WWC - Saturday Night Main Event - 26.11.06

rey619Posted on 03/28/06 at 20:52:50

WWC makes its debut the exact same place where the WWE ended, Chicago, Illinois!

As Taz and Michael Cole wished everyone welcome to a new era of wrestling, Shane McMahon came down to the ring. The owner of WWC said that the wrestling wars of the late 90's were back, courtesy of his late father. Shane admitted that since WWC was the only one of the big three without a regular TV-deal, it was an uphill battle for them to win. Shane said that WWC would present a better product than the WWE, more quality matches, less soap opera elements and above all.. more wrestling! Shane was interrupted by the WWC World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton, who came down to the ring with a smirk on his face.

Randy said that the new WWC roster stunk. There wasn't a single one out there who could challenge him for the belt. Orton went on to say that at Wrestlemania, he defeated a midget and a cripple, and that he had taken good care of the belt in the meantime. He told Shane that he could as well retire the belt and have him keep it, as he had with the US belt.

As Orton was about to leave the ring, 'Booyaka 619' played, and Rey Mysterio came in for a huge pop. Rey got into Randy's face and told him that the "midget" is still here, and as Orton may remember, he never pinned HIM at Wrestlemania. Rey challenged Orton for the title, but Orton refused. Shane O'Mac agreed with Orton, but still booked them in a non-title match for the main event.

Match 1 - the Shane Twins vs Kendrick/London

In the historical first match of WWC, the Shane Twins (formerly known as the
Gymini) squared off against the team of Paul London and Brian Kendrick. This
was power vs. speed, as the cruiserweight team had to evade the big powerhouses
in order to do damage.

London was successful at this in the early goings, connecting with a running
forearm smash, a step-up enzuigiri and a springboard double stomp. However,
when  Mike Shane actually got hold of Paul, he launched him in the air, and
caught him on the way down with a chokelift! Brian Kendrick broke the illegal
hold, but was forcefully taken down by a belly-to-belly and a powerslam by
Mike. The big Shane Twins kept Kendrick in the ring, never allowing him the hot
tag. Instead, Kendrick managed to get Mike in a headlock, ran towards the rope
and executed Sliced Bread#2. Todd Shane tried to prevent the tag, but London
jumped on him with a springboard headscissors, causing him to fly over the ropes.
London and Kendrick then finished off Mike with the Get Well Soon to win the
very first match in WWC!

Match 2 - Elijah Burke vs Gregory Helms(c) for the WWC Cruiserweight Title

The World Wrestling Confederation is all about giving new wrestlers a chance,
and that's exactly what happened here tonight as Elijah Burke, a young, intense
wrestler got when he squared off with the Cruiserweight Champ, Gregory Helms.

Elijah came out dancing to YMCA, and tried to get the fans on his side, much
as he did in OVW. However, it looked as if the nerves were getting to Burke,
as Helms was able to take control of the match, even hitting the Shining Wizard
on the young challenger. Burke was close to the ropes, and managed to grab hold
of it, breaking the pin.

Burke fired back with a series of stinging jabs, sending Helms down with a
flying clothesline. Burke then catapulted Helms into the turnbuckle, and charged
in with a flying shoulderblock. Helms was dazed, but had ring awareness enough
to duck the uncoming assault, causing Burke to fly out of the ring. Gathering
his senses, Helms dove over the ropes with a plancha, taking Burke out.
After he had rolled the challenger back in the ring, Helms softened him up
with some punches, before landing the Shining Wizard for the second time this
match. Burke did not get up.

Gregory Helms pinned Elijah Burke with the Shining Wizard in 0:07:43.
Rating: ** 1/2
(Gregory Helms retained the WWC Cruiserweight Champion.)

Match 3 - Kid Kash vs Rob van Dam

The fans were appreciative of the fact that Rob van Dam had been traded from the
WWE, and gave him a warm welcome here in Chicago.

