Saturday Night Main Event

Well, the WWC is back with another edition of Saturday Night Main Event, this time from Aberdeen, Washington! The show opens as owner Shane McMahon walks toward the ring in front of this crowd of a sizzling crowd of 1369!

Shane says that WWC soon will come to you on your TV-screen! That's right, WWC will follow TNA and WEW with its own tv-deal on UPN. Shane said that they would start in January with bi-weekly shows. Shane then introduced a local team of high-school dancers, here to perform for the crowd before going to a national contest in Seattle in two weeks. They are led by a pretty hot, young blonde and WWC's very own Elijah Burke! Before they get to it, William Regal comes out.

The man's man berates Shane for allowing this nonsene to take place in a wrestling ring, and on a Saturday Night Main Event. Regal says Vince would turn in his grave if he knew. The hot, young blonde tells Regal to get out and let them perform, but Regal shoves her to the ground. This causes Elijah to take offense, slapping Regal. The two starts trading forearms as Shane ushers the girls out of the ring and calls for an official. We have an impromptu match here!

Elijah Burke vs William Regal

Burke were all over Regal, landing a flying forearm and a DDT for a 2-count. Regal rolled out of the ring for a breather, but the energetic Burke was on him right away. The wily Regal ducked a clothesline, and landed several jabs to Burke's jaw, before catapulting him into the guardrail. Regal tried to follow up with a flying axhandle, but he missed, cutting himself open when he hit the rail head first.

The match went back into the ring, where Regal grounded Burke with several innovative holds. Burke got the crowd behind him, and he powered out of the Regal stretch, taking Regal down with an atomic drop and the Elijah Experience to win this match.

Backstage
MNM are seen stretching before their big tag team title defense against the Second City Saints, when Melina comes running, a smirk on her face. She tells the guys that she has been talking to the doctors, and they have refused Punk to go into the ring with his injury he sustained at a live event recently. Melina still tells them to get ready, in case Cabana decides to make it a handicap match.

Before the next match, WWC Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton came out and cut a promo telling everyone how great he was, and that at Royal Rumble, he would defeat the charity case that is Rey Mysterio. Randy said that he had shaken off the ring rust after being out of the ring for so long, and that the little jumping jack wouldn't stand a chance against a real man. He then asked the crowd if they really wanted a champion that weighed less then the belt. The crowd suddenly starts to cheer, as the pirate Burchill is perched on a balcony overlooking the ring. Orton doesn't notice, but Burchill swings down, snatches the belt and releases the rope.
Orton is caught totally by surprise as the pirate shows off his loot! Orton quickly regains his bearings, spearing Burchill to start the match off.

Burchill vs Randy Orton - Non-title Match

Orton won against Burchill a couple of weeks ago at a live event, and the buccaneer had obviously learned from his mistakes, as he was able to give young Randy a much tougher fight here tonight. Burchill dominated Orton for a while, before he was hit with the RKO out of nowhere. It was too close to the ropes, and Burchill reached for them. Seems that the ring rust isn't completey gone from Randy. Burchill is again in control, taking Randy down with the Finaly Roll, a standing moonsault and the Air Raid Crash, before going for Walk the Plank (C4). Randy blatantly low blows Burchill behind the ref's back and plants him with the RKO in the middle of the ring for the win.

Josh Matthews stands by with the American Dream Dusty Rhodes and his two clients, Jamie Noble and Kid Kash. Rhodes told the guys that tonight, the land of opportunity.. if you will.. was just opening up for them. RVD and Rey Mysterio was their opponents in single competition. Noble said that Rey Mysterio would fall at the hands of Randy Orton at Royal Rumble, and that he, the best small wrestler in the world, would soon get on top. Kash then tells a story from Rey's first day in ECW, when a couple of the guys went over and told him that they didn't have a midget division. Kash and Noble are laughing, but it stops short as Rey Mysterio comes over. Rey asks them what their Royal Rumble record is. Oh, right.. neither of them had ever competed in one. Rey informs them that he has lasted longer than anyone in wrestling history, and that he will fulfill his legacy this January, 364 days after winning the 06 Rumble.

