[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 6/20/05

Snabbit888Posted on 05/06/06 at 18:02:05

Super Cade II is in the books and the complexion of Global Championship Wrestling has changed! We have a new World Heavyweight champion in Brock Lesnar, and he starts the Era of the Beast as we stayed put at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California for one more night for Monday Night Explosion! We will hear from Lesnar tonight in his first interview as the World champion. Also scheduled for tonight, three title matches as Rey Mysterio Jr. defends his newly won Cruiserweight Title against Kid Kash, Matt Hardy defends the Television Title against former champion CM Punk, and in a rematch from last night, the World's Greatest Tag Team defends the World Tag Team Titles against Booker T and Goldust! That, and we will hear from the former World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle! What a night this should be!

WORDS FROM THE NEW CHAMP
We kicked off the show in a big way with the brand new World Heavyweight champion BROCK LESNAR! Lesnar looked confident as he spoke, saying that last night he got his revenge that he had been waiting for for months. Lesnar put over Kurt Angle as being a tough son of a bitch, but said that it was only a matter of time before he became champion, and that the Monster From Minnesota will be holding the title for a long time. This brought out RANDY ORTON with his father Bob Jr., and he apparently too exception to these comments. Orton went on by saying that Hell in a Cell was the real main event people wanted to see last night, and that he is the hottest commodity in wrestling today. Orton said that Lesnar has had 24 hours to think about Orton's challenge, and he wanted an answer. Lesnar backs down for no man, and told Orton that he would fight him right now in fact. Randy Orton immediately backed off, saying he was still hurt from Hell in a Cell and needed time to heal up. Orton suggested next month's pay-per-view Chaos Reigns, and Lesnar accepted. Not 24 hours into his first reign and Lesnar is already accepting big time challengers. What a match this should be!

Match #1
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles/Paul London vs. Frankie "The Future" Kazarian/"The Amazing" Red
Frankie Kazarian and Red showed some major chinks in the armor last night, when Red ultimately led to Kazarian's elimination from Cruiserweight Chaos and thus losing of the Cruiserweight Title. They were a team here, but their teaming skills were anything but cohesive. AJ Styles and Paul London, however, are developing into a fantastic team. It's amazing to think a few months ago they were bitter enemies. After what turned out to be a great match, the ending came when Kazarian had enough of trying to be civil, running in and hitting his own partner with the Wave of the Future while referee Petey Pluck tried to get Styles out of the ring after an exchange. London saw what happened, but just shrugged his shoulders as he went to the top and hit the London Calling for the 3 count.

Paul London and AJ Styles defeated Frankie Kazarian and Red when London pinned Red with the London Calling in 0:12:15.
Rating: ****

It looks like the alliance between Kazarian and Red is officially over. It has been announced that next week, Kazarian and Red will meet in singles action with the winner receiving a Cruiserweight Title shot at Chaos Reigns.

RHYNO WANTS HIS MONEY, BUT JBL HAS ANOTHER DEAL
Rhyno confronted John Bradshaw Layfield backstage, saying that he wanted the money for the work he did. JBL said he wasn't going to pay him a dime because he hadn't got the job done; Abyss was still able to go at Super Cade. When the Manbeast got in JBL's face over this, JBL pulled Lamont in front of him and bought himself enough time to offer Rhyno double the money if he took on one more job. Rhyno's anger subsided enough for JBL to say that he talked to Commissioner Tommy Dreamer earlier and he had gotten a tag team match signed for Chaos Reigns against The Hurricane and Abyss. JBL said he needed a partner, and if Rhyno would be his partner and they won, he would pay him double what he was going to be paid. Rhyno's mood went from wanting to rip JBL's head off to a big smile being on his face in no time at all before agreeing to be JBL's partner. As Rhyno left, JBL let out a big sigh of relief.

Match #2
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero vs. Mac Johnson (unsigned)
I'm sure Mac Johnson was excited to get a chance to wrestle a big star on TV, but he certainly paid the price for it as Eddie Guerrero just killed him. Johnson didn't get a single punch in and this match ended mercifully in one minute exactly when Eddie hit the Frog Splash.

Eddie Guerrero pinned Mac Johnson with the Frog Splash in 0:01:00.
Rating: * 3/4

Eddie Guerrero is not happy with losing to Shawn Michaels and word around the locker room says that he is blaming Mick Foley for the loss. Now anyone who watched last night would know that is not the case and Eddie attacked Foley, but Eddie has a couple of screws loose up top and is not all there. Still, after watching this match, he is damn impressive.

Match #3
Non-Title Match
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (North American champion) vs. Sean O'Haire (w/ Daffney)
Monty Brown was in a battle with the leader of the Prophecy CM Punk last night, getting put through a flaming table after the match. Brown suffered some minor burns, but he was ready to go for this match against Punk's underling Sean O'Haire. With Jeff Hardy now gone from GCW, the Prophecy is down a man, but CM Punk always has a plan, and they put that plan into motion here. O'Haire's job wasn't to win this match, but to lure the Alpha Male to the back, which he did via a double countout and a brawl.

