[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 6/13/05

Snabbit888Posted on 05/01/06 at 23:23:36

Tensions are certainly running high as we are in Fresno, California at the SaveMart Center for Monday Night Explosion, our last stop before this Sunday's huge pay-per-view event, Super Cade! The building was filled to capacity as with us being only six days away from the biggest pay-per-view of the year, things could come to a head right here! On tonight's show, Lance Storm takes on Shark Boy, North American champion Monty Brown teams up with the new Television champion Matt Hardy to take on CM Punk and Jeff Hardy, John Bradshaw Layfield and The Hurricane go one-on-one, and in our huge main event, Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho join forces to take on Randy Orton and World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle!

KURT ANGLE DENIES THE CHARGES AGAINST HIM
Kurt Angle came out right off the bat to deny the charges levied against him that he was driving the car last week that almost hit Brock Lesnar in the parking lot. Angle's defense was that he is a superior athlete (being an Olympic gold medal winner and all) and that he didn't need the extra advantage to beat Brock Lesnar. He left it at that, leaving everyone a little untrusting of his explanation. Angle went on to call out Randy Orton, none too happy that Orton did everything he could to cost him the World Title a week ago. Orton came out, saying he didn't like Angle, but last week was all business, nothing more. Angle was not satisfied with this and a shoving match resulted, but cooler heads prevailed, but this relationship looks fractured to say the least going into our tag team main event.

Match #1
"The Crippler" Chris Benoit (w/ Nancy Benoit) vs. Stevie Richards
Stevie Richards is looking for his first win in a GCW ring, but he picked the wrong night to wrestle Chris Benoit, who is extremely focused going into Super Cade and his hate-fueled match against Steve Bradley. Richards tried anything he could think of early to slow Benoit down, but the Rabid Wolverine was in such a zone, it was like he wasn't feeling any pain. Normally Benoit finishes his matches off with the Crippler Crossface, but he was hitting his moves with such impact that he picked up the victory with the swandive headbutt.

Chris Benoit pinned Stevie Richards after a swandive headbutt in 0:05:11.
Rating: *** 1/2

What an impressive display in the ring by Benoit. Before leaving, Benoit grabbed the microphone and simply yelled out, "BRADLEY!" before making the cut throat sign. What a match that is going to be this Sunday!

Match #2
"The Notorious K.I.D." Kid Kash vs. "The Amazing" Red (w/ Cruiserweight champion Frankie "The Future" Kazarian)
The alliance that Kid Kash had formed with Frankie Kazarian and Red came to an abrupt halt a week ago when ash showed his displeasure with his former partners, turning on them and costing the team the match last week. Kazarian went to Tommy Dreamer and demanded that Red get a match with Kash this week, and that's what we saw for our second contest of the evening. Seeing that Kazarian was at ringside in Red's corner, Kash knew he would be in trouble if he let this match go on for too long. So Kash took the first opportunity he could to put this away, reversing a rana attempt by Red into a power bomb. Now a power bomb this early in the match usually wouldn't finish the contest, but Kash put his feet on the ropes and in only 38 seconds, he had won!

Kid Kash pinned Red after a power bomb in 0:00:38.
Rating: *

Frankie Kazarian couldn't believe what had happened, jumping into the ring and cracking the Notorious One from behind. Red recovered and joined in on the assault, prompting PAUL LONDON, AJ STYLES, AND REY MYSTERIO JR. to hit the ring, and all six men involved in Cruiserweight Chaos this Sunday were in the ring and the fight was on! The GCW Official Brigade finally was able to break this one up, but not after more than a few suicide dives were thrown out there. This night didn't go how Kazarian planned, and he looks nervous going into this Sunday.

EDDIE GUERRERO HAS A CRYPTIC MESSAGE FOR MICK FOLEY
"Latino Heat" Eddie Guerrero was not scheduled to wrestle tonight, but he demanded some interview time tonight. Mario Riviera conducted the interview, and forgot for the first few moments that not everyone in the viewing audience speaks Spanish. After that, Eddie got serious and had a message directed toward Mick Foley, who will be the referee for Eddie's match with Shawn Michaels at Super Cade. Guerrero made it clear to Foley that he "better call it right not the middle," claiming that if he "screwed" him over, there would be severe consequences. Eddie Guerrero is going to have his hands full enough with the Heartbreak Kid, so I'm not sure if it's wise for him to be threatening Mick Foley.

