UW Fury (4/10/06)

Welcome everyone to the return of Unlimited Wrestling! We're live tonight from where it all left off, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! We're going straight to the ring right now!

The owner of UW, Colin Matteus, walks out to the ring to a mixed reaction. Matteus welcomes the fans back to Unlimited Wrestling! He says that since the deal with the NWA and "those bastards in TNA" have all failed, he's done what any good business man would do. He picked up the pieces and restarted on his quest to bring the fans the best competition possible. UW is going to kick off with a bang tonight by crowning new World Tag Team champions in a 4 Corners match! And in the main event, a new World champion will be crowned in a 15-man battle royal! Jeff Jarrett's music plays and "The King of the Mountain" is in the arena to a chorus of boos. He tells Matteus that they had a deal and he jumped ship from TNA so he could be NWA and UW World champions. He was the last UW World champ and he wants Matteus to hand his belt over now. Matteus tells him that they HAD a deal but he's in business for himself now and Jarrett can just go out and try his best to win it. Jarrett says that's no problem because there's no competition for him and he'll walk out tonight as UW World champion. Matteus told him that it wouldn't be that easy since a certain wrestler recently won his unlawful termination lawsuit against UW and will return tonight, and that man is TRIPLE H! Trips comes out and goes nose-to-nose with Jarrett, but Jeff backs off in obvious intimidation of "The Game". Hunter tells the crowd that there's only two reasons he fought his termination. The first was to win back HIS UW World Title and he'll do that tonight. The second was revenge. Revenge on Jeff Jarrett for costing him his title and revenge on the masked person who tried to end his career by attacking him with a pipe during the match several months ago. He's fully recovered and ready to take what's rightfully his. Upon saying this, Booker T is out to cheers and he reminds Triple H that it was HE who defeated Edge in an Iron Man Challenge to become #1 Contender to the UW World Title and tonight, he'd personally toss Triple H over the ropes because he's a 5-TIME 5-TIME 5-... Triple H grabs his hand and smiles, saying that HE can do that with both hands, as he holds up ten fingers signifying his 10 world titles. As he mouthed "one more", Randy Orton came out and told Triple H that he hasn't forgotten how he abandoned Evolution and left him for dead months back. Payback's a bitch and Hunter had better get ready to suffer the consequences of his actions. Orton stormed the ring as Jarrett came in from the other side, trying to get a one-up on Hunter and Booker. A melee broke out in the ring, but Hunter and Book were able to get the upper hand, sending both Jarrett and Orton crashing to the floor. Triple H and Booker were standing side-by-side as we go to commercial.

Chavo Guerrero vs. "Cocky" Sonny Siaki

In the historic first match in the return of UW's Fury, Chavo Guerrero took on the young up-and-comer Sonny Siaki.  Siaki's combination of strength and agility which had made him a TNA X champion in the past were on display during the beginning of this match, but Chavo quickly took the match to the mat and worked over his younger opponent. Siaki tried to fight out, but Chavo wore him down quickly. Siaki looked all but finished early on, and Chavo went upstairs for a Frog Splash as homage to his late uncle, former UW wrestler, Eddie Guerrero. But Siaki rolled away and went up for a high-risk move of his own. Chavo was ready and caught him with a spinning leg lariat to pick up the pinfall victory!

Chavo Guerrero pinned Sonny Siaki after a spinning leg lariat in 0:06:09.
Rating: ** 1/2

A great win for Chavo, who hopes to pick up where his uncle left off and climb to the top of the UW rankings in time. Siaki will surely see his time come in UW's future.

Edge is backstage with Josh Wantanabe. He says that tonight, the Rated R Superstar is going to run over the competition in tonight's battle royal on his way to the UW World Title. And on his way, he hopes he bumps into "that midget" Petey Williams.  Edge recollects how while he and Team Canada toured the country on the indy scene, everything was excellent between the Team members. But Edge realized that he was too big to be part of a "team". So he abandoned Team Canada and attacked Petey Williams to boot. Tonight, the whole world will get to see the beginning of Edge's domination over Team Canada. Just then, Williams comes in and attacked Edge, laying the boots to him before the UW Squad can hold both men back. Petey tells Edge to mark his words: Petey will stop Edge from winning the UW World Title tonight!

Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. The Bashams

The Bashams simply haven't been the same since the UW's closing months ago. Former members of JBL Inc., they were left disgruntled and bitter when JBL laid them off when UW temporarily out of business. Doug and Danny were forced to consider their alternatives, and after multiple conflicts, it seems a miracle they survived the layoff as a team. So despite a size disadvantage, it was little surprise that London and Kendrick ran to the ring and quickly took over The Bashams. Doug sat outside for the beginning of the match as London and Kendrick switched in and out of the ring while working over Danny. You could see Doug getting upset at ringside, but Danny finally gained the upper hand when London and Kndrick missed a double flying legdrop. Danny tagged his partner in and Doug picked up London, setting him up for the Baldo Bomb. As Danny, still groggy, climbed the turnbuckle, Kendrick pushed him off and sent him colliding into his brother! London recovered and hit Danny with a Northern Lights suplex to get the pinfall!

Paul London & Brian Kendrick defeated The Bashams (Danny Basham and Doug Basham) when P. London pinned Danny Basham after a Northern Lights suplex in 0:06:16.
Rating: ** 1/2

London and Kendrick celebrated a huge victory, heading back toward the locker room. After the match, Doug Basham got in Danny's face and started pointing his finger, blaming Danny for the loss. Danny tried to calm him down, but Doug stormed off! Danny chased after Doug, but he got clobbered by his brother in the aisle! The crowd started booing Doug as he left his brother in the aisle. Danny got up looking first confused and then enraged.

"The Alpha Male Monty Brown is backstage in a sports jacket suit and sunglasses. Tonight, he begins his rise to the top of the wrestling world in tonight's battle royal. The wrestlers of UW have no idea what it's like to step in the ring with The Alpha Male in the UW Serengeti. If anyone wants to show him otherwise, they can do so tonight, but Monty Brown is walking out of the ring with the UW World Title tonight. This prompts JBL to enter the scene, laughing. He tells Brown that he may be big, but JBL's bigger. And he may be strong, but JBL's stronger. And JBL has more wrestling smarts in his little finger than The Alpha Male has in his entire body. What's more, JBL was UW North American champion before their hiatus. He's ready to take the next step and become the World champion. He tells Brown to just go listen to some hip-hop music or some crap like that. Someone taps him on the shoulder, and it's JOHN CENA! Cena says that he'd drop a beat for Monty, but he'd rather drop Bradshaw for what he did to Orlando Jordan months back. Neither Cena nor Jordan have forgotten, and Cena and OJ are going to take out their revenge on JBL and make sure that Mr, Whitebread doesn't take the title home tonight. OJ comes up behind Cena and puts his hand on his shoulder to show his support as we cut to a commercial.

"Straight Up" Mikey Batts vs. Sean O'Haire

This was meant more to be a match to display O'Haire, the former member of Evolution whose darker side has crept through during UW's absence. On the indy scene, O'Haire was known to become something of a "bad seed", planting dark thoughts into the heads of the wrestlers backstage. It's rumored that a number of wrestlers around him suddenly started changing, turning on their friends and fans and only looking out for themselves. O'Haire dominated the much smaller Batts from the beginning, clotheslining and powerslamming him to the canvas. As he sat into a rear chinlock, you could see O'Haire whispering to his opponent. What thoughts could he possibly be filling Batts' head with? Despite a momentary comeback from Batts, O'Haire stayed in control and managed to put him away with the Prophecy.

Sean O'Haire pinned Mikey Batts with the Prophecy in 0:09:23.
Rating: **

O'Haire snickered in the ring, grinning like a mad scientist. What is this guys deal?

