CeWF Live!
January 2005, Week 3
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Last week, we saw Edge earn the second spot in the World Heavyweight Title match.  Who will earn the third spot?  We're kicking things off with The Heartbreak Kid.

MATCH #1
SHAWN MICHAELS VS BATISTA
GAUNTLET #3
This proved to be a very interesting match.  Early on, Batista dominated with power moves, but when it came to going for a move that get him the match, HBK used his resilience to sneak out of the moves.  He rolled up Batista for a two-count, and then met the business end of a demonic clothesline.  Batista went for the Batista Bomb, but HBK took the elevator down, followed by a whip to the turnbuckle.  HBK charged, Batista moved, HBK jumped, and nailed Batista with a flying forearm/cross-body combination that was able to keep Batista down for a three-count.

Shawn Michaels pinned Batista after a flying forearm in 0:09:50.

THE CRIPPLER'S GAME
Backstage, Triple H is bragging about what he'll do to Eddie Guerrero at Overdrive.  This goes on for a few minutes before Chris Benoit appears behind him.  He tells Triple H that he knows Eddie better than anyone, and that you don't take him lightly.  Triple H shrugs Benoit off and tells him that he doesn't need Benoit's advice.  Benoit says that if Trips believes his own hype, then why don't they have a match tonight?  Trips accepts.  It should be a good one.

MATCH #2
RANDY ORTON VS SHELTON BENJAMIN
Orton was not pleased with the news that he has a match with Terry Funk at Overdrive.  Shelton was looking a victory in his CeWF debut.  Orton and Benjamin start out exchanging small holds.  Benjamin hit an impressive standing dropkick, followed by an attempt at a t-bone suplex, but Orton snuck out of it.  Orton nailed Benjamin with a backbreaker and covered for a 2 count.  Orton sent Benjamin to the corner, and Orton charged but Benjamin moved.  Benjamin nailed Orton with a Stinger Splash, followed by a roll up, but Orton got to the ropes to prevent the three.  Orton then sent Benjamin to the outside.  Orton dropped Shelton neck first on the railing, and then proceeded to argue with the fans that he was in fact hardcore.  He went and got a chair and proceeded to beat Shelton, thus ending the match.  It was short, but Randy has made it clear that Terry Funk may be over his head at Overdrive.

Shelton Benjamin defeated Randy Orton by disqualification in 0:06:34.

ORTON VS FUNK BEFORE OVERDRIVE?
Scott Baron stands at the entrance way with a microphone and says that he better get a tag team partner, because next week, he and that partner will take on Terry Funk and Shane Douglas.  Orton looks pissed.

MATCH #3
THE BIG SHOW VS SHAWN MICHAELS
GAUNTLER #3
Shawn Michaels was no match here for The Show tonight, as HBK couldn't get anything going from the beginning.  Shawn eventually walks right into a Choke Slam at around three minutes.  Shawn looked disappointed in himself.

The Big Show pinned Shawn Michaels with the Choke Slam in 0:03:05.

MATCH #4
SCOTT STEINER & TRACEY SMOTHERS VS THE HARDY BOYZ
Steiner goes and gets Tracey Smothers to be his tag team partner.  Tracey and Matt start off, exchanging right hands.  Tracey then dominates Matt after nailing him with a clothesline.  He tags Steiner in and Steiner nails him with an elbow while Matt is on Smothers' knee.  Steiner puts the boots to him and starts toying with him.  Steiner slams Hardy to the mat, then does some push-ups.  Jeff runs in and kicks Steiner in the head.  The ref gets distracted and Tracey and Scott double-team Matt.  Tracey comes back in and nails Matt with a sidewalk slam, followed by an elbow drop and a two count.  The double-teaming continues for about five minutes before Matt hits a desperation move; a neckbreaker drop on Smothers.  Matt makes the hot tag as Steiner comes in.  Hardy starts firing away with right hands and dropkicks that sends Steiner to the outside.  Smothers charges and Jeff ducks dropping Smothers to the outside as well.  Matt bends down and Jeff gets a running start into a suicide dive onto Smothers and Steiner, followed by Matt launching himself onto everybody.  Steiner keeps Jeff on the outside.  Matt and Smothers re-enter the ring.  Smothers goes for a back body drop, but Matt catches him and nails him with the Twist of Fate.  The referee won't count.  Matt complains.  Jeff climbs the ropes and tries for the Swanton but Steiner holds his leg.  Smothers pulls Jeff down and nails him with the Jawjacker.  He covers.  Matt tries to make a save but Steiner gets to him and the ref counts to 3.