Match #3
Lance Storm vs. Shark Boy
This match was set up last week when Lance Storm offered Shark Boy to wrestle him, which Sharky was thrilled about as Storm has become his new idol. Storm seemed a little smug when he offered this match, probably thinking it would make Shark Boy's night and that he would pick up an easy win. Storm got anything but an easy win as Shark Boy came jacked up for this one and wrestled the match of his life. Storm finally looked to put this match away like he should have when he slid through Shark Boy's legs for the Maple Leaf, but Shark Boy fought through it, twisted his body, and kicked Storm into the turnbuckle. Storm hit hard, allowing Shark Boy to go to the top rope and fly off with a cross body press and in a huge upset, Shark Boy had pinned Lance Storm!

Shark Boy pinned Lance Storm after a flying cross body press in 0:07:37.
Rating: *** 1/2

The crowd was going nuts as Shark Boy was celebrating like mad, beating his idol fair and square. It took Storm a few moments to regain his bearings and realize that he had just lost to Shark Boy, putting him in very exclusive company. Storm was doing his best to swallow his pride and his disappointment, but it came to a head when Shark Boy offered him a handshake. Storm reluctantly shook Sharky's hand, but then shocked us all when he destroyed Shark Boy with a superkick. The crowd booed loudly as Storm went to the back in a hurry, not making eye contact with anyone and not looking back. What is up with Lance Storm these days?

ERIC ANGLE'S PLANS FOR SUPER CADE
We had a brief interview with Eric Angle next from the backstage area. Though Angle is not booked in a match for Super Cade, he has vowed that he is going to make a huge impact this Sunday. He didn't leave any indication of what that impact might be, but we have learned in the past that when a member of Team Angle makes a promise, they usually deliver.

Match #4
"The Teen Phenom" Ken Doane vs. Sean O'Haire (w/ Daffney)
Despite his youth, Ken Doane has been carrying himself well in his matches, wrestling like a man with much more experience. Tonight he took on another man who was once considered one of the premiere bluechippers in wrestling, the Prophecy's Sean O'Haire. Doane's youth left him prone to some mistakes early, but he has a lot of raw ability that helps him to overcome that. The finish comes when O'Haire goes for the Seanton Bomb, but Doane crotches him on the top rope. A little while after, the Teen Phenom hits a Blue Thunder Bomb for the 1-2-3.

Ken Doane pinned Sean O'Haire after a Blue Thunder Bomb in 0:07:33.
Rating: ** 1/2

It has been announced that these two will wrestle in a rematch on the Pre-Game Show before Super Cade II.

Match #5
The Hurricane vs. John Bradshaw Layfield (w/ Lamont)
You have to admire The Hurricane's guts, but he came into this match with JBL at way less than 100% thanks to the actions of Rhyno from two weeks ago. The Hurricane tried his best, but it's hard enough to take on JBL when you're at full strength, let alone when you're obviously injured. Layfield plowed right through the Man In Green, putting the match away with a huge fallaway slam.

John Bradshaw Layfield pinned The Hurricane after a fallaway slam in 0:03:34.
Rating: *** 1/4

JBL got the win, but he wasn't done yet as he tried to take The Hurricane's head off with the Stock Market Crash after the match. JBL was setting up for another one, but ABYSS ran down (with a very noticeable limp, I should add) and chased JBL away. With as much as JBL has done to make Abyss furious, I hope he knows what he is doing. For his sake, anyway.

BROCK LESNAR AND CHRIS JERICHO ARE NOT ON THE SAME PAGE
Considering they would be teaming together in the main event, Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho met up in an attempt to discuss some strategy. However, considering it was Lesnar who essentially cost Y2J the World Heavyweight Title a week ago, it didn't take long for this to degenerate into an argument. Eventually Jericho made one too many comments that Lesnar didn't like, and Lesnar responded with force, and we had ourselves a brawl! Though the altercation didn't last long, the fact that there was a physical altercation at all doesn't bode well for this teaming tonight. Then again, Kurt Angle and Randy Orton aren't exactly on the same page either, so it'll be very interesting to see what goes down.