Second City Saints vs MNM for the Tag-team Titles

Punk came out to this one with his arm in a sling. He told the fans that even though he felt he could wrestle, the doctors feared for permanent nerve injury in his arm if he didn't cool off until Royal Rumble. Melina then got in Punk's face, asking him how it felt to be Punk'd off. Punk said he didn't really know, cause there would be a tag-team title match here tonight. As it happened to be, Second City Saints was not a tag-team, more of a stable. CM Punk then introduced his and Cabana's wrestling teacher, Ace Steel! Melina put on a shocked expression, and Punk quipped: "And that Melina, is how it feels to get punk'd"

Mercury started the match with Steel, having wrestled him in his days on the indy circuit. Steel was one tough son-of-a-bitch in this match, working continously on Mercury's left arm, forcing a tag to Nitro. Nitro really didn't know how to counter the offense of this teacher-student team, and was on the receiving end of quite some double-teaming before Melina used a distraction to low-blow Steel, turning the tides for MNM.
Punk ran around the ring in hot pursuit of Melina, who screamed out loud, causing everyone to cover their ears. Ref Charles Robinson stopped the match momentarily, ordering both Punk and Melina to the back, as he couldn't concentrate on the match with them two going at it. Punk told Robinson that was fine, as now he had his three favorite ingredients, a hot girl, some whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Melina called Punk disgusting and ran to the back.

The old WWE fans were probably not used to watching a tag-match of this length, but the pure fans at ringside loved it when they realized that these guys were here to put on a clinic. Even without Melina and Punk ringside, these two managed to entertain with their in-ring abilities. Cabana had Nitro in a sharpshooter, when all of a sudden, an unknown guy walked down the ramp. Steel (who was brawling with Mercury) attacked him, but was taken down with a powerslam on the outside! At the same time, yet another guy slid into the ring and broke up the submission move with a superkick. He rolled out, and let the Snapshot do the rest. Together, these two unknown guys retreated to the back.

Backstage
After a commercial, Josh Matthews is seen in the back, trying to get hold of the two youngsters interrupting the match. He spots them as they are leaving, and runs up to them to ask who they are. The smallest one, an arrogant-looking brat, snaps the microphone out of Josh's hand. He says that they are the second coming of the greatest tag-team the WWE ever saw. He says his name is Teddy Hart, nephew of Bret and Owen Hart, and that his partner is the son of the legendary British Bulldog. Together, they are the Hart Foundation 2G!

Jamie Noble vs Rob Van Dam

Both Rhodes and Noble sported large cowboy hats when approaching the ring. Noble knew this to be the test he had wanted when making his return to the world of Sports Entertainment, and RVD knew he had to win this one if he were to prevail at the Royal Rumble.

RVD was all over Noble, hitting him with spinning kicks, clotheslines and a springboard moonsault. Dusty Rhodes jumped up on the apron and hit RVD, causing the dq. Rhodes said that Noble wasn't ready yet, and that the match had to be started again. RVD agreed, and said that he would do it for the fans.

Noble was ready for this one, and countered several of RVD's kicks into submission holds, trying to take away his offensive maneuvers. RVD tried to use Noble's own tactics, putting him in a cross-armbreaker. RVD almost won it with a cross-body, but connected with the 5-Star Frog Splash a minute later to win the match.

Backstage
Mercury and Nitro are celebrating their win and talking about the two strangers, when Melina comes in, telling them that the Hart Foundation 2G has challenged them for the titles at the first televised Smackdown show in January. It seems that the run-in was so that they would get a shot at MNM who disrespected the original Hart Foundation at last month's SNME. Nitro then finds some whipped cream on Melina's thigh, and gets a quizzical expression on his face.

Kid Kash vs Rey Mysterio

Main-event time as the #1 contender squared off against Kid Kash.