Scott Steiner and Tracey Smothers defeated
The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) when T. Smothers pinned J. Hardy with the Jawjacker in 0:24:26.
Rating: ** 1/4

TAG TEAM TURMOIL
Scott Baron announces that four teams will compete for the vacant CeWF World Tag Team Titles at Overdrive.  These four teams are the two we have just seen, plus Hardcore Holly & Bam Bam Bigelow, and The Dudley Boys.

MATCH #5
THE BIG SHOW VS THE UNDERTAKER
GAUNTLET #3
Big Show was in no way fatigued for this match and was ready to bring it to The Undertaker.  They started off with a confrontation which led to Big Show shoving Undertaker, which led to Undertaker bouncing off the ropes and nailing Show with shots to the throat which rocked the big man to the ropes.  Big Show comes off the ropes with a clothesline that sends The Undertaker right back.  Big Show then slams Taker to the mat.  Show drops an elbow on Taker for a two count.  Show picks up the big man and throws him to the corner.  He chops Taker hard then whips him to the other corner.  Show follows right behind him with a body splash.  Show extends a leg across the throat of Taker.  The ref counts and Show lets go at four.  Show rams a knee into the gut of Taker.  Show steps back, but this allows Taker to start fighting back with right hands of his own.  He nails Show with a throat thrust, then runs off the ropes and nails him with Taker's patented leaping clothesline.  Show gets rocked, but doesn't go down.  Taker takes a shot at the knees, then nails Show with another clothesline and Show finally goes down.  Taker takes a step then drops a leaping elbowdrop.  Taker gets a two count, then applies a dragon sleeper.  Show gets to his feet and manages to life Taker in the air and brings Taker down with a powerslam.  Both men are down, and the ref counts.  Show gets up at six, and drops a leg down on Taker.  He gets up and drops another one.  He gets a close two count.  He picks up Taker and whips him to the ropes and takes Taker down with a side slam.  Show maintains control for the next five minutes.  Show brings Taker outside and whips Taker into the ring steps.  Show picks up the steps and tries to drop them on Taker, but Taker moves.  Taker quickly gets up and starts nailing Show with right hands and then pushes Show into the ring post.  Show rolls back into the ring as Taker climbs the turnbuckle.  Taker waits for Show and nails him with a flying clothesline.  Taker then nails Show with a patented Taker legdrop.  Taker picks Show up and starts working on his arm.  Taker climbs the ropes with Show's arm and jumps down the arm.  Big Show walks right into a Taker DDT.  Taker sits up, and slowly waits for Show.  Taker raises an arm, signaling for a Choke Slam.  Show gets up and Taker grabs him, but he can't pick him up.  Show shoves him off and Taker walks right into a Choke Slam from the Big Show.  He covers for a three count and a well-earned, yet surprising victory.

The Big Show pinned The Undertaker with the Choke Slam in 0:21:57.

EVERYTHING IS GOOD WHEN YOU'RE...
Rob Van Dam charges the ring.  He goes right after Big Show with a chair.  He cracks Big Show across the head, and drops the chair.  Scott Baron comes out and says that he respects RVD for doing what he has to do to ensure victory.  He calls for the bell and the next Gauntlet match begins.

MATCH #6
ROB VAN DAM VS THE BIG SHOW
GAUNTLET #3
Rob Van Dam lays into an already exhausted Big Show with roundhouse kicks, followed a cartwheel display and another roundhouse kick.  Show is down.  RVD climbs the ropes and nails Show with The Five-Star Frog Splash.  He goes for a count, but Show shoves him off at two.  RVD runs off the ropes and nails Show with Rolling Thunder.   He then nails Show with a leg drop, followed by another cover for only a two count.  Show slowly gets up.  RVD charges, but Show gets a boot up, and RVD goes down.  Show is tired.  RVD gets up and charges again, but Show gets him by the throat.  RVD kicks the legs out from under The Big Show.  Nobody realizes the chair is still in the ring.  RVD nails Show with a leg sweep, and Show hits the chair hard.  RVD goes for a cover and Show isn't getting up this time.  RVD has picked his spot and it succeeded.  He is going to the last match of the night.

Rob Van Dam pinned The Big Show after a legsweep in 0:04:43.

MATCH #7
PAUL LONDON VS TEST
Before this match took place, we find out that Paul London will meet Christian at Overdrive.  Test was cannon fodder for London despite the size difference.  London's speed was a key factor here.  It worked until Test hit the Big Boot, but London didn't stay down.  Christian made his way to ringside and got on the apron.  London almost got distracted, but sensed when Test was going to attack, and moved.  Test collided with Christian, and Test walked right into a DDT.  London then went to the top rope and hit a 450 Splash, and got the three count.