For some reason, Kid Kash thought it was a good idea to target the legs of
Rob van Dam. Unfortunately, his kicks all missed, while RVD's were right on
target, taking Kash out with a jumping side kick before connecting with a
Lionsault. Despite the aerial prowess possessed by both men, we saw a good
amount of ground holds in this match-up, proving that neither of these men
are limited to one style of wrestling.

At about the 9-minute mark, RVD brought a chair into the ring. He waved away
Charles Robinson's attemps at removing it, and promptly DDT'ed Kid Kash on it.
RVD went up for his patented 5 Star Frog Splash, hit it perfectly and won the
match.

Rob Van Dam pinned Kid Kash with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:09:39.

Josh Matthews interviewed Test, who is making his debut tonight against Nunzio in a match scheduled to be Bobby Lashley vs Nunzio. Josh says that the reason Test is a replacement, is because Lashley sprained his ankle when he fell down a flight of stairs in a hotel last night, a hotel that Test also stayed at. Josh asks Test if he knows what happened, and Test starts laughing. Test says that the big stupid oaf tripped and fell down knocking over several guests in the process. Test says that big men aren't always as graceful as he is, and that Lashley is probably better suited as a brothel bouncer.

Match 4 - MNM(c) vs Mexicools for the WWC Tag Team Championship

Shane O'Mac and Paul Heyman really knew how to get the fed going from day 1,
as we saw the second title match of the evening. The ever so lovely Melina led
her boys to the ring for this matchup with the Mexicools.

The match started off in a relaxed pace, as MNM often went for the ropes in order
to have the Mexicans stand off. This was usually followed by an eye gouge or
something in similar effect. Mercury managed to clothesline Super Crazy over
the ropes, giving Nitro and Melina a chance to stomp away on Crazy on the outside,
while he took care of Psicosis. Crazy was rolled back into the ring, where the
champs took him down with the Snapshot to retain

(MNM retained the WWC Tag Team Titles.)

After the match, Melina said that even though WWC has several competent tag-teams, they have only one splendid team, that team being MNM. Melina goes on to say that they are the best tag-team in history, far better than the likes of the Midnight Express, New Age Outlaws, Steiner Brothers, Dudley Boyz and the Hart Foundation.

Their attention is directed towards the entrance, as a strange theme song is played. Out comes Colt Cabana and CM Punk. Punk goes on the mic, saying that MNM probably didn't know who they were, but he knew that some of the crowd did, as they were in his hometown of Chicago! He introduced himself and Colt, and said that they were the Second City Saints, here in the WWC to take away their coveted tag-team championship! Punk then went on to challenge them for the titles at the next Saturday Night Main Event. As Melina turned around to discuss with Nitro and Mercury, Punk flipper her skirt up to her waist, leaving her in her panties. As Melina covered herself, Punk told her she just got Punk'd.

Match 5 - Nunzio vs Test

Nunzio was originall scheduled to face Lashley, but he was rumored to be injured
after having his foot stuck in a lawnmover! Anyway, the returning Test took his
place.

Test brutally assaulted Nunzio with a series of forearms and punches and stiff
boots. Nunzio came on the offensive with a neckbreaker, but the much bigger Test
easily regained control and hit the Test Drive for the victory

Test pinned Nunzio with the Test Drive in 0:02:25.
Rating: * 1/4
(Lashley no-showed.)

After the match, Lashley wobbled out on some big, wooden crutches, obviously angry with Test for one thing or another. Test easily dodged the slowed Lashley, but still didn't want to fight the injured man, leading Cole and Taz to argue if Test was being honorable or just a chicken.

Rey Mysterio is on his way to the main event, when *bah God* Jamie Noble and Dusty Rhodes confront him. Noble wishes him good luck on behalf of all the cruiserweights, but lets him know that he is not the only small guy who wants to make a name for himself now that the roster is seriously short of hosses. Rhodes starts talking about his managerial services, if you will, and that he is specifically recruiting cruiserweights. Rey says he's not interested and walks away, Noble staring intensely at Rey, and Dusty being baffled at Rey's rejection.

Match 6 and YOUR main event of the evening, Randy Orton vs Rey Mysterio in a non-title match

It's time for the main event of the evening! Two-thirds of the Wrestlemania
main event faced off in a non-title match.

