CeWF Live!
January 2005, Week 4
Baltimore, Maryland

This is the last stop before Overdrive, and tonight we'll see Kurt Angle take on Edge in the main event, but we start out with the debut of "The Original K-I-D" Shane Baker.

MATCH #1
"THE ORIGINAL K-I-D" SHANE BAKER VS JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD
Layfield nails Baker from behind before the bell rings.  He drives fists into the lower back before slamming him to the mat.  Layfield plays to the crowd before going back to work on Baker.  He whips Baker to the ropes, and Layfield attempts a clothesline, but Baker counters with a crucifix for a two count.  Both men get up and Baker nails JBL with a dropkick, followed by a hiptoss.  Baker charges in with a clothesline that takes JBL over the top rope.  Baker plays up to the crowd.  Baker goes over to the ropes, but JBL drops Baker's throat across the top rope.  JBL climbs back into the ring and nails Baker with a belly-to-back suplex.  JBL lays boots to Baker's chest, before dropping an elbow.  He gets up and repeats the elbow.  He goes for a cover, but Baker is up at two.  JBL applies a facelock.  The crowd starts stamping their feet as Baker gets to his.  He counters the facelock with a northern lights suplex for a two count.  JBL gets up first, but Baker ducks his clothesline attempt, and nails JBL with right hands.  Baker comes off the ropes and nails JBL with a Shining Wizard.  Baker goes for a cover.  He only gets a two count.  Baker can't believe it.  Baker nails JBL with a standing moonsault for another two count.  Baker goes to the top rope.  He goes for a splash, but JBL gets the boot up.  JBL gets up and nails Baker with a Clothesline From Hell.  JBL laughs then covers Baker.  1...2...3.  JBL wins!!!  Wait, no, Baker had his foot under the ropes.  JBL starts arguing with the referee.  Baker gets to his feet.  JBL doesn't see him.  Baker nails JBL in the leg, followed by his finisher, The Baker's Dozen (think Elix Skipper's WCW finisher).  He covers.  1......2......3.  The Original K-I-D pulls the upset.

Shane Baker pinned John Bradshaw Layfield with the Baker's Dozen in 0:11:50.

We are shown a recap of the last few weeks with regards to Randy Orton and Terry Funk.  Terry Funk and Shane Douglas make their way to the ring.

IS THE RKO TOUGH ENOUGH?
Randy Orton appears at the entrance way.  He announces that his tag team partner is just as tough as he is.  His partner is MAVEN.

MATCH #2
TERRY FUNK AND SHANE DOUGLAS VS RANDY ORTON AND MAVEN
As Orton and Maven enter the ring, Funk and Douglas attack.  They pair off, Douglas & Maven, and Funk & Orton.  Funk nails Orton with right hands and takes himself and Orton over the top rope.  Douglas nails Maven with a Spinebuster.  Maven rolls out of the ring.  Funk is climbing on top of Orton.  Maven nails Funk from behind and tosses him head first into the guard rail.  Douglas comes back out and tosses Maven into the ring steps.  Orton low blows Douglas from behind and rolls Douglas back into the ring.  Orton repeatedly kicks Douglas in the back, and then nails Douglas with a Lungblower.  He only gets a two count.  Orton and Maven maintain control of the match, isolating Douglas from Funk.  Maven and Douglas end up in the ring, and they go for cross-body blocks at the same time.  Maven tags Orton, and Douglas makes the hot tag.  Orton begs, but Funk lays into him with right hands.  Funk takes Orton over the top with a clothesline.  Funk then attempts his moonsault, but Orton moves, and Funk smacks his ribs on the rail.  Orton rolls Funk in the ring, and rolls him up.  Douglas made the blind tag.  The referee won't count.  Orton gets in the ref's face.  Douglas nails Orton from behind with a swinging neckbreaker.  Funk prevents Maven from breaking up the 3-count.  Funk & Douglas win.

Shane Douglas and Terry Funk defeated Randy Orton and Maven when Douglas pinned R. Orton after a swinging neckbreaker in 0:23:02.

DOUBLE DUTY
Triple H is given a message that both he and Eddie Guerrero will be competing in the 15 Man Endurance Battle Royal @ Overdrive.  Chris Jericho enters the scene and mentions he is also in the Battle Royal.  Triple H reminds him of the job he has to do tonight.  Jericho assures him that he'll get it done.

MATCH #4
JEFF JARRETT VS MARTY JANNETTY
The Rocker and The Chosen One worked very well with each other.  Lots of fluid action, but Jannetty can't catch a break here.  Jarrett wins this one with a Stroke, but maybe things are going to start looking up for Marty after this match.