Match #6
"The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (North American champion)/Matt Hardy (Television champion) vs. CM Punk/Jeff Hardy (w/ Lita, Daffney, & Sean O'Haire)
One week removed from Matt Hardy winning the Television Title from CM Punk (with an assist from Monty Brown), he teamed up with Brown to take on Punk and his brother Jeff Hardy, whom he will be facing this Sunday in a Ladder Match where the loser has to leave GCW for good. For one of the Hardys, this would be there last appearance ever on Explosion, and to their credit, they put on a helluva show. Early on CM Punk used his strategy he frequently uses in these matches, but one that works effectively, and that is the cat and mouse. Punk refused to get in the ring with Brown, which frustrated the intense Alpha Male to no end. This frustration led to Punk eventually taking quite a beating at the hands of the North American champion, but late in the match, Brown mistimed a clothesline that smashed Matt Hardy. Jeff followed with the Swanton Bomb on his brother and stole a victory.

The Prophecy (CM Punk and Jeff Hardy) defeated Matt Hardy and Monty Brown when J. Hardy pinned M. Hardy with the Swanton Bomb in 0:12:46.
Rating: **** 1/4

If Jeff Hardy can manage to come out on top over Matt this Sunday, not only will he be Television champion, but Matt Hardy will be gone from GCW.

PALUMBO'S PIZZA PLACE - SPECIAL GUEST - GOLDUST
Chuck Palumbo's guest on his ridiculous show this week was Goldust, and Goldust wasn't his normal jovial goofy self. Goldust was sore, and pissed off, after the 2-on-1 ass kicking he took last week from the World's Greatest Tag Team. Goldust called out Booker T, and he was pissed off to say the least, wanting to know where Booker was and why he didn't come out to help him. Booker said he tried, but he was locked in his locker room. Goldust was hesitant to believe Booker's story, but Booker appeared to be sincere in his claims. Goldust finally forgave Booker when Booker got him riled up talking about winning the World Tag Team Titles at Super Cade. Booker T and Goldust look to be on the right path to taking the gold at Super Cade.

Match #7
Petey Williams vs. Steve Bradley
We saw Chris Benoit dismantle Stevie Richards earlier tonight, but Benoit's Super Cade opponent was looking to do one better when Steve Bradley took on Petey Williams. Bradley was looking to send the same kind of message Benoit did earlier, and poor Petey suffered as a result. Bradley could have for all intents and purposes won this match a lot earlier than he did, but he pulled up Williams' shoulders three times in order to inflict more punishment. Eventually, Bradley stopped toying around with Petey and put him down with the Smashmouth.

Steve Bradley pinned Petey Williams with the Smashmouth in 0:08:19.
Rating: *** 3/4

Simply winning the match wasn't enough for Bradley though, who continued the assault post-match, causing an extreme amount of damage to Petey when he placed his head on the ring steps and gave him a nasty looking stomp. Petey will not have to miss any time, but he was definitely worse for wear. Benoit vs. Bradley is going to be brutal!

STAR QUALITY GIVE SHANIQUA A LITTLE TASTE OF HER OWN MEDICINE
Before our main event, we had a tense meeting backstage when Star Quality came across the Basham Brothers and Shaniqua. Though there was no physical altercation, the tension in the room was very clear. The ever cocky Rob Conway turned the tables a bit on Shaniqua from her past dealings and began to hit on her in the creepiest way he possibly could, which was essentially by being himself. The Bashams were becoming more and more pissed off the more that Conway put the moves on Shaniqua, eventually getting in his face. They quickly backed down though when the massive Matt Morgan stepped up. It looks like star Quality has the mental edge going into Super Cade, but let us not forget that Elix Skipper and Low-Ki are a part of this equation as well.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
Brock Lesnar/"Y2J" Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton/Kurt Angle (World Heavyweight champion) (w/ Bob Orton Jr.)
A solid tag team match is what we had for our main event, one that had a lot of interesting dynamics to it. Brock Lesnar was teaming with Chris Jericho, and current World champion Kurt Angle was teaming with Randy Orton, but after what had happened last week, neither team was on the same page. So the final rating from our experts on this match is a little misleading, because as a tag team match, sure it was lacking much tag psychology, but that was due to all the emotion involved in the contest. While both teams managed to stay together better than anyone could have anticipated, it was only a matter of time before all hell broke loose. After a particularly hard tag late in the match by Kurt Angle to Orton, Orton took exception and when Angle wasn't looking, caught him with the R.K.O.! The crowd popped huge to see the heel team fall apart first. The look on Orton's face was priceless when he realized what he just did to Angle left him in a two-on-one situation against a former World champion and the man who could be the future World champion! Lesnar and Jericho took turns nailing Orton with hard punches, bouncing him around like a pinball. However, when Jericho mistimed a springboard dropkick and nailed Lesnar, it hit the fan. Lesnar and Y2J began brawling, exchanging right hand after right hand. In a fist fight, no matter how Mariko Yoshida-like Jericho is, he's not going to win over Lesnar, who caught Y2J with a particularly hard shot. Jericho stumbled backward, right into an R.K.O. from Orton! Three seconds later and this match was over.

