[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 6/6/05

Snabbit888Posted on 04/27/06 at 20:24:49

It is June 6, 2005, which means that Super Cade II is only 13 days away! The Rose Garden Arena was filled to the rafters as the fans of Portland, Oregon poured in for Monday Night Explosion! On tonight's broadcast, we would have a six-man tag team rematch from Mayhem with Rey Mysterio Jr., Paul London, and AJ Styles teaming up to take on Red, Kid Kash, and Cruiserweight champion Frankie Kazarian! Also, Charlie Haas, one-half of the World Tag Team champions, will take on Goldust! It will be interested to see how Haas' injured neck will hold up. We also know we will see Randy Orton take on Steve Bradley, just one week removed from them being partners, and word has it that Tommy Dreamer is not at all happy with how the Amateur Challenge ended a week ago, and he will have an announcement regarding that tonight!

SHAWN MICHAELS FINDS HIS REFEREE
The show kicked off with "Sexy Boy" blaring through the sound system and the crowd going nuts as "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels came out. HBK has wanted a match with Eddie Guerrero in the worst way after Guerrero severely injured Michaels' back with a sledgehammer back in January. Commissioner Tommy Dreamer told Michaels that he wouldn't sanction the match unless HBK found his own referee. HBK came out for this interview, and said he had found that referee. Michaels said that with what he wanted to do to Guerrero, he needed to find a man who knew all about kicking ass. He mentioned a few names such as Triple H and Steve Austin, but he decided on the most hardcore man he could think of, that being MICK FOLEY! Foley came out to a huge ovation. He grabbed the mic and after getting a couple of cheap pops, told everyone that he was glad to be back in the wrestling world and that he intended to call this match right down the middle. It looks like we have one more match to add to the Super Cade card, and with Mick Foley as the referee, it's going to certainly be a brutal battle.

Match #1
Mayhem Rematch
Rey Mysterio Jr./Paul London/"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. "The Notorious K.I.D." Kid Kash/"The Amazing" Red/Frankie "The Future" Kazarian (Cruiserweight champion)
This match was fast-paced and action-packed when it first took place at Mayhem, and it promised to be the same in the rematch tonight. The only problem was that back at Mayhem, Kid Kash was getting along with Red and Frankie Kazarian. That's not the case now, especially after the assured the Notorious K.I.D. that they would have his back a week ago, and that proved not to be the case as Kash was on the receiving end of a beating from Mysterio, London, and Styles. Kash was looking to get some revenge tonight, and he did that not long into the match. Kazarian was in the ring with AJ Styles, which is when Kid Kash went for it, grabbing Red by the hair on the apron, slamming it into the ring post and sending him to the floor. Kazarian went into the ropes, unaware of what had just happened, but he soon figured it out when his own partner kicked him in the back. The Cruiserweight champion stumbled forward right into the Styles Clash from the Phenomenal One and this one was over.

[Mayhem Rematch]:
Rey Mysterio Jr., Paul London and AJ Styles defeated Frankie Kazarian, Red and Kid Kash when Styles pinned Kazarian with the Styles Clash in 0:03:27.
Rating: *** 1/4

Kid Kash has made it clear that he doesn't want any friends anymore, and that the surly cruiserweight doesn't care how many enemies he makes. All he wants is that Cruiserweight Title, and he'll get that chance in the six-man Cruiserweight Chaos match at Super Cade. This is bad news for Frankie Kazarian though, as now he has one more man to watch his back against. Red is still loyal to him, but if the opportunity presents itself, will the temptation of being Cruiserweight champion cause him to stray as well?

TOMMY DREAMER LAYS DOWN THE LAW ON KURT ANGLE AND BROCK LESNAR
Tommy Dreamer next made his announcement, and he kept it short and sweet. He was not at all happy with how the Amateur Challenge a week ago degenerated into a massive brawl, and as a result, he is punishing both Angle and Lesnar, making them compete in matches tonight. Brock Lesnar will have to take on the World champion's brother, Eric Angle, while Kurt Angle will have to put his World Heavyweight Title on the line against the former World Heavyweight champion, Chris Jericho!