Orton dominated this match until Rey Rey hit a spinning headscissors followed
by the sitdown faceslam. The crowd was wild for the 619, but Orton would have
none of it, and slid out of the ring for a time-out. Back in the ring, Randy
regained control with stiff forearms and hard clotheslines, but as usual, Rey
would simply not stay down. Rey sent Randy out of the ring with a dropkick, and
dove unto the champ with a tope con hilo. Rey continued the assault by whippin
Orton into the steel barricade, nailing him with a springboard (using the
guardrail) headscissors afterwards. As Rey was contemplating his next move,
Dusty Rhodes and Jamie Noble sauntered down to the ring.

Rey wanted to know what this was all about, but it seemed that Noble and Rhodes
were on Rey's side, as they egged him on. Noble even slid Orton back into the
ring. Rey was confused, but still followed up with the springboard dropkick
sending Orton into the ropes. Rey hit the 619 and finally, the West Coast Pop
(a move banned in the past) on Randy to win this non-title match.

As Rey's arm was raised, Noble and Rhodes applauded him and walked out of the
ring.

Rey Misterio pinned Randy Orton with the West Coast Pop in 0:07:29.

Financial notes:

Well, I lost almost $6000 on this show, but I guess it'll get better. I lost quite a lot on merchandise, and my salaries were far higher than the ticket sales. Only 3 wrestlers managed to build the heat level to 6 (Rey, Randy and Kid Kash actually), but as soon as more wrestlers start getting heat, I hope more people will show up ;)
AllPowerfulGARTHPosted on 03/29/06 at 00:53:52

I dig your circuit already, Rey. You don't slack off on the details, so I'm able to get into the matches a little. And at the same time, you don't go so overboard on detail that cards will likely take forever to churn out (as in the case of SOME people's circuits...).

Also, you have the balls to use Test, which earns you like 15 billion points.
Psymin1Posted on 03/29/06 at 05:08:51

Yeah, this is the perfect result size for me.  I don't get bored reading, and it doesn't take a year too read.  Great circuit, and I'll be especially interested since your using your Financial Rules for it.  Keep it up~

Interesting concept for a circuit. The Smackdown! roster generally makes for a fun kind of circuit to run. There's a good mix of brawlers, technicians and hosses to keep Jim Ross happy.

Although, I do think Batista has many more years in the business and Finlay, while up there in age, doesn't really look it and I can see him lasting awhile too (he's basically had a renaissance on Smackdown!). However, that would make running WWC that much more challenging, which is always good.
rey619Posted on 03/29/06 at 08:00:42

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated. I agree that Batista probably has some years left, but as was pointed out, I wanted WWC to start out with a disadvantage in that most of the major stars were gone. I don't completely rule out a Batista return though.. in the wrestling world, very few retire permanently. Just ask Ric Flair and Terry Funk  ;)
TrancePosted on 03/30/06 at 01:55:22

Great start, dude. Quick question: How do you determine the revenue for your fed?
rey619Posted on 03/30/06 at 07:05:40

I use Socko's Financial Spreadsheet, which is the result of the Financial Rules project I started in the Discussions forum.

Basically, you have to choose either a Sports Entertainment fed, a Hybrid fed or a Pure fed. In SE feds, your revenue is based mostly on wrestler heat. In Pure feds, mostly on match ratings. Hybrids is based 50/50 on both. I think most circuits will lose money in the beginning, until the Heat rating of the wrestlers starts increasing.

WWC Live Event, Peoria, Ill, 30.11.06

Since the WWC only has 1 SNME a month so far, they have to use Live Events as well. Storylines will not be major here, but as the shows are streamed freely on the Internet, they will play a part. Therefore, my write-ups will be very brief as well.