Limited Edition is preparing for the World Tag Team title match next, when MNM walks in and wishes them luck. Dinsmore tells Nitro that he and "Ironman" Rob Conway won't need luck. They're looking at the next UW Tag Team champions. Mercury tells Dinsmore that they've never been a great tag team on the big stage like MNM has. MNM is going to take the gold tonight and there isn't a damn thing either "Mr. Wrestling" or Conway can do about it. Conway gets up in Mercury's face, but Melina steps in front. Dinsmore pushes her away and Melina slaps the taste right out of Dinsmore's mouth! Before all hell can break loose, the UW Squad steps in to keep these two teams apart, as MNM leaves toward the ring bragging that the gold is as good as theirs.

Four Corners Match for the vacant UW World Tag Team Titles:
Limited Edition vs. MNM vs. Team Canada (Roode/Young) vs. Generation Next (Shelley/Aries)

This one was wild, as MNM and LE went right at each other from the opening bell, taking their fight to the outside and letting Team Canada and two-thirds of Generation Next (Gregory Shane Helms being the third leg of the team) start the battle. These two teams went back and forth, and once MNM and LE got themselves involved, MNM showed the prowess they've had as a tag team on the highest level for some time. Nitro and Mercury were able to keep Eric Young cornered and almost hit a Snapshot when it was broken up by Rob Conway and Bobby Roode! This brought all the teams in, and once order was restored, Austin Aries went to work on Mercury. He kept control until he went for the 450 and Nitro shook the ropes, causing him to hit the canvas! A dazed Mercury went to LE's corner accidentally and Dinsmore tagged himself in! Shelley got the quick tag to Aries and Dinsmore surprised him with a huge spinebuster! He made the cover and with Conway holding off Johnny Nitro, made the pin!

Limited Edition (Nick Dinsmore and Rob Conway) defeated MNM (Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro), Team Canada (Bobby Roode and Eric Young) and Generation Next (Alex Shelley and Austin Aries) when Dinsmore pinned A. Shelley after a spinebuster in 0:15:42.

[i(Limited Edition won the UW World Tag Team Titles.)

Limited Edition have done it! Conway and Dinsmore have finally won tag team gold on the highest level! They celebrated with one another as Nitro and Melina looked on in fury! This feud is far from over I'm sure...

Josh Wantanabe is backstage interviewing Sean O'Haire. He congratulates Sean on his impressive victory over the young Mikey Batts, but O'Haire ignores him as he watches the wrestlers preparing for the battle royal on the monitor. Josh taps Sean on the shoulder, and Sean turns around sharply and demands to know what he wants. Josh wants to know what Sean is concentrating on so intently. Sean wringes his hands together, smiles and laughs menacingly. O'Haire has some "time invested" on one of the wrestlers in this battle royal. He threatens both physical and emotional harm on Wantanabe if he asks any more questions. Wantanabe cowers and simply walks away, leaving Sean to watch the monitor.

15-Man Battle Royal for the vacant UW World Title:
Danny Basham, Doug Basham, Shelton Benjamin, Monty Brown, John Cena, Edge, Triple H, Charlie Haas, Gregory Shane Helms, Jeff Jarrett, Orlando Jordan, John Bradshaw Layfeld, Randy Orton, Booker T, Petey Williams