Match #2
Petey Williams vs. Stevie Richards
Petey Williams has broken out on his own, but hasn't seen much success yet (unless you consider Lance Storm refusing to release the Maple Leaf as a success). He was looking to change his fortunes tonight against Stevie Richards, who is still looking for his first win since coming to Global Championship Wrestling. Richards came out aggressively on Petey, brutalizing him in the corner with a furious onslaught of punches and kicks. Petey wrestled with more finesse though, using some great mat work to neutralize Richards before finding his opportunity to nail the Canadian Destroyer, and I don't care who you are - you're not getting up from that.

Petey Williams pinned Stevie Richards with the Canadian Destroyer in 0:04:29.
Rating: ** ¾

Petey gets himself on the winning track. If he can string together a few more wins, he will be right in contention for the Cruiserweight or Television Titles.

SHARK BOY TRIES TO CHEER UP LANCE STORM AGAIN
Shark Boy once again was pestering Lance Storm, trying to cheer him up. After playfully reprimanding him for refusing to release the Maple Leaf last week after he had beaten Petey Williams, Shark Boy said he didn't like seeing Storm being a "Grumpy Gus" and was going to cheer him up with a "face-melting kazoo solo." Sharkie proceeded to pull out a kazoo and play the theme song from "Jaws." Storm tried to put up with it as best as he possibly could, before finally snapping, taking Shark Boy's kazoo, throwing on the ground, and stomping on it. Shark Boy looked hurt by this. Storm tried to brush him off, but eventually apologized and told Shark Boy to make it up to him, he will let him showcase his skills against him in a match next week. Shark Boy was ecstatic that he would get to wrestle his "best friend" next week. At hearing the words "best friend," Storm visibly cringed before sending Shark Boy on his way.

Match #3
Goldust (w/ Sharmell) vs. Charlie Haas
Charlie Haas announced before this match that he would be wrestling it under protest due to the neck injury he suffered a couple weeks back at the hands of Abyss (who ironically is not injured himself). Haas was all but wearing a bullseye on his neck and Goldust wisely focused his attack on wearing Haas' neck out. As the match went on, the more and more obvious it was that perhaps Haas really wasn't faking this injury. Either way, Haas came into this match with a Plan B, and that Plan B was an all-out on Goldust with the help of his partner Shelton Benjamin, leading to a disqualification.

Goldust defeated Charlie Haas by disqualification in 0:07:43.
Rating: *** 1/4

As the World Tag Team champions double teamed Goldust, Charlie Haas locking on the Haas of Pain and Shelton Benjamin kicking away at the Golden One, everyone was looking to the ramp expecting Booker T to come out for the save. As the beating continued though, it was becoming clear that Booker wasn't coming. The GCW Official Brigade finally made their way out and broke this up, but the damage had definitely been done. But where exactly was Booker T? It took the team of Booker and Goldust several months to finally build a trust, but it's hard not to think that perhaps Booker T has reverted to his old ways. We hope to have an explanation for that next week.

CHRIS BENOIT IS TOLD TO LEAVE
Before we went to commercial, an official entered the locker room of "The Crippler" Chris Benoit to inform him that he was being kicked out of the building. When Benoit's wife Nancy inquired as to why, the official said that with the Rabid Wolverine's current mental state, he didn't want him to be interfering in Steve Bradley's match later on with Randy Orton. Benoit was not at all happy about this, but he did leave the building without incident. He was calm, but almost too calm. We would find out later why this was.

KURT ANGLE GIVES ERIC ANGLE HIS JOB FOR THE NIGHT
After hearing the announcement earlier that Brock Lesnar would be facing Eric Angle tonight, World Heavyweight champion Kurt Angle met with his brother to lay out the plan for the evening. The gist of the champ's directions was to make sure Lesnar didn't make it to Super Cade. "No matter what you have to do, you make sure you take Lesnar OUT!" Kurt Angle is getting desperate as June 19 inches closer and would love to see Lesnar at far less than 100%.

