CeWF Live!
January 2005, Week 2
Atlantic City, New Jersey

Last week, we saw Kurt Angle win the first of three gauntlets.  Tonight, we kicks things off with Chris Jericho.

MATCH #1
CHRIS JERICHO VS KANE
GAUNTLET #2
Jericho and Kane are fighting to continue on in the gauntlet.  Jericho, as fast as he is, used his size and speed to his advantage.  Kane threw clothesline that missed, which allowed Chris Jericho to nail him with a couple of dropkicks that rocked the big man.  Jericho took Kane to the outside, and the fight did not stop there.  Kane took advantage here, whipping Jericho into the steps.  Kane threw Jericho back into the ring, and after some back and forth action, Kane went for a flying clothesline, but Jericho ducked and immediately locked on the Walls of Jericho.  Kane struggled, but the big man eventually tapped, allowing Jericho to move on.

Chris Jericho made Kane submit to the Walls Of Jericho in 0:12:29.
Rating: **** 1/4

CHRISTIAN BRAGS
Christian is backstage bragging about how he won the chance to be in tonight's gauntlet, when Paul London gets in his face.  London is angry, and Christian just keeps adding salt to the wounds.  Christian walks away, but London vows to get even.

MATCH #2
LEX LUGER VS SHINYA HASHIMOTO
This was a special attraction match.  Lex Luger had made a challenge to anyone, and Shinya was the first to answer.   Luger thought this match would be a cake walk, but for every clothesline and powerslam Luger threw, Hashimoto had something equal or more powerful.  Luger's cockiness was his undoing, and Shinya hit the Vertical Drop DDT for a well deserved victory.

Shinya Hashimoto pinned Lex Luger with the Vertical Drop DDT in 0:08:25.
Rating: 1/2*

MATCH #3
CHRIS JERICHO VS RIC STONE
GAUNTLET #2
Stone and Jericho put on a great match with the time given.  This match lasted less than six minutes, but they made sure to keep the fans guessing.  Stone nailed Jericho with a spinebuster, followed by an attempted cross-body block that Jericho countered with a powerslam and a quick leg hook for a surprising three count.  Chris Jericho advances.

Chris Jericho pinned Ric Stone after a powerslam in 0:05:18.
Rating: **** 1/4

MATCH #4
MARTY JANNETTY VS TEST
Hooray.  A match nobody will care about at all.  Test and Jannetty exchange a few moves, and Jannetty hits a Rocker Dropper for a victory and the crowd dies a little inside for having watched this.

Marty Jannetty pinned Test with the Rocker Dropper in 0:12:25.
Rating: * 1/4

AN ADDED MATCH TONIGHT
Scott Baron announces that Sabu will face William Regal tonight.  That should be worth watching.

MATCH #5
CHRIS JERICHO VS EDGE
GAUNTLET #2
Edge attacked Jericho in the aisle, as Jericho shows signs that he is losing steam.  Edge pretty much plays the part of a scavenger in this match.  He capitalizes on a hurt Jericho and nails him with The Spear, and a nonchalant three count.  Jericho is gone, and Edge moves on.

Edge pinned Chris Jericho with the Spear in 0:03:16.
Rating: ** 1/4

MATCH #6
CHARLIE HAAS VS PERRY SATURN
Some midcard filler here for the fans.  Not the greatest match, but decent enough that it kept the fans occupied.  Haas found himself in a capture suplex that sent him the outside.  Saturn went for a suicide dive, but Haas moved.  Saturn smacked his arm on the announcers table.  Haas proceeded to work over the arm.  Later in the match, Saturn regains control, and attempt a Death Valley Driver.  His arm gives out, and Haas rolls down and cradles Saturn for a three count.

Charlie Haas defeated Perry Saturn via pinfall in 0:11:07.
Rating: **

MATCH #7
EDGE VS CHRISTIAN
GAUNTLET #2
Christian was smiling all the way to the ring because of his number in this gauntlet.  Edge wasn't fatigued at all, and he and Christian put on a decent match.  Christian hit the Unprettier on Edge, but a commotion was starting in the crowd.  It was Paul London.  He made his way to ringside, but never got on the apron or in the ring.  This distracted Christian enough for Edge to get up and nail Christian with The Spear for the victory.  London laughed all the way to back, and when Christian got up, he threw a tantrum.

Edge pinned Christian with the Spear in 0:11:34.
Rating: ** 1/4

TRIPLE H SPEAKS
Triple H made his way to ring, clearly upset over his loss to Eddie Guerrero last week.  He called out Scott Baron, who answered him from his office.  Scott has officially booked Eddie Guerrero and Triple H in a rematch at Overdrive.  Triple H was pleased, but still angry over the fact that he wasn't going to be the World Heavyweight Champion.

MATCH #8
SABU VS WILLIAM REGAL
Regal waited for Sabu, who came out of the crowd.  The element of surprise worked well for Sabu, and Regal never had a chance.  Regal eventually gave in to a Fujiwara armbar and Sabu earns a victory.

Sabu defeated William Regal when William Regal passed out in a Fujiwara armbar in 0:02:18.
Rating: ** ¾

MAIN EVENT
EDGE VS HULK HOGAN
GAUNTLET #2
Talk about nuts.  The crowd went on for a good ten minutes as Hogan made his way to the ring.  Edge got angry and attacked Hogan before the bell rang.  Edge hit a spear about five minutes in, but it only got a two count.  Hulk started hulking up and the crowd loved it.  Hogan laid into Edge with right hands, followed by a big boot, which Edge ducked, and Hogan nailed the referee by accident.  Hogan, being the nice guy, went to help the guy.  Edge, being the opportunist, went and got a chair.  He waited and cracked Hogan over the head with the chair, followed by a huge Spear.  The crowd was shocked as the ref's hand slowly came down for the three count which ensured that Edge would have the chance to fight for the World Heavyweight Championship at Overdrive.  Edge mocked Hogan as the show ended.

Edge pinned Hulk Hogan with the Spear in 0:13:40.
Rating: *** 1/4

This show didn't have quite the same feel as the first one did from a big show standpoint (minus the main event) but it was high quality.  Edge gets the huge rub from Hogan in that one.  No matter who is the third man in the Gauntlet, Edge/Angle a good match makes.

One little note I have, and this is just my personal preference and a suggestion, but it's hard for me to get complete immersed in your product if you badmouth it.  Sure, Jannetty vs. Test might not be a match of the year candidate, but you don't need to point that out to me.  If you think it's a shitty match, why should I care about what you book, you know?

The PPV is shaping up to be a good one.  Orton/Funk should be intense, and if Eddie/HHH get some time, that could be a great one.