As Rey went all over Kash at the opening bell, Dusty Rhodes tried to do the same as in the previous match, get the match started over again. This time, Rey saw the attempt and gave him a hotshot on the ropes. This match was a flashback to Rey's ECW days, as he whipped out one flashy move after another in order to take Kash down. The impact on Kash's back when Rey headscissored him into the guardrail could probably be heard in the back. Kash tried to punish Rey by powerbombing him from the ropes, but Rey turned it into a top-rope rana. Dusty tried to interfere again, even entering the ring. Rey dropkicked him into the ropes and hit the 619, before taking Kash down with the WCP.

As Rey stood tall in the ring, Orton appeared in the aisle, clapping ironically before retreating to the back.

In ring
Test comes out after the match, and says that there has been some rumors floating around on the Internet that it was in fact, he, who pushed Lashley down the stairs at that hotel. Test says he now wants to demonstrate how difficult it is to push down a guy the size of Lashley. He calls out his assistant, and a guy in a big Sumo-suit comes wobbling out. Test then tells him to get on the ringsteps. Test now tries to push him down, but the big bulk won't move. Test then gives him a clothesline, sending him down in a clumsy fashion. Test then says that, OK, so maybe he DID push Lashley down, but it sure as hell was funny.

Lashley then comes running out of the back, and the two men clash mid-aisle, forearms flying back and forth between them. Lashley goes for a clothesline, but Test ducks, and Lashley rams the ringpost. Test wraps Lashley's arm around it and smacks it into the post again. Test continues to attack the arm until a bunch of OVW wrestlers comes out to keep him away from Lashley. As the show comes to and end, Test stomps away on the guy in the sumo-suit, just for good measure.

Royal Rumble line-up so far..

Rey Mysterio vs Randy Orton (c) for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Jamie Noble vs Gregory Helms(c) for the WWC Cruiserweight Title

Love the concept of the circuit, right off the bat.

Wow, four stars! What an opener! I like Elijah Burke, hope he can do something in WWC.

Tough break for Punk and Cabana.

Arrrr! Hahaha, I love Birchill in this role here. I love your write-ups btw. Not too short, not too long. And duh, RKO cheats to win. Booo!

I love Noble and Kash with Rhodes! They have a great mouthpiece to go with their ability.

...Punk'd off? Zuh? Ace Steel!! Nice! Hahaha, nice comment from Punk. Hmmm... no sure what to make of the two guys. Hopefully somebody big, though you're making it work with the guys you have. MNM retains, and I love this feud. You know it ain't over.

Nice! While it's not the big names I was looking for, they're related to even bigger names and they definetely have huge potential. Good move!

WOOOOW! Cowboy hats and boots! Classic! I wish the ten gallon hat wouldve just fallen over Noble's eyes on the way down or something. That's a new kind of Dusty Finish. But I digress...ouch. Losing to RVD twice in 9 minutes. That's painful. And I love Noble... that one hurts.

Heh... whipped cream. Oh, and looking forward to the match too ;)

Hmmm, Dusty's got some work to do after both his boys lost to Rey and RVD. But a great win for Rey and love to throw-back style angle. Still think Orton will retain though.

I hope I'm not alone in my enjoyment of the Test vs. Lashley feud. I think Test can be a big name in WWC as can Lashley. You've built the feud rather well and I'm looking forward to the match.

Nicely done! Can't wait for the TV show to start!

WWC Live Event 12.17.06

Seattle, Washington is home to the last WWC live event of 2006. WWC started out as the weakest of the three big promotions in the US, behind both TNA and WEW (Wrestling Entertainment Weekly, the RAW brand), but have managed to secure a tv-deal, starting bi-weekly on UPN in January!

Colt Cabana vs Psicosis

On a "funny" sidenote, both these men have had their tag-team partners sidelined with elbow injuries.

Cabana had Psychosis in a submission move when Super Crazy ran in with a chair, causing the DQ. CM Punk and Ace Steel chased the Mexicools off.

Colt Cabana defeated Psicosis by disqualification in 0:09:11.
Rating: ** 1/4
[Super Crazy interfered against Colt Cabana.]