Monty Brown and Sean O'Haire battled to a double countout in 0:02:48.
Rating: ** 3/4

Brown and O'Haire fought to the back where Punk jumped Brown and with an ether soaked rag, caused the North American champion to pass out. Punk then had O'Haire grab a gas can and cover Brown with it as Punk lit a match. Punk was going to light Brown on fire! Luckily before this atrocity could go down, MATT HARDY ran in with a chair, belting O'Haire in the back with it. Hardy took a swing at Punk but Punk got out of there and made a hasty retreat. Punk has always been a sick man, but this is starting to go too far.

BOOKER T WANTS ANSWERS FROM GOLDUST
Booker T found Goldust backstage, and he was PISSED. Sharmell was trying to calm her husband down, but Booker was raging trying to get answers for Goldust as to why he walked out on him last night. Goldust was apologetic, saying that he was PMS'ing and upset over Booker not saving him a few weeks prior. Goldust apologized over and over, saying that it was a lapse in judgment and that he was going to make things right tonight by helping them win the World Tag Team Titles from the World's Greatest Tag Team. Booker wasn't fully buying it, but he didn't have a choice but to trust his eccentric partner.

Match #4
World Tag Team Title Match
The World's Greatest Tag Team (c) vs. Booker T/Goldust (w/ Sharmell)
Though Booker T was wary of his partner, Goldust seemed to be sincere about what he said based on the way he was wrestling. Goldust was empassioned in his wrestling, willing to use great teamwork with Booker with hopes of becoming a World Tag Team champion. There is no better team in the world though than Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjajin, and what resulted was a great title match on free television going for over 20 minutes. After lots of back and forth action, late in the match Booker T had been isolated. Booker took quite a beating before he was able to buy time against Charlie Haas by hitting a spinebuster. Haas and Benjamin had been working over Booker's left arm and he was in a bad way, but his adrenaline got the better of him and he didn't make the tag even though Goldust was begging him to. Booker tried to win the match himself, but after a flurry on Haas and Benjamin, he went for a clothesline but was taken down by Benjamin who countered with a Fujiwara armbar. Goldust tried to get in for the save, but Haas cut him off and sent him to the floor. Booker tried to hold on, but the pain became too intense as he was unable to respond to Jimmy Appleseed.

The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) defeated Booker T and Goldust when S. Benjamin defeated Booker when Booker passed out in a Fujiwara armbar in 0:20:52.
Rating: *** 3/4
(The World's Greatest Tag Team retained the GCW World Tag Team Titles.)

Haas and Benjamin kept attacking Booker, but Goldust grabbed a chair from ringside and chased the WGTT away. Booker T slowly got back to his feet, clutching his arm. Goldust looked upset as Booker apologized, but he finally accepted it. Booker T and Sharmell turned their backs to leave the ring, which is when Goldust DESTROYED Booker with the chair. Goldust threw the chair down in disgust and left amidst a wave of boos as Sharmell checked on her husband. That is the second alliance we've seen fall apart tonight.

Match #5
Abyss vs. Stevie Richards
Well thanks for coming, Stevie Richards. He has had a rough time so far in GCW, and that wasn't going to change tonight. Abyss absolutely obliterates the Dancin' Fool, finishing him off in short order with the Black Hole Slam.

Abyss pinned Stevie Richards with the Black Hole Slam in 0:03:10.
Rating: ** 3/4

Abyss showed exactly what he is made of by overcoming his injuries to beat JBL last night. He will look to do it again in a tag team match with his partner The Hurricane against JBL and Rhyno at Chaos Reigns.

PALUMBO'S PIZZA PLACE - SPECIAL GUEST - KEN DOANE
Ken Doane was the guest on Chuck Palumbo's goofy Italian show this week, and to say he was a gracious guest would be lying. We haven't actually got to hear the Teen Phenom speak too much since his debut, but word has it that he's been developing a bit of a cocky attitude backstage due to his early success, most notably his upset victory over Kurt Angle. Now nobody particularly likes Palumbo or enjoys his company, but Doane was taking his insulting of the Italian Stallion a little too far, to the point that when Palumbo challenged Doane to a match right then and there, he actually got some crowd support (albeit not a lot - he's still Chuck Palumbo). Doane smirked cockily before accepting Palumbo's challenge.

Match #6
"The Teen Phenom" Ken Doane vs. "The Italian Stallion" Chuck Palumbo
Doane didn't seem at all worried about Palumbo as this match started, almost laughing because he felt Palumbo wasn't in his league. He got a big wake up call after Palumbo jacked him in the jaw a couple of times. Palumbo started to string some moves together as Doane was looking a bit worried, but when he was able to catch the Italian Stallion with a kneelift and a lariat, that arrogant smirk came back across his face. After hitting a few more big moves, Doane hit the Doane-nation and using only one finger, pinned Palumbo.