Kurt Angle and Randy Orton defeated Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho when R. Orton pinned Jericho with the R.K.O. in 0:15:50.
Rating: *** 1/4

As Lesnar looked down on Jericho with distain, he didn't see that Kurt Angle was back up and with the World Heavyweight Title in hand! Lesnar turned around at the last second, but only to be hit in the face instead of the back of the head with the title belt. Angle then locked on the Ankle Lock, causing Lesnar to come out of his loopy state just long enough to scream in pain before passing out. Could this be a preview of what is to come at Super Cade?

The wait is over! Next stop, Los Angeles, California and Super Cade II! The card is absolutely set in stone, and from top to bottom, is the strongest card GCW has put on since its inception in March of 2004! Here is what we have in store for you:

Again, I believe Angle didn't drive the car. Probably setting up an angle for Lesnar after Super Cade...

Benoit is a beast! Love the way you've booked him here, esp. since he's not the most charasmatic guy. You've put him in an angle where I can actually see him showing raw, real emotion. Nice going!

Again, CW Chaos should be freaking sweet!

Blah... I'm still not crazy about Mick "Teh Special Ref of Doom~!oneone" Foley, but some Guerrero/Foley goodness down the road should be worth it.

Shark Boy wins! Shark Boy wins! ...and gets destroyed. Where's your kazoo NOW, huh?!

Eric Angle seems to be getting lost in the shuffle a bit as of late...

Okay, I'm not so nuts about Ken Doane (I feel a "Die Rocky Die" chant coming on), but it's good to see you elevating new talent. PS - Sean O'Haire rules. ::)

Come on CM Punk! I so wanna see him win the belt at Super Cade, he rules so hardcore... and Jeff... meh. I'd rather Matt win I think.

I believe Booker, but I think Goldie's gonna get pissed... I thought BookDust would win the gold at SC2, but I'm rethinking that now.

LoL, Rob Conway freaked her out by being himself. Awesome :P ... I still like Star Quality to walk out with the title shot on Sunday. Again, are they face/heel/or tweeners?

Nice main event. Did the job selling both HUGE matches... and this whole foursome thing has set up some good feuds down the road.

Predictions anyone?

(I'm not going too in-depth, i just started reading ur promotion and I'm looking to read more before this)

-Nice win for Benoit, one of my personal favorites. Short match tho.

-LOL, i thought Benoit's match was short. Quick and painless huh?

-Ever since the "Defining Moment" promo on Raw, I've grown a liking to Mick Foley so I'm digging this angle.

-    >8-O!!!!! My favorite, Lance Storm, got beat by a shark boy?  Good match though, I cant get above 3 stars with Storm in my leagues.

- Sean O' Haire seems to be a favorite in these boards, good match though.

-JBL dominates Hurricane, I like the sounds of that. Abyss with a limp coming down to chase away JBL, good rivalry.

-Wow, I like the idea of Prophecy. CM Punk is my favorite rookie, wonderful superstar. Good quality match too.

Thanks for the feedback, Bizz.  All of my cards are archived both here and on the GCW website, which is linked in my sig.  I hope you keep reading. :)