Jeff Jarrett pinned Marty Jannetty with the Stroke in 0:11:48.

KEEP ROLLIN
Christian enters the ring and bragged about he got the upper hand on Paul London.  Scott Baron makes an announcement about Christian's opponent tonight.  A showcase of fire goes off, and Christian looks like he just soiled himself.

MATCH #5
CHRISTIAN VS KANE
Christian is in trouble.  Christian tries to attack Kane as he gets in the ring, but Kane tosses him off.  Kane nails Christian with a big boot.  Christian rolls out of the ring and Kane follows.  Kane nails him with a shot to the throat, followed by ramming Christian's head in the apron.  He gorilla presses Christian back into the ring.  Kane climbs the ropes and waits.  Christian gets to his feet only to meet the business end of a flying clothesline.  He goes for a cover, but Christian kicks out.  Kane picks him up and slams him.  Kane goes for an elbow, but Christian moves.  Kane sits up, but Christian dropkicks him in the face.  Kane sits up again, and Christian nails him with a stiff kick to the back.  He then gouges Kane in the eyes.  He brings Kane up and backs him into the corner.  He nails Kane with back elbows, followed by rapid boots to the midsection.  He backs up and then charges in with a dropkick to Kane's face again.  He grabs Kane by the legs, and lifts Kane off the ground, dropping him on his back.  He covers, but gets a one count.  Christian attempts a series of small moves for the remainder of the match.  He goes for the Unprettier, but can't turn him around.  Kane takes Christian down with a Manhattan Drop.  The crowd starts cheering.  Paul London comes to ringside.  Christian is the first to get up.  He spots London.  Rather than finish Kane, he decides to get into it with London.  London isn't touching him though.  London gets on the apron, and Kane gets up.  London pulls something from his pocket.  It's a PORTABLE HORN.  He blasts it in Christian's face, and it startles him.  He walks right into Kane's Choke Slam from Hell, and then a 3 count.

Kane pinned Christian with the Choke Slam in 0:12:41.

Paul London laughs as he walks to the back.  Christian rolls out of the ring, holding his ears.

MATCH #6
CHRIS JERICHO VS EDDIE GUERRERO
We find out HHH is banned from ringside.  Jericho and Eddie start brawling from the moment the bell rings.  It would go on for three minutes until Chris Benoit hit the ring and started attacking Jericho.  In a bold move, the faces have decided to play a heel tactic and cause an intentional disqualification.  Triple H ran down to the ring, but Eddie & Benoit left the ring and celebrated in the crowd.

MAIN EVENT
KURT ANGLE VS EDGE

Edge pinned Kurt Angle with the Spear in 0:04:29.  Edge suffered an elbow injury.
Rating: ** 3/4

Out of the crowd comes ROB VAN DAM.  He starts fighting with Angle.  He whips Angle into the turnbuckle, and gets Angle with a Monkey Flip.  He then climbs the ropes and points to himself.  He nails Angle with a Five-Star Frog Splash.

WHAT HAPPENS NOW?
Scott Baron announces Edge will not be competing in the Triple Threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship.  He announces that the winner of the 15-Man Battle Royal will take the third spot as the show ends.

NOTES:
The show before Overdrive yields some interesting scenarios:

With Edge injured, which one of the 15 will end up taking the spot?  Here is the entrant list: Batista, Chris Jericho, Christian, Redeemer, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Kane, Triple H, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Big Show, Sting, Ric Stone, Booker T, and Hulk Hogan.  This could mean Triple Duty for Triple H or Eddie Guerrero.

Paul London gets his chance at Christian, although Christian might have trouble hearing when the bell rings.

Randy Orton and Terry Funk looks like it might be a blood-bath, but will Maven or Shane Douglas play a factor?

Here is the finalized line-up:

Good opening match, though I don't like to see my beloved JBL lose.  It brings tears to my eye, and perhaps my colon as well.

Well of course Orton wasn't going to win that one.  His partner was freakin' Maven. :)

Yay Monty Brown.  Had Luger won that match, there's a good chance I wouldn't read your stuff anymore. :)

Triple H or Eddie may both have long nights ahead of them at Overdrive.

Poor Jannetty.  I want to see him have one more decent run before he spends his life in jail.

Did London just airhorn Christian?  Is he in the Spirit Squad now!?  Didn't think Christian was going to get past Kane.

Benoit interferes on Eddie's behalf before Jericho/HHH can get the better of him in a 2-on-1 attack.  Good strategy.

Uh oh... that injury to Edge is big, but it doesn't nicely fit his injury prone nature.  How long is he going to be out past Overdrive?