All 15 men started out the match in the ring and it didn't take long for the first elimination to be made, but it was quite a shocker. Petey Williams, referred to earlier as a "midget" by Edge, tossed out the biggest man in the match, JBL! Layfield was shocked and he slapped the apron in fury. John Cena made the next elimination, tossing an obviously disturbed Charlie Haas. Ever since Haas and Benjamin broke up, Charlie has not been the same. Petey Williams showed that while he may have been the smallest man in the battle royal, he still was determined to make the biggest impact, and that he did, going right for the big dogs. He made the third elimination, tossing out "The Legend Killer" himself, Randy Orton! Orton's former Evolution teammate remained and he eliminated Gregory Shane Helms at the 11-minute mark. Six seconds after the leader of Generation Next was thrown out, the leader of Team Canada made his third huge elimination AND made good on his promise from earlier tonight. Williams was being tossed by his nemesis Edge, but he turned it into a hurrananrana, taking Edge up and over the top rope to eliminate him! With ten men left, The Bashams were next to go. "The Alpha Male" clotheslined Danny out of the ring, and when Doug came over to laugh at him, Danny reached up and grabbed his arm! Booker T came by and dumped Doug to the crowd's delight! Doug and Danny fought back to the locker room from there. Down to eight men and people had started to take sides. With John Cena and Orlando Jordan in the same camp, they seemed to be a force. Booker T and Monty Brown made a deal right then and there to have each others' back, and upon seeing this, Shelton Benjamin and Petey Williams did the same. This left the two biggest players in UW, Jeff Jarrett and Triple H. Jarrett tried to make a pact, but Hunter simply slugged him. It was a donny-brook from here, and in the confusion, Jeff got himself back up and dumped Triple H from the ring! It was eleven minutes until the next elimination, as the groups seemed to kep each other in a stalemate, with Jeff Jarrett somehow managing to just survive. Cena and Jordan looked to work over The King of the Mountain and with Cena holding Jeff from behind, OJ prepared to clothesline him out of the ring. But Jarrett low-blowed Cena and ducked, as OJ clotheslined his friend over the ropes! Stunned by what he had done, Jordan was also surprised as Jeff came up from behind and immediately tossed him out as well! Booker T tossed out Shelton Benjamin a couple minutes later, leaving us with the final four: Booker T, Monty Brown, Jeff Jarrett and Team Canada's Petey Williams. Williams knew he was at a disadvantage, so he went for Jarrett, allowing all three men to gang up on the former NWA World champ. But Jeff is a ring vet, and fought his way out of that predicament (underhandedly), and tossed out Petey Williams to boot! Booker T and Monty Brown collaborated for a moment and began to walk toward Jarrett, but suddenly Monty Brown grabbed Booker by the dreads and pulled him toward the ropes, tossing him over and eliminating him from the match! Booker was stunned, but it's every man for himself and this is for the World Title! It was down to "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown and "The King of the Mountain" Jeff Jarrett for the UW World Title. Jarrett ran over and tried to dump Brown right away, but couldn't get the big man off the mat! Brown shoved him away and went at him, delivering a thunderous clothesline! He lifted Jarrett over his head and attempted to toss him, but Jarrett got a thumb to the eye and Monty dropped him. Jeff slugged away at The Alpha Male, and sent him into the ropes. Jarrett went for a clothesline, but Monty ducked, rebounded off the ropes and hit the Pounce! We're moments away from a new World champion! Monty Brown dragged Jarrett's dead weight over to the side, when GAIL KIM jumped up on the apron! What in the world is she doing here? And is she insane?! Brown saw her and started toward her. Kim stayed on the apron and Brown grabbed her. As Jarrett came to, he rushed Monty from behind, but The Alpha Male was ready for it as he moved and Jarrett collided with Kim! Brown whipped Jeff into the ropes and chased after him. As he jumped at Jarrett for another Pounce, Jeff ducked and grabbed the top ring rope. Monty Brown flew over the top rope and fell to the floor! Jeff Jarrett has won it!

(Jeff Jarrett won the UW World Title.)

Jarrett fell to the mat and clutched his chest. The referee handed him the UW World Title belt and Jarrett leapt to his feet and raised his arms in the air! Jarrett had done it! He fulfilled his promise to reclaim the UW World championship! But what does Matteus have in store for him? Who will be his first title defense? Many wrestlers made a strong case for contendership tonight, and next week we're sure to have some answers. But for now, the King of the Mountain reigns! Good night!

Card rating: ** 1/2

You did a nice job bringing us up to speed on a universe you've obviously played around with for a while. Working with a backstory is a great idea. For some reason I can't kickstart a big promotion without some sort of pre-existence. I mean, they don't spring out of nowhere.