Ken Doane pinned Chuck Palumbo with the Doane-nation in 0:04:38.
Rating: *** 1/2

Not exactly sure what was up with Doane tonight, but he got a win regardless of how it went down. It's hard not to be annoyed by Chuck Palumbo, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Match #7
Cruiserweight Title Match
Rey Mysterio Jr. (c) vs. "The Notorious K.I.D." Kid Kash
Rey Mysterio Jr.'s first title defense of his second title reign put him up against the bad-tempered Kid Kash, who was also involved in last night's Cruiserweight Chaos. Kash hasn't made any friends since coming to Explosion, as was obvious last night when all five other participants in Cruiserweight Chaos beat the crap out of him and made sure he was eliminated first. Kash protested today about it being unfair to the point that Tommy Dreamer just went "To hell with it!" and gave Kash a title shot. For as bad as his attitude is, he's conversely good in the ring and went move-for-move with Mysterio. A good showing by the challenger, but Mysterio isn't ready to relinquish his new title after one night, beating Kash with the West Coast Pop in a good match.

Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Kid Kash with the West Coast Pop in 0:06:46.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Rey Mysterio Jr. retained the GCW Cruiserweight Title.)

Kash threw a little fit in the ring after he became aware that he just got beat, but Mysterio got him fair and square. Now the champion awaits the winner of Frankie Kazarian vs. Red next week to see who his next opponent will be.

MATT HARDY TRIES TO RECONCILE WITH LITA
With Jeff Hardy gone from GCW, Lita is not managing anyone. She was standing by herself backstage when her ex-boyfriend Matt Hardy approached her. The situation was awkward as they exchanged some small talk. Matt then finally broke the ice and said that he has been thinking a lot and would like to try to reconcile the relationship. Lita didn't give a definitive answer, but she looked like she was falling in love with Matt Hardy all over again.

Match #8
Television Title Match
Matt Hardy (c) vs. CM Punk (w/ Daffney)
In our final match of the evening, Matt Hardy, a night after purging his own brother from Global Championship Wrestling, put his Television Title on the line against the man he beat for it, CM Punk. This match was a cluster from the beginning. A good brawl, but not much in terms from wrestling which isn't what you would normally expect from these guys. The fighting was intense as Punk was determined to get the Television Title back. About midway through, LITA walked down to the ring and appeared to be cheering Hardy on! The tide kept swaying back and forth until in the end when Hardy had Punk set up for the Twist of Fate, Punk nailed Hardy with a blatant low blow resulting in the disqualification.

Matt Hardy defeated CM Punk by disqualification in 0:11:16.
Rating: ***
(Matt Hardy retained the GCW Television Title.)

CM Punk is an enigma, because at one point in this match he was dead set on winning the TV Title, showing great fire and desperation to get it done, and then the next minute he is getting himself disqualified on purpose. Punk kept stomping away at Hardy, leading to MONTY BROWN coming down and blasting Punk with the Pounce, knocking him out of the ring! As Brown went after Punk and the fight kept spilling outside, Matt Hardy brought himself back up to his feet. Lita came in the ring to help him up, but when Hardy was to his feet, Lita slapped Hardy across the face! Hardy looked shocked, but not nearly as shocked as when EDGE popped in out of nowhere and hit Hardy with the Spear! What the hell is Edge doing here!? Lita looked at Edge, and then the two embraced and started making out! Absolutely disgusting! Edge wasn't done yet though as he grabbed a steel chair from ring side and with Hardy face down on the mat, gave the Television champion a one-man Conchairto! Edge held the chair high over his head before throwing it down to the canvas and leaving with Lita. What a disgrace.

KURT ANGLE SNAPS!
Our final segment of the evening was one a lot of people were looking forward to as we got to hear from Kurt Angle, the former World Heavyweight champion, a mere 24 hours removed from losing the title to Brock Lesnar. Angle was in rare form, filled with a rage we have yet to see in GCW. Angle was coming up with every excuse in the book until he called out his own brother, Eric Angle! Eric came down to the ring and was on the receiving end of a verbal tirade from his brother, Kurt actually going as far as blaming him for the title loss. Kurt said that if Eric had done something, he would still be the World Heavyweight champion today. After the constant beratement, Eric finally snapped back, getting in his brother's face and saying he WANTED to help, he WANTED to get involved, he WANTED to make a big impact last night, but Kurt's ego got in the way when he told Eric to stay in the back. Seeing how pissed Eric was getting, Kurt backed down. But when Eric turned his back, Kurt snapped and hit him with an Angle Slam! Kurt pulled down the straps of his singlet and let out a primal scream before locking the Ankle Lock on his own brother! Kurt has absolutely lost his mind if he's attacking his own flesh and blood like this. As Kurt twisted the ankle further and further, BROCK LESNAR starting to the ring to stop this, but he got attacked from behind by RANDY ORTON before he could make it to the ring. The Pearl Harbor job by Orton gave him the opportunity to catch Lesnar by surprise and nail the R.K.O. on the concrete floor! The show came to an end with Lesnar unconscious on the floor and Kurt still twisting at the ankle of his own brother.

