Re: [TEW] The Harwell Dynasties...

rey619Posted on 01/27/06 at 12:00:53

Read other people's circuits.. do a write-up of how the match went. I'm not saying that you write move for move, but something like..

Jimmy Rave vs Brandon Harwell

The youngster Harwell tried his best against the Crown Prince of the Embassy, and has obviously learned a lot from Bobby Heenan, including how to pull tights when necessary, perform low blows, or act on distractions from the managerial legend himself. In the end, though, Rave became too much for the youngster. After nailing him with Gonorrhea, Rave took him down with the Rave Clash, sending yet another message to his former mentor, AJ Styles, that the move is HIS, and his alone.

The problem with doing a writeup with TEW is that you don't see how the match breaks down, so you basically have to come up with what happened yourself (the ultra-big letdown of TEW imo). Since you've never seen an ROH show, and doesn't know the wrestlers very good.. this can be a real problem.

Interviews and backstage segments should, if not written in its entirety as some people do, provide a general outline of what went down.

Interview with Bryan Danielson: The American Dragon said that he has waited all his life for this one opportunity for the RoH World Title, and that neither Austin Aries or anyone else in Generation Next should come in his way.

This is pretty cool Anubis, keep it up.

I like the last card you posted best with the addition of the little match write-ups.  I think I am going to have to do that to my circuit, that way people will care about the match more, so good job.

A decent little start here, but I have two quick comments.

1) I *HATE* seeing men and women wrestle.  Hate it hate it hate it.  Unless it's someone who is just imposing looking like Chyna, it never comes off as being realistic.  It may sound like I'm simply drinking from the cup of masogony <sp?>, but if the woman doesn't lose every time, I'd be frustrated as hell with this promotion.

2) You're opening every show with an interview of yourself?  Aren't you the one who hates the McMahons for constantly pushing themselves down the audience's throat? ;)
UnrightPosted on 01/27/06 at 21:33:24

You're doing pretty good, Anubis.. keep it up!

Couple of notes...

i) How come you went with your real name, and not the Anubis persona? Are you saving it for when you consider yourself a decent enough wrestler to stand on your own? I could see you doing a heel turn, donning a mask and calling yourself "ANUBIS"!

ii) I kinda agree with Snabbit on the Chuck/Mariko match.. Shouldn't Mariko be fighting women to help them build their stats?

iii) I always dug the insanity of the TEW AI booking.. I remember BG James winning the TNA World Title and dominating with it for months...

iv) Don't forget to give updates about how your character has been improving, as that seems to be the side attraction of your fed.
Snabbit888Posted on 01/28/06 at 00:17:16

I'll be reading, but I warn you, it's no guarantee I'll come around on it.  I'm just very old school on that.  I have no problems with women wrestling in the least, but I'm a strong advocate of a men's division and a women's division.  It's the same type of thing where you were talking on the WWE forums awhile back about how you couldn't buy Rey Mysterio Jr. ever being a World champion because of how small he is.  It's the same thing for me here.  I can't buy a woman beating a man under normal circumstances (say, if the woman is the size of Chyna or if the man the woman is beating is someone the size of Red).
Snabbit888Posted on 01/28/06 at 06:17:47

Just one more point, and this may come as fishing for comments but it's not intended that way, but it's kind of an unspoken "rule" here that if you want to get comments, you need to comment on other stuff too.  That's how the circuit community really thrives.  Kind of a "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" kind of thing.

And I'm open to what you're going to be doing.  We'll just see if yuo can win me over (I'm very set in my view of how things should be booked :)).

Well being TEW, it's a lot different to everything else. Kind of interesting that having opened each show with yourself that you seem to lose :P but I guess keeping any egotism to a minimum helps. And adding comments is much better as in due course I'll be relating to what's going on now.

A note on the multiple interviews: I am using the "multi-segging" technique to simulate things such as interview interruptions and more than two sides being involved, as there is no way to reproduce it normally in TEW.  In times like that, the comments are definitely helpful in figuring out what the "multi-segments" were all about.
Doesn't TEW have angle segments that accomplish the multi-wrestler talk-a-thons?
ZedjaPosted on 01/29/06 at 18:30:40

I'm reading this and it looks pretty decent, but one thing actually disturbs me and it's in the title of some of the cards. It's the "ROH Wednesday Night Wresling". I'm not normally one to pick on spelling, but my guess is it was one typo you missed and then copied. However since it's in the title and the word Wrestling is pretty important I thought you'd like to know.
SockoPosted on 02/02/06 at 19:10:10

Anubis, definitely keep posting this as I'm enjoying following it.

I too am a stat/micro-management freak so this appeals to me big time .. not to mention that it reminds me of when I tried 'pairing' EWR with TNM with each sim taking care of different aspects of my circuit.

Keep up the good work.
rebelins313Posted on 02/04/06 at 03:16:28

Looks like you'll be getting more heat with your charisma and the like going up.  Seeing as though I'm not too familiar with TEW I wanted to know what the highest match you've had on the game is?  The ratings seem pretty strict overall.

How did that work out? I have been thinking of the same..

It worked pretty well imo.

I used the whole business model in EWR to act as a framework (hiring/firing/etc), and honoured the events that occured in EWR, such as injuries and suspensions, then used TNM to sim the matches. From there, I entered the card results into EWR based in TNM's outcomes. I kept having to transfer the 'Over' ratings from EWR as the 'Push' ratings in TNM which was a bit of a pain at times, but worth it.

The only gripe I can recall when trying it was how quickly the Over ratings bumped up, especially once a TV deal was in place, but it was a heap of fun to do. :)
ZedjaPosted on 02/10/06 at 16:37:58

My predictions in bold
Tracy Brooks v Trinity in a First Blood Match

Jimmy Rave v "The Classic" John Sebastian in a Two-Out-Of-Three-Falls Match

Nanae Takahashi v The Bloody in a TLC Title Match for the ROH Women's Title

Shelley & Malenko v The Second City Saints v Generation Next in a Cage Match for the ROH Tag Team Titles

Mariko Yoshida v "The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe v "Ice Man" Chuck Liddell in a Three-Way Dance for the ROH Pure Wrestling Title

"American Dragon" Bryan Danielson v Xavier in a Texas Death Match for the ROH World Heavyweight Title
ZedjaPosted on 02/14/06 at 15:11:20

Hmm. I didn't put into account two things... The first that you ran it booked and the fact that in a three way Liddell didn't have to be the one pinned.
UnrightPosted on 02/14/06 at 23:44:13

Sorry for the lack of feedback.. I'm just catching back up. Top notch stuff.

On 02/01/06 at 12:38:57, Anubis wrote:As for the Mariko Yoshida segments, I'm thinking that bathroom attacks aren't very popular.  Mariko's speaking Japanese doesn't help; she has great skills and no communication ability in the USA.  (Side note, how long do you suppose it would take for a Japanese wrestler to learn English?)  Well, Lacey's Angels aren't really over either, so that didn't help the segments.
I believe TEW 2005 included the feature of having a wrestler learn a different language over time if they worked in a different country. Going from passable to fluent. It's not in TEW2004, though.

If you wanted to re-create that by just using the editor after an appropriate amount of time..... hmm..  I'd say a motivated person could learn to speak passable english after about 6 months or so. But you should lower the charisma rating to reflect the heavily accented and broken english. The charisma stat should then start to climb on it's  own, reflecting the worker's ability to master the language.
