in no time at all.

CM Punk made Stevie Richards submit to the Anaconda Vice in 0:01:46.
Rating: ** 1/4

Punk was looking to make an example out of Richards, calling out Sean O'Haire to help him. O'Haire pulled out a table from under the ring and set it up inside the ring while Daffney handed Punk a bottle of lighter fluid and matches. The table was set ablaze as Punk was looking to put Richards through the table with a suplex, but MONTY BROWN came out and broke it up by attacking O'Haire. Punk and Daffney got out of the ring in a hurry, but O'Haire was unable to get away as Brown dropped him with a back suplex. Brown saw the table still on fire, and then looked out to the crowd who cheered him into putting O'Haire through it with a power bomb. Brown was begging for Punk to come in the ring to help his man, but the leader of the Prophecy thought better of it. This is the second time someone has went through a fire table. The third time it is going to happen is at Chaos Reigns, but will it be Monty Brown or CM Punk?

JBL ASKS FOR A FAVOR FROM KURT ANGLE
John Bradshaw Layfield was brave to go into the locker room of Team Angle, especially with the odds being against him if Angle hadn't forgotten what went down between the two of them last week. Kurt Angle was wary, but he was interested when JBL said that he wanted to make a deal with him. JBL said that Rhyno is going to be out of commission for some time and thus, he doesn't have a partner for Chaos Reigns against Abyss and The Hurricane. JBL wanted Steve Bradley to be his partner. Angle asked him what was in it for him, and JBL offered him an unconditional favor to be cashed in on at any time, citing how there's a good chance that Abyss would kill him if he didn't have a good partner. Angle agreed after making JBL beg a little, and Bradley will now be taking Rhyno's place at the pay-per-view.

Match #3
Television Title Match
On Commentary: Edge & Lita
Matt Hardy (c) vs. "The Teen Phenom" Ken Doane
Ken Doane has been politicking to get himself what he considers "better competition" and he got that in a big way as he challenged Matt Hardy for the Television Title. This was put up or shut up time for the Teen Phenom, and he had no excuses now. He was getting a shot at gold, and it's hard to say if he actually wanted Edge and Lita on commentary, but their presence in the announce position was definitely going to take its toll on Matt Hardy. Doane is young, cocky, and brash, but he has and immense upside and a boatload of natural talent, and he used that all against Hardy. Hardy has a lot of tricks up his sleeves still though, and he didn't become the TV champion by some fluke. Edge and Lita were running Hardy down throughout the match and distracting him when they could. Doane looked like he could have put Hardy away a couple of times, but he made very arrogant covers and the champ was able to slip a shoulder up each time. Doane took a lot of time before he picked Hardy up in setup for a move, but the more experienced Hardy reversed it into a small package and got the 3 count!

Matt Hardy pinned Ken Doane after a small package in 0:06:22.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Matt Hardy retained the GCW Television Title.)

Doane couldn't believe that he got beat in such a way, but he left without incident (unless having the most sour looking face imaginable as an incident). Edge too left without a major incident, merely standing up and giving Matt Hardy a half-hearted round of applause and then making out with Lita at the top of the ramp for Hardy to see. Look out for this match at Chaos Reigns... I have a feeling it's going to be a brutal one.

AJ STYLES AND PAUL LONDON WANT ONE MORE CHANCE, AND BOOKER T DOESN'T WANT A PARTNER
AJ Styles and Paul London were obviously upset with the way that London lost his match against Shelton Benjamin, and they came into the office of Tommy Dreamer to plead their case. Dreamer was on their side and made the executive decision to give the exciting team one more chance as Styles would take on Charlie Haas later tonight with the same rules as last week applying here. Styles and London thanked Dreamer looking re-energized. After they left, Booker T soon entered as Dreamer had requested to see him. Dreamer told Booker and Sharmell that it looked like Eric Angle wouldn't be able to make the match because of his injured ankle and that he was welcome to find another partner if he want. Booker thanked him but said he didn't need a partner because he was going to kick the asses of both Goldust and Kurt Angle. Dreamer told Booker he had more guts than brains but respected his decision to go at it in a handicap match. Sharmell, however, didn't seem qutie as forgiving as she gave her husband a long concerned look.

Match #4
Shark Boy vs. Steve Bradley
Not a good night to be Shark Boy. Steve Bradley is wanting to show JBL that he is worth the investment because Kurt Angle wants to be able to keep that favor from JBL in his pocket. Bradley's ruthless nature was right on the surface as he absolutely decimated the ocean native, winning the match in an easy fashion with a devastating backbreaker.

Steve Bradley pinned Shark Boy after a backbreaker in 0:02:33.
Rating: ***

After the match, JBL himself ran out with a big smile on his face, obviously happy with his new partner. JBL raised Bradley's arm in victory as we cut to commercial.