Denver, Colorado will be the host for our next pay-per-view, Chaos Reigns, from the Pepsi Center on July 24th. Two matches have been signed thus far:

World Heavyweight Title Match - Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Randy Orton

Abyss/The Hurricane vs. John Bradshaw Layfield/Rhyno

Be sure to join us next week for Monday Night Explosion! Frankie Kazarian and Red will go one-on-one for a Cruiserweight Title shot and Brock Lesnar will make his first World Heavyweight Title defense!
MatteusPosted on 05/08/06 at 20:12:31

Wow, Ry! How'd the show AFTER Super Cade get way the fuck down here? Oh well... *OW* stop poking me via private message! :-

Lesnar/Orton should be by-the-books, but getting there is going to be half the fun. Lesnar's crazy tough though... he'll have that belt awhile I'm sure.

Kazarian finally pulls the plug on Red. It's almost too bad, I see Red as one of those guys who just doesn't have any friends. Next week should be good, look for Frankie to go over and get his rematch.

JBL ain't gonna pay Rhyno, is he? Heh... JBL's gonna get butt-kicked again.

Eddie destroys, duh, but the big news is Eddie-Foley. Oh I hope I hope I hope...

CM Punk is looking like a sick, but desperate man. Like the hardy run in, probably looking at a tag match between those four next week ;)

LoL Goldie's PMSing... I don't buy the apology. And I guess that's why! This feud should be good and surprisingly brutal ;D

Guess Doanne's turning heel? Or heel-ish? He wins again... dammit, Ryan.

Great segment/match/segment with Hardy, Lita, and Edge... oh and my boy CM Punk of course. Happy Hardy retained, and Hardy/Edge should be lots of fun :)

Whoa! Kurt turned on Eric!! Yay!! Man, I love your use of Eric Angle (could you tell?) and a feud with Kurt is going to be great!

Another great great card, Master Ryan! Can't wait for Angle Reig... I mean, Chaos Reigns! ;D
Snabbit888Posted on 05/08/06 at 20:19:45

You and your supermarkouthappyfuntimehour for Eric Angle.  Hehe.  You almost make me feel bad that his push will be getting scaled back.  But worry not, only slightly.  He'll still be a big part of the show... just not super unbeatable undefeated guy as he has been for the past year.  *waits to be hit*

The Bizz 2.0Posted on 05/08/06 at 20:31:56

-I always wanted to do a Lesnar/Orton program. Excited to see
it happen. 24 Hours after the last PPV, and I already can't wait
until Chaos Reigns!

-Good way to continue the Kazarian/Red feud.

-I guess Eddie is still pissed about his loss. Pushing
Foley/Eddie program for Chas Reigns...?

-I don't care if its going to far... as long as Punk is over
and gets the last laugh, I am happy.

-Tough break for Gold T. Why would Goldust turn on his
partner like that? He's not making me laugh by doing things
like that... (good twist tho. didnt see it coming)

-The second crush of the night, dang Abyss is on a roll. Can anyone
stop him?

-Punk loses...Maaaan. Why would you tease me? Well, at least Punk got
the last laugh in the match. And then he gets the pounce from
an odd smelling Monty Brown! EDGE? Nice touch. ew... I hate it when
they make out. They go hard-effing-core.

-Ahhh... I smell a Lesnar/Eric Angle vs Kurt Angle/Randy Orton
tag match next week.

-Awesome show!!! You already got me hyped for Chaos Reigns!

;DKeep it up buddy! ;D

Great swerve with the Goldust/Booker T break-up. A couple of weeks ago, I would have sworn that it was gonna be the other way around.

Rey and Kash mesh so well together, no wonder you got a good rating out of a short match.

Hah, Matt is just screwing Lita back for what she did with him. No wait.. Edge? Hmm.. really not too fond of copying real-life storylines. Hopefully you can put an original spin to it.
Snabbit888Posted on 05/08/06 at 23:26:56

I'm not exactly trying to copy the real life storyline, but it was a major real life story during the time.  I'm trying to keep some of the real life stuff in order with GCW.  For instance, Eddie Guerrero is going to die on the same day he did in real life, Orton may be suspended because he's an asshole, and Lita did cheat on Matt Hardy with Edge.  I've been wanting Edge in GCW for awhile anyway, so this is perfect.