The Shane Twins vs Hart Foundations 2G

The debut of the team of Teddy and Harry. The Shane Twins were high up after their dark match victory over Mexicools last SNME, but the combination of power and agility proved too much for Todd and Mike, who were schoolboy rolled-up by Harry. The victory was followed by great "Bret", "Bulldog" and "Owen" chants.

Hart Foundation 2G (Teddy Hart and Harry Smith) defeated
The Shane Twins (Mike Shane and Todd Shane) when Smith pinned M. Shane after
an inside cradle in 0:15:12.

Gregory Helms vs Nunzio in a non-title match

Helms brutalized Nunzio on the outside, leading to the countout victory for the champion.

Gregory Helms defeated Nunzio by countout in 0:09:09.

Lashley vs William Regal

Earlier on the show, Test had approached Regal, offering the Brit to help him with his Elijah-problem, if he could take care of Lashley. Regal accepted, and said he would teach that clumsy gentlemen a lesson.

Another dq finish here, Test ran in with the chair, smashing Lashley repeatedly. Elijah Burke ran in and got Lashley out of harms way, and challenged Test to a match.

Lashley defeated William Regal by disqualification in 0:04:28.

Elijah Burke vs Test

Lashley returned the favor in this one, smashing Test with a chair, causing Burke to pull off the upset with a roll-up.

Elijah Burke pinned Test after a roll up in 0:09:19.
Rating: ** 1/4
[Lashley interfered against Test.]

Kid Kash & Jamie Noble w/Dusty Rhodes vs Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio

Another loss here for Dusty and his boys. Kash and Noble are talented wrestlers, but they probably aren't on the level of RVD and Rey Rey yet. Post-match, Randy Orton ran in to attack Rey, but the faces prevailed, giving Randy a 619 and a follow-up frog splash.

Rob Van Dam and Rey Misterio defeated Kid Kash and Jamie Noble when Misterio
pinned J. Noble with the West Coast Pop in 0:14:51.
Rating: ** 3/4

Card for Smackdown 01.05.07

Des Moines, Iowa is the home for the very first Smackdown show in this new era, and the card has already been finalized!

Jamie Noble vs Elijah Burke
London & Kendrick vs Second City Saints
Rey Mysterio vs Gregory Helms (non-title match)
Test vs Lashley in an armwrestling contest
Hart Foundation 2G vs MNM - Tag Title Match
Randy Orton vs Rob Van Dam

Financial notes
Well, I actually made money this show, for the very first show! $1309 actually. I found out that it was probably a smart move to lower the merchandise and advertising levels to C for house shows, as they don't generate that much of a revenue.

Colmatteus: Glad you enjoy it, by the number of reads, you're probably not the only one. Doing WWC takes a lot less time than my previous effort, which was a fairly extensive indy circuit, where I did newsletters, websites updates etc. Since I'm still fairly involved in helping King of Old School creating exports, and testing Socko's Finance rules, I needed a "light" circuit. I'm enjoying it immensely, and can't wait for my planned feuds to come into play.

I'm quite proud of my tag-division so far. We have three top teams at the moment, and the Shane Twins, Mexicools and Kendrick/London are all there, waiting for their chance. My main event picture is quite frail at the moment, which is basically why I opted not to bring the US title back at this point.

As for bringing in the Saints and Hart Foundation... bringing in a lot of indy guys to a national or global circuit is probably not everyone's cup of tea. Yes, they may be excellent in-ring competitors, but they need the extra edge to make them successful, in a TNM fed as well as in real life. I feel Punk has everything necessary to succeed, and Cabana is a helluva charismatic guy himself. Hart and Smith have the lineage to pull it off. Ace Steel is here as a temporary replacement for the injured Punk. I'm going with injuries and no-shows as they come, so I hope my bad luck runs out soon.

Test... well.. a handy "no-show" by Lashley at the first show was the catalyst for this interesting feud. Putting over Lashley may seem like the logical choice, but as of now, I'll probably run their Rumble match unbooked.

I might have jumped the shark on Noble by having the top contender for the CW title continually lose to RVD or Rey, but as my main event scene is still quite slim, I needed the two top faces to go over someone...