Match #4
Randy Orton (w/ Bob Orton Jr.) vs. Steve Bradley
A week ago, these two were partners against Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho. This week, they were going at it tooth and nail as Randy Orton and Steve Bradley faced off. Though both of these men have a lot of technical prowess, but you wouldn't know it by watching this match. These two beat the crap out of each other, plain and simple. After exchanging the advantage back and forth throughout the match, the fight finally spilled to the outside. Although they heard the referee making the count, they had no intentions of making it back into the ring as they were both counted out.

Randy Orton and Steve Bradley battled to a double countout in 0:11:09.
Rating: **** 1/4

The fight was getting out of control on the floor, but it became even more chaotic when CHRIS BENOIT ran in through the crowd and viciously started punching away at Steve Bradley! Officials ran out to break it up, but this new fight was even more intense than the one before. Officials finally did get the two separated, but it took putting Benoit in some handcuffs to do so. Here's hoping that the match at Super Cade will be what ends this brutality.

SHANIQUA CHALLENGES STAR QUALITY
Shaniqua came out with the Basham Brothers to challenge Star Quality, one of the teams they have had a lot of problems with over the past few weeks. "Ravishing" Rob Conway and "The Blueprint" Matt Morgan were more than happy to oblige, and we had a great tag team match.

Match #5
Star Quality vs. The Basham Brothers (w/ Shaniqua)
These two teams (along with Elix Skipper and Low-Ki) have developed quite the rivalry in recent weeks, exchanging wins in both tag matches and in singles triangle matches. Shaniqua desperately wants to get her Bashams back into the World Tag Team Title scene, but Star Quality has come on strong in recent weeks and our in contention as well. Shaniqua's plans seemed to be backfiring though as Star Quality looked to be on their way to winning, but a distraction by Danny Basham allowed his brother Doug to nail Conway with Shaniqua's riding crop for a cheap win.

The Basham Brothers (Doug Basham and Danny Basham) defeated Star Quality (Matt Morgan and Rob Conway) when Doug Basham pinned Conway after hitting him with the riding crop in 0:06:15.
Rating: ***

Though the match was over, the fight continued as the Bashams tried to double team Matt Morgan until ELIX SKIPPER and LOW-KI joined the fray. The three teams brawled until Shaniqua saw her men were getting the worst of the battle and made a hasty retreat with the Bashams. We learned that these three teams will all be involved in a triangle match that will determine the #1 contenders for the World Tag Team Titles at Super Cade.

Match #6
Brock Lesnar vs. Eric Angle
Kurt Angle made it clear to Eric Angle earlier that he was to take Brock Lesnar out of action, no matter what it took. Eric understood and came at Lesnar hard, surprising everyone a little bit with what he was able to do to the Monster From Minnesota. Lesnar has never looked better than he does right now though. He is peaking just at the right time as he goes into the biggest match of his life at Super Cade when he competes in the main event for the World Heavyweight Title. Eric Angle spent much of his time working on Lesnar's previously injured ribs, causing Lesnar a great deal of discomfort. Lesnar was not going to be denied though and took the win when he slipped out of an Angle Slam attempt to hit the F-5.

Brock Lesnar pinned Eric Angle with the F-5 in 0:10:58.
Rating: ** 3/4

This one wasn't over though as while Lesnar was celebrating, Eric Angle attacked him from behind. Lesnar and Angle exchanged blows, fighting their way to the back. The cameras followed as the two fought all the way out into the parking lot. The situation looked dangerous, and those looks were proven to be true when suddenly a car revved its engine and sped toward Brock Lesnar! Thankfully Lesnar was able to get out of the way just in time, but he was definitely startled. On the replays we couldn't get a good look at who was driving and they sped away immediately before they could be stopped. This was an obvious set up, but who was behind it? All signs point to one man, but it's too soon to pass judgment.