Johnny Nitro vs CM Punk

MNM and the new team of Second City Saints are scheduled for a tag-team title match at the next SNME, and squared off in singles matches here tonight. CM Punk is quite over with the small Illinois crowd, and his experience helps this match become the sleeper of the night. Melina and Mercury scuffle briefly with Colt Cabana on the outside, and causes a distraction which allows Melina to low-blow punk for the win. Payback for Melina who got Punk'd last Saturday.

Johnny Nitro pinned CM Punk after outside interference in 0:18:42.
Rating: *** 1/2
[Colt Cabana interfered against Johnny Nitro.]
[Joey Mercury and Melina interfered against CM Punk.]

Elijah Burke vs Psychosis

The energetic and flamboyant dancer Elijah Burke was one of the few OVW guys being brought up to the WWC, and he is really using his opportunity well. Psychosis was simply not able to use his experience to battle Burke's determination, and was taken down by the Elijah Experience (sitdown faceslam variation). He shook the youngster hand afterwards as a sign of respect.

Elijah Burke pinned Psicosis with the Elijah Experience in 0:07:15.
Rating: ** 1/4

Colt Cabana vs Joey Mercury

Nitro and Melina tried to cheat their way to victory here as well, but CM Punk prevented them, forcing Nitro to cause the DQ by attacking Cabana in the ring. The Saints cleared the ring afterwards.

Colt Cabana defeated Joey Mercury by disqualification in 0:05:58.
Rating: ** 3/4
[Johnny Nitro interfered against Colt Cabana.]
[CM Punk interfered against Joey Mercury.]

Lashley vs Paul London & Brian Kendrick

Lashley was noticeably still injured from falling down the steps at the hotel last Friday, but still managed to dominate the two cruisers (pun intended). He first sent Kendrick down with the Dominator, and then London on top of him again, pinning both men.

Handicap-Match:
Lashley defeated Brian Kendrick and Paul London when Lashley pinned P. London
with the Dominator in 0:07:23.

Randy Orton, Kid Kash & Jamie Noble vs Burchill, Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio

Huge main event here tonight! Orton wasn't sure what to make of having Noble as a partner, as he didn't exactly help him at SNME. Noble held a low profile, but almost made the pirate Burchill tap out to the guillotine choke. RVD broke it up, and all hell broke loose. Noble and Burchill started brawling, and Rey took out Orton and himself with a spinning headscissors over the ropes. Kid Kash took advantage of the situation by smashing a chair over RVD's skull, pinning him for the win.

After the match, Shane McMahon came out and announced Rey Mysterio vs Kid Kash for next week, and Rey Mysterio vs Randy Orton at the Royal Rumble in January!

Card rating: ** 3/4

Well, with the new additions of Troy's plugin, attendance is now a factor. 654 people came and saw my Live Event, not exactly groundbreaking considering that RoH often has much bigger events. Hopefully, things will work better as the Heat rises. I still lost another $6000 though. On a positive note, the interference win actually propelled Nitro's heat from 5 to 7!

WWC Live Event, 12.01.06 - Philadelphia City, PA

The WWC moves to Pennsylvania in front of a crowd of 600 people. It certainly is a big step down for the big superstars used to perform in front of thousands, but as the wrestling world slow recovers from the death of the McMahons, this is what they get.

First, Shane McMahon came out and said that WWC had landed a regular TV deal to broadcast Saturday Night Main Events on NBC. Shane said he had the option of a 1-hour slot every week, or a 2-hour slot every other week. Shane said that as that mediocre TV-show from "down there" (TNA Impact) proved, 1-hour shows sucks. Shane said that bi-weekly SNME's would start to air in January, which meant that there is 3 more SNME's to go before the first PPV, Royal Rumble! Shane said that they would continue to hold live events the week without a SNME, and thanked the fans for showing their support to the promotion which will reign supreme in a few years time.

Gregory Helms(c) vs CM Punk in a non-title match

Colt Cabana was ringside to make sure that MNM didn't interfere, but when Helms was tossed outside, he faked being attacked by Colt, and ref Charles Robinson sent him to the back. Punk had the match won when he positioned Helms for the Pepsi Plunge, but Melina came out and distracted the ref from making the pin. At the same time, Johnny Nitro came from the crowd and rope-choked the ropes. Punk had almost regained his bearings when he got clocked by the superkick from Helms. Melina then got on the mic and asked Punk how it felt to be Punk'd!