KID KASH BITES OFF MORE THAN HE CAN CHEW
"The Notorious K.I.D." Kid Kash was standing in the ring when we came back from commercial, and he was pissed (surprise, surprise). Kash was complaining about how since he's come to GCW, everyone has been against him. Kash even showed a a video clip from Super Cade where all five men in the ring took turns nailing him with high impact moves to eliminate him from the match. "I am sick and tired of getting treated like a punk because I'm a good ol' boy from the south!" Whether that is the case or not, it didn't stop Kash from daring anybody to come down to the ring to meet him in a match. Kash was ready to fight when THE HURRICANE came out, but he soon reconsidered when The Hurricane let him know that he wasn't there to wrestle him, but rather ABYSS was. When Kash saw the massive Abyss walk to the ring, he jumped out of the ring and ran away through the crowd (I thought Justin Credible was Chicken Boy...). Abyss was still going to have a match though as STEVE BRADLEY ran back out and jumped Abyss from behind. Referee Petey Pluck ran in, called for the bell, and we had an impromptu match!

Match #5
Abyss (w/ The Hurricane) vs. Steve Bradley
Say what you want about Steve Bradley - he is a tough sonofabitch and not afraid of anything, which was evident in the fact that he was more than anxious to wrestle the monster Abyss after just finishing wrestle a match. This was Kid Kash's open challenge, but he's somewhere near the Oklahoma border at this point. There wasn't much to this wrestling match - nothing more than two intense warriors trying to beat the ever-living crap out of each other. Bradley didn't exactly expend a lot of energy earlier in his previous match, but it's hard enough to beat Abyss when you're fully rested. The match didn't last long, but it was brutal when it was happening, but Abyss caught Bradley by surprise with the Black Hole Slam and got the three count.

Abyss pinned Steve Bradley with the Black Hole Slam in 0:03:14.
Rating: *** 1/4

Abyss got the win, but The Hurricane was unable to warn him about JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD being in the ring. JBL destroyed Abyss with the Stock Market Crash, almost knocking his mask right off of him. The Hurricane jumped to the top rope and flew at JBL with a crossbody, but JBL caught him and dumped him with the Last Call. JBL stood over both Abyss and The Hurricane with his arm raised in the air.

Match #6
If Styles wins, he and Paul London get World Tag Team Title shot at Chaos Reigns
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Charlie Haas (World Tag Team champion)
After the less-than-ethic way in which Shelton Benjamin beat Paul London a week ago, Commissioner Tommy Dreamer gave London and AJ Styles one more chance to earn the tag title shot many feel they don't need to earn anyway as Styles took on Charlie Haas. Respective partners were once again barred from ring side. This was a great pure wrestling match that remained clean throughout most of the match. Haas was obviously not happy that the World's Greatest Tag Team had to fend off a title shot again this week, but he had something to prove as he wanted to beat Styles cleaning in the middle of the ring. The problem was, Styles wasn't ready to be beaten. When Haas started to realize that he might not be able to beat Styles cleanly this week, he went for the same underhanded kick to the groin that Benjamin used to beat London last week. The Phenomenal One was ready for it though, catching his leg and then knocking Haas loopy with an enziguiri. While Haas was still dazed, Styles was able to hit the Styles Clash and get the 1-2-3!

AJ Styles pinned Charlie Haas with the Styles Clash in 0:09:03.
Rating: ****

With this win, we will now see the World Tag Team Titles defended at Chaos Reigns when the World's Greatest Tag Team defends against AJ Styles and Paul London. The WGTT have dominated the tag team division since day one in GCW, but Styles and London are one of the most exciting teams we've seen in a long time. Plus, Styles and London already have one victory over the champs. Will history be repeated at the pay-per-view?

PALUMBO'S PIZZA PLACE - SPECIAL GUEST - "Y2J" CHRIS JERICHO
One week ago, Lance Storm told the world that he wanted his final opponent before retiring to be Chris Jericho, the man he came into the business with and wrestled his very first match against. The Ayatollah of Rock'n'Rollah was the guest on Palumbo's Pizza Place this week, and he was there to answer the challenge. Jericho made fun of Palumbo for a bit before calling Storm himself out to the ring. Jericho tried to convince Storm not to retire at all, saying he still has a lot of good years left in him. Storm appreciated the sentiment, but said his decision has been made and he will be retiring after Chaos Reigns. Jericho retorted by saying he would be honored to be Storm's last opponent then, and promised Storm that he would have his best match ever to send him out in the way he deserves. Jericho and Storm shook hands and hugged, and the match is set!