Match #7
Television Title Match
CM Punk (c) (w/ Daffney) vs. Matt Hardy
Being so close to Super Cade, this was a dangerous match for both men as CM Punk defended the Television Title against Matt Hardy. Punk will be facing Monty Brown for the North American Title at Super Cade, while Hardy will be facing his own brother Jeff Hardy in a Loser-Leaves-Town Ladder match. The stakes don't get much higher than that, but Matt would love to have the Television Title around his waist before then. With Jeff Hardy being a member of Punk's Prophecy, it was hard to fathom him not getting involved in this match. Therefore it was no surprise when Jeff Hardy, Lita, and Sean O'Haire all came to join their leader at ringside, adding cheap shots and distractions against Matt Hardy. Monty Brown had eventually seen enough of this and ran down to the ring, leveling O'Haire with a huge clothesline and press slamming Jeff Hardy into the crowd! Punk stared down Brown with his cold stare while Daffney distracted referee Petey Pluck. Punk took a swing at the Alpha Male, but Brown ducked, grabbed Punk's head, and hanged the Television champion on the top rope, causing Punk to fly back into the ring. Seconds later, Matt Hardy recovered enough to hit the Twist of Fate and made the cover. We had a brand new Television champion!

Matt Hardy pinned CM Punk with the Twist Of Fate in 0:08:15.
Rating: ****
(Matt Hardy won the GCW Television Title.)

Matt Hardy was the new Television champion, the first gold he has ever held in a GCW ring. Not only that, but this was the first time that CM Punk's shoulders had been pinned to the mat, thanks in part to Monty Brown's help. Punk won't have to wait long to get another crack at gold though as he will have a crack at Brown's North American Title at Super Cade. Also just announced, with his win tonight, Matt Hardy will now be defending the Television Title when he wrestles his own brother Jeff at Super Cade in the Loser-Leaves-Town Ladder match.

PALUMBO'S PIZZA PLACE
Before this week's guest on Palumbo's Pizza Place was announced, Chuck Palumbo directed us all to a replay of the events from last week's Explosion where thanks to a hefty sum of money from John Bradshaw Layfield, Rhyno Gored Abyss off the stage through some tables and other equipment, injuring both men in the process. Not only that, but JBL paid Rhyno to injure Abyss' little buddy The Hurricane before that. JBL was the guest on PPP, and boy was he proud of himself. After Palumbo kissed his ass for a couple minutes, JBL said that after what Rhyno did last week, there was no way that Abyss was even going to make it to Super Cade. JBL added that if Abyss somehow was man enough to drag his carcass to the ring, he would finish the job. "It's amazing what you can get done when you have money, isn't it?" Sad, but true.

Match #8
MAIN EVENT
World Heavyweight Title Match
Kurt Angle (c) vs. "Y2J" Chris Jericho
Kurt Angle cannot be happy with having to defend his World Heavyweight Title against a man the caliber of "Y2J" Chris Jericho. Throughout the night, highlights from previous encounters between these two were shown, including Jericho winning the title from Angle at Gold Rush and Angle winning it back at Beat Your Valentine. Right from the get-go, this match took a strange turn. RANDY ORTON came out to ringside early which wasn't surprising, but the shock came in that the first thing he did was nail ANGLE with an undetected clothesline on the floor! Orton was assaulting Angle, obviously wanting to help Chris Jericho win the World Title, because if Y2J won the title, Orton would then have a title shot at Super Cade. Jericho yelled at Orton to get out of there, but the self-proclaimed future legend of the business had his own agenda. He must have been watching in the back because BROCK LESNAR was not about to stand by and let this happen, coming to the ring and actually helping Angle against Jericho! We had this strange dynamic going on with men actually helping the guy that they hate the most. In the end of this one, referee Jimmy Appleseed got bumped. Orton took this chance to jump in the ring, getting in position for the R.K.O., but Lesnar cut him off with a kick to the gut and a huge power bomb. Lesnar then grabbed Jericho by the hair and dropped him with the F-5! Lesnar shouted at Angle to make the cover, who tentatively did while Lesnar put Appleseed in position to make the count.