Gregory Helms pinned CM Punk after a superkick in 0:07:27.
CM Punk suffered an elbow injury. He will be out for approximately 2 months.
Rating: **

Burchill vs Randy Orton

Randy came out and bragged about holding the World Title for 8 months.. jeez... he then made fun of Burchill's pirate gimmick, until Burchill held the saber to Orton's throat and made him walk the plank (climb to the top turnbuckle and drop down on his back)... ridiculous, but the kids in the crowd loved it. As soon as the match was on however, Orton showed that he had lost some of the ring rust displayed in his first two matches here, as he took down the buccaneer with the RKO.

Randy Orton pinned Burchill with the RKO in 0:05:36.

Battle Royal for the #1 contendership to the Cruiserweight Title

An old staple of the Smackdown brand, the Cruiserweight battle royal (or just Battle Royals in general) made its comeback here tonight, as Helms' opponent for the Royal Rumble was to be determined. Local boy Trent Acid was thrown into the lion's den, and was the big surprise of the evening. Not only was he the final man to be thrown out, he also made three eliminations himself. He did get some help by Punk when eliminating Mercury however. Acid had sent Joey out of the ring, but the tag champ skinned the cat and remained on the apron, until Punk jumped out from the crowd and dragged him down. The ref only saw Mercury standing on the outside, and sent him to the back.

Jamie Noble was the sole survivor, and his manager, the American Dream Dusty Rhodes said that the CW belt was only the first step on Noble's way to stardom in WWC.

10-Man Battle Royal:
Jamie Noble won a 10-man Battle Royal:
x P. London threw out Kash in 0:00:39
x Acid threw out Nunzio after an armbar takedown in 0:04:08
x Acid threw out P. London after an armbar submission in 0:04:31
x Psicosis threw out B. Kendrick in 0:05:15
x Mercury threw out Crazy in 0:05:46
x J. Noble threw out Psicosis in 0:06:09
x J. Noble threw out Nitro in 0:06:09
x Acid threw out Mercury in 0:15:10
x J. Noble threw out Acid after a chop in 0:22:54
Rating: *** 1/2

Rey Mysterio & Rob van Dam vs the Shane Twins

The Shane Twins stayed alive longer than anticipated in this one, as their superior power dominated their smaller opponents at times. Still, nobody ever thought the two main eventers would lose this, as they pulled out all the signature moves. The end came when RVD sent Mike Shane out of the ring with a spin kick, at the same time Rey connected with a 619 on Todd. RVD climbed up high for a Frog Splash and the victory.

After the match, RVD cut a promo about Rey winning the title from Orton at Royal Rumble, and himself taking home the Rumble.

Rey Misterio and Rob Van Dam defeated
The Shane Twins (Mike Shane and Todd Shane) when RVD pinned T. Shane with the
Five Star Frog Splash in 0:10:21.
Rating: ***

Elijah Burke & Lashley vs William Regal & Test

Lashley is still pissed at Test for making fun of his unfortunate stair accident at the SNME, and this time, they clashed in a tag-match. Test had Regal as a partner, while Lashley had chosen another brother, the flashy Elijah Burke. In a match that saw Test and Regal isolate Burke for the most of the time, Lashley cleaned house and sent Regal down with the Dominator.

Elijah Burke and Lashley defeated William Regal and Test when Lashley pinned
Regal with the Dominator in 0:14:02.
Rating: ** 1/2

Card rating: ** 3/4

Notes: Well, the heat is rising, and I only lost 3 grand. I am still a little anxious about the Rumble, as I only have 24 wrestlers on my roster... basically, I can pick the rest of the guys out of OVW (which is cheap), or hire some more well-known veterans and legends. The problem rules-wise is that I won't make any additional money on the veterans since they too start out with a Heat on 5. Well, I may have to throw away sticking to the rules if I want to hold a memorable Royal Rumble :)