Paul London pinned Test with the 450 Splash in 0:09:58.
Rating: * ½

Christian attacked Paul London after the match, nailing with not one, but two Unprettiers, and exclaimed that is how he rolls.

IT'S TIME TO PLAY THE GAME
Triple H is lacing up his boots when Eddie Guerrero enters.  He gets right in Trips' face and says that he is going to peck at the pieces that Benoit leaves behind.

MATCH #8
CHRIS BENOIT VS TRIPLE H
Here we go.  Benoit and HHH circle each other before locking up in the middle of the ring.  Benoit gets Triple H in a side headlock.  Trips reverses it into a hammerlock.  Benoit shifts momentum so that Trips is flipped over, and Benoit applies an arm-lock, then drops a leg on it, and then applies more pressure.  Trips gets to the ropes, and Benoit breaks it.  Both men get back, and Benoit goes back to working on the arm, and wrenches it a little bit more.  Trips reverses it, then nails Benoit in the midsection with a kick, and then works over Benoit's head with right hands.  Trips comes off the ropes and drops Benoit's head on his knee.  Trips comes off the ropes again and drops a knee across the head of Benoit and goes for the first cover of the match.  It's a two count.  Trips applies a rear chinlock, as Benoit struggles to get out of it.  The crowd starts supporting Benoit as Benoit makes it to his feet and brings Trips down with a belly-to-back suplex.  Both men are down, and Benoit is up first.  Benoit backs Trips into the corner and nails him with some stiff chops before whipping him to the opposite corner.  Benoit charges in, but Trips moves.  Benoit hits the post, and Trips follows it up with a neckbreaker.  He covers Benoit for a two count.  Trips is getting furious.  He brings Benoit up and nails him with a snap suplex into a cover.  Only two.  Trips gets back up with Benoit and rams Benoit's head into the turnbuckle, followed by a kick to the gut, and attempts a Pedigree, but Benoit backdrops Trips.  Both men are down again, and Benoit is the first one up and blocks a right hand from Trips, and nails him with a kick, followed by a reverse atomic drop, and follows that with a bulldog.  Benoit climbs the top rope and nails Triple H with the Swan Dive Headbutt.  Benoit goes for a cover and gets the closest two count in history.  Benoit brings Triple H by the waist and gives him the German Suplex sequence, but on the third, Triple H blocks it with a back elbow, then a low blow out of view of the referee.  Trips goes for the Pedigree, but Benoit blocks it and gets a standing Crossface on Trips, but Trips runs into the ropes.  Benoit lets go and Trips lands on the outside.  Triple H pulls out something from under the ring.  It's a sledgehammer.  As Benoit comes over, Trips nails Benoit in the head with it.  The ref caught him.  The bell rings.  The match is over.

Chris Benoit defeated Triple H by disqualification in 0:15:21.

THINGS GET LATINO HEATED
Triple H is clearly upset about being caught cheating.  He continues to beat down Benoit until Eddie charges the ring with a sledge hammer of his own.  It looks like a confrontation of the sledgehammers, but Trips throws his down and takes the low road.  Trips smiles at Eddie as he retreats to the back.

SURPRISE!
Scott Baron comes out one more time, and announces his surprise.  It is the man who will face Rob Van Dam right now.

MAIN EVENT
ROB VAN DAM VS STING
GAUNTLET #3
The crowd goes wild for Sting.  Sting was a little rusty as Rob Van Dam controlled the entire pace of the match, although it was questionable as to whether or not Sting had any chance of winning.  By no means is this a spectacular match, but the crowd loved it.  Rob Van Dam ends up in the corner, and almost gets a Stinger Splash, but gets out of the way.  RVD nails Sting with a sitdown faceslam, followed by the Rolling Thunder.  The crowd has now shifted from Sting to RVD.  RVD climbs the ropes and successfully connects with the Five-Star Frog Splash.  RVD wins!!!  Sting rolls out of the ring and salutes RVD gracefully.  We now have our Overdrive! main event.

Rob Van Dam pinned Sting with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:06:38.

I really like where all this is going.  Not having champs yet makes it hard for too many feuds to be going through yet, but you're doing a good job of starting those rivalries with Funk/Orton and HHH/Eddie.  Plus the World Title match at Overdrive should be awesome.  I'm really getting into this.  Good job.