Kurt Angle defeated Chris Jericho after interference from Brock Lesnar in 0:08:06.
Rating: **** 1/4
(Kurt Angle retained the GCW World Heavyweight Title.)

Kurt Angle was still the champion thanks to a strange assist by Brock Lesnar. This "alliance" as it was didn't last long though, as our show came to a close with Lesnar hitting the World champion with the F-5.

Just one more stop on the road to Super Cade II, next week from Fresno, California! And then after that, it's the big one, live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California! We now know the complete card for the June 19 event, and it is as follows:

North American Title - "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown (c) vs. CM Punk

Huzzah, GCW!

Oy... weeks away and you hit me with Foley? Okay, I like Foley but my blahness about this is the same as when Foley reffed Cena/Edge on RAW:why? I mean, I'm hoping it'll turn into some sweet Eddie/Mick goodness, but until then I'll just sigh.

*siiiigh*

Ouch, that hurts for Kazarian. At least ehe still has Red (aaaww...) I love Kid Kash personally. But that CW Chaos match should be hotness.

Yeah, Stevie jobs. What you got a problem wit dat? :P Good win to get back on track for Petey though.

LoL's! Kazoos get the ratings. I hate Shark Boy, but I do love him in this angle. So congrats on that :P

Good finish, but where's Book? Hijacked by Team Angle, I suppose? He couldn't turn on Goldie that fast.

Yeah, Benoit is gonna moider Bradley. That's gonna be nasty.

If anyone but you tried to convince me that Eric Angle would take out Brock Lesnar, I'd laugh myself silly... but duh. Eric Angle rocks my GCW socks.

OOOH more Benoit! Oh and a good match to boot!

Okay, maybe I'm alone here (I hope not) but I like Star Quality. Are they face or heel? I figure face since they're fighting the Bashams, but they both strike me as heelish. Good finish and the right team went over. Should be a good match at Super Cade, but I see The Bashams taking it.

Lesnar's a beast, Angle comma Eric's a beast, and Angle comma Kurt is not the driver methinks. I hope not at least... I don't buy Kurt being afraid of Lesnar, but maybe...

Whoa, whoa! Stop the presses, new champ! I didn't see that one coming... I dont think the Hardy v. Hardy match needed more spark, but it's got it. Guess this means Punk's going over at Super Cade? I'll miss seeing the champion vs. champion match...

Mmmm... I'll have my pizza with asshole heel, please. Nice segment, did the job.

Sweet main event! That IS great booking, I'm inclined to agree with mamushi about your masterness. As if I couldn't wait for the PPV, I'm salivating as we speak. Plus you set up some nice feudage for down the road possibly. Awesomeness!
rey619Posted on 05/02/06 at 13:34:30

Mick Foley is the guest referee of doom. I wonder if we get to see an Eddie vs Foley feud before Eddie dies (if he does, indeed, die in your circuit as well).

Shark Boy talks? Never heard him talk.. I wonder what he sounds like. Anyway, it seems like he has found himself another Mad Mikey. Hopefully, this little angle will work out better than the TNA version.

Booker T really has some explaining to do. Maybe the Boogeyman got him?

I like your heel-Angle a lot better than the psycho-heel Angle that plagued WWE last year, Angle is way more interesting when he tries to defend a title. So unlike the majority of your fans, I really want Angle to retain at Super Cade.

Nice brawl between Bradley and Orton here, and even more dramatic when the Wolverine interjected himself. Super Cade promises to be a bloody affair.

Tag-division looking strong as always, I wonder why we at the TNM boards are the only ones that bother having a decent tag division. While I don't see any of the three teams involved in the triangle feud holding the titles anytime soon, it's nice to see tag feuds not involving the titles.

Ouch, Punk losing the TV-title makes me want to shout in glee as that makes him more likely to best Brown at cade. Besides, what's the point in having a ladder match without something to hang above it. Brilliant booking Ryan.