Jarrett and Triple H get in each other faces early on.. two dominant heels trying to carve out his domain here in UWA. Glad to see Orton is in the main-event picture as well. Uh... you're not thinking of doing that bi-sexual OJ storyline with John Cena, are you?  ;)

I'm really high on Mikey Batts for a reason.. probably because he was such a success in my unbooked indy circuit. No wonder he was demolished by O'Haire, the guy's awesome. I wander who in the Royal he invested in. My gut feeling tells me it's OJ.

Surprisingly low rating on the four-corner match. Not really sure the "right" team won, but then again, I haven't actually seen Conway or Dinsmore in any other gimmicks than what they portray on RAW.

Jarrett wins the big one, just like he said he would. Surprised that Petey survived for so long, and that he had his share of high-profile eliminations.

Nice start, I'll be reading.
colmatteusPosted on 04/11/06 at 16:31:10

Thanks for the kind words! Happy to know you'll be reading!

Actually, in UW Triple H plays the same sort of character he plays in real life but as a face. He knows he's the best an he doesn't need to make friends b/c he knows that. He's just as arrogant, but the fans love it. Thus he was able to call Book on his 5-Time bit. But yeah, he's definetely heel-ish.

I like Batts, but he'll be used as "enhancement talent" early on and take his licks until I find something good to do with him. I love Sean O'Haire and I'm going to have a lot of fun with his character. He's got big big things ahead of him.

I agree on the tag rating. And I know who you think should have won, and I was going with them, but I like them in the role of chasing the titles to start.

Yeah, I'm going to work with Petey. He'll be beter than you're used to here.

Thanks again!
The Bizz 2.0Posted on 04/11/06 at 19:21:19

-I like how you still potray HHH as the "smart-ass" bad guy that the fans still love. Booker T belongs up there with the big guys, not with the Boogeyman.

-Chavo getting sympathy wins... getting under my skin bro. lol.

-My favorite tag team in this league picks up the win (Brian Kendrick/Paul London). I see gold in their future.

-Sean O' Haire is one of the best all around guys you got in your league. He's been my favorite since "The Revolution" with Mark Jindrack back in wCw. Plus I like his dark & disturbed gimmick. Please, just don't make him team up with Roddy Piper.

-Your getting on my good side tonight aren't you? We got new tag champions, and they are my 2nd fav team... Nick Dinsmore/Conway. But I do believe that you could have stretched out the "Gold on the Main Level" angle until a big PPV, it still works out here.

-Come on Randy Orton!!! Jarret takes the gold here... eh. I hope he loses it next week...

- All in all 'Teus, good job and you know you got ur kid on a "reader" list. Word.
colmatteusPosted on 04/12/06 at 00:43:19

Hahaha, well Chavo's another one of those guys whose gonna get his roles every now and again, but until I find something more solid for him to do he's going to be doing a lot of "enhancement talent" work. Actually I'm sure I'll be teaming Chavo and Batts at some point to do that "job" but if they work well together a new tag team could be on the rise :-)

No worries, no Roddy ;)

I felt the same way about Limited Edition after the final write-up was posted, but sometimes you've gotta run with your gut and see where it takes you, no?

Thanks for the comments Bizz.  Lookin' forward to PWL ;D
JustinPosted on 04/12/06 at 18:02:21

I agree with the :( on Chavo getting pity victories...

I'm interested in just who O'Haire has "time invested" in from the battle royal.