Match #7
Booker T (w/ Sharmell) vs. Kurt Angle/Goldust
Booker T had the option to either find another partner or wrestle this match by himself, and he may have possibly chosen poorly when he chose the latter. We understand that he wants to get his hands on Goldust, but putting himself in a handicap match against Goldust AND Kurt Angle after Eric Angle was injured earlier tonight might just be career suicide. Booker held his own, but although Goldust and Angle didn't exactly get along that well, they made frequent enough tags that it wore on Booker enough that it looked like he was not only going to lose the match, but possibly suffer an injury. Angle got Booker in the Ankle Lock, but to everyone's surprise, out came ERIC ANGLE with a severe limp. He didn't come alone though as he had a steel chair, which he immediately used on the spine of his brother, causing the disqualification.

Handicap-Match: Kurt Angle and Goldust defeated Booker T when K. Angle defeated Booker by disqualification in 0:07:18.
Rating: ** 1/4

Goldust ran in the ring, but he caught a steel chair in the head as well. Eric brought the chair crashing down on his brother 3 more times before the GCW Official Brigade could pull him away. Eric was still in a lot of pain, but Kurt wasn't doing too much better at this point. It will be interesting to see whether these two will be ready to go for Chaos Reigns, and if they are, how effective they will be.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
Brock Lesnar (World Heavyweight champion) vs. Randy Orton/"Cowboy" Bob Orton Jr.
Brock Lesnar has had it with both Randy Orton and his dad Bob Orton Jr., but he could have been making a huge mistake when he agreed to meet them both in a handicap match this close to having to defend the World Heavyweight Title against Randy Orton at Chaos Reigns. Cowboy Bob didn't wrestle a lot of this match, because let's face it - at his age he's not going to be able to keep up with the World champion as evidenced by last week's match. However, Cowboy Bob is adept at causing distractions, and his presence in the match did allow Randy Orton to get a great deal of offense on the Monster From Minnesota. Randy's M.O. was to hit the R.K.O., but Lesnar was able to get out of several attempts at it throughout the match. The Ortons got a bit too cocky in the match when Randy tagged in his father, but Lesnar got back on the offensive with a huge lariat on Cowboy Bob. As Lesnar was dismantling Cowboy Bob, Randy orton made no serious attempts at helping his father as Lesnar kept spotting him before he'd have a chance. Lesnar put this match away when he hit tCowboy Bob with the F-5 as Randy did nothing to make the save.

Handicap-Match:
Brock Lesnar defeated Bob Orton Jr. and Randy Orton when Lesnar pinned Orton Jr. with the F-5 in 0:10:03.
Rating: ** 3/4

The show went off the air with Lesnar inviting Randy Orton into the ring, but the number-one-contender wanting none of it. Orton is going to have to show a bit more gumption if he is going to take the title at Chaos Reigns.

Speaking of Chaos Reigns, the next pay-per-view spectacular is only 13 days away, coming to us live from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado on July 24th! The card is now COMPLETE, and looks to be a fantastic one!

I dont comment much on these boards, but i thought I would make an exception here. I have been around the tnm world a lot, and have read a lot of peoples cards..but Ryan I have to say of all the ones I have read you are probably my favorite, you always do such a good job handling multiple storylines and keeping everything interesting. Keep it up you do a great job.
Snabbit888Posted on 05/15/06 at 04:57:11

Thanks Garr.  Good to see you're still alive. :)
rey619Posted on 05/15/06 at 12:37:23

Pillmanizing? Not sure I get the reference.. (other than the fact that it probably refers to Brian Pillmann).

Eric injured? Hmm.. maybe JBL can take his place?

Hmm.. hopefully Eddie will turn face (and sane) before his inevitable demise.

Damn.. JBL beg forgiveness and is now working with the former champ.. I suck at predictions :P
JBL is soon going to be in debt to most of the heel part of the GCW roster.. one day he'll need to pay it back though.

Good to see Doane get a shot at the TV-title, but it is way too soon for him to get the strap. Good call giving Hardy the win through a small package, Doane's inexperience shines through.

Kid Kash's open challenge ends up in.. Bradely vs Abyss... huh... and JBL gets the last laugh.. for tonight, at least.

I was correct about London and Styles getting a chance to win the tag-straps though.. I don't always suck at predictions ;)

Brock finally gets one back at the Ortons, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how things unfold at Chaos Reigns. You really know how to finalize your cards well in advance, and not throw together something at the last minute... *cough* Great American Thrash.. Bash *cough*

And now I really have to get back to work after going through all these GCW shows.
Snabbit888Posted on 05/15/06 at 18:39:34

Pillmanizing refers to wrapping a chair around someone's ankle and then stomping on the chair to crush the ankle. Austin did it to Pillman in the early days of the Austin vs. Hart Foundation feud.