I liked Limited Edition getting the gold... solid start to your tag division

Not happy with Jarrett as champ but thats a personal thing

All in all good card..i'll keep reading for sure

UW Superstar Profile - Petey Williams
Height: 5-7
Weight 179 lbs
Finisher: The Canadian Destroyer (sunset flip piledriver)
Titles Held:
- UW World Tag Team Titles (w/ Teddy Hart; 2/21/05-4/24/05)
- UW Cruiserweight Title (6/13/05-8/30/05)
Notable feuds:
- Masahiro Chono & William Regal
- Teddy Hart

Petey Williams is the current leader of Team Canada, which also includes "Enforcer" Bobby Roode and "Showtime" Eric Young. He shocked many wrestlers and fans alike with his performance in this week's 15-man battle royal as he eliminated JBL, Randy Orton, and his arch-nemesis Edge en route to finishing in the final four before being eliminated by new champion Jeff Jarrett. But this shouldn't come as a huge surprise for the former TNA X champion and UW World Tag Team and Cruiserweight champion. He first tasted UW gold when he and then-fellow Team Canada member Teddy Hart became the first tag team champions by winning a Tag Team Turmoil match on our first ever edition of Fury. Things soured for Team Canada as Teddy Hart began no-showing and not giving his all in title defenses. Two months into their reign, Petey walked out on Teddy during a defense against William Regal and Masahiro Chono. Hart would go on to lose the match and the titles. Petey feuded with Hart and eventually sent him packing in a loser-leaves-UW match in May '05. That same night, Team Canada's leader Lance Storm left UW, leaving Petey in charge of the current form of the Team. Petey went on to win the now-inactive UW Cruiserweight championship from Billy Kidman in June and defended it successfully against all comers until UW's closure in August. Before the closure, however, Team Canada gained a new member, and apparently leader in Edge, when they interfered against Booker T in the final leg of Edge and Book's 90-minute Iron Man Challenge. Booker still came out on top, but Team Canada looked stronger than ever. When UW closed, the Team stayed together and started touring the indies together. Edge began to grow tired of the "team" aspect and felt Petey try to take away some of his thunder during a show in ROH where Petey was granted a World title shot. Edge said it should have been him, and Edge interfered, costing him the title. Edge was banned from ROH for his actions, but Petey followed him and the two engaged in bitter street fights across the country, splitting the battles fairly evenly. Now Petey is back in UW, where he hopes to continue his rise to the top of the heap and leave the Rated R Superstar in the dust.

UW Fury preview for 4/17/06:
- "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown, the last man eliminated by Jeff Jarrett in the battle royal for the UW World Title, has been walking around the UW offices as of late saying that he deserves his shot at Jarrett since he was last eliminated. He promises to make his case on Fury this Monday.
- Speaking of the UW World champion, The King of the Mountain will be in non-title action against Chavo Guerrero. With Monty Brown feeling like he was screwed out of the title by he and Gail Kim, I'm sure we'll see these two go nose-to-nose at some point during the evening.
- Matteus has announced that the UW North American title will be decided in a triple threat match between the last four men eliminated from last week's battle royal. It's going to be "The Alpha Male" Monty Brown vs. Booker T vs. Petey Williams vs. Shelton Benjamin for the UW North American title!
- Randy Orton will be in the building and he says he has a special challenge for Triple H. Obviously old wounds don't heal easy and he's still sore on Triple H walking away from Evolution. Orton would be wise to be a tad careful in messing around with the Cerebral Assassin. Regardless, he'll announce that challenge to Triple H's face this Monday!
- Edge has to be embarrassed after being eliminated from the battle royal by his nemesis Petey Williams. His problems with Team Canada are surely only just beginning. Tune in to see what The Rated R Superstar will have to say about it this Monday!
- Needless to say, The Bashams are no longer going to be teaming after they went at it last week on Fury. The fans seem to have taken their sides between the two, as Danny is being seen as the victim and Doug is being booed more than his former partner. Danny will be in action against former employer JBL on Monday, and he says he has a surprise for Doug.
- Sean O'Haire said he had an investment in the battle royal on Monday. Will he have more to say about it on Fury?
- MNM wants a shot at Limited Edition's tag team gold, and they may get their chance if they can beat Paul London and Brian Kendrick in tag team action this Monday in a Top Contenders Match!

That's it for the Newswire this week! Check back Monday for a new edition of Fury!
